I recently attended a Pilates class with Liz, and I continue to be deeply impressed by her exceptional instruction. Liz is a phenomenal teacher whose precision, attentiveness, and capacity to tailor her guidance to each student's body are nothing short of extraordinary. Her corrections are subtle yet transformative, and she leads with both authority and empathy, creating an environment of confidence, safety, and growth. It is regrettable that Liz's talents are not more broadly acknowledged within the gym. Her classes do not receive the same visibility or promotion as many of the more mainstream group activities--and that is a disservice both to her as an instructor and to potential students who would immensely benefit from her expertise. This is especially poignant during the season of Diwali, a sacred time in September/October that honors light over darkness, spiritual renewal, and the triumph of knowledge and mindfulness. Liz's approach to Pilates--centered on balance, breath, focus, and inner strength--resonates powerfully with the spiritual symbolism of Diwali. In fact, her class would have been an ideal program to promote during this period, as it aligns so beautifully with the themes of illumination, inner harmony, and self-transformation. Liz is not just a capable instructor--she is an extraordinary asset to the Pilates community. She deserves far greater recognition, support, and promotion so that more students can discover the profound value she offers. YMCA management needs to be open to your members needs. The diversity and age audience has changed. Idea - perhaps incorporating yoga class nights for couples while their children are being taken care of? Absolutely wonderful. My son used to be in different swim team for years and had such a bad experience, but since we change his swim team to YMCA Sharks Meadowlands, he has been much much happier. The pool is clean and the instructors are good, but the swim director is very unprofessional. Emails go unanswered, there's no advance notice if a teacher is absent, and overall communication is poor. After my child's last lesson of the summer session, I asked for feedback or a progress report so we could decide whether to continue here or elsewhere. Instead of giving me a proper assessment, he handed me a generic "certificate of achievement" stating my child had completed water acclimation. He didn't even consult the instructor to provide a meaningful written update. Very disappointing. read more

My original review last year in '24 was mainly about the unfixed broken lockers in the shower as well as slowly but surely cutting out the 8-9:15 swim slot for members Only tuesday night zumba they'll pay the lifeguard to stay, it's not fair to us that utilize the pool while working a 9-5 job. Last weekend my daughter attended a birthday party here. It was AWESOME!!! The kids enjoyed swimming in the pool before heading to the party room. I plan on getting the schedule for the swim class, and enrolling my children. The pool was kept very clean, and the life guards on duty were attentive. I like the place only a member for 2 months and they raised my rates $9.00 a month at a senior rate. I'm going to be cancelling membership soon. I's a shame too because it was working out nicely too, you would think they would give the seniors a break and cut it in half nope the same increase as everyone else. read more

Not sure why it took me so long to write this review considering I've been a member since the gym first opened but I really just want to share that this is the best gym I have ever been to. The Y feels like a community. There's people of all shapes, sizes, and colors, coming in and out all day and the gym offers an array of services to its members. Since the beginning, this place has always been clean, welcoming, and the employees are wonderful. It has never once felt crowded (compared to the other gyms in the area) and it's really easy to get into any group class you want. Not to mention, the instructors are amazing and some really go the extra mile to make friends with the members. The amenities at the Y can accommodate pretty much any gym goer. This place really goes above and beyond for its members compared to other gyms in the area. read more

I had my daughter's 7th birthday at the ymca on Saturday (March 2,2024! It was the best party ever ! The three women who ran the party ( Hannah, Holly,& Shaquerra) were phenomenal! They were so helpful and amazing with all the children, and there were alot of kids !! The lifeguards who monitored the kids in the pool were fantastic ! All of their attention were on the kids the entire time ! They didn't take their eyes off of them! All of the parents were very impressed how well the party ran ! I can't thank the YMCA enough for throwing my babygirl such an awesome party ! Thank you to Phil Stern for organizing the party and doing such a great job ! Love this place. All ages and body types feel welcome. Facilities are lovely. Cheaper than a few luxe gyms. Basketball courts and pool super rare. I also like the community mission. I've given blood here and appreciate their efforts to feed the needy and have childcare for first responders during the pandemic. Decent classes, but I'm mostly here to swim laps. Pool staff is kind. Let me start with the positive. It's clean, neat and well designed. Marble tile and all that. The staff I have encountered were friendly and presented professionally. Now the negative. I signed up in May during the promotion of their grand opening. I did it mostly for the gym. Its the only thing I needed from them. I used the gym once and that was today bc I was off. My original plan was to work out on the weekends, but the first Saturday I tried they had no child watch (a babysitting service that's either $5 per visit or $15 per month) after 12pm on the weekends. I came at 1pm. How is this user friendly? I can't make it there after work or anytime other than the weekends. And having the child care from 8-12pm is constricting. At least at other gyms that offer childcare it's offered in shifts on the weekends. The other thing I dislike is the entrance doors. There is no easy wheelchair access with the doors. The doors are like fortress doors, heavy. And if you have a stroller or are in a wheelchair its cumbersome to manage the doors. They should have the handicap auto open doors or a sliding door. I mentioned this the first time I came. Nothing has been done. I cancelled my membership. But they are still charging me for August. That is a total rip off. They prorated my May bill but couldnt do it with this last one considering I cancelled before the new month began. read more

