I haven't loved a pizza place in New York as much as I now love Paulie Gee's. We had a hook up on the French onion soup (it was cold) during our speedy dinner but they eventually brought out a fresh one and comped us for their error. The Ricotta Di Vegan was blissful. The make of the crust sticks out as a perfect compliment to the overall flavor of the dish. My boyfriend thought it was actually a full on regular pizza until I informed him that it was vegan. Impressive to say the at least. Critique wise - I really wish that they had a better set of alcoholic cocktail drinks but I'm happy to toss up some suggestions if a bartender is ready and willing. And the cut of the lettuce on the escarole salad is challenge to enjoy when it comes to using a fork so definitely add a little patience to your palate too. I hope to return soon for a smoother sailing experience but I'll definitely be back. read more

I've gotten pizza from the slice shop a couple times but this was my first time actually dining in a Paula Gee's and I definitely was not disappointed. I was really impressed by the wide expanse of options that they offered and after a lot of consideration we decided to order the hellboy and the ricky ricotta partially based on the raving reviews on yelp and I thought both pies were solid. The hellboy was definitely my favorite, as the hot honey really complemented the rest of the pie. You can also ask for a bottle of hot oil or some parmesan with your pies which we didn't realize until after we ate. My only complaint is that it was pretty packed when I arrived and the food took close to 45 minutes to arrive after we ordered it. Otherwise, I had a great dining experience and would definitely come back! read more

Two stars for the effort. Minus three for not having it together and a overhyped, personal sized pie. I've heard great things about this place and had high expectations. Sadly, I was let down. The major issue I had is with the takeout order/process. They use what seemed to be a pretty efficient ordering process with text updates. However, it stated my order would be ready after 8:15. On my way to be there at 8:15 I get an alert (before 8:00) that the order is ready. When I arrived I find the pizza had been sitting outside for awhile. Long story short...I had a cold pizza. While I'm here let me add the fact that their pizzas are extremely small. Be sure to order a couple if you decide to go this route. As stated the 2 stars is for the effort. We came here for the first time on an early Saturday evening and we got seated right away since all our party was there. The restaurant does get crowded. The atmosphere is dark and rustic and we were seated in a communal table. We noticed that Pauli G himself was making rounds and he stopped to talk to the folks on the left side of the table and right side of the table but ignored us. Never came to us and asked how things were. I found that to be very rude. We had ordered a bunch of pizza pies but they were all just ok. The only good one was the margarita one. The others were too lemony in flavor. I had also ordered a French onion soup which never came and when I told the waitress she was really sorry about it and offered it complimentary instead. When it did arrive, I did not like it at all. Overall, it was just an okay experience for us. Yikes. One of my coworkers swears by this place, and I've been here a few times and have enjoyed their pizza. I don't think I'll be coming by anymore though. A friend and I showed up around 5:30PM on a Saturday, and we waited about 45 minutes, which is expected and fine, just walked around the neighborhood a bit. Then, we're asked for vaccination and ID, then shown to a table where there's a QR code. A lot of the menu items online don't have descriptions and we need to click on each one to see what's on it, so I asked for a paper menu which apparently didn't have the secret pizzas. That's fine though, Paulie Gee who came by said they keep adding pizzas (which I guess is one of the benefits of having an online ordering menu). Since he came by when we were still trying to decide, we asked for some suggestions. We both took one of his suggestions, I got the Mo Cheeks and my friend the Cherry Jones, both unique combinations of toppings. So then we order online, and we have to pay and tip when ordering. Tipping before we get service? Odd. We then proceed to wait...and wait...and wait, and we run out of water but it's difficult to flag down a server to get more of that. After waiting for at least half an hour to get two pizzas, the pizzas finally get to our table. But, the pizza wasn't even hot, and the middle was soggy! What?! Mine was also burnt on the edges and the bottom, it was just really bad. I did not enjoy it at all. The toppings were alright, I didn't like mine in particular and the guanciale was really fatty and not that flavorful. My friend's was good though, the combination of flavors was awesome, and I thought the cherry might be odd but it wasn't! It was so disappointing though, after having waited that long to get burnt pizza. Sorry Paulie Gee's, this is going to be my last visit! My friend is leaving the country so she insisted we go back to one of her most favorite pizza places in all of NYC one last time. Paulie Gee's certainly didn't disappoint! There wasn't much else in the area besides other restaurants but do be warned that patrons are super committed so you should show up a little bit before 5 (opening on Sat) if you don't want to wait. All of the pies are about $16-$20 each and can easily be shared between 1-6 people. One person could probably finish one (sliced into 6) but for us two hungry gals, we opted to split two but still only finished 1.5 pies. We ordered the porkie white pie (def my fav) and Monte cristo. I really liked the meat and the basil that was topped on the porkie white so I would definitely recommend everyone order it!! My second time back into this place. This place is hyped up and not cheap, but for good reason! The pizzas here are uniquely delicious. They're about 12 inches, so personal sized. We got here 5 minutes after they opened so food came quick! We ordered the brisket five-o and hellboy. The brisket five-o is how it sounds with brisket, pineapple and Gouda. I know people bash pineapple on pizza, but paulie has managed to make a perfect combination where the pineapple compliments the brisket. The Gouda just nails it home for the perfect taste and texture. I happily devoured most of this. The hellboy is basically a pepperoni pizza with hot honey, which added a little kick to it. Flavor was great, the hot honey definitely kicks the flavor up a few notches. I can see why this is their bestseller. Since only two of us were here, we only got to try two. If you do come, come with a large group so you can try a majority of what they offer. Definitely worth the adventure to get here if you like good pizza. read more

