I lived at McKenzie for approximately 3 years, from September 2020 to August of 2023. The good: 1. The apartment layout is fairly spacious. 2. The in-unit amenities are fine, including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge. 3. Maintenance is quite prompt and the workers are friendly. 4. There is a room for packages to be dropped off. I never had a package stolen or even misplaced in my 3 years there. The bad: 1. Car break ins are common. I had my window smashed, as did the 2 cars parked next to mine--appears to have been a smash and grab. Security is nonexistent. 2. It can be very loud. There is a school directly across the way with bells that ring multiple times a day. Keep that in mind if you work from home. The traffic can also be considerable near the entrance to the complex during school pickup and drop off times. 3. It is overpriced. Comparable units in the same area (as well as rental houses) are hundreds of dollars less. Rent will increase yearly despite no added value to the renter. 4. You will absolutely not get even most of your security deposit back even if you return the unit in a pristine condition. Unfortunately, it's common for property owners to squeeze out every single possible dime from even a long-term renter, using extremely vague justifications and not providing receipts as required by law. 5. Dog waste is rampant. While there are puppy bags and receptacles, renters do not use them and the property neither enforces their pet policies nor timely cleans up the dog waste. Overall: It was a decent Covid-era find and the move-in process was mostly remote and very easy, but now that the world has re-opened, one can find a much, much better deal with little effort. read more

I've been living at McKenzie at Natomas Park and while the spacious floor plans are a definite plus, several aspects of the property have been disappointing--especially considering the price point. Apartment Features: The units are roomy and offer nice layouts, but sound insulation is minimal. You can clearly hear neighbors' conversations, arguments, footsteps, and even water running in other units. It's loud enough that it can easily disrupt your routine, especially during quiet hours. Dogs are common in the complex and their barking can be heard frequently. If you're considering a ground-floor unit, note that patios aren't fenced--just separated by landscaping. I was even advised not to leave personal items outside due to theft concerns. Cleanliness & Grounds: Dog waste is an ongoing issue throughout the community. It's not uncommon to see it left along sidewalks, which detracts from the overall upkeep. Pest control also seems inconsistent. I'd recommend taking some personal precautions to avoid issues inside your unit. Amenities & Maintenance: I haven't personally used the amenities much, but I frequently see notices about the gym, pool, or clubhouse being out of order. At one point, the hot tub was regularly filled with bubbles from someone putting soap in it. That seems to happen less now, so perhaps it's being addressed. Safety & Security: There have been repeated instances of vandalism and car break-ins. Security measures seem minimal, so it's important to take precautions and be mindful of where you park. Staff & Communication: Interactions with the office staff are uncomfortable at best. They often come across as defensive or annoyed, even when you're just trying to ask a question. The tone of communications sent to residents--whether by email, text, or physical letter--is often unprofessional and hostile. It makes the community feel less like home and more like a dorm with strict RAs. Rent Increases & Pricing: McKenzie already charges well above the market rate for apartments in the area, and they still increase rent with every lease renewal. The current rate for a one-bedroom is over $2,000/month, which would be reasonable--if the location, service, and amenities matched that price. Unfortunately, they don't. You'd be better off in one of the nearby apartments going for $1,700-$1,800. They offer the same (or better) features without the inflated price tag or the headaches. In summary, while the spacious floor plans are a plus, the community could benefit from improved soundproofing, more consistent maintenance, clearer communication from staff, and better attention to cleanliness and security. With a few improvements, McKenzie could better align its pricing with the actual living experience. read more

