There was substantial rainfall in December 2025 in Marin county and the garage ceiling started to leak on New Year's Eve. I was stressed with getting help during a holiday, worried about water damage and having to miss work to meet with a repairman. My roof is under warranty so when I contacted McLeran Roofing for help, they responded immediately and sent Martin out who had to fight the rain and Larspur flooding and 101 shutdown to get to my home on my only day off. He was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and flooded roads for 6 hours and Martin wouldn't give up ( normally the drive would be 20 mins). Thankfully, he arrived safely and inspected everything and pinpointed the siding and other likely causes of the leak. The roof was not the cause of the leak. He even inspected and cleared some rain gutters giving me some helpful suggestions. The roof was replaced by the previous owner but after this positive experience, I would highly recommend their services and will recommend them to my friends and family. They arrived on the planned dates, to do the work and finished as planned. The discovered rot, under a couple of the roofs they were replacing, the pricing, wasn't excessive. They did several roof, while I was out of the country, I did NOT have to be there to monitor them. Their pricing was in line, a tad lower than my other two estimates. With the amount of water from the skies this winter, the leak that had water coming down in my kitchen, the tarping they did to preclude more damage before several rainfree days allowed a total ripping off my roof, removal of more than one under layer, removing/replacing 7 skylights and coordinating seemlessly with my solar company in removing/reinstalling all my panels all the while notifying me when the hard working crew would be there, what they would be doing and timing, covering outside plants for any falling debris and a total cleanup when all completed...what more could one want? 5 stars from me! read more

I was impressed how the large number of simultaneous workers handled the different areas at the same time and materials were delivered to them as needed - so there was no change in pace throughout the days of the install. I called McLeran and the lady I spoke to said they don't do free estimates and it costs $600.00 just to come out to look at the leak. Sara and the entire team at McLeran provided outstanding service as we navigated a complex situation where our roof leaks were found to be due to a faulty solar electric installation. The solar company denied responsibility both up front and through the entirety of our roof replacement, and McLeran provided me photos and helpful guidance as to how to document the situation clearly and fairly. Their team came out on two (!) extra occasions to monitor the solar reinstall and ensure the reinstallation did not produce additional problems, and when they found faults corrected them quickly. Sara and I talked for months getting all the particulars straight: figuring out style, color, and how it would all go down. I really appreciated a woman's understanding of my concerns and attention to detail, as re-roofing can be messy business. We had no plywood sheeting and crumbling tiles on the old roof, and I could imagine all too well the mess I was in for. Sara had solutions! On tear off day, multiple trucks arrived. In 3 1/2 days of dealing with the multiple levels of our roof, the team tore off, placed all new plywood sheeting and installed our beautiful new roof. McLaren installed the roof on our home about 10 years ago for the previous owner. We moved into the home about 17 months ago and this year we noticed during the recent rain that we had a leak coming in through our closet. We called McLaren after the prior owner confirmed that they'd installed the room. They sent a team out who spent about 10 minutes applying some kind of epoxy or glue to seal off the leak (spoiler alert: leak was not fixed). Now they want to charge us $600 for shoddy work. I understand that they have a lot of good reviews on yelp, but this experience was god awful. read more

I had a roof leak in January during the downpours. McLeran sent someone out right away and charged $250 for that visit. At the time, they verbally stated that a more permanent fix should be made in the summer. I asked for a written proposal, to understand what needed fixing, which they sent on Feb 28. That proposal made reference to also fixing items called out in an inspection report from another company that we had been given in November, when in contract to purchase the house, and which I had sent to McLaren. On March 28. They responded by saying that they are fully booked for all of 2022 and could not fit in anywhere my relatively small job. I give them 5 stars for coming out quickly once contacted about a leak, but no stars for not being able to finish the job they started at that time. read more

