    Crispy Eggplant
    Vishnu G.

The crispy eggplant sandwich was really impressive. There was great crunch on the eggplant and a nice chew to the bread. I got a bit of smoke from the oven on the bread, and from the other fillings a little creaminess, sweetness, and freshness. I can't say I've had anything like it before. I also tried the broccolini e cheddar pizza. It's good, but doesn't reach the same heights as the sandwich - the flavor on the crust is a bit minimally developed, and this particular pie relies on sundried tomatoes in place of a red sauce. Which was quirky and unique, so I appreciate the chance to try something different. My friends also tried the mais e 'nduja pizza, and also thought that the sandwich outshone it. The whole bill came to around $75 for four people, which is quite reasonable.

Fornino is my go-to cozy sit-down pizza restaurant in Greenpoint. But they have take-out, delivery, and lunch deals too. They are rolling out a special Monday tasting menu too. It's personally one of my favorite pizza spots in the area with an extensive variety of flavors and toppings that you won't get tired of, and they are constantly coming out with new specials. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven with an open kitchen, so you can see the chefs preparing the pizzas right in front of you. The service is warm and welcoming too!

Greenpoint long time staple offering fresh and incredible wood-fired pizza along with great hospitality. Vibe is super chill and laidback just exactly what one would expect from this location. Backyard dining area is a must when weather permits. Both menu and drink selection being so abundant is truly the key for return visits.

Got a chill and quiet lunch in Fornino out of exception. Food is good value and excellent hospitality. Can't wait to be back for dinner. Have 2 different pizzas and both of them are unique in its own way. The pear with prosciutto, mint leaves and goat cheese has all the balance flavors profile in a bite. It's hard to go wrong with the mushrooms except it has multiple types of mushrooms. Did I mention the pizza dough is sourdough dough and baked in an open fire oven.

Came here for the lunch special today. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with Calabrian chilis, avocado, romaine and balsamic on freshly made bread. This sandwich was substantial and delicious and came with Parmesan smashed potatoes. Server and chef here were super nice and did a great service. Will definitely come back.

January 2025 Monday tasting menu sold out!

Introducing Mondays with Michael (and his wood burning oven) - a unique 5-course tasting menu, available on the 2nd Monday of every month. (Reservations required.) Michael Ayoub (Chef & Owner) is a Brooklyn native and chef for over 45 years. He's going back to his roots and creating new dishes in the kitchen for this monthly series. I came here for the January 2025 Monday event with a large group. Saw afterwards on social media that it was sold out! Thank you to my friends who made the reservation in time! As we walked past the front pizza counter/oven to get to our seats, Michael was there standing in front of the oven helping get out pizza orders. It smelled amazingly delicious and the pizzas looked great. I couldn't wait to eat! The Monday tasting menu comes with an optional wine pairing. Most of our table purchased the wine pairing. I shared a single bottle of wine with others instead. We did get a bonus taste of the dessert wine pairing at the end, which was super generous of them to keep the rest of us from having FOMO! Note for those who need it that there are gluten free options on the regular menu! We were asked about dietary restrictions before we were served, but we all said we were good with the tasting menu as-is. There is a note on the menu "While the crust and ingredients are all gluten-free, it is baked int eh same oven as our traditional pizza. It is not to be considered certified gluten-free." We were also given a fig bacon gorgonzola amuse bouche before the courses came out. What a delicious bite of food! Our tasting menu: mushrooms, cauliflower and sunchoke black & white pizza "11 layer" pasta chicken and polenta slightly burnt alaska I was satisfied/satiated before the dessert course, and tried to leave some room but the "slightly burnt alaska" was massive, even to share! The more you got into the layers, the more yummy surprises you found inside, down to the ice cream center. Great staff, food and location. I would definitely come back for another tasting night, or simply for pizza and wine.