I have lived at McKenzie off and on since 2013. I have lived in 5 different apartments in 4 different buildings on the property. When my employer transfers me out of state, I only return to McKenzie when I'm relocated back to Sacramento. I am extremely pleased with the management, maintenance, and the grounds. I have never had my vehicle stolen or vandalized. I rent a garage but park in the open lot. They have security that patrols the community at night. I have rented in this community when it was under two different managers. Both were excellent and kept the community peaceful, clean, and safe. Our current management team is awesome as well! Ms. Toni is fabulous! The maintenance staff (Steven and Matt) have also been excellent. If there is a non-emergent issue, I have been contacted well within 24 hours and for emergent issues, there is someone on-call. The entire staff are courteous, professional, fun, and vested in keeping the community a great place to live. No pest control issues. When the seasons change, You can call the office if you want to be on the list for your unit to be sprayed. As I mentioned above, I have lived in multiple apartments on the property. My move out and move in experience were not complicated and the deposit I received was fair. You can request a pre- move out inspection to capture any outstanding issues. However, everyone knows that no matter where you rent, you will not get 100% of your deposit back. My deposit was always fair. Now one thing I will add is that management does follow the community rules that are provided to you in the welcome packet so as long as you also abide by the rules, you won't have any issues. The rules are like no smoking on the property, picking up after your pets, not having glass in the pool area. This is a non-smoking community. Things like that help keep the community looking good. Oh did I mention we have new gym equipment also! And yes it is FREE ! We also have a fabulous pool, hot tub, 2 grill areas, community clubhouse with new furniture! As you can tell, I call McKenzie my home away from home! I would highly recommend McKenzie. read more

