Do not come here if you have a reactive or slightly menacing dog. Had a vet tech shout at my dog, who had a basket muzzle and lead AND harness on (as they had asked in pervious vet visits when she had done this), for lunging at her ankles. This dog is a smaller chubby dog that weighs 50~. She then proceeded to scream at me for saying I was going to leave because I was not going to tolerate and let my dog be traumatized. She continued to scream at me from the back when I went up front, which confused me by a lot. The front staff didn't seem phased or cared, and called my complaint a "vent". I sent a very long email explaining the events and asking why and if this is what they stood for. The only response I got was their medical records (as I had asked because I am promptly changing) My dog has been dejected and not the same sense. Disgusting behavior all around from staff, which is a shame too because the doctor is very lovely. read more

For those saying it's not affordable clearly haven't been to many vet offices. My pit-bull now 4 years old was purchased at the young age of six weeks old while I was still in college. So she's been to at least 8 different vets from the best of the best that nearly broke my bank to the cheapest of the cheaps, which was the free humane society shelter vet voucher I got when I adopted her. I have taken several of my dogs to Meadowrun. The staff has been very good with all of them. My current dog, Akasha, is a pit-bull pound rescue and she can be quite a handful when she's being temperamental. Beth is exceptionally good with putting Akasha at ease--not an easy thing for a 'stranger' to do. Please do not take your loving company to Meadowrun. They don't care about your loving company. People works here have no sympathy, compassion, caring. Dr. Challenger didn't even bother to come out and talk to me about my girl's condition. Who knows what happened behind that doors. My loving pup's condition got worse after they injected fluid and antibiotic. She couldn't even stand or sit. No urgency or immediate action when I brought her back in the next morning when she was suffering. This vet tech / receptionist was about to take my pup in. My gut said not to leave her with them so we just headed back home. Shortly after we came home she passed away in my arms. I was so sad to see my pup pass away but was glad to listen to my gut and brought her back homebwith me. She died in my arms shortly after we came back home. My vet retired and referred us to Meadowrun. At first the service was fine, but it has generally gone down hill. I don't know if the staff is snotty because they are overworked, or what, but my last trip there was horrible. I am fully aware of all the Covid-19 precautions and that I will have to wait in the parking lot, but I got there and waited 45 minutes in the Florida heat. Today we had a heat index of 100 degrees in Brandon. It would melt a normal person, let alone someone with congenital heart disease who has had open heart surgery. My poor cat was starting to freak-out, and I finally had to flag down someone in the parking lot to find out when my cat could get in, or if could just drop him off as I was starting to get sick and the cat was upset. She informed me the vet had been sick yesterday and was overbooked. Great. Just great. She told me I could drop the cat off, but I needed to fill out paperwork. I sat in that parking lot another 15 minutes, engine running, air on full blast feeling like I was going to get heat stroke. Meanwhile, my long-haired, Maine Coon mix cat was going crazy trying to get out of his carrier. Way to go Meadowrun! I was getting sick, turning bright red, I couldn't stay in the heat much longer and their staff seriously, seriously did not care. I guess that is why they offer a coupon. Furthermore, they did NOT tell us that at the last time our cat got his meds filled that he would need blood work before it could be refilled. When I called to get it refilled, they didn't bother telling me he needed blood work and told me that would put his request "in the pile". That should have been my first clue. It wasn't until I called back the following day I found out he needed blood work. I asked why I wasn't told about that earlier and the girl told me: "It says that on the bottle." Indeed it does, in teeny, tiny writing I somehow missed. However, to not tell me this when I'd made multiple calls and was obviously concerned about my cat is really unprofessional and rude. I wish I'd gotten this snotty girl's name because I would insert it here. Telling a concerned client they should have read the label is just smug and unhelpful. Rude and unprofessional describes this place. I cannot sit in a hot parking lot for hours on end. I get the Covid-19 thing, but they need to stop using this as an excuse and stop overbooking. Especially when a client informs them that they have serious health issues. Which I did. I feel like there is a war on sick people in this country and a complete lack of consideration and compassion that maybe, just maybe we need a little bit of help, or just simple human courtesy. Quite frankly, I don't know many healthy people who could have sat in that parking lot in that kind of heat for any length of time. Ridiculous. So angry that I put my sweet, old cat through that for nothing. I've found another vet and will have to send my husband over there on his day off. I know owning a pet is not inexpensive and people have to watch their budgets. I guess that is Meadowrun's marketing ploy. Unfortunately, Meadowrun really isn't any more "affordable" than any other vet. Their prices are at best comparable to other vets of their caliber in this area, if not slightly higher. We had animals for years and they are not cheap. When we first went there they seemed like decent vets, but since then their quality has gone downhill rapidly. They are too busy soliciting new clients with coupons to care about their existing clientele. read more