Been coming here for two years. Always had a okay experience and no issues. I was stereotyped once when I first came in and was asked if I was gonna tip my first visit (first time... so no data to run on) but the food was good and I thought next time I'd get a different server and did for the tens of times I came after. Recently I went in on the weekend during dinner hours. I have texture issues so I always modify a sandwich they serve. I HATE BURRATA. Ordered this exact sandwich at least 12 times... Mind you- two days ago I called it in with no problems and picked it up and have MULTIPLE times. But tonight was date night. The First Lady had an attitude and I asked for another person bc I did not want to match her energy. So apparently now you can't substitute anything. Again, texture person here and won't go into any medical history on here. I recommended this place to everyone I know including on my social media channels so I have zero clue why the sudden change... unless there's a more personal reason. The lady who told me delivered the news nicely but considering the timing of things I feel like it was a new convo after I ordered (to-go) thursday with zero problem and she asked me why I do the subs. She was a new hire back in October. So I can't gauge authenticity bc the change came 36 hours after I ordered last. But I suspect she spoke to management about my order. Look- food is good. Sauce ON pizzza is fine- sauce if you ask for it on the side is watery. But if you like to taste the sauce you need extra for pizzas. Sandwiches need more potatoes (4 ain't cutting it). Bathrooms could be cleaner. And overall the staff could be nicer. I have consistently noticed others being treated better when I dine in. And it's not a tipping issue. As somebody who LOVED coming here for the sandwich w my subs I'm annoyed bc she flat out said NO MODIFICATIONS. Never heard of that. People have allergies and other issues. If it's an equally priced substitution I don't know what the problem is. NO SUBSTITUTIONS here! Idk if it was actually the owner saying that but they made it seem that way. If people are paying why can't they get what they want?

Great little Italian restaurant with fantastic pizzas, fresh from the wood fired oven. The dough is chewy and I even love their crusts. And their salads are better than SweetGreen. Came on a Sunday early evening so it wasn't crowded and the service was pretty fast. Reasonably priced too!

I've been here a few times for lunch pre pandemic and really enjoy their pizzas. I believe they are now only open in the evenings (maybe lunch at weekends?) so on the rare occasion that we found ourselves in Greenpoint in the evening it was an easy pick for us for a quick dinner. The menu has a selection of appetizers, salads and pizzas ranging from very basic to original creations. They also do calzones and have gluten free and vegan options. The room is very pleasant, service is attentive, prices are reasonable, pies are tasty. It's a good solid option if you're in the area and fancy a casual dinner. It's also a good place for larger parties and family groups.

I was looking for a place to have lunch with my parents and Paulie Gee's wasn't open, so we tried here. I'm never going to Paulie Gee's again. I ordered the mushroom pizza, and they were happy to leave out the pungent pecorino cheese. My foodie wife enjoyed her eggplant parm, and my parents loved their margheritas. The atmosphere is charming with art deco embossed panels on the high ceiling and beautiful light fixtures made by the owner. The exposed brick gives it an early 20th century industrial feel. Our server was happy to take a picture for my family, but they went above and beyond when I had to take my crying baby out for a walk. When I returned, they had turned the music down so she could sleep. I know Paulie Gee's is a bit of an institution, but I like the pizza, ambience, and price better here. I would highly recommend it if you like wood fired pizza.

    Pera E Coppa Large ($33.00)

We came to Fornino to get pizza for our movie night at Skyline Drive-In for Barbie. Pies are handcrafted and wood fired here and the wait time didn't take long. We ordered 4 large pies for $142.63 * Pera E Coppa ($33.00) * Lombardi ($33.00) * Funghi Misti ($31.00) * Tre-Carni ($34.00) Pera E Coppa and Funghi Misti were our absolute favorite. The pear and mixes of cheese with the spicy honey in the Pera E Coppa was full of flavor, it was savory, complex, spicy, and a little sweet. While Funghi Misti was an umami bomb of flavors, if you love mushrooms you will devour this pizza. I loved the combination of arugula and lemon in Lombardi with the salty prosciutto. Tre-carni is a pretty standard meat pie -- it just didn't stand out compared to the others. Next time I come here, I would love to try out more of their third-generation combinations.

This pizzeria has been on my list for quite some time, and seeing that they have favorable weekend hours, I decided to give it a try, in addition to an unnamed Yelper who coerced me to come out to Greenpoint and give it a go. The pizzeria is a short walk from the Greenpoint Ave. stop on the G train, which means either unless you live in Greenpoint or Bed-Stuy, you are going to have to switch trains. Me coming from Coney Island, this means I have switch trains with the F train. So it will take a bit of a trek to get going here. I got there just as the restaurant opened, at 12 noon, and while nobody was there, I can forgive that as the restaurant was just opening. The menu has an eclectic number of pies, in addition to their calzones. Asking what is popular, I went with the Al Roker pizza, as my server overwhelmingly suggested it. I also had to go with the larger pie. Go big or go home baby! The pie arrives about 15-20 minutes later (it felt like an eternity, because I was starving), and it is a sharp looking pie. Smoldering out of the oven, with a dense amount of toppings (it comes with hot soppersata, sweet peppers, caramelized onions (which I did not get), tomato sauce, and mozzarella). First off, the crust is amazing. That pillowy, pita bread-like texture, is one of my favorites (this is after all a wood-fired pizza), and it tastes perfect. After that, things get dicey. The soppresata is a bit on the porky side, and aggressively salty, the peppers trying to downplay it somewhat, but the aggressiveness of the meat overtakes the entire pie. Toppings were also sliding off slices, and I deduct points for that. Yes, they stay on as it cools, but it should stay on throughout. It is overall a tasty pie, but I needed several water glasses to get me through this. It was a little disappointing. To prove my server wrong, who initially ordered me the smaller personal pan, I finished the whole thing, and much to my surprise, I did not feel as bad when I finished it as to what I thought I thought was coming. This is likely due to the digestible crust, which allowed things to move smoothly, rather than rush out like Penn Station during rush hour. I would come back and try another pie, but would not rush back immediately, given what I had to do to come here and the price of the pies.

