It pains me to leave this review but this office is just so, so poorly run. The long and short of it is that they overschedule, leading to incredibly long waits. I visited this office a total of five times before finding a new doctor. My waits were 1 hour, 1 hour, 1 hour and 14 minutes, 1 hour and 30 minutes and 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was with the last one, which was for a weight check of all things that I finally decided I needed to find a new office. The doctors here are fine--similar to most doctors. I would not say they are particularly great with children, nor are they bad with them. They are competent. Appointments do feel a bit rushed--probably because they are always about an hour behind--at least. The nurses are hit and miss. Some are very personable, and some are not so great with kids. The biggest problem at this office, and the thing I've heard from other parents who have left it is that the wait times are intolerably long. 15 minutes, sure. Thirty, no problem. But when you are waiting an hour or more for every appointment, even the simple quick ones? Nope. I used to be the office manager at a medical office and this is not how you run your business! These doctors are losing money because whoever is doing their scheduling is doing a terrible job. I think if they simply restructured their scheduling to have fewer patients per hour, they'd be much better off. read more

We have been patients of McLean Pediatric with Drs. Thiede and Pratt for over twenty years. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are caring, thorough, dedicated physicians who have a wonderful way of relating to their young patients and are always ready to go above and beyond. The medical assistants are friendly and accomplished and the office staff is efficient and professional. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful practice in downtown McLean that works hard to see their patients asap. read more

Too much waiting time. make sure you ha e at least 2 hours when you come for appointments. The do to enter in room takes 1 hour when there is not a single patient present. so do the mat. my sick daughter fall a sleep when we were waiting for doctor and had to wake that poor thing up when doctor finally came after an hour long wait. My older son has been seen by Dr. Thiede since he was one years old. My younger son was seen by Dr. Thiede since birth. We have gone through a few doctors for my older son before we started to see Dr. Thiede. She was the "young doctor" at the old McLean Pediatric location. My children are both in college now. We love Dr. Thiede. My older son had asthma whenever he had a cold. He used to get sick a lot as a child. One time, he got pretty sick, Dr. Thiede saw him on a Saturday after the office closed. She also asked that we brought him back to the office on Sunday so she can check on him again. Their office is closed on Sundays. Needless to say, she is truly a caring doctor. She is gentle with children. She is calm and friendly. Their staff changed some over the years. But I still see familiar faces when we go for the annual visits. Over the years, there were times when we had to wait awhile for the doctor. But I totally understand that. I appreciated when Dr. Thiede spends the time with my children and answers my questions. When she does that for all her patients, there would be times when things get delayed. After all these years, I still feel we were lucky that we found Dr. Thiede. read more

The reviews sounded so good and this practice came highly recommended by the local Facebook group so I thought we would develop a great relationship here. I was so disappointed from the very beginning! The doctor wasn't wearing a mask because she was vaccinated (though none of the kids were at that time?!). Then I needed a school form and was told it was a $20 charge and another $10 if I wanted it that day. Also, no emails - fax or in person only just to send them this standard FCPS form to fill out. So I had to drop off the form, pay an extra $10 and then couldn't pick it up until later in the afternoon for the expedited timeframe. My last straw was just recently, when I received a bill for 3 office visits from early January. Our family caught covid right before Christmas, and when I checked the FCPS website it looked like we would need a doctor's note for the kids to return to school after the new year. So on the first snow day in January, I called the office to ask if they knew about this policy and if I could get a note if needed. The doctor asked for more details and said yep I can call her or stop by the office if I need a note. Later that week, I spoke to the school nurse and I no longer needed to get the note. End of April - I get a call from the office and a bill by mail for 3 office visit copays - one for each child. I called to dispute it and they claimed that the office visits were telehealth exams, and that the doctor had notes about how we were coughing and gave us medical advice on our symptoms. When I argued that this was a mere phone call, I never made an appointment and I thought it was absurd to charge us for 3 medical exams, they told me they could waive 2 copays if I paid for the last one over the phone upfront. I refused the copay and will be disputing this charge with my insurance company. I cannot believe any patient should be charged over a simple question regarding how to get a doctor's note over the phone, especially without any warning upfront that my call had turned into an office visit medical exam. And I expect our doctors to care enough to be willing to speak over the phone, even if just to let us know when we need to meet with them for further care. read more

Small practice with pleasant staff. Never had a problem scheduling an appointment, even same day for sick visits during flu season. Both doctors have good bedside manners and seem knowledgeable although I suspect Dr. Thiede has been around longer due to it being a little tougher to get on her schedule. That said, I've never felt rushed during a visit with either doctor and the check in/check out process at the front was seamless. Overall our experiences here are stress free. The office is clean and there's a separate waiting area that is walled off for sick children (with a tile floor that can easily be sanitized!). I like that this practice is more focused on treating patients and less on their social media profiles and online web presence. I'm reserving the last star for an exceptional experience under worrisome circumstances. Fortunately my child is generally healthy so we have not experienced the "full gamut" of scenarios in which we would rely on this practice yet. Perhaps our child's health is a testament to the great doctors? read more

