I would like to make a strong recommendation for Ed Rodrigues of Greenworks Landscaping. Attached you can see the pictures of how my driveway turned out with Ed as the sales guy, job foreman, and head stone mason. What the pictures don't say however, are all of the little nuances and seams that Ed successfully trouble shot along the way. In a word, it was complicated! In the end, the project turned out to be visually stunning and flawlessly executed. He built one retaining wall from scratch along a stretch of land with significantly changing elevation and seamlessly extended another that was in great shape; but you'd never know from looking at it that it was extended. Perhaps most importantly, my project had some quirky drainage challenges bc it is a legacy home in a hilly area. I'm not exaggerating when I say when we get a heavy rain, it doesn't matter where the water lands. It all goes right to the drain! I attribute this to the fact that Ed set up the elevation strings to retest the pitching at multiple stages in the project. Almost compulsively--which is what you want in a contractor! Lastly, Ed and his team showed up literally every weather permitting week day from the day they started until the day they finished. The communication was excellent and I felt like we were on a team together to trouble shoot the structural and visual nuances of the project. Wonderful garden center! We bought our Christmas tree there yesterday! The staff is super friendly and the trees are hung on string so you can really see them easily from all sides! We had gone to Middleburg Christmas tree farm first and couldn't find anything and we so thankful we stopped on the way home here - we will return next year! read more

We spent our visit walking around the nursery with Gerald, a local who was very knowledgeable about trees that have large canopies, are native to the area, and would make good climbing trees for young children (we got rather specific with our requests). Gerald knew the answer to all of our weird questions, like the advisability of excavating an oak that's doing just fine but has a terrible personality, or how best to resuscitate a cutleaf maple that was planted by someone with a horticultural grudge. Gerald obviously took joy in cultivating happy trees and helping other people do the same. We couldn't decide between two beautiful specimens, so he recommended we tag them both and think it over (they do holds for two weeks at no charge). Polly at the counter was equally delightful, and didn't even make fun of my awful American Gothic joke as she rang up our pitchfork. We'll definitely be sticking with Greenworks as long as these fine people are helping run the show. Thanks for an awesome afternoon! read more

I love their selection options normally. Wish they had more proven winners grasses, coleus color blaze and hardy ferns. However, they are AWEFUL to get ahold of on the phone to check stock. They also appear to not be open to the public since April (per their sign). I've been calling since, leaving messages and still no return call to verify. Eh, I didn't really care for this place. I called several times beforehand to see if they had what I might be looking for - never got an answer. Decided to drop by anyway since it was on my way and there were several employees and maybe 3 other customers. Why didn't anyone answer the phone?! No one stopped to help me or even tried to assist me. Not one smiling face! Passed by several employees and all of them had RBF. What's with this place, are you guys all in a bad mood? Do you hate your jobs? I was ready to throw some $$$ but decided not to give them my money since no one even tried to help. The plants were also pricey. Came in because the big sign out front said they were open to the public for a fall plant sale. I guess it just meant that the plants were "for sale to the public" rather than on sale. That aside, I tried to get the attention of several employees who walked past me, and then the one person who did try to help had to get someone else and wasn't very helpful at all. Areas are not well marked and you're pretty much in your own to find what you're looking for. Don't waste your time here- they only seem to want contractors. Spend your money at Merrifield Garden Center instead. read more

These people are confused! I went there last week to confirm they were open to the general public. The lady near the front told me that they were open to retail customers every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I called them 3 days later and this information was confirmed. I went there on Wednesday, October 14th and the gate was closed. I saw the same lady I spoke to just a week ago and asked if they were open. She replied "Only to contractors." I reminded her of what she told me last week, and what I had confirmed via my phone call. She replied, "sorry about that." I just now went onto their website and a coupon for retail consumers pops up. WTH? read more

I got my tree and wreath here again this year. When I showed up it was about 7:30am on a weekend and the guy assisting me was so helpful! I picked out my wreath and tree, and he even steered me to a slightly cheaper tree that was barely shorter than the one I was originally looking at. I backed my car up, threw the seats down and the tree he suggested was a perfect fit for the ride home. He trimmed the bottom of my tree, wrapped it in netting and even found plastic to put on the floor of my trunk to protect it a bit. The tree and wreath 2 weeks later are still looking green and lush! read more

This place is great. Parking is easy, and their selection is the best in the area. Prices are Good! Wish there was more room between plants in the aisle for carts. Had difficulty taking cart down certain selections. Staff VERY Helpful the several times I have gone. All my plants are still living! read more

What a terrific nursery! All the employees at this company are friendly, knowledgeable and the plant selections are wonderful. Special thanks go to Polly who patiently helped me pick out all my plants (and made great selections along the way), to Serena who kindly changed my work order (twice), and Linda from the design shop who made a landscaping plan that I love. All their plants are healthy and well-cared for and the property goes on forever with beautiful trees, bushes, annuals, perennials, mulch, etc. My gardener made the referral and this really is a must for anyone who needs a few plants up to full landscaping services. Greenworks did a project for our next-door neighbors. They cut tree roots of several trees on our side of the property line, causing several to lean and one to completely fall over. We asked the crew several times to be careful. Additionally, the company failed to tell our neighbors that the project needed a fence to meet code. Greenworks insisted it did not, but had to come put one up when the county, indeed, confirmed that one was needed. No attention to detail. Sure that we were wrong when we called to ask questions. Obviously tried to do this project on the cheap. Ironically, "Greenworks" killed some green. read more

Greenworks doesn't just sell what sells, rather they truly make an effort to get gardeners and property owners to plant what's right for their situation. I found what I believe to be the best variety of hardy, aromatic, deer-resistant, butterfly attracting plant species available in the area. Also a very knowledgeable, experienced and outgoing staff. Knowledgeable and friendly service by one of the owners. Don't be turned off because they don't answer the phone. They are out taking care of plants and customers. Go by- walk the grounds, and pick out an entire landscape design. I did!!! Beautiful plants even at this late date. They are getting in lots of cool weather pansies, so I will be back next week to get those too. We also used them about 5 years ago and all of the plants were healthy. read more

They have a nice plant selection...but don't buy mulch or dirt there. We were hoping to pay a little more to get better quality, but unfortunately that was not the case. The bagged mulch and dirt had disease all over it. White fungus grew all over. We compared to sections of our garden we bought from Home Depot...and Home Depot had zero fungus. Very disappointing since we spent double the price. read more

They have some very unique plants, not like the big box stores. Extremely knowledgable staff. Sure they're a little quirky, but they know their stuff. Prices are a bit high, but again, great selection, very healthy plants. read more

I have been shopping here when I need landscaping material, but that may end based on recent experiences. I went a couple of days ago to buy a tree, and there were only a few customers there, but many employees walking around. I asked the first one I found for help and he refused and told me to walk back to the office for help. I thought this was odd, but I proceeded to the office, asked one of the two employees for help, who told me he could only point me in the right direction. This was not helpful at all, and I ended up asking two other employees and neither would help me. I was trying to purchase a crepe myrtle and spend my money there yet no one would help me! I left in frustration without my tree. I gave it a few hours, went back, still without help I was able to find many crepe myrtles on my own after searching their grounds, then had problems with the checkout. It should not be difficult to purchase something. Something is wrong here. This nursery had been great with customer service a year ago - something has changed this season, and not for the good. Greenworks was a great company to work with, We had a patio and retaining wall installed with some plantings, Everyone we interacted with from the designer to the Workers was very kind. I was amazed at how fast the work went to in 4 days we had a 600sqft patio and a beautiful drystack wall. we have to tackle the front of the house next and i will definitely be calling them back read more
