This review is overdue, but we used their services a little over a year ago and had a 4x8 space and paid about $30 something a month. We thought this was waaaay cheaper as we previously had a public storage unit and were paying close to $100 a month. I think rates here are cheap depending upon where your storage unit is located (ours was on the second floor). Different than what we were used to at public storage since you can literally drive in front of your space and load/unload items. So, we carried our items up a flight of stairs and down a small hallway. (It sucked for us when it was time to move storage units in/out because the hallway area was small and the lights were turned off- the lights are turned off in certain sections of the hallway throughout the day). I would have given this place 3 stars because it is what it is, and the storage unit did serve its purpose. Minus one star for having to pay the monthly bill by going into the store (at that time, we weren't able to pay online or over the phone). It can be a hassle or inconvenience at times but they do send you monthly statements or invoices that will remind you. read more

I leased a storage in Mc Kee of San Jose, CA from June 4 2012 5 X 6 FOR $20.49 A MONTH. THEY WANT ME TO PAY 2 MONTHS TO HAVE A SPECIAL RATE, SO I PAY CASH AS REQUIRED: $42.45, before i moved in (INSTEAD OF $60/MONTH). I've received a call said I am late my payments on July 14 2012 My husband comes to the office and sign a check, however, the guy working there said: IT WAS COMPUTER SOFTWARE MISTAKE, so wait until: August 1 2012 to pay my rent: $20.49 (Drop in the mail box) On July 17, i came to pick a couple of things in the storage, they LOCK MY STORAGE AND SAID I HAVE TO PAY 36.07 FOR LATE RENT. I've explained: I've paid 2 months in advance as request, and now is July 17 2012, it means less than 1 MONTH AND HALF, I AM NOT LATE AT ALL. The guy works at the office told me 2 days ago, when i received the phone message, that the Computer messed up, so I don't have to pay. the Owner or Manager (the BOLD BIG GUY), insulted me with a very Bad Rude languages, ( Fuck you asian, no speak english, and get out of my office), My husband told him quietly, that we had Camera on the Morning of July 18 2012, and his son, and his worker (3 persons ) were there. but he kept Insult me an Asian Woman. I Felt so Scared about his Behaviors, and really surprised how can An Owner can do that to the customer, if his son don't push him back to the room, he almost wanted to hit me right at this moment. He ordered to lock my Storage, and left a Notice, even it's only 1 month and 15 days. WARNING! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND BUSINESS TO THIS STORAGE COMPLEX! If you can literally have such horrible reviews on a storage, that's just the worst. There's not much task held at hand to really screw business up with customers that just need to store their belongings in a room. I AM TAKING THIS GARBAGE DUMP TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. Thank goodness I file every bit of documentation and contracts. So my experience with this dump is dirt poor. BELOW 0 STARS. I've had a storage unit with them for maybe 5-6months. I called around to more than 5 different storage's for the best rate. This place, (for an unbiased judgment) had the best pricing for my needs regarding size of the unit. How could you go wrong right? Closer location to my home, best price, I just need a damn room to store extra stuff! Ill tell you where I went wrong! I always pay my bills a month in advance. I am a credit freak and take pride in my organization and fico score. Well aside from minor issues I had with them prior to the main issue.....The storage hours are inconvenient for a person working a 9-5. They don't accept CC I guess since previous problems they had in the past (Which I understand to be 'them screwing over a previous customer according to a comment down below') so I would have to physically drop a payment off or in the drop box (area isn't the best). They charged a service fee we were unaware of as well until we had gotten our first bill payment. One time I had went to the storage after work to pick something up and there was this red lock on it, I called the front desk and complained, the guy said it was a mistake-they put that lock on units for people who are late on their bill or what not.,(Which in my case I always pay my bills in advance so they clearly made a mistake) I had an appt, to go to and got off work early just to head to storage so after the guy apologized, he said he will send his son out to the unit to take off the red lock. I waited 20minutes. NOTHING. Called the front desk again and said "Oh Shit I Forgot" and hung up on me. His son popped up and took the lock off 5minutes later. Those were just some odd minor issues I had. Now TO DATE. Just got a new place and emptied out our storage. I asked the 'Boss" (Really big guy) about any pro rated costs if we keep the belongings in the storage past the bill due date. Although since I paid in advance for another month he mentioned I would have to be out by the 31st of July in order to receive my full refund or if I was there past the 31st, they would keep all of the money I paid in advance. Ok, Whatever. So My fiance and I had taken Tuesday off work to empty everything out of storage since the 31st landed on a Friday. They refused to give us a refund STILL. I went back on the first of the month and the young man refused to even give me a release form to sign that we are out of the storage! At first he