Great experience! Recently moved to the area and was searching for an affordable yet caring vet for my two cats and their litter of seven kittens. Our previous litter (4 kittens) vet fee for their Initial shots was $600. Meadowrun only cost $450 for basically double the amount of kittens (7 total). Along with the great prices, the receptionist and vet/assistants were super friendly. They only took an hour for all of the shots whereas my previous vet took a little over two and a half hours. I have been underwhelmed by this clinic every visit. They seem to have major staffing issues as they cannot accommodate urgent care needs in a 48 hr span of time. The wait times are very high and the staff seem to be spread terribly thin. Since they are unable to care for my animals in the manner desired we will be moving to a different veterinarian. I do not at all understand the poor reviews for Dr Champion and the staff. The staff was BEYOND caring. Every single person from Sharon who answered my phone call, to each vet tech and Dr. Champion herself. Our dog was hemorrhaging blood orally and from his bum. He had deteriorated VERY quickly in just a matter of hours in the night hours after what seemed to be just a little tummy upset with soft stools and retching foamy clear fluid. We had taken him in the night to FETCH. Our budget was extremely tight as our Tohbee's brother Caysee has been having some expensive health issues that we're still trying to get to the bottom of with liver shunt birth defect being the probable cause of HIS issues. Plus the impact of Covid on our finances and lost income. FETCH quoted us $ 2600 low end up to $4000+ high end. We explained we did not have the $$ to do that so ended up paying almost $200 for just the office visit and iv fluids and something for the nausea. 5 hours after getting home from that visit we began our calls to all vets in this area AND Tampa. We probably talked to approximately 15 different practices from 7:30a - 10:15a while juggling Tohbee's needs and searching for yet the next vet to call. Even his own vet clinic said they couldn't see him. No matter whom we talked to the answer was "no", good luck! WHAT??? My dog is hemorrhaging, dehydrated and will die without affordable treatment! And no one has room for an urgent life threatening condition? Good luck??? I also understand that a handful of the clinics we called didn't have a vet there for the day. If I were a vet, and knew that going into the office would save a life I would ABSOLUTELY allow myself to be on call. So when Sharon answered and said that they had no availability, my heart dropped to the flloor one more time. I was already crying and panicked. I explained what was going on, how much FETCH had wanted to charge us and how much we had to spend if they could work at all with our budget. She said that Dr Champion was getting ready to go into surgery but she would check with her. Within minutes she was back on the line saying get here as fast as you can and Dr Champion will see what we can do. While on the way, we called in and Sharon took all the information so that when we arrived all we had to do was sign on the dotted line. We have had probably 6-7 vet visits for our pets since Covid happened. Dr. Champion was the ONLY vet who took the time to come out and discuss Tohbee. One pet died due to lack of vets who would triage and take the time to work in an emergency. So to all the pet parents who might have had to wait a bit longer for their pet to be seen, I thank you. Our Tohbee would not be alive. If I were in the shoes of knowing there was a life threatening emergecy rushed in ahead of me? I would ABSOLUTELY wait my turn and/or reschedule if not a necessary visit due to sickness. For those who fuss about waiting in the car during Covid, I hate it too. But that is NOT our vet's fault!!! Those precautions have been handed down by our government, not the vets. For those who cussed out Dr Champion and/or her staff? People, is that the answer for real? Misdiagnosis can definitely happen at any vet. Tohbee's symptoms could have been so many other things. However, instead of throwing every expensive in the book at him (like FETCH wanted to do)... She treated his symptoms with the POSSIBILITY that he had hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). He stayed for the day. Only one diagnostic test was done and that was a fecal to make sure it wasn't parasites. He was hydrated via IV (and they somehow managed to get an IV in and keep it there (FETCH was not able to accomplish this with the one med and had to administer orally which took 2 hours longer to help him.) His upset tummy was addressed. Medication for the diarrhea was administered. I could go on endlessly about what all they did for him. By the time we picked him up 5 1/2 hours later our little "grumpy old man" was showing marked improvement. They wisely left the port in in case he needed more treatment the following morningl AND obviously juggled so that he could be seen the next morning. We just can't say thank you enough and "Shame on you" to those who have given such wretched reviews. The communication was excellent, they answered every question we had and estimate for care AND treatment plan was all in writing as well. When we picked him up, a new invoice was ready with (guess what?) ... less $$ than they had estimated. If they're all about money, then why would they have not just gone with the quoted estimate or driven up the cost with say bloodwork? Etc. The parking lot was packed when we arrived and again when we picked up. The vet techs, Sharon who answered our call and Dr. Champion were RUNNING in & out of the doors of Meadowrun to meet the needs of everyone. By the time we picked him up at 5pm, we could literally see the exhaustion on her face. (to be continued)!!! read more

I scheduled an appt for my dog to be looked at on the 9th and get a price range for his dental cleaning. He has genetic gum disease and has been in a lot of pain but I couldn't find a vet that did before, during, and after IV's which he absolutely needs due to underlying kidney issues. First appt went great, staff was very nice and so was the vet that took a look at him. She said herself that he is an absolute priority and we needed to get him in as soon as possible. Got him scheduled that day for the procedure plus a neuter the following week. Took off work and drove the near hour for his appt that following Friday the 15th only to show up and be told I didn't have an appt and it was set for the following Friday. I absolutely know what day we scheduled as I put it in my calendar as the receptionist was telling me date and time. The manager had the nerve to tell me that "the receptionist and the vet both were there and confirmed they told you the 22nd, not the 15th." They clearly do not have staff that know how to even schedule appointments nor do they care about the well being of their patients. Now I have to wait another week with him in pain and take off another day of work that, during this pandemic, is nearly impossible. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. My dog now has to suffer even longer for their mistake. The only reason I'm taking him back at all is because I don't have the time to find another vet and I can't put him through any more pain. read more

