Bought my first car from them and two weeks later the engine was smoking. Took it back and owner told me to be a big boy and learn that adults have to pay for their cars maintenance. We bought a Subaru Outback 5 months ago from them. When we bought it, we inquired about the noise engine, and we were told that 'Subaru's are just loud cars'. We had them look at it again, we asked friends who had Subaru's who told us that YES - they can just be louder cars. We read online reviews that they can be louder cars, so we assumed that the mechanic at McKee was telling us the truth. 4 different times we took the Subaru back to them, just for a quick check in, because I was concerned about the noise. I know NOTHING about cars, and I have zero shame about that. So, I would take it over there, say that I was concerned, they would look it over, and tell me that it was fine. They were supposed to replace a backup camera on the car, and they never did it, so I was also checking in on that, which never freaking happened. Still. 5 months later. 'Backorder', they would say. Sure. 3 days ago, the car started, and would stutter like a bad transmission every single time I started it from a stop. We stopped driving it, and I took it to our main mechanic this morning. They told me that the moment they started it: they knew that the Subaru's transmission was toast. So, they looked into it a little bit further and sure enough - completely shot. A new Subaru Transmission costs $6500 JUST FOR THE PART. And my mechanic said that there was no way that 5 months ago, if the car sounded even remotely like this, anyone who has ever worked on cars would know that the transmission was on the way out. It is their opinion that McKee absolutely sold us a car with a transmission going out without disclosing that information to us anywhere in the process, and that they absolutely would have known that. We are now facing a $7800 car repair because they decided to just sell a car real quick and not concern themselves with the consequences. It wasn't discounted to reflect this possible issue, it was even marked up a tiny bit. But such was our desperation to quickly escape another extremely pricey car repair on the minivan I was driving that I decided, like an idiot, to trust the dealership that sold us the car. So - we have a car with less than 100,000 miles on it, that needs a brand new transmission. Never buy a car from them. Never. We have no recourse in this situation. So, all I can do is make sure that nobody ever ends up not only upside down on a car loan, but upside with another $8,000 in repairs for an issue that should have been completely obviously disclosed. read more

I bought a truck from MCKEE I will NEVER DO BUSINESS with them ever ever again: They never disclosed that it was in an accident or that the frame was bent and the truck was dangerous to drive. When I got my truck back from the frame shop... I called Mckee to explain the situation, before ever asking for anything, I was told that I bought an "AS IS TRUCK" and that if I wanted a better vehicle that I should purchase a better truck.. this was after all a $9800 truck. I was told basically that I was low class, had poor credit, and that I should start making my payments on time and to stop playing a victim. I was not looking for any type of repayment.. I was just wanting them to understand that it was a dangerous situation, and they should do better when inspecting their vehicles.. The "manager" basically blasted me for buying a used vehicle from them. His entire attitude was that I WAS IN THE WRONG BECOUSE I PURCHASED A MEASLEY $9800 VEHICLE FROM THEM.. THE NERVE OF ME! I am so upset right now over the way I was talked to... MCKEE AUTO & RV has certainly went down hill in the the customer service side of things since the last car I purchased from them in 2012. 6 months ago we found ourselves needing to find a replacement for our old van -- quickly. The used car market being as horrendous as it is right now and us in a pinch, we did a speedy but pretty exhaustive search of used cars across Iowa. Many cars we were snatched up in hours before we could act. It was nuts. Ultimately we found a car that seemed to fit our needs for sale at McKee Auto. The car, a Subaru Outback, seemed pretty good for us. But prior to the sale we had a number of items we wanted checked/fixed. The car had bald tires (this should have been my first sign to walk away. Who puts a car on their lot with bald tires?!), the backup camera didn't work and the car was particularly noisy, whiny. I specifically asked they check the transmission/drivetrain because of the noise. I have never driven a Subaru with a boxer engine with a CVT transmission so wasn't sure how they sounded, but something seemed out of the ordinary, so we called it out. They did slap some cheap tires on, and said they would fix the camera. And they assured us prior to purchase that they had looked into all my concerns -- specifically the transmission -- and there was absolutely nothing to worry about. That sound we heard, they said, was just Subarus. Yet 6 months later, go figure, we need a new transmission. Our mechanic says there is NO WAY any mechanic would have heard what he heard -- what we heard from day 1 -- and not know it was the CVT transmission failing. Even after our sale we had their "service" look into the sound again 4 times. Totally fine they say -- nothing to worry about they repeated. Yet McKee now claims they have no records of our concerns or any additional service inspection or work done to the car prior to or after the sale -- convenient for them to not have documented it. Also, they never did anything to fix the backup camera despite being listed on the "we owe" document to fix in the sales contract. In an attempt to talk with McKee to see if we could work out some kind of deal to make this right, my wife has had phone calls never returned, I've had phone calls go unreturned, been shuffled around to numerous people who each said they wanted to help but were not in a position to discuss possible resolutions. But they would say they would talk to someone who could help and call me back -- no further phone calls unless I initiated them. I was also told the General Manager, Brandon McKee, would call me, but he never did of course. Eventually I landed on sales manager Marty Halibur's phone where, finally, after days of phone tag and waiting for responses to my voicemails I had a conversation with him where he quickly got angry, combative, called me names and said in no uncertain terms would he help me. My wife called to try and talk to Brandon. Once again we end up with Marty who very quickly calls my wife names and tells her to "f*ck off" multiple times before finally transferring her to Brandon's voicemail. I am sure we'll never hear from Brandon -- they have never been responsive and they obviously couldn't care less about customer service. Or basic decency or civility, it appears. I have never been treated so disgustingly by any company. They sold us a car with a junk transmission, and they knew it. But it's the game they play every day and they knew to cover their tracks. We were in a desperate situation, but likely not as desperate as many that walk through their doors. McKee Auto is dishonest, deceitful. They are predators. Never do business with them. read more