We have lived here for several years and loved every minute of it. Maintenance is always friendly, prompt and responsive. The grounds are well cared for and it has been our home until just recently when we added a little one to our family and needed more space. Our apartment up until then was beyond spacious with an amazing view. The gym and pool are constantly cleaned and have been upgraded several times. Most importantly, we appreciate the management of this location. Toni has always been so personal and accommodating. She is such a friendly human being and always made us feel like we were more than just tenants. Our kids love her too. I feel compelled to write this review for two reasons. I recently had a really bad experience with another apartment complex not too long ago, which made me look further into my options to live in Natomas. The second reason is simply because this is the best staff I have dealt with out of 7+ apartment complexes during my search to find a new home for me and my beagle buddy. I heard about this complex from a coworker on Monday, decided to go look on Tuesday, and I am officially a future resident as of today (Wednesday). I can't say enough good things about Jodi & Andrew. I first emailed in and got a call back within an hour or so from Jodi. She set up an appointment for the following day. She was extremely sweet on the phone, super helpful, and very warm. I met with Andrew when I came in on Tuesday. He was really funny and SO INFORMATIVE about the complex. I don't feel like he left anything out. Not only was he good at giving us all the information, but he also has this very obvious care for the complex and its tenants. You don't really see that often. Well, at least I hadn't in my search up to this point. He was friendly to the two gals I brought with me and let us take our time and ask all the questions we wanted to. I couldn't have been happier with our meeting, which is why I went straight home and decided to apply online. Their application process is all electronic. WOW! I can't tell you how refreshing this is. It's so nice and uniform. You can see all the information, breakdown of pricing, and even upload your proof of income, renters insurance and all that on there too. I went in today, to drop off my deposit for the unit and met with Jodi again. I asked a few more questions about the apartment, move-in day, deposits, and move out costs for when that time comes and she was so incredibly sweet about it. Coming from the bad experience I just had, I really can't express how comforting this was. I'm so excited to move into this complex and have an office staff that just seems so nice and caring. I used to live here in 2015 and it was great with Jodie running it, but now they have rules that are completely absurd. I went out to enjoy a day after to work to the pool and a lady with short cut African American lady said with a horrible attitude " the pool is closed due to lighting" I didn't understand what she was saying because it is summer time. The sun doesn't go down until around 8:30-9pm so I didn't understand "lighting" so I asked her again and she said again lighting issue rolled her eyes and kept going. So disgusting. Alesha was much better I'm not sure what she calls herself if she's management or what but her attitude screams unhappy and she shouldn't be here. And again lighting doesn't make sense in the middle of summer and walking to the pool at 6pm after work when the sun is the hottest and sun is the brightest. Also you can't use the hot tub homeless bathe in there, no security to help the apartments out and you can hear everything in my apartment. Constant arguments with domestic violence situations right in front of your eyes. Screaming and hollering l, slamming doors, Constant police visits in the apartments. I will be happy when I move soon. I don't bother anyone ever and never really hear from my neighbors next to me, so I planned on staying after my lease, but it really bothered me today to see the angry black lady speak about the pool as well as the other issues here with noise. All of the facilities for the apartment are closed. On top of rent being $2,200 a month you also have to pay gas, water, sewage, electricity and gas. Not to mention even if you pay for a parking spot and back in you recieve a "parking violation." I've been screamed at and cursed out by another resident and the management literally does nothing about that or anything else so save your money and go somewhere else. Seriously. I went to look at apartments and Andrew had this overly sarcastic attitude about him and spoke to me as if I were an idiot. I spoke to Jodi over the phone and she's just as bad, I don't know how they still have their jobs. There are a TON of complaints about Jodi's attitude/ignorance, and if you just speak to Andrew once you'll know exactly what I mean about him as well. I don't usually write reviews but this one is necessary: The apartment itself is ok, it is definitely NOT luxury. I would say to shop around, there are some very nice apartments nearby that are worth the price they are asking. First off, they charge $30 for a carport (It's fine to charge but that's a little high and the community is not gated). There were always bums in the trash bins--again not gated but supposedly luxury? The apartment was small and yet somehow we are still paying $75ish for wsg. So keep that in mind it all adds up base rent + carport + wsg, etc. Upon move- out they took my entire deposit $500, tacked on to it for ridiculously high charges for cleaning and painting and additional $516 (If you look at the previous reviews as well, I am not the only tenant who felt, they way overcharged for the cleaning/painting). I was charged a higher amount for the last month for wsg and i left the apartment early so how can that happen? Trying to leave early/break lease?? READ ON: BEWARE they WILL CHARGE TWO MONTHS UPFRONT if you try to end your lease. AGAIN TWO MONTHS UPFRONT THE DAY YOU GIVE NOTICE, NOT AT THE END like many other apartments in the area. AND NO THEY WILL NOT NEGOTIATE, EVEN WITH COVID 19 hurting people's ability to get extra part-time positions in order to help, it was all about the money, is how I FELT. Mind you, I was an excellent tenant, never late, never issues, and a Military Veteran, I'm sure you understand my disappointment. This is the absolute worst apartment with regard to working with you in a crazy time in the present world. In my conversations with Jodi, even after asking if I can pay 1 week later for the almost $3000 dollars they wanted UPFRONT after also paying my regular rent to give a 30 day notice she would not do it, PERIOD. I've lived in many complexes throughout the years and when asked to compromise the apartment managers would always try their best to help and we would come to some agreement overall; but she WOULD NOT, COMPROMISE AT ALL. I wasn't even asking for much, I asked for one week to assist me with the 2 months UPFRONT to break the lease because I just purchased a home (and if you know anything about that, you also have to come up with the deposit usually 1% of the home purchase amount), in my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I felt disregarded, and that its all about the bottom line, and not the person at all, its very disappointing. I understand kids can be loud and obnoxious but there's no reason to be rude about it when telling them to be quiet jeez. I am actually SHOCKED by some of the reviews on here! I've lived here for almost 10 months and absolutely LOVE IT. I live by myself (with my dog) and have always felt completely safe and comfortable. The entire property is extremely clean and not "old or outdated" by any means, It is a large unit for a 1 bedroom with a beautiful view of the pool area. The gym, club house, business center, pool and club house are all extremely nice and well taken care of. The staff (Jodi, Andrew and everyone else) has always been extremely friendly and helpful whenever I have needed anything. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone. If you are on the fence about taking a tour because of the other reviews, please take my advice and just take a tour. When you do, it will be very clear how nice this location is. read more

