Lots of seating in this restaurant, which perplexes me as to why they stuffed all the patrons on this Tuesday night and one large side room. This made for an incredibly noisy dining experience as one of the tables had approximately 20 guests. We ordered the hummus plate for an appetizer, and it was a very lackluster spread. Stays busy and for good reason! McNellie's is just a solid local option because pretty much anybody can get something. That'll make them happy here. We love burger night on Wednesdays, but if you come on burger night, expect to wait 20-30 minutes. You can leave and come back. We do that. The food here always just taste perfectly made to order and you can tell that they use good ingredients. Even when it slammed, the staff are kind. There's an ongoing mahjong group that meets here on Monday nights through Mahj918 and that's a fun experience if you enjoy playing. This evening, I visited McNellie's South City for dessert. After entering the restaurant, I was promptly seated and offered a glass of water. Since it was a Sunday evening, the restaurant was pretty empty. Despite this, with a soccer game playing on TV, it was a relaxed but lively atmosphere. I had previously tried the carrot cake at the other Tulsa location, so I decided to try the brownie tonight. The brownie was warm and tasted fresh. While it wasn't as good as a homemade brownie, I still enjoyed it. The ice cream was an excellent topping, and the cool temperature of the ice cream was a nice contrast to the warm temperature of the brownie. Between the two dessert choices, I enjoyed the carrot cake a lot more. read more

Part of the McNellie's Group, their South City location (near 71st and Yale) offers an incredible selection of beer both on draft and in cans or bottles. Great weekly beer specials and a special Happy Hour menu every Monday-Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm. They have more than beer with a full service bar as well. Come here for the food too! The menu has rock solid selections and specialty items that'll keep you coming back. My personal favorites are the grilled salmon and the fish 'n chips. There's something for everyone. Burgers are top notch. They've been here for a few years and when patio season rolls around, their patio is a great place to unwind with friends. I had my Dad's 70th birthday party here and was able to reserve the big room for only $50 during the day. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The event manager was great at answering all my questions throughout the planning process. The waitress so so on top of things and did amazing. The food on the catering menu is very different than the regular menu. We had the chicken marsala with rice and vegetables and it was so good. We also got their artichoke spinach dip, which is always on point. I highly recommend having a party or gathering here. read more

If you have not been to McNellies's, I have a recommended as it is a highly rated pub in Tulsa. The main location is downtown and they boast their 300 beers on tap. You can even get a sheet to record all of your beers drink and earn a mug with your name on it to put on the wall This night when I went there, mind you, I've been there more times than I can count, we were with a huge group of 25 people. the business was very accommodating for the size of our group and got our food out really fast. As far as the food I would say it is really good pub food and nine times out of 10. I love my food. One thing I will say is if you want a really good cheap burger, go on Wednesday nights when they have five dollar burger night. My boyfriend this night had the bratwurst platter that was really good and I had the Cuban sandwich. I wasn't a fan of the white hoagie that it was on but otherwise it was really good. read more

We had lunch prior to going so we sat at the bar and didn't look at their food menu. The drink menu was expansive with a huge selection of beers - bottles, cans, and tap! See photos! No issue with food or service. We booked a room for a large graduation party. When we showed up, they said they were closed because they rented the entire restaurant for a private party. Even though they had our reservation the GM could only say sorry there is nothing we can do. Haven't been here since 2016 apparently they changed the fish last week. It was good we got the fish and chips but I substituted for a Greek salad and my husband subbed his for tabouli it was very good but I will say I preferred the fish before because it was a light batter still has good as I remember but now I have lunch and dinner was plenty of food! McNellie's "The Original Charburger" may be an overlooked sleeper. My wife had the burger. I had the Fish and Chips. The fish portion was a slab, bigger than a fisherman's lie. On the side, a combo mixture of crisp fries, or "chippies" if you prefer. Enough for two people. (check the Photos) The tarter sauce was a little funky tasting, but that was OK, because in true Irish fashion I prefer the Malt Vinegar. The burger was excellent. It appeared to be a half pound patty. It was cooked to text book perfection Medium Rare. Grill lines and a crisp char flavor finish. Just as my wife ordered it. Complete with L,T,P,O& M, hold the Mayo. Along with it, more delicious fries than you can eat. Rayleen was our server. She was covering a busy area of the restaurant. So, first of all, let me say I was a bit stumped when we found ourselves in South Tulsa needing a place for dinner, something that wasn't a chain or outrageously expensive. After one misstep, we ended up at McNellie's. I forget about this location. The chicken salad was amazing and as always, the burgers are better than average. Service was great and I found a new "canned" wine I really like. (I'm open for new suggestions for dining in this area though but it's good to know McNellie's is there.) read more

