This is the place for small motor repair (that is a motor small enough to pick up yourself). Mike is patient and reliable in disgnosing your motor's problem and gives every customer (single customers) and businesses equially good service. My motor was from my Delta radial arm saw and since the motor was not produced anymore, an inability to get the motor repaired essentially ended the life of the saw. There is a reason this place has been in business for so many years. I had small motor burn out on a chocolate machine right in our holiday rush. Manufacturer said it would take 3 weeks to build a custom motor!!! Took the motor into Mike on a Monday. Unfortunately it was damaged beyond repair, but he found and ordered a replacement motor that was even better than the one we had. The motor fit like a glove and we were able to get back up in running within 4 days rather than 3 weeks. Mike went above and beyond to make sure we were get back up and running as soon as possible. Located in a little building off of 9th st it has the feel of an old workshop your grandfather had. Don't let that fool you . These guys know all the ins and out of electrical motors, capacitors, and even wind motors on site. I am working on a rooftop restaurant fan and unfortunately the bearings and pulley assembly are shot. He is completely cleaning out and make sure this motor is as good as new. In two occasions they have repaired (rewinding and other) motors for me. In both cases they took an interest on helping me get what i needed for a great price. The last i job was refurbishing a 1942 motor for a wintage drill press. They did a fantastic job for a price that I could afford. They even went beyond what i asked for and refreshed the paint on the motor. What impressed me even more, to save me another trip, they did the work while i waited gladly. I specifically chose an owner operated business that's been around for a long time. I wasn't disappointed. Although they don't work on DC motors, Mike spent about 20-30 minutes testing my motor, called another shop that does work on DC motors, gave them the lowdown, and referred me to them. I brought in an old 1950's "Pryne & Co. Blo-Fan" kitchen exhaust ventilator that had never been serviced and was about to give up the ghost. The staff there did an outstanding job not only bringing it back to life but restoring the motor to practically like new. It now runs smooth and quiet. Vintage fans are well made and worth salvaging if possible so it pays to take it to a reputable place. They normally handle bigger projects and it's nice to have a local shop in SF that provides such quality service on smaller motors. Highly recommended. I was looking to get a non functioning bathroom ceiling extractor fan repaired. I tried just about every electrical repair outfit in San Francisco and no one wanted to know. Since I was pretty sure the problem was the electric motor, as a last resort I searched for electric motor repair and McKee and Strub came up. So I took the fan assembly down to their shop. Mike was friendly and welcoming and was happy to look at the motor. He stopped all the other stuff he was doing, spent about an hour on the motor and repaired it while I waited. While it would have been cheaper to just replace the motor, without a part number, sourcing a new motor off the internet would have been too hit and miss, so my other alternative was to throw the old unit away and buy a new one, which probably would have also required modifying the housing in the bathroom ceiling - all getting expensive. Fixing the motor was my cheapest viable option and Mike was the only person I found after a lot of calls who was prepared to help. Mike is old school. He will try and turn his hand to fix anything electrical, if you ask nicely and are prepared to pay. read more

The service I received was SUPREME! I showed up 30 min. before closing with a broken old motor. I couldn't get the pulley off. They were able to undo the setscrews, heat it and beat it to submission. They gave me the cleaned pulley back and it was perfect. Going out of their way for a tiny little project at the last minute tells you they are about building a relationship, not just a quick buck. I was searching for a lock nut for a Dayton 1/4 volt, 4.9 amp, fan in a window. I had been through a variety of hardware stores for the past several days and had a shot on a digital Elf of what I needed. Michael Rossa took ten minutes to search for the proper nut and lock ring. I told him to charge me what ever he needed. He plopped it on the counter and said "No charge." The next time I have a broken electric motor I will definately go back!!! McKee and Strub is one of the last businesses with a lot of integrity. I had a small electric motor repaired there and asked the mechanic to test it before leaving the store. He plugged it into the socket and it looked fine to me. He however was not satisfied, as it did not meet his standards, and offered to give me a full credit for the work that was already done to it, a $70 value.