said he doesn't know anything about a release form. I haggled a bit longer with him and he bluntly and annoyingly said, "Look I was told not to give you any release papers I'm sorry".,..WOW. So what? They can legitimately say, "Oh Well there's no proof, they never signed the release docs so we are entitled to the money" No, that is just WRONG. I wanted to speak with the owner, the employee said, "Sorry I don't have his number" Lies Lies Lies. I can't believe this place. Disgusting. We took photos of the storage space as well the day we emptied it. (For Proof just in case) this place is just extremely shady and scandalous. I recorded EVERYTHING. The whole conversation between me and the worker. I am pursuing this matter and taking this dump to small claims court. I don't care how minor the amount may be. I will make sure they will pay for court fines and fee's, reimburse me my damn refund as well as credit my fiance and I in taking time off of work for emptying out the storage prior to the 31st ONLY because we were entitled to our refund. I even called the cops to make a police report but since it was a civil matter the authorities on the non-emergency line had said I will need to go online to make a report, since the issue isn't criminal. He did mention for me to take photos of the storage as well with a time stamp showing we even went there the day of the 1st once again. Before leaving I had a very funny feeling and went to go and check on our storage, there was a red lock on it again. I took photos of that as well. Legally, if we are paid up until a months in advance, we are still entitled to storing our belongings within the unit. But they have a red lock on it now? Doesn't make sense at all. This place is Dirty, Shady and scandalous. I wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE. I wish I would've paid top dollar as opposed to giving this garbage dump my business. Went to access my storage unit today. The management had placed one of their locks on it and no one was in the office to resolve the problem. Waited about 10-15 minutes before returning home. Finally got through to their office an hour later, explained the situation briefly. The man interrupted me to ask if we had paid our bill. We had and I told him so. He asked again and I confirmed. He then said, "You know what? I don't even care." and hung up on me. For full disclosure, I admit my tone indicated I was a little annoyed, but I was not rude. I did not waste his time. DON'T USE THIS PLACE!!! They've always been strange to deal with, and now they want to keep several months of rent that I paid ahead. I signed up with this place on the spur of the moment some years ago, because a friend had stuff there. The friend ended up having a problem with this place and moved all their stuff out. I've found them to be very bizarre, and at the moment I'm VERY ANGRY with them. I've used them for years, and I pay 3 months at a time, to save trouble. Now I will be emptying my unit - I have no problem with them keeping my payment for the rest of this month, but they also want to keep what I paid for the next 2 months! This is a horrible place!!! Avoid it at all possible cost! Strange that they always lock the storage even tho it's paid! I guess maybe because they get broken into a lot and they tell us it's for our safety. Yet, takes a while for them to come and open it up when you need to immediately access it! My husband ran into an incident with the "owner/manager" (Paul). When my hb came early morning, there was a guy approaching him and yelling at him. When my hb told him that he never signed in before, Paul cursed the "F" word at my hb. My hb didn't know who he was and thought it was some stranger or homeless person since they rent the storage there too. We never had to sign in when we come there which we rarely need to. My hb was so shocked and surprised to find out the the employee/manager/owner would speak like that. Paul also lied and said that he was the owner yet when I called to find out his name so I can report him; he then told me that he was the manager. I tried looking up the owner of the place so I can provide some feedback and it's no where to be found. When I called back 1 week later Dan who's the older bigger guy usually sitting at the desk told me that I should make sure not to get mad at Paul because if I come in and get mad and argue with him then he will evict me! Well, if I pay for the month I don't see how he could evict me, but then again they run their business they way they want because cursing at customers is the way that they run their business!!! Recommended to me by a friend who's been a customer here for over 10 years. My garage finally took on more stuff than it could hold, so I decided to give these guys a shot. I did shop around before I gave them my business, and what I discovered was that a majority of these storage facilities seemed grossly overpriced and the newly built ones are charging WAY more than I was willing to part with. McKee Road Mini is conveniently located just a couple blocks off 680, is easy to find and even easier to deal with. After a simple phone call to inquire about what was available and what size I needed, I met up the following Tuesday with the Manager. Nice guy. Very pleasant and courteous. He made arrangements to set us up in a 2nd story unit, walked us to its location, where we placed our stuff onto a pallet so that it could be lifted up with a forklift. We've had our STUFF there for almost three years now and have visited on more than ten occasions. Front desk is always attentive, well mannered and more than happy to assist our needs. I can honestly say that our unit is always sparkling clean, free of bugs/rodents and the general overall look of the property is spotless, including security cameras on almost every angle. If that's how you wanna treat your STUFF, I strongly suggest you give these guys a call. read more