Love my place at McKenzie. Was so easy to get in and they helped out with literally almost everything. Kamerin the assistant manager was especially helpful. She helped with everything and guided me every step of the way. I will say the pricing is a little too high but then again what isn't these days. Great amenities and if I ever need anything fixed Kamerin sends Steve from maintenance and things get fixed right away. Definitely recommend living here. read more

When my wife and I first moved in, we filled out the move in/ move out itemized statement and even went as far as to take pictures of items that were unsatisfactory. Once we moved they told us they were unable to fix anything on the list because it would cost too much. The last month of our lease we got a notice stating that our rent would go up 40%! Seriously? Upon moving out (just six months later), they charged us ridiculous charges for cleaning and painting an apartment that was as clean or cleaner than when we moved in. I have rented for years, and I get that carpets need cleaned and walls need painted, but if the walls were not newly painted before I moved in why am I being charged for them when I move out? Wow. I can relate! I went in there not long ago with a friend and they seemed to be racist against her from the moment we walked in. A late 30s long brunette hair lady, using that term loosely...was whispering and then acting like there wasn't a unit available and next thing you know someone else came in (Caucasian couple) and same unit size magically opened?!? We left, I do not tolerate discrimintion and this was clearly the case. I do not like to throw that word out there but this was the only thing it could be, as he did not even start the process to ha e any chance to be declined. I love living here and the overall property is nice but feeling really unsafe lately. Garages, storage units and cars have all been broken into since I've lived here less than a year and I really wish it was a gated property. I know there's only so much security and the managers can do, it's just a reality that comes with living here or anywhere. Even if it was gated, you're only as safe as your neighbors. Really hoping patrol steps up and can deter some of the crime and theft. read more

PROS: - If you like Natomas, you will like this location. It is located about a mile from several strip malls, gyms, big departments stores. Some decent parks are just walking distance away. - Maintenance guys were the best. Nice, professional, always ready to help you. CONS: - Never felt safe there. Car break ins were normal at that time. Several apartments were broken in too. We even had a meeting with a local sherif to make sure we knew how to secure our apartments - Apartments and the complex itself are just OK. It is not a luxury living by any means, kitchen is very cheap, appliances are cheap, insulation is mediocre etc. It depends on your expectations too I guess. We had guests who lived in some old South Sac complexes that thought that our apartment was upscale. - A/C units. Oh, my gosh. They were so noisy. I lived on a second floor and had at least 4 or 5 A/C units right under my bedroom. It was like living in a helicopter from June to November. I could only image what it was like living on a first floor. What mad scientist/architect designed it this way?!?!? - Jodi (apt complex manager) .... you will see. If you like her now, just give it a little bit more time. SUMMARY: I had an Ok time there. Really enjoyed nearby parks and Natomas in general but was happy to leave that place and I will definitely never come back and my moving out experience was extremely unpleasant. I have lived here from 2011-2013 (2bd/2bth) and probably am going to end renewing (even with the price hike) for a third year. I cant deny the fake posts if you go onto apartmentratings.com you can find some of the same glorious reviews copied and pasted. That being said I have had zero issues with this place. I am a pretty easy to please person and I am very content with what I am getting. That being said... Prices are too high. I got nickeled and dimed for parking and pets plus water/sewage. Pool is nice, gym is weak but its 'free' so use it, as one other review wrote the rec room is a joke to try and use. The area is nice and so are the parks. It is very well located to get to lots of places easily. Yes I have had to call security because of all the loitering. I had several groups people smoking weed under my staircase (awkward!). Although since I complained I have not had a problem. The place is pretty quiet too probably because it's half empty. The place itself is pretty cheap, walls, counters, sockets. Appliances are OK at best. Maintenance guys are freaking rock stars. I have yet to have a negative or confrontational moment with the management. Then again I dont cause any problems and I am very polite and on time. They have responded and delt with all my issues. If you mind your P's and Q's and dont mind overpaying a little bit this place is A-OK but you've been warned! read more

