This was our second time using Robert Tompkins tree service. The first time we had them remove 2 tremendously large trees on either side of our house. They also removed a dozen trees, some smaller, some larger. They did excellent work, at a great price. Fast forward two years, we had an enormous limb fall on top of our house. We were fortunate nobody was hurt. We called Robert and he rearranged his schedule to help us out. He was out the next day, and we had the whole spar removed. It was clear that the remaining tree was not safe. Robert and his crew professionally removed the tree. I was impressed - this was a dangerous, incredibly tall tree, with hazards on every side - no problem for them. The price was great for the work, and they also dropped the firewood off for us as requested. I have high praises for Robert and his crew. We will call him whenever we have tree work. Robert was relatively easy to deal with. Prices were very fair. Project was started in December, this was not an abnormally large project, the crew would show up every couple weeks and work for a few hours. The work that was actually completed I'm very happy with but the job was never finished even after being paid for in full. Once February (two months later) hit i rounded up a truck and a few friends and finished the job myself that i had paid Robert to do. Like i said the work that was completed looks good but over three months to remove five trees is not acceptable. I provided ample opportunities to come back and complete the work it just never happened. I would not use again nor will i ever recommend. Nice guy, needs to follow through with his word. read more

We hired Robert Thomkins Tree Service last week he did a great job everything that we agreed on having cut he completed he also did extra work and he was always available if we had any questions and called us right back. His crew works very hard they were precise detailed and did a very good job and anything else that we pointed out they were happy to take it out. Mr. Tompkins has 20 years experience with trees and he was very knowledgeable about what trees should be cut and what trees were fine to leave and everything that we agreed to he completed if I ever needed to speak with him he was always available and very friendly. His crew were very helpful and nice and if I needed anything done they were right there to do it as Robert was too. A big limb had fallen from an old Modesto Ash tree in Chico that almost hit the neighbor's house on a Sunday. Robert answered his phone personally and went right over to take a look at the situation. He informed me that the tree was diseased, a hazard and recommended its removal which I suspected. The job was tricky since there were many electrical and other wires entangled in the tree branches which required careful and skillful removal. Robert and his very respectful crew came the next day to begin the job which included grinding the old stump and cleaning up immaculately. Since I have a wood stove, he even brought the wood over to our property (in large lengths, as agreed). This was a big job and Robert charged me a fair price for the service. I would highly recommend Robert Tompkins if you need professional tree work done! read more

I had the same problem as Albert and Adrienne ask for full payment before job done (against the law). Contract said clean up all debris to broom swept condition, stumps to surface level,Cut two big pines. Left trees and debris in driveway, stumps 3 feet high. Left never came back. Filled complaint Contractors Licence Board. The Board got him to come back, (put complaint on his licence and fined him). Still left a debris mess, pulled up buried electric wire, Tompkins on tractor tore out internet cable $50. repair, ask for twice, never responded even though he did it himself, damaged sprinklers and line, landscaping gone. I have filled on bond and insurance. Job started December 28,2018. A 7 month nightmare pilled on top of cleanup from Camp Fire and still not over. I would have loved to give Robert 4-5 stars because he cut down some trees/bushes and trimmed others just fine but, unfortunately, he never came back to finish the job he was paid for. Kind of hard to leave a good review for some who has basically stolen money out of my pocket. I will be sending Robert the bill for the guy that did finish up the work (and to repair the cable line his crew cut through). If Robert pays the bills without any problems, then I will update this review to reflect that. Edit to update: Robert finally paid me in August of 2018 but only under the threat and follow through of small claims court. read more

I had a terrible experience with Robert Tompkins. Much similar to a previous review, the job was never finished and he was paid in full. He showed up and did half the work and promised to return and never did. I called several times over the course of four months and he would tell me he was coming to finish the work and never showed up. It was very disappointing because he seems like a nice guy and I used him based on a recommendation. Very flaky, doesn't finish the job, and hard to get a hold of. Wouldn't recommend. read more

We hired Robert Tompkins Tree Service to remove a huge mulberry in our almost inaccessible backyard. For a reasonable amount, they efficiently removed the tree and ground down the stump and above-ground roots, cleaned everything up and also left us some firewood as agreed upon.
