We live in Herndon and had our front yard landscaped by Meadows Farm. Jake Reed, the designer, did a great job, listening to our needs and planning well. The installation team was in and out in two days, transforming our yard- we love it! Since the installation a few weeks ago, we have been back to Meadows a few times to buy more plants to add. As a landscaper, I would advise against their topsoil and leaf compost. The load I received was very clay-heavy and contained rocks and bits of tile, which doesn't look good in a client's garden and isn't ideal for plant health. Fixing it will add extra cost for me. Meadows suggested I check the soil in person before delivery, which makes sense, but isn't realistic since I manage multiple jobs. Their hardwood mulch remains decent quality, and I still recommend it. read more

I wanted to get some herbs to fill my patio and kitchen, and stopped by Meadow Farms to check out all the plants available too! I saw that they have one of the largest selections and was intrigued.. Lots of options available here! Prices are decent, maybe not the cheapest. Herbs are $3.99a pot. If I had a nice big garden outside Id be grabbing a tree too. My only wish was that there were more planters and pots too choose from. Many of the smaller sizes were sold out and the selection isnt as big as Id like. Just got off the phone with this store while waiting 3 cycles of the stop light to let them know that the stop light doesn't turn to let you exit their place. They seem to know this and shift blame to VA DOT. As a business person, I'd be raising holy hell with VA DOT, but they seem unconcerned. Great....its not their time wasted, about which they also seem relatively unconcerned. So if you have time to waste, this is a great place to come. Just be forewarned that you'll need to turn right coming out of the place because the light will not turn for you to go left or straight. read more

I think the last time I was at a Meadows Farm location was maybe when I was in elementary school. But alas with the new abode and a poor shrub that is almost dead, I wanted to find a small shrub replacement. I thought I'd go to a legitimate nursery versus my usual stop at one of the big chain stores. This location is right at Reston Pkwy and Rt. 7 there's another location also right off 7 at Springvale Rd. so just FYI. At any rate, I didn't commit to buying anything 1. because I had my husband's car and I didn't want him to complain about stuff being dirty in his car, and 2. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. If you haven't been before Meadows Farms in general are kinda basic, you park, grab a garden cart, pay and you're off. This location does have pretty ample parking so that is a big plus and the lot is paved. Walking around there's a huge selection of stuff, perennials, annuals, trees, and bushes, there's a green house area too, but they didn't have too much in there as its towards the end of the season, so I'm sure they're not necessarily trying to restock. Price wise surprising they were just as good if not better than the big box retailers. The other advantage it was pretty easy to know the plant and the price which is one of my biggest annoyances with their competitors. Although I didn't buy anything I'll be back hopefully with the husband to help me pick. Oh one other thing, as you're outside just be prepared for that with your footwear, there were a few spots there that were a little slippery as there wasn't as much gravel on the ground to give you traction. Update: We returned, this time I brought the husband and we settled on some slow growing shrubs. Also just FYI inside where the cashier is they have bulbs, also they allow leashed dogs. Today I was reminded yet again why I buy my annual beautiful flowers from Meadows Farms on Route 7 in Arlington. Last year, I worked with the fabulous AVA who today was able to get me started but had to also run the fun "Make A Gift For Mother" Mother's Day event at which children were able to create flower pictures for the Moms. (Such a fun idea!) Since Ava could not help me complete my Spring flowers purchase, I went off to try and do it by myself but, alas, I am not skilled in "which for sun?" "which for shade?: "how tall will this grow?" "how wide does this get?" etc etc etc. Lucky me! I happened to be browsing in the section where the Amazing Vicky was doing some work. She let me know this was her second season working for the Seven Corners location and shared how much she loved her job. I can see why! And I can see why Meadows Farms wanted her back. This wonderful woman not only helped coordinate colors that would go great together but, importantly, took time to learn about my planned placement of my flowers so that she could advise on which types to put where -- according to Height they would soon reach -- to ensure the aesthetic look was just perfect. OH! Very importantly in this rough economy, Vicky amazingly helped me to keep to my budget! I got more than enough gorgeous flowers to cover all of the two areas in which I wanted to put flowers. And then this kind woman wheeled the loaded cart to the SUV and told me "no, You just guard the cart from rolling away" while SHE did every bit of the loading! I tried to help and apparently I was just to enjoy the above and beyond service! I got home at 4:30 and since it was to rain this evening, I hustled to do all the planting and finished just before the skies opened. Thanks to Vicky, Ava and Meadows Farms (home to very high quality flowers and plants (and also garden pots and other accessories of course)), my home's exterior is gorgeous, flower-laden, warm and welcoming. If you are looking for not only the best flowers but also the Best Service as you kick off you Spring gardening, I don't think you can find a better company than Meadows Farms! read more