I'm thinking of leaving these apartments so I don't have to deal with Andrew who works in the Office. Just about every time I've had an interaction with him it's felt very negative. He makes me feel like he's always scolding me. All the lights went out in my bathroom today at 9:45am. It sounded like a fuse blew. It's pitch black in the bathroom. No windows. So I can't see anything. Can't take a shower. I called let Andrew know. He says it's not an emergency and he doesn't make the guys schedules and it may not get fixed today. I said I would appreciate if he would expedite it because I can't see at all in the bathroom. I called back to ask for the after hours number because I couldn't locate it. He then begins to lecture me that I'm not to call it because it's not an emergency. I told him it's for use in the future just in case I need it. I explained to him that I don't like talking to him. Everyone else here at the property seem very nice and know how to talk except him. Then he tells me he doesn't have that problem with anyone else and I'm the one with the problem. I told him to go to Jody and the other guys and ask them how to talk to tenants because they seem to have a better grasps on good customer service. In the past I have avoided going into the office when I know he's going to be there he's. He just always has a dig or a side comment, it's hard to say but I find him annoying. Just say something like I'm sorry let me see how I can help you. I feel like he's doing me a favor that I live here. Also in the summer time I had a leak from a vent over my bathtub the entire summer. When it started I asked Andrew about it and what I can do to fix it. He said something like he left the air conditioner on in the apartment above me and that's the run off water, and there was nothing I could do to fix it because it happens in every apartment with an apartment above them. Well the drip happened everyday for the entire summer. I have a video of it I tried to upload but it wouldn't upload a video. I tried to get help from him and he shut me down. Eventually it stained the tub and it started growing black mold because it was a constant drip everyday all day 24/7 over my tub. When I showered it would drip on me. I was so disgusted, I didn't need dirty water from the ceiling dripping on me. When I told him he implied that I didn't clean well enough. He again said he was going to turn off the air conditioner above me because the apartment was un-rented. Apparently he didn't because it dripped and dripped. I asked what the maintenance guys could do again he said they couldn't do anything I said the water is nasty he said "no it isn't, it's clean". RIGHT! So I just had to live with it but it just felt totally unfair to have a drip in my bathroom ceiling it drove me nuts. Anyway I've been sick all week and just feeling better today. This interaction with Andrew just was unnecessary. I definitely want to move and he's a big motivator for that. I'll even pay to break the lease so I don't have to deal with him anymore. P.S. Honestly the maintenance guys are very good and are very responsive, but apparently Andrew seems to be their spokesperson; according to him "I want to give you the worse case scenario just in case they can't get to you for a few days or fix it at all". Thanks for the tough love Andrew but no thanks, I like to live a little more optimistically. read more

I have lived at McKenzie for four years now. And I wouldn't be here anymore if I wasn't happy with the place. I love the size of the apartments they have walking closets, some like mine have a fireplace, washer and dryer, and a good size kitchen. I love the location, you have two parks close by, you can take the dog for a nice walk, one of the parks have tennis courts. There are also stores and restaurants, the airport is 5 min away, and its only a 15 min drive to downtown. The community is very quiet and the apartments are well insulated so yeah sometimes you might here your neighbor when they are being super loud, but come on you are living in an apartment! Must people here are also very respectful, so you don't here crazy parties or people screaming. The maintenance is also awesome because whenever I have needed any repairs they come the same day to fix it. One thing that I also like is that it is not a very big community, and that makes it a friendly place. You get to know some of your neighbors and have a great time at the pool. ;) I know there are people that disagree with me, but if you pay in time your rent, respect the contract, take care of your apartment I don't see why you would have any problems. I toured a 2 bedroom 2 bath (1100 sq ft not including balcony) this wknd as my bf is looking to move out of his current place. BEDROOMS: both were relatively the same size with one being about 10 inches longer lengthwise. The master is the smaller room, but has a HUGE walk-in closet and nice bathroom. The 2nd room is closer to the entry on the opposite side of the living room and has less storage space. There was a storage closest to the left of the entry, the hallway for the bathroom and 2nd bedroom to the right, then kitchen to the left beyond the storage closet and living room to the right with the master straight ahead. KITCHEN: Nice dark cabinets, galley style kitchen, but spacious (doesn't feel cramped at all), built-in desk area next to the kitchen with washer and dryer at the end of the kitchen. The countertops are that grayish office kitchen material. BALCONY: Very spacious. AMENITIES: Nice pool and jacuzzi. The fitness center seems a little weak. In the top 2 choices of many apartments my bf has looked at. I liked it a lot. The craftsman like style on the outside is very nice. read more

