Upon arrival, the water heater had went out and the floor was flooded. We called the office and was asked if we could go somewhere for a hour or so, while she sent maintenance. We agreed even tho we were completely exhausted from the day and had brought food with us to eat that evening. We went to a local restaurant only to return to the same problem. Long story short. The room absolutely stunk like a musky smell. The sheets didn't look like they had even been changed. On top of that we itched all night long in bed. Not sure if that was mosquitoes or what because we couldn't open the back door cause of all the wasp flying around. It was a terrible experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have since learned that this place was sold to New owners and the service has from this place has tremendously dropped. The new owners don't care for their guest like the previous owner. Save your money, you will be glad you did

I was over charged, when i called about the charge i was emailed a receipt and was told there would be a copy on file and when i arrived it would be taking care of. long story short, that never happened! i had to even pay extra! i had no choice but to keep the cabin or loose all of my money. To top that off, there was swarms of bees all over our back deck, when i called the office they offered no help and i was told pest controll had been called and i could purchase some spray myself at the local dollar store! This company is professional from the person that answers the phone to the bus driver. The 55 person bus was brand new. The wedding party loved to travel in such style. The bus driver, TOMMY was so professional and would communicate his whereabouts to me and to the wedding party so we could plan accordingly. Tommy even drove his personal car on the route prior to event to make sure route was perfect....way above and beyond. This helped so much on a stressful day. Thank you Tommy and Royal Charter.

Arrived on a Saturday morning about 10:30am no staff on site, spots very close, the electrical hook ups look like they posed a safety threat to anyone trying to use them and 1 of the 3 spots we were given to choose from had no water connection. To stay at this campground we would have had to find a store and buy at least a 50 feet of water hose and at least 45 feet of sewage hose. Another note when we arrived and there was no staff there my husband called the reservation line after finally figuring out which spots we were told we could choose from he tried to call back and the line was busy for almost a hour We were very disappointed upon a arriving campground was not accurately represented on website!!!

I like to take advantage of these rest areas frequently during my extended travels for a number of reason but the main reason is probably safety - I understand lots of people rush to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible and I'm sure I did the same when I was younger and only looked at these rest areas as places to grab a snack or find relief for themselves or their pets. This rest area is a great example of how Tennessee addresses these roadside amenities I found this place very spacious with lots of parking with very clean facilities so as I approached the exit I engaged the jake brake and throttled down and made my way to the truck parking area. It turned out to be a great choice it wasn't crowded during my visit making entering and exiting easy peasy...

I had planned a side trip out to see some waterfalls and stop at this visitor center and I was not…read moredisappointed! I walked in and immediately saw local artisan items that made me oh and ahhh. AND break open my wallet!!! They had some fantastic pottery- and I snagged a bowl (I wanted 4) and a large soup mug. I also wanted a platter too... lol. They also had stunning wooden serving boards, plenty of t-shirts, hats, magnets, patches, books and even an early Christmas display. John grabbed a map, we all checked out the museum/information room too! We headed next door to the museum and then onto the Cherokee National Forest, Ball River Falls and Baby Falls! We even kept on driving all the way to NC- just because! Enjoyed the Tellico River thoroughly! All thanks to great info from this visitor center!

If the all day trip had been available- we would have done that too! The Hiawassee River loop was fantastic. You arrive in a field and park and wait for the train to arrive, seems kinda odd- but I'm guessing it saves the small town a lot of hassle. John went all in and got the dome car, upper deck seating- which means glass curved windows and glass dome ceiling. Panoramic views. We were car five- back of the bus. Our all in tickets also gave us snacks, snacks and more snacks- and soda, water, coffee and hot chocolate. We boarded and had about 30 minutes till departure and familiarized ourselves with the brochure, got some (you guessed it) snacks and found restrooms. Then the train horns sounded and we were OFF! I was excited to go through the small town of Reliance- where my sister's family has property and I vacationed with her years ago and white water kayaked on the Hiawassee River! We even passed the rafting outpost! We chugged along, the tracks following the river, saw a couple water falls cascading down rock faces, plenty of foliage (although the storm had downed most of the leaves) and just fantastic views. I took entirely too many photos. There was also the great opportunity to peek out the vestibule windows!!! AKA Selfie hanging out the window of a train kinda like a happy puppy! And- there were 2 next to each other- which provided an excellent photo op with John! Grinning like felons! The tour included plenty of local history and interesting railroad facts. Plus all the information on each of the 5 passenger cars. The loop has railroad trestle that we go under and then on and the same railroad track runs parallel to itself for about a 1/4 mile as it goes around the mountain and up. Once at the top, the engine unhooks and goes on a side track to rehook to train car #5 and just like, we were at the front of the train! While the engine is moving- our seats were flipped to face the correct direction. Very cool! Same scenery on the way back, naturally. We even were treated some good ole fashioned pickin~ bluegrass treat, a banjo playing conductor! I simply cannot recommend them enough!!! If you are planning a trip- please include them in your adventures!