I am going to start of with, I normally do not provide any negative reviews unless I absolutely have too. This restaurant takes the cake as the most horrible dining experience any native New Yorker could ever face. Let me start in the very beginning. My friend left her name and number to the hostess to be called into the restaurant once a table was available. Being a party of seven, we completely understood a wait time for such a large party. Fast forward to an hour and forty minutes and multiple parties have been seated before us. No phone call, no text received. My friend had to go in and ask about our spot. Hostess stated she had stepped out to call our name multiple times. This was not true. After being seated, we had been given water and asked by the owner if we were ok. Obviously we said we were ok since it was just the beginning of our meal. But as time passes, our table was unattended, ignored, and not served. We finished our waters and not once a server had come and checked how we were doing. Drinks came and they were predominately just ice. Thirty minutes into the service, a party was seated next to us. They wanted to order but one individual seemed to be too drunk and the establishment was responsible enough to refuse to serve him drinks. This made that table say some nasty words towards the server which we overheard. This is when the real issue begins. This table had gotten their food in less than 20 minutes. Our large table had to wait for an hour and more to get our food while the rest of the establishment was prioritized. The food did come but with a cost. It was dry, flavorless, and burnt. We did not say anything until the very end because this was the last straw. In the end, the manager did not even approach us to see the ending of our meal to get feedback. The only individual that made our night bearable was our server Michael. He was the only person kind enough to listen and assist us that evening. With his kindness, we hope that he becomes the manager to maybe/finally treat every customer the rightful way. Because of the QR code, we had to pay and tip for a meal that we were dissatisfied with. There is no option to wait to pay. Which meant we were trapped paying no matter what. We did not understand why we were not given the expected service we hoped for in a place we were so excited to try. We do not know if it was the way we looked or the way we stood out for not looking like we belonged in Brooklyn. But I guess we will never know. In the end, if you have the same experience please go around the corner to Franklin's pizza and get a real NYC slice. The food is better and the manager is nicer. Also, to the manager who commented on my other friends post; I am not a liar liar pants on fire. I came for the vegan pizza; stayed for the vibes, beers and dessert. They.have.an.entirely.separate.vegan.pizza.menu!!!! I strongly recommend the two vegan pizzas on their menu which contain NUMU, a brand of vegan cheese which is apparently not available for retail purchase. (Haven't yet tried the several other vegan pizzas but they look good!!) Oh my oh my is NUMU good! The NUMU brand cheese is used on the Vegan Regina and Jackie Green pizzas. It has a very creamy consistency and melts in the same manner as cow cheese. These particular pizzas would no doubt be wonderful even without NUMU, as all of the ingredients are very fresh and tasty. They also have a bar and serve beer, wine, & cocktails. Which is good as you will most likely wait if you do not have a reservation. The vibe is lively (not quiet) and welcoming. I like the decor; they seem to have preserved key interior details such as a charming tin ceiling. The monster of a pizza oven can be glimpsed towards the back of the restaurant. I can't comment on the non-vegan pizzas but these people are SERIOUS about pizza, and I cannot imagine anything less than delicious coming out of this oven. I'm not sure why, but they seem so have switched up the vegan cheesecake. My first time at Paulie Gee's we had an amazing piece of vegan New York style cheesecake. It was phenomenal. But the 2nd time we ordered vegan cheesecake it wasn't New York style, and wasn't that good in my opinion. My dinner companion said he liked it though. Great NYC pizza joint! Pizza enthusiasts speak of this place amongst the best in New York and it doesn't disappoint. The wait list for two was about 1.5 hour on a Friday around dinner time, but we were able to snag two seats at the bar almost immediately. Great service and food but I took one star away for the drink. I ordered the Manhattan which was served on the rocks and strong but lacking in balance and a bit "watery". We shared the "Ricky Ricotta" composed of Italian tomatoes, sweet Italian (VEGAN) fennel sausage, Pecorino Romano, fresh ricotta dollops, baby arugula, spicy honey (added), and extra virgin olive oil. The crust is divine- chewy, charred, and flavorful with just the right amount crunch. The vegan fennel sausage is killer (light and delicious, the texture and flavor are perfect). I didn't care too much for the spicy honey and wouldn't choose to add it again. Overall a great NYC pizza establishment with awesome service, I can't wait to return! read more

