The orchard grows a ton of different apple varieties so there's good picking during the full apple season. We got to choose between Zestar and Jerseymac apples during our visit. I'm a big fan of crisp and tart so the Zestars fit the bill. Peach picking was a bit of the same only fewer varieties. Raspberry picking was a fun new experience. You're essentially hunting and the fruit that is ready to be picked will slide off their cone-like cores. Since it was early in the season most of the berries were small or immature and there were a ton of bees buzzing around. I mean a ton where you'd go to pick and they would be buzzing around your hand. Don't worry though! The bees are friendly and indifferent to your picking the fruit. Just be gentle. Pro tip: come on a day where there's a breeze. We went on a still day in August and it was hot! 90 minutes in the sun and we were feeling pretty crunchy.

We had a nice little conversation about growing basil while they were pricing tubs of corn chowder. Dennis asked if we liked corn chowder and we said yes, so he told us he was giving us a tub of his to try cause it will be the best we ever had! While it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was pretty damn near close! The corn was great, the tomatoes were great, the squash was great! The pick your own blueberries were delightful! We had an amazing time together as it wasn't overly busy and the other guests were respectful of others and the rows were well maintained. There were many rows to pick at and the man at the service counter was extremely nice. He let us know where we were able to pick (in which rows) and he gave us information about how much weight wise the tray of blueberries could hold as opposed to the pint containers. It was a great experience all around. Who doesn't love to be outside picking berries on a beautiful summer day?! Remember to bring a light arm coving or sunscreen as the sun can get hot. There were still ripe strawberries but they required a bit of hunting for the ripest. A worker informed me that they have regulars, "jammies," that show up at 7 and pick galore. Whether jammies refers to jam makers, whether they are still wearing jammies, or both, I don't know. But his advice, the earlier the better. There are 4 strawberry fields, worth it to check each one for different selections. I was there 6/20 and there were still loads of strawberries to ripen. I think they expect to have strawberries until mid July, but they update daily on their recorded phone line.

The corts and macs are always crisp and delicious; the blueberry options are lovely whether you want sweet or tart; the juicy donut peaches are unlike anything I've ever had anywhere (#TeamTangO)... in general, the picking is abundant and plentiful year after year after year. And they do a fantastic job daily updating their website with what's in season, out of season, picked out for the season, pricing structure (it makes sense if you know how hard they tried to stay open during the pandemic/the cost of growing quality and environmentally conscious fruits), etc. The views of the surrounding countryside are breathtaking. The glazed blueberry donuts are the best blueberry donuts I've ever had from anywhere ever. And the people who work here are absolutely the friendliest human beings on earth and genuinely remember you year after year. They make you feel like a welcome part of their family, and I love that (especially in a more automated, less personalized society). If you ever get the chance to talk to the owner about the science of apples (pomology) or the history and future of their personal agricultural story, you absolutely should.
