We are so pleased with the excellent service we received from Scott and all his crew at McMillan Tree Service! A great price, as the job was difficult since it was an extremely tall redwood tree in a narrow area between two houses with another house off to the side. The guys methodically removed the tree skirt (hey, I am a lay person who doesn't know the terms), then did the precision cuts in safe increments. Their method ensured that the logs fell into a prescribed area to save our nearby old crepe myrtle and Rose of Sharon trees from collateral damage. He also miraculously avoided cracking the pavement when the heavy crane was in position. We can't say the same for another local company we used who charged us extra for a platform to supposedly avoid cracks and they wrecked our walkway. Not so with McMillan's crew ... they ROCKED this job! And when on Day 2 the wind would have put the crew at risk, the owner called it off and notified us when they would return to ensure his crew was safe and our other trees weren't at risk because they would lack the needed control of the falling cut wood. We were impressed at his safety measures. Also, they courteously cleaned up after themselves with blowing all of our back and front yard where they had the chipper and trailer stationed at times. It all looks great. We were sad to see the beautiful redwood go, but we're thrilled at the job the entire crew did and the owner, Scott, was great to work with for sure. Home Depot hired this Clown, McMillan. He and his obese helper stood in my way as I exited in my vehicle. They told me I couldn't leave because the road I was on was not a street. ( it is ) I explained My vehicle didn't have reverse and I am disabled. They wouldn't let me pass, I told him they were liars and used my good leg to push my car back enough to turn and leave. I would think twice about hiring this business. read more

Scott came out to remove a dead oak tree on my property that was hanging over my shed, powerlines, and a currently immobile car. He was able to get above it all and take it down piece by piece, making sure to drop the pieces so as not to cause any damage to anything. Wasn't able to use him because I can't afford $75 for an estimate on what needs to be done and how much. Maybe I'm just poor but who can afford to have $75 added to the expense of tree service. Not me. But he was courteous. After speaking to him I called another Tree Service and they happily explained that they would come out and give me an estimate and look at my trees for free. They said if I had a sick tree and it was a diagnosis that needed to be done then there would be a $75 charge that if I had them fix it would be incorporated into the cost of repairing the tree. Scott is, by far, the best "Go To" tree person in the area! I have called him for several jobs. Once in an emergency and other times for routine trimming at my home. He has always come out immediately and given a professional opinion of what and how the process will go. Often, he has done more than what I would have generally expected and has even charged me less than the estimate when the job went more quickly than anticipated! We had Scott McMillan & his crew take down numerous trees on our property back in early December. Even though they say the roads will be cleared before they leave, there were some logs left in the way but no problem, that wasn't a big deal....the big deal was when they left a tree lodged up against another, which is a safety hazard for our Grandchildren & the power lines.. Seems this would be obvious to the worker that the tree didn't fall. My husband contacted Scott McMillan re: this issue & thought it would be resolved in a pleasant, professional matter...but the owner has shown how inconsiderate, incompetent, unprofessional etc he is towards clients. Here it is February, my husbands calls which were few & far between btw went unanswered, straight to voice mail. So we called from our cell # on Friday the 28th of January, because the jerk didn't know that #, of course he answered thinking he was going to get another customer, when he realized it was my husband, hung up on him...professional right? Of course he's not registered with the BBB..that would include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. Obviously we will NEVER refer him..a cut above the rest? We had several trees on our new property that needed attention. They had been neglected for some time. Scott and his crew did a beautiful job trimming an old oak and cutting back lots of overhanging branches on some pines. The crew is pleasant and professional. They made sure everything was cleaned up, too. I felt better having a certified arborist work on the old oak since it had been some time that it had been trimmed back. They got way up into the tree and cut off a lot of dead wood. It looks great. Highly recommend McMillan. read more

I will never use this service again. While he didn't take down my tree, I hired him to mill the wood into lumber. The agreement was that I would contact him when I had time to be there to supervise the milling process. I am a long-time (3rd generation) craftsman and woodworker with many years experience at mill work. While out of cell service he called me twice in two days. When I did not respond he cut my logs up. He charged me $450. Wow! He milled the wood improperly and now it is warped badly and mostly unusable. When I was able to get back to him (a couple days later) I nearly told him to just keep the wood. Now, I wish I had done so. read more

While in the process of bringing down a 40 foot oak tree it fell into the oak tree next to it instead of coming down the way I had planned and threatened to fall in the neighbors yard Who is in the process of finalizing the sale of her house. Had Scott and his crew up to our property in Forest Ranch again,this time for a diagnosis and recommendation for about 15 dead and dying trees on our 5 acre property. Scott came up earlier than we expected to check out the situation as we were very concerned about the winds that could take these trees down causing possible property damage or worse. He laid out a plan that sounded pretty optimistic, but affordable. When he and his crew showed up and went to work, we were a little worried as several of the trees were too big or leaning towards buildings and we didn't see how they could be cut down safely. Scott soon put our fears to rest as he and his crew expertly took on each tree and laid it safely on the ground without mashing anything! Some came down in pieces and some came down all in one piece drawing neighbors and spectators. Scott even trimmed up one of our Japanese maples as a courtesy bonus and it looks great! Scott and his crew came to our residence in Magalia and removed 5 trees and dead limbed several others. Several of the trees curved out and over neighbors and posed a risk. Scott and his crew were able to remove them and dropped everything safely in our backyard. Scott and his crew were great in dropping all 5 trees exactly as quoted and as I asked the wood to be left for our use and clean-up. His estimate was more than fair in our opinion. They were so good in fact he had pointed out one large oak that leaned into our garage and over the neighbors yard, had been treated at one time in an effort to save it but failed. The tree needed to come down also. So we had them back the very next day and they completely dropped it and left it as requested also. I would highly recommend McMillan Tree Service to anyone in need of Tree work of any kind. Even with limited access down our driveway, overhanging Ramada Roof stuck out, Scott and his crew were able to position there bucket and the reach and climbing ability were something to see.