Don't do it, much cheaper around area with covered parking provided, long story short, old units, high cost to rent and not a secure area, be prepared to hear someone in the dumpsters at night banging around like King Kong at 3 am, Had a guy offer me crack, and other drugs as I was preparing to walk up my stairs one night, not what I expected and at that point I just was like no more. I am not one to be needy or ask for assistance but after it got bad and no issues were resolved with security i.e. the mail boxes, like the whole bank of them were attempted to be ripped out and stolen I pretty much wrote it off, along with four vagrants sleeping in the electrical space on the first floor of where I was living, At the end I said nothing seems to get resolved and a bunch of others have complained prior to me so why am I paying $1750 for a two bedroom with no parking, I decided to move out early, Bad idea, I should of read the lease they have better, thought it was like my previous and gave 60 days notice, Nope you need to pay two months rent to break it and that's that, apx $3200 Clean your apartment all you like, hire the best cleaner, replace the carpet, and repaint all the walls, I bet you won't get a penny returned, Maybe if you present receipts, Good luck in you search but please move on, nothing to see here (; really don't do it !!! read more

Living here was a temporary option for me until my job transferred me out of state. In the year and few months I lived here, myself and neighbors were harassed with irrelevant and unproven lease violations left and right. They spray painted an area of dead grass and the paint would wear off in the rain or from the sprinklers. We got accused of letting our dogs pee in this area. Jodi was unresponsive to any concerns I brought her. By the end of my stay, she turned nasty and condescending. Something else that always bugged me- the assinine amount of inspections that Jodi and her henchmen always crafted to enter the apartment every few months. Alex, on the other hand, was great responding to my repair requests. Upon move out, I was charged with an assinine amount of fees for absolutely no reason, something in the $800 range. I had already paid $200 for the apartment to be professionally cleaned and bought the paint they required to do touch-ups myself. She charged me for a "nasty toliet". Since the apartment was clean when I turned in the keys, I assume I got charged for a few days of hard water accumulation. Other charges included "medium cleaning" fees and basically a full paint job. So be prepared to bring your deposit plus some extra dollars and expect to deal with this Class A f*ck*ry on move out. Notice most of the positive reviews are from people who are currently living in the community. Will be interesting to see if Jodi continues charging everyone for her full painting jobs at $500+ after move out. Security in this place was a joke. Definitely give Apartment Ratings a preview before signing a lease. It has numerous accusations that management has been leaving fake reviews and there are more colorful accounts of the security problems in the complex- including pictures of homeless people sleeping in the stairwells. Due to it being near the levee, there is a lot of vagrant foot traffic in the area late at night. I see rent has gone up $500 since I lived there 3 years ago- HA! read more

I was here just recently and what a disappointment. I remember Jodi being a very friendly two years ago when I took a friend there to look at their apartments. A few days ago I look my daughter to view the community and the service was the very worst. Jodi was rude and threw her assistant to help me and she was about as sharp as wooden spoons in the drawer. Goodness ladies what the hell happened to you? My daughter says to me" if this is what you call service I want to live in no such place". What a disappointment! read more

