Meadowsweet Ranch Wow! I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the program at Meadowsweet Ranch. I live over an hour away from Spring Grove, yet made the journey for my daughter who is an avid horse lover. She recently went for Spring Camp, and while it was only two days, she met other campers who have the same passion as her HORSES. She told me the day we left, "Mom hurry up! You need to sign me up for the summer before it is full!" She enjoyed riding, grooming and especially cleaning the hooves of the horses. I have always told her that riding a horse is a privilege and not a right. Horses need to be respected and that was fully reinforced at Meadowsweet Ranch. The safety of the children is priority, which is why the HORSE comes first. Crafts and activities planned with the other campers were appropriate, and the ranch feel is definitely welcoming. My only request is that I would have liked more feedback on the day of the camp to know what my daughter did that day. I guess no news is good news! Most importantly for me is that she LOVED it and we will definitely be back for on of the 3 summer sessions. read more

My daughter Avery has attended the Winter Break Camp and just completed the Spring Horse Camp. She absolutely loved it! She talked about how much fun she has had and how much she has learned. She has been wanting to spend more time with the horses at the ranch. So we may have to sign her up for more lessons :) The staff & counselors are so kind, friendly, and wonderful! Sloane had so much fun at her first time at pony camp! We would definitely attend again and in her own words 'I had so much fun riding the pony and making crafts with new friends!'. I started off here taking lessons about 10 years ago, after a long break from riding. I'm still taking lessons, but now on my own horse. Kathy helped me to fulfill a lifelong dream to own a horse, by helping me to be a better rider and know more about horses in general. I love that we can ride on the 8 miles of Chain O Lakes trails without having to trailer there from the ranch. There are also barn events, such as drill team, barn trips, trail rides, game days, and working equitation. Lesson horses can be used for these events if you are a student and don't have your own horse. Meadowsweet Ranch (MSR) has some great features for boarding your horse, including great turnout, from morning to dusk, weather permitting. The Chain O'Lakes riding trails are literally steps away from the facility, easy to get to, and a blast to ride. MSR is also a "no drama" barn--the boarders are all awesome horse people! There is a super, large indoor arena, that is uncrowded with a charming club room to boot. So, come join some great horse people and ride! read more

I have boarded at and visited my share of farms. I looked for a place near Chicago, and notwithstanding the one hour trip to the farm, this place is everything a rider could want---incredibly great horse care, smart managers who know horses and willingly share their knowledge and an absolutely fabulous and welcoming group of riders. I took my 8 year old daughter for a 2 hour lesson and we had such a great time. the owner, Kathy, made us feel comfortable immediately. My daughter was able to pick her own pony and Kathy matched me with a great horse. Both Kathy and Erin were extremely kind and knowledgeable. We learned how to groom our horses, how to prepare the horses for riding, how to keep balance, and how to communicate. It was a great experience and we can't wait to go back again. read more