We first began going to McLean Pediatrics in November 2012 when our first daughter was born. I originally chose this practice because of Dr. Evers (he was on the recommended list at Tepeyac Family Center), and as a new parent, I always felt listened to and taken care of by Dr. Evers and Dr. Thiede. Whenever I needed to bring my daughter in because of sickness, they were able to schedule me right away and our wait times for both our sick and well visits were never very long. Since then, they've moved into a new building, Dr. Evers has retired and Dr. Pratt is now on staff (who we love!) The space is a lot bigger than their old office and still has separate 'sick' and 'well' waiting areas. I appreciate the time they've taken to make the place welcoming -- it is tastefully decorated and the staff is super friendly (which is an improvement from the last location. I wonder if it's because they have more space behind the reception area and they're actually able to interact with incoming patients? Or maybe the staff is bigger than before? Not sure). When I had to bring my daughter into the office several days in a row, they recognized us (which I don't take for granted) and put us at ease simply by acknowledging that they knew who we were and taking the time to engage in conversation with my 2 year-old. When our second daughter was born this past June, I was sad to have to switch doctors since we now live in Reston and the thought of having to drive into McLean with a newborn was not appealing. Now that we are with a new pediatrician's office and have something to compare our experience to, it's even more obvious how great McLean Pediatrics is. If you're looking for doctors who take their time with their patients and a staff that makes their patients feel taken care of, I highly recommend them! read more

The doctors and staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the office environment is very comfortable. Our children enjoy going to see the dr. Competent, effective, ethical. I have found them competent, effective, and ethical. They are willing to acommodate alternative vaccination schedules (doing fewer at a time) to better see reactions to vaccinations. They have ethical alternatives to some vaccinations with morally problematic provenance. And Dr. Thiede is always very friendly and communicative. Their social media presence, web site, and phone system are woefully out of date, but I'm happy to patronize them anyway. Good group. Dr. Evers is retired now, but I always liked him too. read more

I love their practice, the doctors are caring and actually take their time to explain things. Most importantly, they really listen to the parents/patients regarding concerns, medication side effects, etc. Not at all arrogant or opinionated. Front desk staff is okay, nurses are warm, I am really here to see the doctors, so as long as these two doctors are here, I will keep taking my kids to see them. read more

Went there four times, and the average waiting time exceeded 50 minutes. Doctor is just ok, and staff is not friendly as other places. We were sent to INOVA hospital to do a flu test. Definitely will not go back again. read more

We've been taking both our boys to McLean Pediatrics since their births at Virginia Hospital Center. Both doctors are wonderful, practical and conservative with antibiotics - which I appreciate. They never seem rushed and always take time with the boys and with us to explain what is going on and what our options are. Nothing to complain about here. The front office is courteous. They even know my kids even though they are healthy and only come a few times a year. Wait is never long. You can always get an appointment in pretty soon, sometimes within the hour. I was so sad to see Dr. Evers retire. We do go to Dr. Thiede now and have seen Dr. O'Brian for weekend sick visits. They are both wonderful Dr's and love the new location. We do an alternative vaccination schedule which the Dr's seem supportive to how the parents are the ones raising the child. All calls have been returned promptly and I have always been able to get in last minute for appointments. The only problem I have run into is a tech/nurse aid that works there he seems a little nosey and pushy at times. read more

The Dr's in this practice are wonderful. They have always been completely on point when it comes to diagnoses. My only issue would be their front staff. I am new to the area, and have been looking for a pediatrician. I have read some positive and negative reviews for this practice, and thought I would give it a try. I found the staff to be pretty disorganized during early interactions, but thought it could have been an off day. I wasn't impressed when we went for a sick appointment, but was willing to give them one more try. However, in calling to make a regular well child appointment, the receptionist was unhelpful and downright rude. I will not be taking my kids back here. read more

Dr. Pratt is ok, but oh my God - their staff at the reception is not courteous at all, they treat you as they are making you a favor. Waiting time 50 minutes minimum. Staff processing referrals mix information and send them late to the insurance. Billing staff is rude. Don't even think about requesting your kid's medical history, because they will not want to share, only if you change practice! And you have to pay to have access to your file. Unbelievable. I am so glad I changed practice, so fed up of this people. read more

We have been taking our baby to McLean Pediatrics since he was born and couldn't be happier. It's easy to get same-day appointments if needed and they have office hours on Saturday as well. this is a pretty terrible and unprofessional practice. I was a patient here up until I was 18 and was enthusiastically misdiagnosed with herpes and lice (i know, how do you even misdiagnose someone with lice), denied birth control on the grounds that it's "immoral", been yelled at by a nurse practitioner when asked for an explanation of a medical procedure that the doctor was about to perform on me, and been refused a legitimate medical note for school because i tried to leave the practice and wouldn't schedule another yearly checkup. go elsewhere- your children deserve better. read more

I love this practice and was so sad to move away. The doctors are open minded and very respectful of parent views and rights. We believe in vaccinating but wanted to do a slightly adjusted version of the CDC schedule. At each appointment, Dr. Thiede explained why its important to vaccinate but did not pressure us at all and helped us determine a schedule we were comfortable with. We've had a hard time finding a practice as respectful now that we've moved! We primarily saw Dr. Thiede but both doctors were very calm and nice to deal with. The office staff was always friendly and getting appointments was very easy. Bonus - they do hospital rounds at Virginia Hospital Center so we got to see the same doctors right from day one of our child's birth! read more
