Dr Sierra has turned into another money maker only interested in pushing additional tests as if the arthritis is made up and interior cheaper meds when we are simply looking for comfort care and continued maintenance of prior conditions. My GSD is 11 and has arthritis pain and high anxiety that has always been present. I dislike feeling like we are looking for drugs for my own use or something because I challenge her and ask questions WTH did I really get lucky and find myself a dog that needed some management for pain and stress all so I could take the damn pills myself?? I imagine when your pet is young and has a lifetime of expenses ahead things here are rosey. As your fur baby ages watch out all of sudden they find a million diagnosis like heart worm which we since also confirmed was a false diagnosis and trying to sell dentals to a dog that might not survive anesthesia. . Follow Up on my last review; This veterinary office lacks professionalism from the top down. If you have an urgent matter, they stand by a review time of 24-48 hours to even look at your needs. My complaint was on 12/11 and the office manager, Cymri, said I would get a call back the next day. Upon looking at my call log, I had a missed call at 4:50 pm the following day, but no voicemail. They called again on 12/16 with no voicemail. This office opened my complaint email 17 TIMES, (see attached) but couldn't respond once? They couldn't send an email saying we tried to reach you? It took you 6 days to write up a lame excuse on why you wouldn't help me get medication for my established pet who had diarrhea due to being overfed wet dog food? LOL. Know this.. If you have an urgent or non urgent matter, you will be ignored, because they have a "24-48 hour time period to respond to a need"... Or in this case, they have a week to respond.. Take your pets somewhere else, because when they need care at an important time, you don't want to rely on this kind of behavior read more

I definitely recommend this veterinary office. The people here really care about you and your pets. They go above and beyond to make sure they're taken care of and that everything goes as painlessly as possible for them. They are very up front about the costs of procedures and discuss it with you beforehand. They also have a fantastic bedside manner, which is something I appreciate. We were seen by Dr. Hillary Wolfe, their technician Mike Palchus, and the receptionist that day was Kelly Nixon. All of them did a wonderful job, despite the unfortunate circumstances. When my cat Blaze (pics included) got sick very suddenly, they were nice enough to see her immediately. As soon as we got there, they took her back right away, and worked on figuring out what was wrong. Sadly, after doing some tests and taking X-rays, they found out she had an untreatable fatal condition and would need to be put to sleep to prevent her from experiencing anymore pain. As I researched what they'd told me shortly afterward, I found their explanation to be accurate. While it was a sad thing to lose her, everyone was so kind about it. Even though it was kind of late and they were getting ready to close, I was allowed to be alone with her for as long as I wanted beforehand. I also got to hold her during the procedure, which I know made her a lot more comfortable. What really blew me away was when I noticed tears in Dr. Wolfe's eyes when she had to do it. It was the same for Dr. Palchus. They both did everything they could for her. I know that can't be an easy job, but it also really showed that they actually truly do care about their furry little patients a great deal. To all of you who were there that day... Thank you. I feel like the staff here really cares for my pets when they go to this vet. I also, think they do a good job with my pets health diagnosis. Some of their prices can be shell-shocking, but they see themselves as high quality pet care. I'm sure being a vet and trying to please everyone is extremely hard, and I know I am one of those 'hard to please' people, but they did an ok job. I might not love some of their prices, but I do think pretty highly of their services and their care. EDIT: I've been back and unfortunately I felt like I needed to drop my rating some. It's not because of the service, I still assume they do a good job, but because of the prices and the way they try to make you do more to your pet than necessary. This is by far the most expensive vet I've ever visited. They wanted almost a lotfor the basic shots for my dog, dental cleaning was close to insane (there were extractions, but still). Not a bad place, if you have money to burn, however if you are on a budget, this might not be the place for you. read more

