From the moment you walk in, the warm lighting and calm, elegant setting create a true retreat feeling--relaxing, intimate, and perfectly set up for an unforgettable dinner. We started with the baked brie, and it was the perfect opener. Warm, creamy, and beautifully rich, it had that comforting, indulgent feel without being too heavy. It was the kind of appetizer that makes you pause after the first bite and think, "Okay, this is going to be special." We also shared a salad that was far better than any "starter salad" has a right to be. The greens were crisp and fresh, but the real surprise was the croutons--light, buttery, and so tender they practically melted in your mouth. Every bite felt balanced, simple in the best way, and clearly made with care. For the main course, we ordered the chicken under brick and the scallops risotto, and both were genuinely memorable. The chicken under brick had a beautifully crisp exterior, with juicy, tender meat underneath--full of flavor and cooked exactly right. The scallops were seared perfectly, with that delicate golden crust and soft, buttery center. Paired with the creamy risotto, it felt luxurious and comforting at the same time. It was the kind of dish you keep talking about afterward because it is that good. Dessert somehow raised the bar even more. The chocolate tart was rich, smooth, and deeply satisfying--pure indulgence. The fruit tart was fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced, with a delicate crust and vibrant flavors that made it feel light and refreshing after such an incredible meal. Both desserts were truly delicious and the perfect ending. The service matched the food and atmosphere: welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. Every interaction made the night feel even more special, and it never felt rushed--just warm and thoughtful from start to finish. And a special mention to our waitress, Rae--the most pleasant, kind, accommodating, and positive soul you can find. Her smiling welcome immediately put us at ease and made us feel so happy to be there. She truly elevated the entire experience. If I can give this place seven stars, I would!

The parking was easy to access and real close to the venue. The ceremony was nice, but the chairs were very close together and they didn't put any extra chairs out. They only had enough chairs for the number of people who attended. (I didn't appreciate this during COVID.) Furthermore, some people's view was blocked by pillars. This continued into the reception. We couldn't see some of the dancing and speeches because of the pillars. The Barn has one big room that is separated into by a partition for cocktail hour. I was surprised that all 100+ people easily fit in this smaller area. Part of the reason it worked was because they have a nice little loft where some people went for cocktail hour. As for the acoustics, I give this place 5 out of 5 stars. Granted it has a lot to do with the quality of the DJ's speakers, but it has good acoustics. The aesthetics of The Barn were okay. I feel like they were confused as to what they wanted to do when designing the space. They have 2 beautiful chandeliers that would be a perfect fit in a ball room, but don't work with the wood features. The last thing that I found a little distasteful was that you could see the tables that were going to be used for the reception during the ceremony.

The house was beautifully decorated at the holidays. The tour guide seemed not to like or want to focus on the history of the house or the objects inside unless asked. It felt like she was bringing a lot of personal biases to her perspective, which made the experience a lot less enjoyable than it could have been otherwise. She took us through the first-floor rooms and then announced the top floor is self-guided only. At the admission price, that detracted from it being a better experience. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is the new manager of the site, and they bring a historical interpretation to the site that some visitors may not find as valuable as the tours given by the previous volunteer staff. There is a garden, a greenhouse, and a nice-sized gift shop. It's a beautiful house, and I did like getting some information on the inhabitants and the long history of the property. The presentation itself needed improvement, but the site was worth preserving.

The road down to the main building was not paved, very long and bumpy. Once you arrive to where you're ready to park there really aren't any signs directing you of where to go so we went up to someone at the big building and asked if we were at the right place to which they confirmed we were. I would suggest a larger sign on the main road stating that the entrance is coming up rather than right at the entrance. There was a very cute store inside which would have been very nice to shop at but there was only one person working the pay line which was also full of people buying drinks and cocktails. I highly suggest at least 2 people working that area in the beginning when people are arriving and definitely at intermission. We would have purchased more if we were able to get in line, purchase our items, and be back in time but we didn't think we would make it back in time. Also, when leaving any event, PLEASE be very careful. There weren't any lights leading away from the building to the parking lot which was pretty scary given that it also was not paved or a sidewalk. It was rocks/dirt and we all had to use our phones to leave. This could be dangerous for others that may have more of a difficult time seeing at night.

The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The bedding was soft and fresh, and extra blankets and linens were readily available in the cottage. The bathroom was well maintained and stocked with plenty of towels. We also appreciated the well-appointed kitchen and enjoyed having a Keurig available throughout our stay. One of the highlights of our visit was the breakfast. Each morning featured delicious, made-to-order eggs along with other offerings such as pancakes. The homemade blueberry muffins were exceptional and easily made my list of all-time favorites. The owners were charming, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the local area and nearby attractions. Their recommendations helped make our visit even more enjoyable. We had a wonderful stay at Briar Patch B&B and look forward to returning in the future. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

It smells musty throughout and makes you wonder about the cleanliness. It does not resemble the photos which must be very old. Kitchen had dirty dishes and pots in the sink, a jumble of food and items filling the counter. The pool was green across the whole bottom - it had not been vacuumed in ages. The beds had old mattresses that were lumpy and the bathroom tub and shower curtain were yellow with age. The onsite staff was not welcoming nor helpful. I would NOT recommend anyone stay here. The entire place needs some capital to fund a complete refresh. It is past its prime.

The venue was beautiful and all the staff were incredible, making sure our wedding went as smoothly as possible. Isadora and Grace were both exceptionally professional, kind, and courteous to us, our vendors, and our guests. They accommodated all of our requests throughout the planning process and during our wedding. We were especially amazed at how much backend work Rixey handled for us including setup, teardown, and wrangling of vendors. We didn't need to worry about any of that and everything came out perfectly. They also made absolutely sure that we were comfortable throughout. They kept us fed, helped the bride get ready, and regularly checked on us to make sure we were okay. On a more personal note, Isadora and Grace also went above and beyond with all of our floral needs, helping us put together our arbor flowers and a new beautiful bouquet for the bride with some of our spare flowers. At Rixey, you're in the hands of real pros who want your wedding to be perfect and are ready to go the extra mile to make sure that happens. Highly recommended. :)
