The ceremony and cocktail hour were held on the first floor and the reception was upstairs (and yes, there are elevators). The only caveat is that there are only bathrooms on the first floor, so we all made multiple up-and-down trips throughout the night. There is also an outdoor terrace on the second floor (unfortunately, the view is... the parking lot) but it was a nice area to chat with other wedding guests on a breezy, late May evening. The dance floor area was a bit small for the amount of guests, but it ended up working out. The dinner was buffet style, and the food was quite good! The strawberry salad was tasty, but maybe a bit too much dressing. The mashed potatoes were very garlicky with the perfect texture (not too smooth, but not too chunky). The steamed vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were seasoned enough to be enjoyable on its own and with the protein. There were three protein options: chicken, salmon, and steak. The chicken had a creamy sauce with a red pepper topping that I didn't love. The salmon was seasoned generously, but it was a bit overcooked. The steak was seared quite nicely, cooked medium, and it was my favorite of all three proteins. Overall, the food was good for a wedding venue. This was a great venue to have a wedding! We all had a great time at Sweeney Barn to celebrate our friends getting married.

Drinks are always on point, and the food is always delicious. I would hope for more variety in the menu next time though as it seemed to be too heavy on seafood dishes. I would prefer a more balanced menu with better options for all. Only complaint from another guest was that their steak was overcooked (medium instead of rare), but, to be fair, they did not request rare and the server did not ask. Zack (who showed me the property and set up the reservation) and Cindy (who was on-site manager the day of the event) were very easy to work with. Since, the property is managed by Fairfax County; I never got the feeling that I was being upsold. The space itself has both pros and cons. The cons of the space is that is split into several small to medium sized rooms making it difficult to host a typical style reception (our guests stayed and gravitated outside so we hardly needed the indoor space). You have to bring down the chairs and tables from the top of the stairs (the tables and chairs are included in your rental costs). The Dranesville Tavern only has a cold kitchen (so, if you'd like an event where the cater(ers) are cooking something fresh at your party site this is not the location for you). You must have a license catering (no on-site cooking from the hosts is permitted). You have to pay (and give yourself additional time) to obtain an ABC license from the state of VA. The pros are the outdoor space includes 2 large covered decks on either side of the property. Our party was able to set out the chairs and tables on the deck and our guests brought their food from the buffet (set up in one of the rooms inside). If you're looking for a place with charm the Dranesville Tavern is a nice mixture. It is historic without being small (believe it can hold up to 80 people). It also has a nice rustic feel to it. The exterior of the buliding looked nice in our pictures. The Dranesville Tavern gives you an rain plan. Although we only used the indoor space for a place to store gifts, drinks and the buffet; it was nice to know had it rained that we could still host our guests comfortably. The lawns at the Dranesville Tavern are large and surround the property and although this property is located off a busy road it feels very private. Our party had several lawn games for people to enjoy (making the lawns even more pleasant place to spend an afternoon). There is ample parking (at no additional cost) located next to the property. In a nutshell for the cost and space, if you're looking for a place that feels special without the upcharge; I would suggest looking at the Dranesville Tavern.

It's run by Fairfax County and the staff were easy to work with and helpful as we planned our event. The only drawback to the building is that there isn't one large room like most event spaces. But there is a nice porch that over looks a beautiful lawn. There are multiple good sized rooms where you can set up tables for food and seating on both floors. Overall given the reasonable cost, good proximity to Nova/DC, lovely historic building, and abundant parking it was a choice and I would recommend it for small to medium gatherings (30-60 people), particularly in the spring and fall.

Shab did a fabulous job explaining the venue to us, Fara laid out all of our decor options, Viviane helped us with the audio/visual, and Mashal helped us with with the food and billing. We felt completely guided throughout the entire process and the team was very responsive to our needs. Fara (Ala Mode) impressed us with her ability to make our fairytale vision come to life! Fara met with us several times to review our details and preferences. She really gets to know her clients! Fara's knowledge of decor, flowers, and arrangements is truly a gift! She executed exactly what we wanted. My mom and I loved Fara so much! Viviane and her team at Bright Consultation set the tone for our reception. Months before our big day, they had us come in and selected everything from the hues of the lights to the style of the name projection on the wall. Bright Consultation made our DJ's life easier by having an awesome sound system that he could just plug into. Bright Consultation also made our grand entrance perfect with the cold spark boxes and the amazing spot lights! The lighting was perfect! Mashal was responsive with any and all billing questions we had and everything was so transparent. The food was good and my family enjoyed the bar! The Photo Booth didn't with because of strong sunlight. No one can see any instructions that aren't supposed to be in the mirror.

They had a really nice spread laid out including lamb chops, crab balls, beef meatballs and assorted salads and such. Those meatballs on toothpicks were really good too (definitely not the frozen ones you generally see in such spaces). The food was particularly well done - you could even taste the mint in the lamb. I've been here a couple few times over the years and I enjoyed coming here last night. I had a sampling of a bourbon and did a red wine which both were nicely done. (dude gave me an extra helping of the red wine) We smoked cigars out on the balcony deck and chopped it up for a bit. All in all it was a good night. Highly recommend this place for convenience, for sure.

The air conditioner wasn't working in bridal section upstairs. just the men's lounge. It was so hot! For how expensive this venue was they should have had air fixed or fans. It was 95 degrees outside! you are renting the building. No excuse for this! The wedding was outside and party inside. The ballroom was pretty hot also! many guests complained. My short hair was soaked the entire day and makeup melting as well as rest of the wedding party and guests. Wedding was so far behind the original time. No handicap access. The place is gorgeous.

I was impressed by the size, cleanliness and functional layout of the community center. There was convenient & easy parking and a large lobby area that draws you back towards diverging hallways with a series of large adjacent rooms for holding community activities and events. For the 2023 Chocolate Festival there was a whole hallway of rooms where the vendors were displaying their delicious chocolate candies & treats that they had for sale! It was a very organized event. All purchases being made with tickets that you bought from the cashiers at a long table in the lobby just around the corner of the hallway. Down the other hallway was a special room set up as a children's game room with arts & crafts and Legos for the kids to build with. My grandchildren loved it! There were benches for relaxing on conveniently placed by the bathrooms. We sat there and shared some of the chocolate treats that we bought! That same day a flute quartet was providing music for the visitors. This was a super fun event. I would gladly return to this venue for other family themed activities.