I have been with this place for over a year and have never had a problem with them. In fact, my experience has been a positive one. They're inexpensive. They're local. They have answered their phone every time I called. The supervisor knows my name and pulls up my file without prompting when I come in to pay. He even recognizes my voice when I call. The employees have always been polite and friendly to me. I thought my rent was going to go up a huge amount once the new customer promo, a discounted rate for a year was up, but it only went up a few dollars. I was very happy. I plan to stay with this storage locker for however long I need it and I would do business with them again the future. I have always paid on time, often pay early, and never copped an attitude with them when a minor mistake happened, like it will in any business, because they have been right on top of fixing whatever it was. If you're a good customer and treat them kindly, they'll appreciate you and want to keep you as a renter. If you're late on payments, you're not going to talk yourself out of the consequences. If you're a jerk, they will treat you like you're a jerk. It's not hard to figure this out. read more

This is by far the best run storage facility I've ever patronized. McKee Mini Storage is a reputable, clean, and professional service where you can be sure that your property is well taken care of. The office staff were very helpful and go above and beyond what you find at any other storage facility. I was most impressed by the security safeguards in place at this facility. I have been a patron for years and have never had a bad experience. The facility is monitored by on site staff and video cameras that help keep this place safe. It's good to know that your personal possessions are always secure and safe. The prices are unbeatable compared to any other places in the Bay Area. . One of my worse experience with this place. Manager was ignorant and Supervisor was "never there". I'm not sure if there is a supervisor since any attempt to talk to him either he's not there or he never call back. No number, too. So the reason why I decide to sign up for yelp and post my this negative feedback is my awful experience with them. So here's what happen. I've been storing my stuff here for 6 months. It seem each month there is always a problem. The 2nd month, they lock up my storage for non payment. WTF, they automatically charge my CC each month. Had to show them my statement so they can unlock my storage. 2 months later, another lock storage. They say CC charge did not go thru. Fine, so I say i'll pay for it right now since I need my stuff. After going thru my cc statement again, I saw 2 charges within 2 days. One was the one they say did not go thru and the other is when they force me to make a payment to unlock my storage. Contact them and show them my statement. Manager refuse to give a refund and I can never get a hold of the imaginary supervisor to correct this. Fine I say, I will call my CC and inform them of the dublicate charges. CC saw the dublicate charges and reverse one. Now, fast forward to 2 months later. Guess what, my storage is lock up again. This time, they say because my CC reverse the charge of one of the dublicate charges, I owe them the money. WTF!!!! So you're say you charge me twice for that month and when my CC reverse one charge, you tell me I have to pay for that dublicate charge again? I tell them to add up all my payments to see the extra charge. This time they force me to pay cash + late fee because I dispute the dublicate charge. Worse ever. So they held my stuff hostage and force me to pay to get my stuff. I couldn't move out and faster. Once I moved out, I call my CC again. I will also contact San Jose business rep and BBB to make a complaint. Move to stuff else since this place will hold your stuff hostage if they don't get their ways. read more

Very bad management. I rarely receive my bill from this business on time.Maybe this way they can apply late charges and make more money. I was told it was due to a problem with the post office. Definitely not a postal issue. Last week I went in to discuss this situation and to ask for explanation of additional charges on my bill. Management got irate and called me a prostitute, a drug addict and used the F word. I have been a kind and faithful customer and I like the employee behind the counter. This place has terrible customer service they only offer forklift service from 9-1:30 and when I requested the service at 12:30 the driver junior showed up at 2:15 and said the service was over for the day and when I questioned the fact that he was requested at 12:30 his response was nobody told him and he would show us the paper. When we checked out junior was running the front desk I checked the policy & discovered the service was also available from 4-6. When I asked him why he failed to inform us off that he curtly replied "I said I would show you the paper" we had an elderly man trying to carry his belongings up two flights of stairs...just a obvious hint junior if you are going to quote your policy be accurate and honest with your customers...shame on you junior and mckee mini storage! read more