One of my favorite pizza places in the city. When I take out-of-towners on a pizza tour of Brooklyn, Paulie Gee is one spot on the tour. Solid pie - perfect crust, slight burnt on the bottom but still soft and fluffy on the inside. The ingredients taste fresh and of the highest quality. Favorites are the Hellboy (think Bee Sting at Roberta's) and the Regina (margherita). The place is perfect for your vegan friends too (rare for pizza joints). Love the space - dimly lit, intimate, rustic/wood grain. Their magic pizza oven is out in plain view and you can see them assembling the pizzas. Service is very friendly and prompt. Waits can get long on the weekends, but I've had good luck on weekdays with minimal to no wait at all. Also, pizzas come out fast, so turnover is pretty constant. Only downside is that I live so far from Greenpoint, but that's no fault of theirs :) Def worth a stop for any pizza afficionados out there. read more

I was looking forward to coming to Paulie Gees for quite some time as I've heard their pizza rivals the best. The first time I tried to come, there was over a 2 hour wait at around 6 on a Saturday. They don't take reservations at all and unfortunately I couldn't wait around so I came back at opening time on a weekday and walked right in. Ambiance is cool, darkly lit, with a big pizza oven visible in the back. We shared three pizzas and a salad for three people which was definitely overkill but we wanted to try a few things! The pizza was super creative with toppings and a tasty tangy sauce, but I found the pizza to be a bit heavy and really rather difficult to eat. (I actually think their slice shop across the street is quite a bit better but more basic for sure). It wasn't my favorite bk pizza and I think I wouldn't rush back but if in the area again, I'd give it another try! read more

If you come here try and get here right when it opens! It gets packed pretty quickly and they do not take reservations. We ordered two vegan pizzas the jack green and Ricotta. Both were good and i personally preferred the ricotta pizza. Make sure to ask for the chili oil! It adds a good spice to the pizza. The service was ...meh. Pauli's Gee's is definitely worth a visit in Green Point. Get here at 5pm when this is opening because otherwise you will need to wait or get reservations. The hellboy lives up to its name - the most popular item. It has delicious spicy pepperonis slathered in a hot honey. For some reason, this just really works. Honey on pizza is a trend that is here today. The sweet spicy savoriness is a great combo. Each pie is very different. The Ricky Ricotta was charming in its own way. The fennel sausage had a lot of flavor that was moderated by the refreshing arugula. Ricotta was well-balanced, not overwhelming but it could have used a little more. Wonderful flavors in the pie. The Hometown Brisket was decent. Unfortunately the brisket itself was underwhelming but the sauces on this pizza and sweet red onions added a lot of flavor depth. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended because of their pizzas. In particular the 'Hellboy'. So we figured we would drive out to Greenpoint, Brooklyn to sample them ourselves. The Brisket five-0 pizza came with bbq sauce on it and it was a little too sweet for my liking. But the Hellboy was on fire! They put more pepperoni than you can eat on it and then they season it with their 'hot honey'. It gives the pie some heat but then there is this sweet undertone that finishes off every bite. It's simply the best pizza I've had in New York (to date). The ambiance of Paulie Gee's is not that of a typical pizzeria. It's more like an artisanal hipster whiskey speakeasy. But it works. It's not just the pizza but the atmosphere that makes Paulie Gee's unique. As you walk in through the horse barn doors into this dimly lit almost speakeasy-like space, you wonder what you're in for. The place is almost always packed and the hostess told us it would be a 35-40 minute wait, but she's just way conservative in her estimate so you feel that you got off easy. After 20 minutes, we were seated by the bar and the bartender took care of us. Though not a full bar, they offer some nice draft beers and wines. Since touring the brewery, if we see Ommegang, we'll usually order it. Also, if you've got soup on the menu, chances are I'm going to try it. Or in this case, my wife ordered it before I could. The Pumpkin Bisque we started with was a nice combination of sweet, creamy and nutty with chopped pecans floating in it. But those tasty, doughy disks are what we came in from the cold for. Many of the tongue-in-cheek named pies have mixed sweet and savory elements to them, like maple syrup drizzle, pickled pineapples or hot honey. Along those lines we had the Hometown Brisket, which had a great BBQ flavor highlighted by pickled onions and a BBQ sauce drizzle. We also had Ricotta Be Kiddin' Me, which was nice and meaty with Canadian bacon and Italian sausage peaked with dollops of fresh ricotta when it came out of the hotter-than-hell oven. The Spectacle Too was our safety if we didn't like the other 2. All had great charred crusts with great flavor. Next time, we'll have to venture out to the crazier flavors like the Hellboy. The namesake owner stopped by at every table to greet his guests and to make sure they were taken care of. And he was wearing a hat from Roberta's Pizza, which was a hoot and a half! read more