I boarded my 2 Dogs, while on Vacation. When I picked them up, they were both horribly sick ... blood in their vomit, bloody diarrhea, they would not eat, drink or sleep. I took them to Sierra Animal Hospital for emergency treatment, and they REFUSED to see us - because I didn't have an appointment!!! How could I have made an appointment, I didn't plan on my Dogs being sick??!! And how can they possible qualify as being a HOSPITAL, when they turn away Pets who need help? You've all been professional, helpful, and compassionate with Bella and Sandi. I recall when Bella had her splenectomy several years ago, Mike (vet tech) brought in his own dog in the event that my sweet old basset needed a transfusion. The surgery was successful and Bella got some extra quality time with us as a result. I also appreciate the kindness and patience with which you treat Sandi, my shy little former stray from the Virgin Islands. Also, I have never gone into shock when I received a bill for services rendered to my furbabies. Your pricing is very reasonable and your estimates have never been very far off. I will have to say it is easily impressive upon looks, very professional, clean, and staff were very kind. But my 1st time here with my 10 year old boxer for check up turned into a $500 visit and with suggested future visit would have been thousands more. They tested my boxer for heart worm after they asked me if she had missed any doses of heart guard... I admit I did, but she is an indoor dog did not display with sympotoms. Once they knew this, they came back with a vague positive test. My heart sank believing this.. They said they would sent out the test for confirmation... they then reviewed the options if she was positive the fast track or slow track. But suggested because of her age she would need liver and kidney function tests, chest xray, and an echocardiogram before treatment... As fur parents we all know that heartworm treatment is costly and long term and is toxic to dogs system...I was prepared to do it all believing this would lengthen my girls life... They played on my emotions...A couple days later I was given the news that she was confirmed positive and a review of what plan would I prefer. I asked how much the plans were and the tech gave an "estimate" based on what past quotes were but was not quite sure how much my girl would be quoted. This had me skeptical... I decided to get a 2nd opinion and went to ACTS... so I was not so surprised when they said she was negative for heartworm... I was relieved, but shocked and upset that Dr. M at Sierra would misdiagnose her for the sake of money, but put my girl's health at risk....how unethical, unscrupulous and down right deceitful...don't be fooled by wolves in sheep's clothing... go with your gut and don't go here. read more

We've been going to see Dr. Sierra and her wonderful team since they moved into their Apollo Beach Blvd location. We love her and most importantly trust her with our most precious "DogDaughter" :-) She is professional, knowledgeable and most importantly treats your pet like it was her own. Her office is extremely clean and her staff on every visit, has made us feel important and offered the best care for our dog. As with any place, when it comes to your pet, there may be a hefty cost. Dr. Sierra offers savings solutions and even Pet Insurance to help in those needs. In the past year our Dog got something of a stomach issue and thanks to Dr. Sierra and her staff, they were able to save her and make her healthy again. Dr. Sierra, always works with you, to find the best possible solution even budget wise to care for your pet. I love how they have a system of acknowledgement with your very own Dog I.D. and they will even keep your Dog's records and give you (no waiting for the mail) new "county" tags once they've gotten their vaccinations. They have great communication, and call to remind you about your appointments, even calling after the appointment to see how your dog is. This is a great business practice that most places just simply don't know to do or haven't the staff and time to do. They also send follow-ups to see how they as an office are performing for your needs. I appreciate the reminders (postcards/email/phonecall or whatever communication style suits you) on when your Dog's next check up is and when their next shots are due. A very sick cat collapsed on my driveway today. Extremely skinny, emaciated and infected injury/injuries. I fed & watered this sweet cat and took it to the first vet I could think of close in Apollo Beach - Sierra Animal Hospital. I have 2 cats/kids at home and could not keep it. To my amazement they would not even look at this poor cat until I paid for a visit, etc. I explained the situation. The cat smelled horrible. They would not even talk to me or scan the animal for a chip. Very sad if you are in the business to help animals. This animal desperately needed help. Sad... But good for Apollo Beach Animal Hospital!! They immediately took us in and gave us help! And yes, the poor baby was microchipped!!! read more