I've been a member at this location for two years and on and off for years before that (always for classes for my kids) and I don't know if I'd actually recommend someone joining. My beefs: The membership isn't cheap (even if you're able to get a deal/discount) and a lot of the programs (like swimming classes) aren't included so you still need to pay for them separately. I'm not exaggerating when I say every single time I've called and left a voicemail or sent an e-mail - not once were they ever returned/replied to/answered. And if you do reach someone - more times than not it's someone inexperienced that says they need to contact their supervisor and... nothing ever comes of it. They've charged a wrong credit card when I renewed my membership for the year. (You might not think that's such a big deal until you realize they'd charged the Mrs' card and not mine at all. Major oops right there.) The swimming pool (nicer and much warmer than the old days of having to use Rutherford High's pool) - "family time" we're sequestered into a small portion of the pool and The Y seems to make the hours intentionally NOT family friendly and immediately change the schedule as soon as school is out for summer break. Up until recently they had classes back-to-back with no 'wiggle room' between them. That meant the first class's hour was interrupted by the next class looking to get into the room to get set-up so they can have their full hour. (Finally someone came to their senses to have a 5 minute break between classes.) The Y definitely offers a lot of programs and seem to do a lot for the surrounding community. And this facility is definitely cool and everything is clean and well-maintained but it's still just too cramped. Yoga class/instructor Christina - 5 stars. Everything else - 3 stars. read more

This gym is so nice, It makes me want to scream the YMCA song every time I visit. Pros: All equipment is new and clean. As a member you have access to both the onsite pool & the Rutherford HS pool. I have been a member since this place opened. PROS: They added treadmills and they try to keep the place clean. They offer many classes and activities for adults and kids. James - Membership Manager, approachable, sarcastic humor and remembers names. CONS: Gym rules are not enforced such us no bags on the floor, people working out in flip flops, kids running around especially in the weekends and posers hogging the machines. Also, horrible music choice blasting over your own ear buds. Weak ventilation so if it's crowded downstairs, you can smell all sorts of odor. read more

My husband and I joined this Y at the end of February . We took a tour of the facility and were very impressed! We joined right away! The facility is clean, the equipment brand new and the staff is friendly and accommodating . We are both seniors and feel very comfortable training here. I signed up for Personal Training with Lucy Bates. She is the BEST trainer I've ever had and I've had quite a few over the years. I've watched her train other members and she is focused on each individual's needs and capabilities. Additionally, she is extremely knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend Lucy Bates! Both my wife and myself joined in July, one of the best life choices we have made. Stronger and healthier! Great workouts then sauna and a steam makes for a perfect day. The wife hired a personal trainer and goes for her massages. The facilities are new and clean and very well equipped. I was hesitating to join because I just wanted to just go to the classes offered but didn't know if they would match the same satisfaction I had with another instructor I took classes with somewhere else. So I went to check it out and was considering doing a day pass to check out a class, specifically barre and Zumba. I had previously taken classes from a woman named Dani Letsche in Rutherford at the Kip Center who taught both those amazing classes. The workout was second to none which was so inspiring. Happily I came to find out that she had joined the YMCA team as an instructor of Barre and Zumba. When I heard this I was so happy I joined that day! I took the barre class first and it was great! I still felt that workout 2 days later. lol The facility is new and has lots to offer including a pool. Looking forward to more great classes at a reasonable price! I am so happy!! read more