I've had the hell boy, the neffy pork pie, and hometown bbq, and they are all great. I think pork pie might be the most unique. I want to try the classic margharita to compare to other pizza joints, but i'm always enticed by their other creations. Both times I've been here, I have been able to get seated right away. The best Artisan Pizza in NYC! Hands down our favorite. Perfect crust on each pie. Just the right amount of crunch with a doughy feeling. The Hellboy is our favorite. We get at least one every time. Make sure you try out some orders from the online menu as well. The Cherry Jones is another favorite. It's a dimly lit place. I wish it wasn't so dim. You'll have to be comfortable with sharing tables with other people. It's just the NYC feel when you have so many people coming. It's very busy. We had an extremely bad experience today. James, one of the employees in the kitchen area, very slyly gave one of our pizzas to his friend sitting at the table right next to ours, so that the waitress who took our order was unaware, and then lied to her that we had already had our pizzas. She knew what was going on and called him out for it while being extremely embarrassed, but the guy went on arguing with her and pointing towards us. It was extremely rude, and honestly felt very racist. All of this just to give his friend a couple of free pizzas. If he wanted free pizzas so badly for them, he could've just asked us. It's pretty good. We got the salad with candied pecans and pear, kale pesto pizza and the vegan pizza with grilled onions. I really like the salad. The pizza is good, but not my favorite. I think the crust was a little more chewier than I prefer. They have lots of toppings to choose from though! So would be down to try some others. On a side note, there's no waiter/waitress. We were here to celebrate a small wedding ceremony that had happened prior. It was mildly rowdy, DELICIOUS pizza, and the manager of the night after hearing we were also a wedding party (there were 2 other wedding parties when we were there!) offered the bride/groom a special treat as well wishes. We did have to wait a little bit to sit as a party of 10 (~45 minutes, around 7 pm on a Saturday), but it was sunset and we took a nice walk to the river side to watch sunset. Considering the wait and the trip to get here, I would consider other options. We got the highly recommended Hellboy (very rich, but I'm not sure I loved the special hot honey sauce that comes with it) and the pizza with prosciutto di Parma (nothing memorable... the prosciutto tasted old). I found this place on Yelp without any knowledge of this area and was so pleased. Pauline Gee himself came out and checked on us. The menu truly has something for everyone. We had the Arugula Shmoogula and the Winter Shade of Kale pizzas. Both INCREDIBLE. The ambiance was great too, you can see where they wood fire the pizza and they had the doors open for the nice weather. The staff was masked and there were partitions between each set of tables-I felt very safe. If you're in Greenpoint, add this to your list. I will be back many more times in the future! I was really split on 4 or 5 for this -- I think everybody at our table would have gone 4.5, if that was a thing. We got the Hellboy, the Hometown Brisket, the Regina, and the King Harry Classic. The Hellboy was the unanimous favorite, by a wide margin -- I actually thought it compared favorably to the Bee Sting at Roberta's, although not as good as the Colony at Emily. The others were very good, but I didn't feel like they were truly elite. Some of the plainer margheritas and/or tomato pies I've had recently were clearly better, for me -- eg Jon & Vinny's, Vetri, etc. Next time around, I'd definitely get the Hellboy again, and probably try some more interesting ones, rather than the Regina and King Harry. read more

My friend had been telling me about this place for YEARS so I had to stop by when I was in Brooklyn again to get my NY vegan pizza fix! I ended up at the slice shop first and thought it was decent - I tried all four of their vegan options. Pretty standard vegan pizza, but love that they even have vegan options and are a good quick option. Then, while AT the slice shop, I saw that the real restaurant was a couple blocks away so I went right after. Soooo glad I did because I LOVED the vegan pizza there (aka here, Paulie Gee's) I got the In Ricotta Da Vegan. The dollops of cashew ricotta were AMAZING and I was a very happy camper. They currently have limited indoor seating, so my friend and I sat at in a corner and were adequately distanced from the next table. read more