This was high up on my search, and with reviews like what they have, we decided to give them a shot. Its very easy to get to with a decent amount of street parking. Seems a bit out of place next to a deli on a residential block. You can kind of miss it if youre not paying attention. We were a party of 6 and had a 5 PM reservation. You have to pass through this dark curtain and go to the middle of the bar where the host will greet you and bring you to your seats. We were seated promptly with no wait. The restaurant is VERY small. So much so that at our table, all I had to do was reach my hand out and I would have been touching the kitchen counter. It does get a little crammed/crowded, but not in an annoying or unbearable kind of way. The vibe is actually really cozy and rustic. Very dim lighting so either whip out the flashlight on your phone or hold up one of the real candles they have on the table to read the menu. The food menu is straightforward and simple. They have an extensive wine list. I love how on the food menu, next to each dish, they tell you the region of Italy that dish gets its roots from. They have lovely dinnerware here. They brought out a foccacia bread for the table with a tomato dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious foccacia. The sauce was a tad too salty for me. I started off with the mocktail Luisa. It was passion fruit, lemon, agave, ginger beer, and mint. It was $10 and very fresh and mouthwatering! For my appetizer I had the Calamari alla griglia. Grilled calamari with guacamole and carasau bread. I've never had grilled calamari before. Only either marinara or fried. I also thought pairing it with guacamole was an interesting twist. I was so pleasantly surprised by this dish. The calamari were perfectly fork tender grilled. The guacamole went well with it. The carasau bread was more like a tortilla chip. They give you a decent amount for $24.95. That app slid down my throat effortlessly! For my entree I had the Maccheroncini alla Norma. Maccheroni with eggplant in tomato sauce with ricotta cheese. The pasta was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce reminded me so much of my Calabrian grandmother's. The ricotta made it rich and creamy. Filling as well. So much so that, even though it wasn't a huge portion, I had to take home half of it because I was verging on being stuffed! My mother had the Cotoletta alla milanese. Keep in mind that if you get this chicken cutlet dish that it serves about four people, even though its for 1! HUGE portion. About 4 enormous cutlets that gave my mom 3 days of leftovers! All of the desserts were $12.95. A nice selection to choose from, but I had the classic Tiramisu. They make it here tableside. He made it with such care. Loved watching him put it all together. Let me tell you, that was the BEST Tiramisu that I've EVER had! Wow, just amazing. Very balanced, quality ingredients. The marscapone was so decadent, creamy and fresh. I could have easily taken down 2 of them! I tried some of my mother's chocolate cake. Delicious and decadent. Service throughout our dinner was above and beyond. Attentive, kind, concise and our waiter was such a cutie! Smooth sailing throughout the entire meal. We barely had to wait for anything. Amazing restaurant and staff. Prices are just fine and the quality goes way beyond. Can't wait to come back. Highly impressed and recommend!

This place does get busy so recommend making reservations if you can. They have a pretty nice wine list to choose from along with different cocktail options. From the start, the food was delicious starting with the house bread which was warm and soft but still felt light. For dinner, I ordered the special for the night which was cacio pepe ravioli, while my husband got the tagliatelle verdi con ragu. Both of our pasta dishes felt extremely fresh. The ravioli was unlike anything Ive had before, with flavorful cacio pepe filling and a butter sauce with pancetta complementing the flavor. The tagliatelle was also delicious in a more ragu centric way, still offering a good balance of flavor. Both dishes were pretty filling and so neither of us could finish it. We ended the night with cannolis, which was a pleasant surprise to find 3 came in 1 order. One side is pistachio while the other had a coco dusting. These were again delicious but pretty filling and sweet so we could only eat one. The staff here was also very friendly and service was quick with food coming out much faster than I expected. Overall I would come back and try even more on their menu.