Biggest bunch of snow job artists in the car business. They have their salesman lie and say anything to get you to buy a car, even to the point of telling you how they stand behind their customers. Then, within a week, the sales leaves the company, you call back some minor problems and they flat out say that you had the choice not to buy that vehicle and they doubted any of the promise made were even discussed and basically called us liars and said we bought the vehicle it is our problem. This is old news, but last year I purchased a GMC Acadia Denali from McKee. I've had to do some traveling for work so I haven't been home to drive it but my wife was driving it and noticed the alignment seemed a little off and the steering wheel was off center while driving. The sales person I bought the vehicle from, Myranda was helpful at first returning my calls and to keep from having to drive all the way back to McKee from Oskaloosa, advised me to take it to Pella Motors and let her know What they said. So I did just that and was advised the front end had been serviced previous to my purchasing the vehicle and was out of adjustment so adjustments needed to be made and the alignment needed to be done. When the mechanic started the vehicle he said it was starting rough and recommended having the top end of motor be cleaned to get rid of carbon deposits. Altogether the front end adjustments totaled around $127 and with the cleaning totaled around $650. I called the sales person and left a message for her to call me back and didntvreceiveca call back. I called back the next morning and was told she would talk to her manager or someone and I'd get a call back that morning before noon. I waited untiol after noon 2 days later before just having Pella Motors do the work so my wife could have the Acadia back to be able to drive our son to school. Since then I've left several messages and have not received a single call back. Even if they'd have called me to tell me it was something they would not cover or could only partially cover that would have been fine, but instead they couldn't even afford the professional courtesy returning any of my calls. I put a considerable amount of money down, in the 5-digit range, which used up most of our savings so it was a big deal that I had to pay for adjustments to be made. I'd have though just a mere $127 for some adjustments and the $500 for the motor being cleaned to run smoother would have been a minor expense for them considering the price we paid for the Acadia and the amount of the down payment I made. I read all the good and bad reviews and thought I'd give them a chance to get a good review from someone but will never make that mistake again. My salesperson was nice and seemed to want to help, but dropped the ball by not communicating with me and essentially ignoring my calls and message. As a result I would not recommend their business to anyone. To make things worse, within a month of this happening, the Motor started making a noise, sheared a bolt on the cam shaft, threw the Motor out of time, which broke valves, so I had to put a new motor in it. Thankfully I had the extended factory warranty, but this should not happen to a vehicle at only 65k miles... read more

My boyfriend put $100 down yesterday, gave them his proof of insurance and they pulled a hard inquiry on his credit, came back today to sign paperwork and it sold earlier that day. Will not buy from here after the experience we had, they even put a sold sign in the front window of the truck. Worst people to do business with, just got a car less then 3 months ago and already have to take it back to the shop. Don't buy into their insurance, it's very specialized in "certain" things. Not willing to do anything for me. Highly NOT recommend for two reasons, cars break down fast after purchase, and not willing to do anything once they do break. My husband and I were in the market for a new pickup when I found the one we were looking for online at McKee Auto in Des Moines. To make a long story short, in the end we are very pleased customers and extremely happy with the truck we purchased from them. I first worked with Ron, asking for very specific pictures of the truck that were not shown online and this experience was pain-staking. I received nearly all but the pictures I clearly asked for, including pictures of the wrong truck. I finally gave up and asked my husband to call to see if he could get what we were needing. He called on a day Ron was not there and spoke with Brandon. Totally different experience!!! Brandon immediately got us the information we needed, was very professional and answered all of our questions on the spot. Within a few hours we went from being completely frustrated and ready to walk away from the truck all together to very excited and ready to make a deal. We live in Colorado so we wanted a written agreement that if for some reason the truck wasn't what we wanted when we got there, our deposit would be refunded and Brandon had it to us that same day. He also sent a price breakdown that included any and all costs we would incur. We felt very comfortable working with Brandon. Diamond also helped out with several calls I made while working out our financing (which we provided from our own bank) and he was very professional and courteous as well. We had expressed to Brandon we very much disliked the tires the pickup had on it and asked if there was another vehicle on the lot he could swap them with (a 10 hour drive one way would have been atrocious with the mud tires that were on the truck) and the day my husband arrived to pick up the truck, Brandon had personally taken the truck to the tire shop and had brand new all terrain tires put on it. We were very surprised and obviously pleased that he went so far above and beyond what we had hoped he would do. We would absolutely recommend McKee Auto, when working with Brandon and Diamond. It's hard to find a man of his word, let alone a car salesman of his word but Brandon definitely is. Thank you for your professionalism and our beautiful truck!! Couldn't be happier!! read more