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The service was amazing and the waitress was very kind and attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We got the cheese curds for our appetizer and they were so good, crispy and delicious! I got a cup of potato leek soup which was so comforting and warm. My husband got fish and chips and loved them, it was super flavorful and not dry at all. I got the blackened chicken Mac and cheese. McNellie's is authentically Irish. They have a large selection of beers and all of the popular Irish ones. It has a good Irish feel. Dan and I split an order of fish and chips. The fish was high quality and the breading was light and crispy as opposed to the heavy battered fish. The service was excellent and there's ample parking. They have lunch specials Monday through Friday and also daily specials including $5 burgers on Mondays. They also have pint night. There's plenty of outdoor seating and a large friendly bar area. Fun bar for food and drinks! The large outdoor patio is relaxing too. The bar is a large U-shaped area with tabletops behind it. There are flat screen TVs to watch sports games. I like going for the garlic hummus and soft pita/veggies with salad and soup to go with my wine....for balance. :D It's nice they have some healthier options in addition to the delicious greasy options. The buffalo wrap is delicious and spicy. The fries are seasoned nicely and tasty. Parking is ample and easy to access. The staff has always been super nice and hard working. The only downside is the cheapest red wine is $9/glass. I usually visit another sports bar/restaurant more often because they have house wines for $3-5 a glass. I tip well, but several drinks adds up quickly (especially if you go to watch football games). I would rather spend money on more food and tips than expensive drinks. If they ever change this, it'll be 5 stars for me, and I will be there a lot more often! read more

Ate here a few time the last month, one was burger night. 5.00 burger and fries..I can't really complain except the burgers since last time I went for burger night pre-Covid were pretty small. Dry, not really flavored and just ..a 5.00 burger for sure. It makes me not want to go and pay full price for sure on other nights.... Went again a few days ago and got the Reuben and fries...it was okay...but pretty bland, the fries were not cooked fresh and overall the entire place seemed dirty, not well kept (bathrooms were in very bad shape)...and the entire place had a funky smell...this place needs a remodel and overhaul of the menu ..obviously people still eat here it was packed. On burger night but they are very short staffed so I am going to give that the benefit of the doubt and won't complain on service but it was also very slow....there are some better options close by...Garage Burger Bar, for a burger and also a block away a few other places to get Reuben's...not terrible but not a great meal either time.... read more

Came in late after a long work day with a colleague. We were seated at "Mike's" area. This guys was great from the get go! After some sound advice about the food choices we were stuck on fish n chips and the Reuben. So we decided we would each order the opposite and share. Mike took our order and returned with food in just a few minutes. Didn't really time it but had to be under 10 mins. To our surprise he had the kitchen split our food and have it on separate plates! Rotated frequently. Surprisingly good whisky selection. Including the patio, they have some distinct feels -- bar, loud dining room, small room, and outside. I didn't want to go back. I was unable to get our after work get together moved this time, so this is partly my fault for showing up again. This most recent trip started out promising. I cannot begin to express how happy I was to see the Impossible burger on the menu. I took a picture of it, texted it to my wife (also a vegan) and was so ready to update my McNellie's review. I was elated. Since the menu didn't say it was vegan, I asked the waiter if it was, if it came with mayo, if the default bun was vegan, etc. This is where my experience begins to resemble my previous experiences with McNellie's/Nelson Group service staff. The waiter rolled his eyes (this was seen not just by me but several of my coworkers as well) and said "I don't know. It's bread, it has yeast and flour and all of that so probably not." Rather than offering to check, or speaking at all, he kind of like stared me down. After an uncomfortable amount of time he said "I guess I can go check if you want." I asked him to please so do. When he came back he said "no one knows if the bread is vegan. It has malt and barley and yeast and we don't know if it's vegan." He went on to say "I don't know if that is vegan. I don't even know what vegan is so..." How is that acceptable? Like the rudeness is fine, the vaguely aggressive standoffishness is also fine, it reminds me of being in larger cities. The willful ignorance is the part that I find upsetting. How does one have a job and then refuse to know things about the job one has chosen? How does one not know about the menu or the products one is serving? And the refusing to read a label or ask someone, or bring me the label, I'll read it. I've made bread before, a lot of bread. I know more than a few people who bake bread professionally in Tulsa (and other cities). Bread is usually vegan, except for brioche, challah, croissants, etc. It has (wheat) flour, water, yeast, salt, and some activation sugar to bloom the yeast. Sometimes malt is used but that's almost exclusively for bagels, like authentic NY style bagels, not the chain eatery kind. Barley is used even less often. So I doubt he read the label or asked anyone about the bread. I'm sure someone in the kitchen knows what vegan is and/or what is in the bun/bread. This is an error a lot of Tulsa restaurants make, not labeling menu items vegan or vegetarian, instead relying on their staff (or customers) to know things. Set customers and staff up for success. Give one the information they need to succeed. By not labeling things, one introduces so many more variables and opportunities for things to go wrong, be miscommunicated, etc. So TL;DR, I had another bad experience, was unable to get answers, experienced a vaguely hostile, very negative server who refused to do the basic things expected of a food service industry professional, and was unable to order anything substantial. read more