Let me preface this by saying we initially had a great experience renting with McKenzie until the move-out. Do NOT rent apartments from this complex unless you're OK with losing your $300 deposit as well as being charged $580 (you pay 70% of this) for a FULL paint job that was unnecessary. On our lease it said "painting in order to correct damages beyond normal wear and tear". During our initial inspection, Jodi Hoeltje discussed with us what needed to be done before move-out (such as cleaning, etc) and informed they might need to do a bit of painting and some touch-up. (FYI, we are three pharmacy students who were in Sacramento for a year on rotations, so we were barely even home since we worked long hours 12-15 hours/day. We never drilled anything in the walls. We never had any parties, wish we had the time to.) My roommate and I had been on the phone with Jodi everyday negotiating the unnecessary paint job and asking questions regarding it. I asked Jodi to send us pictures of "damages" that she claimed we had caused and which she had described as "scratches" to my roommate. She sent us pictures of walls that did not have scratches and some spots, except for a piece of gold ribbon we taped on the wall for Thanksgiving and accidentally left behind. These could easily be fixed with "touch up" like Jodi had informed us during initial inspection. Just FYI, Jodi has been very difficult to speak with over the phone so be prepared for that. She keeps denying the fact that she said "touch up" and accuses me of "interrupting" when I merely asked if she could explain how the pictures (3 pictures with faint spots) warrant an ENTIRE full paint job when our lease only stated painting is for correcting damages beyond normal wear and tear?" She kept avoiding answering this simple question and even recounted her conversation with my roommate saying that she stated during inspection "It needed touchup and it is too late in the day to tell how much we would charge you for painting. If you were there during the initial inspection you would know". And I pointed out, "I was there. And you said touchup, not full paint job!" in which she quickly replied "I didn't. You're putting words in my mouth." to which I responded "You literally just said it 2 seconds ago". Jodi was just very, very difficult to speak to. It got to a point that we began arguing and I finally had enough and said, "Why don't we take this to a small claims court? I have pictures too." and Jodi goes, "No you don't". and I go, "How do you know?" and she goes, "Your roommate P said you guys did not take pictures" (mind you, I ask P about this later and P said she never told Jodi whether or not we had pictures) and so I go, "Well, P doesn't know I took pictures and I think it's best if we take this to a small claims court" to which Jodi goes "Well, fine, I'm gonna tell you what the lawyer will say to you and it is that it should be returned in the same condition." and I go, "I understand that. But you never showed the damages of scratches or even explained to me WHY these minor spots warranted a FULL paint job. You never even answered that question". Jodi then goes, "You know what. Why don't you just write in a letter what YOU WANT. Because all this time, you have not told me what you want and I am busy I can't deal with this right now". I go "Why don't I tell you what I want now instead of a letter since I have you on the phone. We don't want to pay for the FULL paint job that was unnecessary" and Jodi goes, "We can't do that. We already gave you a $50 discount which we didn't even have to and doing you a favor" and at this point, I get tired and say, "Look, I'm willing to compromise if you're willing to compromise." Jodi responds, "You're saying I'm NOT willing to compromise? We've been compromising with the $50" I say "$50 is nothing in comparison to the $450 overcharge we have to pay" and she goes "$50 is still $50 and you guys don't even deserve it and we're only doing it as a favor due to a misunderstanding" and I go, "Fine, how about halfway? We don't even think we should even pay a FULL paint job that we were never informed of but since we can't come to an agreement, I am willing to go halfway". Finally Jodi said we couldn't go halfway and was only able to give us at best a $130 discount so the charges ended up to be $320 (without getting our deposit back) So, all in all, apartment was safe and great to live in. BUT I would never EVER recommend this to anyone unless you are willing to fork out $$$ upon move out. I have 10 years of experience renting at least 7 different places in California, not once have I encountered such an illegitimate business. At most, my full deposit was taken away for cleaning charges, but never ever have I been overcharged hundreds of dollars IN ADDITION to being blindsided by it. Jodi, i would love to get my deposit back. If you are a legitimate business, you would not charge $500 for carpet cleaning and repainting.