We got the lobster with white asparagus with eggs to share. Yum. It really did not need the eggs. The hollondaise was delicious. We ordered. Oxtail rags, carbonara, and the fish pasta -Sardinian nod. All were excellent. The carbonara could have used a bit of pepper and a bit more pecorino. Guanciale? Or bacon? Also had the scallops which we loved. I ordered a Bellini but it was not a Bellini. No peach. Just a cherry - odd. The Lemon scone was the best we have had - served with cream and lemon curd. Amazing The Carmel custard dessert - was rich but a bit one note. It did come with a crunchy buttery cookie. The ice creams were homemade. The restaurants is lovely. Food wonderful. Service friendly and quick. But it is so loud you are literally yelling at your companions. Maybe they could turn down the music ? Regardless. We love this place!

We had the best night at Michael's!…read more I knew Michaels was an iconic restaurant deep in Brooklyn. I've seen their sauce sold in stores before, and we finally made the trip out for dinner. We went around Christmas and it was decorated inside. The restaurant was packed. Every single table was full. Everyone was having the best time. Even the bar was totally full of people ordering drinks before they were seated. The food is classic, New York Italian. Everything is a very well done version. The veal Parm was one of the best I've ever had. The caramel cake at the end was truly beyond. I can't recommend this experience enough. We ate for three hours had amazing cocktails, great bottles of wine and a really delicious meal. Looking around, you could tell the diners were locals enjoying a beloved neighborhood restaurant. It's such a special restaurant that serves real New Yorkers.

The interior looks like a classic Italian restaurant and service is very formal. It was quite busy for a weekday night. There's valet parking so you don't have to stress about finding street parking nearby. We ordered fried calamari, baked clams, baked vodka penne, and the Fisherman's Platter. We were served bread and some antipasto to start. The calamari was a classic and I loved the sauce -- it had a good spicy kick to it. The baked clams were okay. The Fisherman's Platter is a must and good value with its generous portion of seafood. It can definitely be shared amongst two people. The baked vodka penne was also good but portion was on the smaller side. I would say Michael's is a must try at least once.

It was our first time trying the lobster dish - delicious and fresh. The baked dish tasted too burnt.

Service was attentive and friendly, and I did not feel rushed at any point. I wasn't too hungry so I shared their popular focaccia bread with green butter and sheep's milk agnolotti. Focaccia 5/5: best focaccia I ever had, it came hot and fresh out of the oven. Crispy on the outside but so soft inside, topped with a delicious parm. The green herb butter was so smooth. I loved this dish and would come back just for it Sheep's milk 4/5: they're like ravioli stuffed with smooth, melt in your mouth cheese... the sauce was light and sweet from the honey. It was so unique and delicious (technically a 5/5 but I personally am not a fan of sweet pasta and would likely try something else next time) I hope to come back another time for that bread and to try one of their other pastas

The service was great, and our server gave us great recommendations. Inside has lots of seating and it is moody, more of a date-night vibe. We ordered three pastas and two appetizers. All were overall great! They are known for their focaccia, and it was good! Definitely one of the focaccia I have had, most end up being too oily but this was perfect. We also got the mussels, and they were good as well, the butter sauce it is dosed in is not too heavy and pairs well with the bread. The Mafaldini was the biggest portion size, and it was also good, but we preferred the other pastas more. The best pasta was definitely the agnolotti!! Though the portion size was smaller, every bite was so delicious. Overall we had a great time here!

Busy Sunday and they made room for us. Classic old style restaurant. Everything we ordered was goodread more

Cuisine: 7 Service: 8…read moreDecor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 7 I wonder how many 100 year old restaurants are still left in NYC. It can't be easy to stay true to who you are in this ever changing world. With today's social media heavy and influencer dominated marketing, this restaurant sits on a quiet street in Brooklyn just going about its business. Known as an Italian red sauce shop that served all walks of life, including possibly the mafia, this place has seen it all. If only the walls can talk, I could imagine all the stories it holds. Our friendly waiter has been there for 20+ years and shared some of his experiences and memories. It was a nice bonus to our meal for four. For appetizers, we had some Clams Oreganata (8/10), Fried Calamari (8/10), and Roasted Peppers w/ Anchovies (8/10). I would say that these three starters were the highlights of the meal. The entrees were not bad, just not as outstanding as their appetizer counterparts. My favorite of the bunch was the Eggplant Parmigiana (8/10), which was delicious and well made. The other three items, Pork Chop alla Bamonte's (6/10), Ravioli w/ Meat Sauce (7/10), and Rigatoni w/ Sausage & Broccoli Rabe (7/10), were all decent, but nothing special. By the end of the meal, four of us all agreed that it was a fun experience. With all the great options for Italian cuisine in NYC, it's not somewhere that stands out enough for regular visits. However, I would stop by if I was in the neighborhood.