This is a horrible business. I've gone there several times over the years and tolerated their not so great customer service and products but today will be my last visit to this place. Their customer service is atrocious. I went to pick up plants for my landscaping and needed help loading some of the heavier ones into my car. I can honestly say not one person was willing to help. I asked a woman for help who never even looked up from watering, I asked the cashier who said "someone's out there to help" and blew me off, went outside and asked again and was told there's someone there. I asked a guy who was standing where it said "pickup" to help me load and as he sipped on his water he said well not at the moment I can't. I am pretty low maintenance and don't expect much customer service but I will never go back to this place again. read more

Got a pop up ad on Facebook or an email offering a soil test kit and results discussion/consult with Meadows Farms, so I thought I'd try it. Kit arrived in only a couple of days and I collected samples and sent back the same day. Three or four days passed when I got notification the results were in. Instructions said to go to any MFs Nurseries to get results. Went to the Rt. 7/Great Falls location. First couple of employees I asked didn't know what I was talking about but they checked and put me in touch with another employee. He asked my name and came back and handed me three sheets of paper (printed with very faded printer ink) and said the instructions are on pg. 2 & 3. The results were detailed, but offered little in the way of education or instruction. Portions of the instructions were also cut off from the printer and incomplete. Obviously the first employee didn't even look at the pages to make sure they printed correctly. I also thought the employee would give more instruction and explanation on how to address the soil problems. When I went to look for the employee I found another employee who said he could help me. The second employee informed me this was the first year they were offering that service and they were still working the bugs out. Ok, reasonable explanation. I'll accept that. As was waiting for him to finish what he was doing the first employee came into the office. The 2nd employee informed the first that the results and instructions did not print out correctly. The second employee, talking as if I wasn't even in the room, said he thought it was a stupid idea anyway. Not exactly what an employer would want to hear from their employees while trying to sell their products and services........and especially not in front of their customers. Well.....I probably won't go back to Meadows Farms again or get my soil tested there again either. Merrifield Garden Center is much closer, at least twice the size with twice the services and help offered. read more

We had Meadowfarms come to our house for a consultation. The consultant gave us her opinion and a design for hardscape and landscape, while totally ignoring our budget. When we provided recommendations for changes to what the consultant designed, she ignored our ideas and would only do it the way she designed. Charging $50 for a consultation where your customer has little to no say is ridiculous. 2 weeks later, I called back and expressed interest in doing business if they could accommodate some of our ideas, to which I got screamed at on the phone, and was told they were unwilling to accommodate me because I got a quote from another Company. I always buy from this location and a month ago I bought 6 shrubs worth of $210 one of them died in a week. I did not even plant it. I took the dead plant to the Nursery off Route 7 and I didn't have the receipt with me. The tag was still on the plant and shows the name Meadows on it. One of the workers insisted I have a receipt to exchange or refund. I asked him to scan the tag and it shows when it was purchased, he said it is impossible to scan and recover the purchase date. I asked him to look in the system the date it was purchased and nothing, He didn't care at all. I left the dead plant with him and left. Very unprofessional and will never buy from that location. Meadows Farms has been helping me for 10 years. They have done patio work, stone wall work and they helped me dig a large trench at my house. They have a fantastic landscape architect named Hugh, he has an eye and passion for his work. Backed by a good selection of crews if you're doing any stone work, this is the company to hire. Like any company mistakes happen. But rest assured they will do what they can to remedy the situation. My wife and I went to visit this nursery this week and it definitely offered a variety of plants. My disappointment was seeing so many of the employees and a cashier not wearing a mask. Eventually she did put one on, but I was not pleased! I was happy to see other customers taking the pandemic serious, but to see employees not wearing a mask was a massive disappointment. They even stayed past closing since I arrived late. Pricing was rather reasonable--- for soil, pot, and plant, it only came out to $20 total! I had problems with the initial deck built by Meadows Farms. After some back and forth with the company I was contacted and was provided an apology. The apology from the owner himself was completely genuine. The problems with the construction were corrected in August 2015 at no additional charge. The new parts of the deck that were replaced were done very well and there is no indication that there will be any problems with this deck. Overall, I am very pleased with the ownership of this issue by Meadows Farms. A mistake was made, they owned it and corrected it. The phone call apology shows a lot of class. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star for this update is because I will have to re-strain the new wood, but I will happily do this if it means that the pickets on the deck are now evenly spaced and the other problems such as the step are no longer present. Based on the eventual fix to this issue provided by Meadows Farms I would recommend this company to those who are looking to have a deck built or any other hardscaping done. They do quality work and in the case that they make a mistake I believe they would rectify the issue. read more