Horrible customer service. My husband walked in at 5:30 to inquire about a three bedroom and the lady would not even discuss it with him! She said they close at 6 so he would need to come back. That would have given her 30 minutes to say yes or no! They just lost a potential resident. Way to go! read more

Worst place I had ever rent in my entire life. I've been renting at many places with no issues and getting all my deposits back and good rental history. Took all of our deposit back just to re-paint one kitchen wall which was painted wrongly before we moved in. This was the scam, on our first day to visit the apartment, it was difficult to tell the paint was off in the kitchen since the kitchen is located at a dark corner. Management even told us "everything" has been cleaned and "repaint". On our last walk thru day, Andrew mentioned the kitchen wall was dirty and this will affect our deposit amount return. Such a good excuse to keep our deposit. Terrible management, do not rent at McKenzie, Natomas Park please believe me. Stay away from scammers and trouble. Also, Our apartment heater never worked, we called management many times to come and fix it and the only answer we had from them was "the heater takes time to heat". Never came and checked. Even with the heater on the all day, temperature inside stayed 73. Rent is also over priced. Mackenzie is a scam, stay away! read more

Horrible Office Staff I will not recommend this place to anyone. I had a lease for 6 months and was in the process of buying a home, I will receive the keys to my house in December and my lease was up in November so i decided to do month to month for 1 month. Was charged 2 times what my normal rent was and a bunch of fees total for 1 month was $3,000.00. This 1 bedroom apartment is not worth it. Decided to speak with staff and they told me it was my problem and was eventually kicked out the office. Office staff rude, unprofessional, horrible experience. read more

So far I have been a part of this community for a little over a year, so it is a good time to review. I find this community to be quiet, quaint and welcoming. The maintenance requests are always done in a timely manner and I can request a repair, pay my rent or message staff all on my phone using an app. I must say this apartment community is the best I have experienced in my renting/leasing history. Keep in mind if you're considering McKenzie; carports and garages are an extra fee outside of rent, there is a middle and high school across the street and it is a non-smoking community (LOVE THAT!) read more

We have lived here at The McKenzie Apartments for 1 and a half years now. The staff here are very helpful. Maintenance is always available when we need their help. The office staff is very welcoming everytime we go in to pick up our packages. They looked into our complaints (noisy neighbors and people parking in your carport) and resolve it within 24 hours. read more

I just moved into a one bedroom, one bath and the first thing I noticed about this complex is the overall look of the property. The grounds are well kept and even my apartment looked brand new when I moved in. But what mattered to me the most was how friendly and helpful the staff were. Janine and Jodi were very welcoming and provided outstanding service! They're willing to accommodate your needs to the best of their ability and they are really organized to keep you updated on any events happening at the complex. read more

I have lived in these apartment for 4 years and I would have to say that if I didn't go to the school across the street I probably would've made it 1 year. The apartment manager was nice at first, but then very rude. The rest of the staff is very kind and helpful. The gym is outdated and dirty. The rec room is a waste of space. It is expensive to use and too much of a hassle. Just not worth the trouble with the front office. On the plus side the bathrooms for the pool are nice and requested repairs are made on time. Neighbors keep to themselves more of the time, but are typically friendly. Apartment appearance is kept clean, and that's about it. read more

Great place to live, if you are lazy and a filthy person please stay away from this wonderful community, if you do not have consideration and respect for other people please stay away from McKenzie at Natomas. Jodi, Camryn, Alex and Matt are the greatest people in McKenzie. Apartments are incredible with some old-north European taste. I chose McKenzie because of the apartment size and overall appearance of the complex. People seem to keep to themselves which is a huge plus. This is the second time I have lived here. The first time was 2 years and now I'm back working on my third year. Management and maintenance are consistent, prompt and, professional. I'd do it all over again. read more

I have been living at this community for the past 2 years. Pretty decent apartment complex. Easy access to roads, groceries , quite clam, near to airport and safe. All the necessary facilities are with in the unit. read more