Took my new puppy, Harper, in for her first visit. The staff were very efficient and knowledgable. They were courteous and caring. All my questions were answered by the vet tech Mike. He was patient and clear with all his answers and I had quite a few questions with a new puppy. Dr Wolfe was gentle and caring and was so good to Harper taking the time to distract her with a treat when giving her a shot so she did not even notice. This place is AMAZING. The vets here truly care about your animal and are very accommodating. The staff here is so amazing, they remember your animal and the little things about them that makes the experience so much easier for your pet. My poor dog had kennel cough recently and they were so accommodating and got her in the same day so they could see her and give us meds to go home with to get her feeling better quickly. They have great customer service and are so very nice. The doctors really listen to your concerns, and don't hurry you at all. Wether it's her annual check up or other things that come up they always are great. This place is super clean and very welcoming and my dog always feels comfortable here. I have never written a review for anything in my life, but today's experience with Sierra Animal Hospital has left me not only hurt but disgusted that this is the way a business operates. I have two dogs, both boxers named Rocky and Adrienne. My dogs have been an integral part of my family for several reasons which are not the subject; but the point is I would do anything necessary for their well being. My dog Rocky is one whom demands care at the highest level. He has been unfortunate to have very active allergies that have taken a lot of participation from our former veterinarian, Dr. Sierra, and a lot of money from us. In the two years and seven months we have had Rocky, we have spent close to $10,000 on his care between Dr. Sierra and another veterinarian in North Carolina. The point is we have paid in full to Dr. Sierra a great amount of money and have been loyal enough as customers to even refer friends to her practice. We have always paid for the care rendered to Rocky at the time of service until our request to them today that was denied. On December 13, 2012, my wife took Rocky into Dr. Sierra's practice because of an illness. We were given an initial estimate of $345 for X-Rays and blood work. We were more than willing to pay the $345; however, due to unfortunate timing of everything (my wife is due on December 14th, just opened a new business and remodeling a house) we could only provide half today and promised the other half tomorrow (December 14th). One would assume that after many years of faithful patronage to this business they might realize that the care Rocky was in need of was of more importance than $170, but they would not provide the care to him without full payment. It absolutely disgusts me that a business established with the objective of caring for animals would act this way to an established patient that they have a positive history with. We have never requested to make payments retroactively before, nor have we ever failed to pay what was asked of us. After years of business, for a veterinarian to take our money and then treat us like this over $170 that they were sure to receive just 24 hours later is appalling. It is clear to me today that while Dr. Sierra may have the qualifications to be a veterinarian and may provide great care, her ambition lies more with turning a profit than it does with actually providing care for the members of our family that we care for the way we do. I am a small business owner and I understand there are situations where policy must be in place for my own protection; however, I am also a person and the purpose of my business is to have a meaningful impact on the people who share the community with me. Of course in all business the objective is to make money, but when that becomes the only objective then you remove yourself from the progressive desire communities share. If you love your animals and they are sick, you will do everything you can to make them better. But there are plenty of choices when it comes to veterinarians in the area and I strongly suggest that when you choose who will care for your pet, you select someone that will put their heart into it not someone who disrespects the relationship that you both work to establish. I found a veterinarian that would work with me only a few miles from Sierra Animal Hospital, and I would make the suggestion everyone do the same. read more

I highly recommend Sierra Animal Hospital. Caring vets that talk to you and answer questions honestly, and top notch staff as well, from the person at the desk to the amazing vet techs. Also, services here are reasonably priced, in my opinion, since I have been overcharged in the past. Most of all, Dr. Sierra, Dr. Wolf and their staff saved my 15 year old basset hound's life. My old girl had a mass on her spleen and Dr. Sierra skillfully administered the anesthesia and performed the splenectomy. My dog was back to her normal (well, as normal as a basset can be) behavior in two to three days, which is remarkable for a 15 year old dog. Some vets would not have performed surgery on a geriatric dog, and many others would have charged a great deal more. As it turned out, the mass was not malignant, and our story has a happy ending. I will take any and all of my pets to Sierra Animal Hospital for as long as I live in the area. read more

We took our 9 year old german shepard to Dr. Sierra last summer. Throughout several major health ordeals over six months, and the eventual "putting to rest" our beloved, the vet and staff were always compassionate, caring, helpful, courteous, and loving to our whole family. Dr. Sierra even offers the service of coming to the house for the euthansia at a very reasonable rate which helped to eased the pain of ordeal. I still use the vet for our other dog and recommend her to everyone I know. She is also more financially reasonable than other vets in the area. read more