We have bought many plants, Christmas trees and even had a garden designed by meadows farm nursery. Last year we bought 4 trees and had meadows farm plant them, because they "guarantee" the tree for life. One of the trees died, we asked them to replace it with the same type tree, they told us the tree is free but labor will be the cost of the tree, which is absurd. If you guarantee a tree for life, you can't change me the price of the tree for labor, labor is a fixed cost and shouldn't vary by price of the tree. The "fine print" on their guarantee has this in there, but no one will tell you when you purchase a tree that it will cost you the same price as new one to replace it. My suggestion is find a cheaper place for your trees or plants and plant them yourself, they'll be half the price, and if one dies you can replace it for cheaper than getting a "free" tree at meadows farms. read more

Downgrading from a wonderful rating in the past to one more reflective of the service decline that I experienced this year. We called in FEBRUARY to schedule some plantings and mulching. The job was done yesterday, ALMOST 4 MONTHS LATER!!! Not sure if it was because we needed a replacement of a "lifetime guaranteed" plant or if our job wasn't big enough. But they just weren't interested in my business. The experience was awful. Our "designer" took weeks to call us back. Then I called 5 times to find out what was going on, only to be finally told that my date was a month out. Of course, my deposit was taken from my account immediately though. Then I was called a few days before the schedule to ask if they could come earlier. I said no as we had plans for that day (a Saturday). But they showed up anyway. Absolutely pathetic how they handled customer service. Is this their new normal? You can bet I will drive the few extra miles to someone who knows how to treat their customers from now on. read more

Meadows Farms has a huge selection of plants. I like the perennials as they are arranged alphabetically by Latin name. Merrifield arranges them this way also. It makes it easy to find what you are looking for. Meadows Farms has great sales on their plants. I am on their email ad list and use it religiously, finding bargains and savings every week. Pretty soon I am going to run out of space for plantings! Five years ago they landscaped my backyard. It looks great and I have received many compliments. One tree died (believe I used too much Round-up on the weeds near it) but they replaced it with no questions asked. read more

The customer service is absolute garbage and the manager "Jessica" is literally yelling at employees and telling them specific customers are stupid right in front of other customers. We we're long time customers but never again. We came in looking for a specific plant and were brought from one person to the other for over 45 mins. I made an appointment for the landscaping design service. I don't know if the person they sent was inept or flat out rude. He could not speak to hardscape design. There were a couple large shrubs that I wanted removed and he told me to get a friend help me take them out. He trampled over the plants I have, said my plants were old and that I needed all new plants because "we're in the business of selling plants." In terms of design he suggested moving a Japanese maple under a cherry tree so it got more shade. Who puts a tree under a tree? In a nutshell they didn't send a designer....they sent a very bad plant salesperson. I have been going to Meadows Farms for years but after this experience I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This is strictly for Christmas trees. Good selection, but for some reason this location lacks a hole drill which is pretty much a must if you're getting a large tree and have a stand with a spike -- which this location most certainly sells. Every year, I've asked them to get one, and every year they don't. The Meadows Farm location in Great Falls has one and they'll drill the hole if you bring your tree and receipt to them, but that's unfair to that location. I've been going to the Great Falls location for years strictly because of this but this year, they didn't have a tree my wife liked so we got it from this location, then back to Great Falls to have it drilled. I'll raise this score if I hear a tree drill is now in service at this location. read more

I purchased 12 trees from Meadows farms and had them install them. Two are still alive. All were planted incorrectly! Five died because the root balls were half in the ground - Half above. They were not planted deep enough. The last died because it was not properly staked! I would not purchase any more trees from them. They do not have a clue how to plant a tree! read more

Meadows farms has the worst customer service! They may do good work initially but if you need any replacements for hardscapping your out of luck. Melissa in the hardscapping department is very rude and can't handle a question, looking up something, scheduling, returning calls in an appropriate amount of time or being polite. Melissa told me the day they would come to do work, a Monday (a workday!) -- no other options! and because I wanted to pay by check she said I had to be home or they would not do the work. When I called back, Chad, her manager, said normally I wouldn't have to be home if I left a check. Why would anyone employ that woman? and especially for interacting with customers! read more