This review covers our new roof (installed June 2018) and our experience with Brian McLeran over several years, doing inspections of the previous 30 year old roof. First - Brian won't sell you something you don't need. We have appreciated his honest evaluations. Second - Brian takes the necessary time to review the job site and protect mature landscaping. Brian and his crew managers walked our property three separate times before starting work to set up protocols for minimizing damage. Third - when there is an issue (a clogged downspout we noticed after the first heavy rain) the office manager, Sara, facilitates a quick service call to get the problem solved. We had to call these guys to help take a look at the roof of a house we were currently in contract to buy. I was pretty desperate as one roofer told me it was a disaster and said the entire roof had to be replaced, whereas a home inspector said it was fine. My realtor spoke with the owner, who came out himself to look at our roof. Not only did he charge and extremely reasonable rate of $150 for an inspection, (other companies charged $250 - 295 and wold not even come out as they said they were too busy), but he gave an extremely detailed and HONEST assessment of the roof which was that is was TOTALLY FINE. I will use the guys in a heartbeat if ever I do need someone no doubt. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was that their office manager Sara was EXTREMELY rude to deal with, and frankly had I not been desperate I would have gone elsewhere. But my realtor said Brian was so awesome on the phone with her that I reconsidered and am so glad that I did. Its funny I noticed the only bad reviews they seem to get are due to the prickly reception and utter lack of customer service that Sara seems to think is OK. I had my roof replaced by McLeran about 10 years ago, before Yelp was big, but every day I'm reminded about the shoddy work they do, so I haven't forgotten the details, plus I still have all the letters I had to write to them. So here goes. I had a Spanish tile roof completely replaced by this company. The rain gutters were removed in the process and had to be replaced. I asked them during the job whether I should have the new gutters installed at the same time as the roof. They said no. After they finished, I had several gutter companies come out and none of them would bid on the job, because, they said, the way the roof was installed, they had no room to insert the gutter flashing properly. They showed me how the roofing crew placed the nails that held down the plywood and felt barrier too close to the edge of the roof, leaving insufficient room for the gutter flashing to be tucked under the waterproof felt. Without the flashing under the felt, the rain would flow to the plywood and other wooden structures and not just into the gutter, causing mold and dry rot. I had to write to McLaren SEVEN times before they finally helped to convince a gutter company to work with them and jerry rig a system that would allow the gutters to work properly. The final job is warped and uneven. Beyond that, you can see many exposed nails on the underside of the eaves, where his sloppy crew was nailing down the plywood sheathing and missed the rafters, driving the nails into open space. These exposed nails were open and obvious to see but neither the workers nor their usually absent boss, Brian, bothered to remove the errant nails before declaring the job complete and running off to the next job. Extremely unprofessional. McLeran's was the lowest bid I received and my experience is proof that you get what you pay for. read more

Too bad we can't give them TEN stars!! We recently had our roof replaced by McLaren Roofing of San Rafael. On a scale of 10, they are way beyond! Sara (the office administrator and president of the company) and her husband Martin, the project manager, are a dynamic duo who leave no detail overlooked. When Martin came to our home in June to assess the job, I asked him how soon they could come, and he replied that they were fully booked until November--but that they "might" be able to squeeze us in earlier: the job was finished in 3 days in August! Sara was extremely helpful in selecting color. We chose to go with a high end heat reflecting shingle that is difficult to find, She and Martin were able to put together a package from two different sources. Their crack team were experienced and knew what they were doing. Most of them had been with the company for a number of years. The men are obviously treated well, and it shows in the quality of their workmanship. At the end of each of their three days here, they meticulously cleaned up debris in the yard and surrounding area. McLaren Roofing is highly recommended!! read more

I replaced my roof in conjunction with the roof of the adjacent townhome, which had sustained such damage that certain areas of their ceiling were sagging. An initial review of the roofing project (by a building inspector) yielded some solutions that were going to require extensive interior changes. Brian McLeran carefully listened to my concerns about the interior work, then came up with a creative solution that didn't involve interior changes at all. About 20 minutes after my initial call to them, they were on my roof applying a quick patch. They also cleaned out the gutters around my house. The work was done quickly however they decided to change the slope of our house (without consulting with us) and created all these issues around water falling off the roof and ruining plants, and creating a lot of noise. When we asked them about it they just referred us to hire someone to do gutter work.