I have been going to Meadowrun for over 20 years. Dr Fishbach was an amazing vet with an incredible staff. As his retirement approached a few years ago I was concerned to see who he picked to take over the practice. To my delight, Dr Jennifer Challenger took over. She is young, enthusiastic and doesn't mind getting down on the floor with the dogs. Her love and her staffs love of animals is apparent. We have 4 dogs that are very well taken care of and she's even given me advice on our Bearded Dragon. She doesn't try to sell you expensive procedures and works with you to find the best treatment for your animal. I highly recommend Dr Challenger and Meadowrun Affordable Pet Care. read more

I wish I could give this location less then one star. our cat went in for a burn on his foot and was treated, i have no complaints about that treatment however its the subsequent treatment after. After going into hiding we contacted them back and set up for a follow up. The day of his apt things went downhill fast, our cat couldn't move and was stuck with all legs straight. The suspected tetanus. I was lead to believe through the process that this was tetanus and that the neurologist they consulted with felt it could be meningitis but the treatment would be the same. FIP was never really fully discussed as a potential diagnosis as it was mentioned in passing. I had spoken to a friend about what was going on and the tetanus diagnosis and treatment who referred it to her vet who asked to see the paperwork as they had never seen it before in a cat. I called Meadowrun to ask about having records faxed as they had never heard of it in cats. I made it clear it was just curious eyes wanting to see everything. I was met by a receptionist who got very defensive. I shrugged off my concern about how reactive she got from simply asking for the records to be faxed. The vet that wanted to see the records called me to tell me this wasn't tetanus but FIP as the symptoms matched most cases of severe FIP. Once i saw the medical records the neuro that meadowrun consulted with felt this wasn't tetanus but also looked as though it was FIP. Meadowrun ran up charges for meds and treatment they knew were not going to cure our cat. I asked for a partial refund because they ignored a specialists call on the diagnosis and delayed him from obtaining proper treatment for the FIP (non fda drug) and kept treating him for something they were told he didn't have. when asking for the refund I was met with they didn't feel they did anything wrong so they would not issue a refund, I went as far as to quote them the area of the chart that had the neuro's opinion of the situation they consulted with. I am currently in the middle of filing a complaint with the state on this location and their handling of his treatment. By the way my cat after switching from this clinic to another and going on an 84 day treatment plan for FIP is cured and flourishing. I wouldn't recommend taking any pet here. It may be "affordable" but it's subpar treatment for your pet. I will say the vet tech we had for him there was great and informative but that's where the care really ended. read more

We've seen Dr Fishbaugh since we moved to the area and have loved him, however they seem to have had a turnover of staff recently. At our last visit, we arrived a few minutes early for our appointment and we waited for an hour to be seen for all of 5 minutes. The visit (an exam and a shot) cost almost $200. When we called to schedule an appointment this morning, the staff repeatedly put us on hold with no hold music (leaving us to wonder if they'd hung up). Staff is now combative and rude. Any question we had was met with disinterested and judgmental remarks that made us uncomfortable entrusting our pets to them. Regardless of cost, our #1 priority is quality care for our fur kids, and it seems that Meadowrun is no longer interested in our business. read more

We just welcomed a new puppy into our family. We took great care in choosing who would be his veterinarian. After reading multiple positive reviews about Meadowrun and speaking to a very nice receptionist, we thought this would be the perfect place. When I called back to schedule the appointment, I was taken back at how short the new receptionist was with me when I asked questions. I still made the appointment because we all have bad days and maybe this just wasn't her day. I was told that I would not be allowed in the building because of covid 19 precautions. Understandable. They said the doctor would come out to my car so we could still meet our puppy's new doctor and speak about his first appointment. Good compromise, I thought. We arrived at the appointment on time and waited 50 minutes in the car just to sign the initial paperwork. When I called just to make sure we weren't accidentally skipped, the receptionist had a bad attitude and even responded to my questions with grunts and sighs instead of actual words. I still waited thinking the doctor would be more professional. Someone came out to take our puppy and when I spoke with her about what happened, she said she would have the office manager call so we can discuss my concerns. 3 hours later, no call from the doctor, no call from the office manager, but the receptionist called, not about our puppy, but only for payment information, then came out with the discharge paperwork. When I asked to talk with the doctor about the appointment, I was again, met with rudeness and unprofessionalism. She then gave me a contract to sign. As I was reading through it, she impatiently said to put it in the mailbox because it was time for her lunchbreak. After my 3 hours of waiting in the car, she couldn't wait for me to sign the contract. I still haven't spoken with the doctor, nor have I spoken to the office manager. I am shocked at all of the positive reviews, they are very misleading. I hope this was a one time incident and will try them again because I know we are all new to this pandemic style of living and doing business, but there is no excuse for the unprofessionalism when conducting business. read more