It's great that there's a YMCA facility with plenty of enrichment programs for adults and children alike, a clean pool and child watch program that allows parents to drop off their kids for free baby sitting. Those 3 benefits warrants 3 stars, however there's more room for improvement. I've noted those below and hope the Y staff will take note and make some changes: - Family swim time is a JOKE and should just be call bath time, not swim time. When you divide two lanes in half and stick 50-70 ppl in it, there will be NO swimming. In fact, swimming is not even encouraged because you're not allowed to use a foam board, nor allowed to be more than an arm's reach from your child! Just divide up the entire pool in half for family swim or get rid of family swim altogether, please! Don't advertise it as a membership benefit when it isn't. - Swim lessons, 1 instructor to 6, 8 or 10 kids is a terrible ratio. The ratio changes depending on the different levels. For a 30 minutes session, you'll be lucky to get more than 5 mins of instruction per child. And if you want private or semi-private lessons? Good luck trying to get a response about them. My friends and I have contacted the Y about private or semi-private swim lessons for months now and we've received no responses or lame responses to be patient as they seem to have a long waiting list. You also can't sign up for swim lessons online... - Limited Youth & Family Room Hours: I have 3 kids and 1 is too old for the Child Watch program but not old enough to go into the adult fitness or workout areas. As a result, I am limited to taking classes or working out when both Child Watch and Youth & Family Rooms are open. read more

Right now I am only using the child care center for my infant and I am beyond impressed with the staff and facility. It's not easy picking out a place where your child will be. There are so many factors to consider other than cost and cleanliness. I am 110% comfortable leaving my baby in such good hands. They let me know how he is doing, make me feel like a good mom, and appear to have a smooth running operation for a facility that is still so new. Not to mention, we are kind of a demanding client! My husband works shift work so our baby's care schedule changes weekly and they have been more than considerate about that. Seriously so great! read more

Beautiful clean and high tech facility. Love the fact that I can reserve my spot for classes especially popular ones like cycle. They even let you chose the bike you want beforehand. Everything gets synced to the mywellness app so you can keep track of your workouts. All the instructors I have encountered have been fun and informative. It's definitely the nicest YMCA I've been to in New Jersey. It's big on the inside with a lot of cardio equipment and a big pool and a lot of free weights, benches and smith machines. Absolutely Furious with this facility and its staff. When I joined back in March I specifically asked of my 12 year old son could use the gym. I was told yes. I asked again while on my tour I was told yes. By the Wellness Director Michelle. The gym opened and we were working out no problem. On Friday night June 2nd. I witnessed a women get into an argument with another member over children being in the gym. The police were called. The next time I entered the gym a new age restriction policy was posted saying only kids above 13 could use the gym. I complained and was told it was always the policy. Which is clearly a lie. I have complained to the CEO Jane Egan through email and multiple phone calls. She has yet to call me back. Do not join this facility. They will lie to you to get your membership. I am extremely disappointed in this facility, specifically the way it is managed and run. Staff is highly unprofessional. Does not respond to emails. There is absolutely no courtesy in the weight room, which is the main reason I joined. By courtesy I mean putting weights back where they belong and stripping bars. Members leave weights on the floor when they are done and walk away from bars stacked with multiple 45 lb plates. None of the staff are ever around to manage this. The locker room is also not cared for. Every time I'm there, the sinks and floors are covered in hair. If I'd wanted this kind of environment I would have stayed at NY Sports Club where I could be paying half the monthly rate. read more

I enrolled my 2 year for the first time here. I wish I could provide more rating to this day care/Preschool. He was here for 2 years and enjoyed every single day of the preschool. His favorite teacher were Ms. Paula, Ms. Elaine, Mr. Eddie and liked Ms. Marci. Ms. Marci use to give extra attention to him and always use to get him his work done if he tried to ignore it. Ms. Ellen is the director of the program here and she is Phenomenal. Summer camp are not the best due so many kids in the class room, but the school year September to June are perfect with state approved student teacher ratio. My kid learned social behavior and enjoyed getting along with other kids as well. school has pretty good structure for toddlers and preschoolers. My son learned educational as well strong social foundation. we both miss his school teachers everyday now as I changed his school to Montessori for Pre-K. read more