I had high hopes for the South Tulsa McNellie's location. After a long, stressful day I was looking forward to relaxing and having a nice evening out. I unfortunately was let down in multiple ways tonight :( The seating here could use some improvement. It's very hard and uncomfortable. The chairs and the wooden benches hurt your legs after a while. The food was okay, but after waiting 45 minutes for a table, I was left wondering if it was worth the wait. We got fried pickles and the artichoke dip as our appetizers. The fried pickles were done a tad bit too long and had a burnt flavor, the cheese on top of the artichoke dip was like a disc- it was hard. Burgers were good, I'll give them that. A little more pink than I usually get (2 tables around us had to send theirs back for the same issue) but I didn't mind it too much. It had great flavor. I ordered a glass of wine but it was more dry than I was expecting, so I kindly asked the server if there was anything sweeter I could exchange it for. She was super sweet and understanding, and brought me a different wine. I guess the bartender took this personally, because I saw her staring at me, talking to the hostess and she even pointed at me. So unprofessional and just flat out rude. If I had drank half the glass, or even all of it and asked for a different one, sure. That gives her the right to be frustrated. But I had a sip and realized it wasn't my jam. Not sure what her issue was but this whole experience left me more wired as I walked out, when I was expecting to be able to relax. If you need a place to go with your obnoxious vegan/vegetarian/plant based/pescatarian/other meat restrictive friend, or you are the restrictive friend, this is it! Oh my word... I thought Chicken & The Wolf had the best vegan chicken sandwich in town, then Mcnellie's said, "hold my beer/cider/wine selection" (Don't get me wrong, CATW is still good, especially if you like spicy, but if you want a classic fried chicken veganized)... Their "Hungry Planet Fried Chipotle Chick'n Sandwich" is everything. It's got it all. The tasty faux chicken filet fried to perfection on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, AND plant based mayo and cheese? Are we living in the future?! With a side for $10.99? For the longest time they only had the black bean burger, which is not bad. It's the only plant based item that applies to "Burger Night" (Impossible Burger does not), but they also have Soyrizo Tacos, Beyond Brats, the aforementioned Impossible Burger. The only reason I'm knocking this review from 5 stars to 4 is because online orders for pick-up didn't offer sweet potato fries as a side, and they are the very best side McNellie's has. Their regular fries are just okay. I live by St Francis, not too far at all, but by the time I get back with fries in their take out containers, they've lost all semblance of crispiness they once possessed, and are now flaccid, sad, sticks of potato that once were probably a 6.5 on the fry meter. I share them with my dogs. But the sweet potato fries will hold up, and can be eaten at any temp or time. Thanks, McNellie's! Ehhh, it's not bad. But it's not mind-blowingly amazing either. Servers were friendly. Prices were comparable but on the higher end of affordable. The alcohol selection is huge, which is probably why you're there anyway. The December monthly special, which sounded promising, was basically shells and cheese with some fried shrimp and a drizzle of "Cajun" mayo. Tasted decent. Was not something I would run and tell my friends about. It's a good place to hang out with a group of friends who like slightly different kinds of food and lots of alcohol. read more

What gives this place four stars for me is the outdoor patio. This was a favorite of mine before Covid and became a regular during Covid to be able to sit at a big giant picnic table social distance away from people. Food is good, solid- Burgers and fries, although the fries are always a little bit soggy but I eat them anyway. And the showcase here is of course the massive beer list-they have hundreds.
