Even during the homeless days with the Capitol Hill and U District tweens with patchwork jackets and dogs mobbing around in packs this theatre was in good condition. I have over 20 years of memories coming here watching indie movies like Pirana, docuseries to Siff films. I also watched plenty of blockbuster films. My fondest memory is the smell of the popcorn that fills the front space. It is so distinct and the melted butter and grease on my fingers rubbed on my movie ticket is nostalgic. I love the indie vibe of the workers. It was a polite Seattle cool, depending on the era a little emo and punk, with some grunge. The attitude was very U District. I hope this theatre can raise the funds to fix itself up. It is one of my favorites and I hope it doesn't get boarded up. It still has so much life left.

At this point it felt like it's mostly dependent on personal preference so I decided to go in and find out. I thought the place is decent. The biggest attraction is that tickets are probably the cheapest in the area. Regular ticket price is around $16 for Seattle but it's $10 at Varsity (as of December 2023). And you get a dollar off if you're a student. Also you don't even have to buy the student tickets in person because you could just order them online (other places like AMC downtown, you have to go in person). I made sure to bring my student ID in case if they want to check, but it was never checked onsite. I think it's a little more shabby than AMC and other more commercial theaters, but it does its job. The movie started on time and there were no issue throughout the movie. I wish they could just shut off the ads before the screen turns on at starting time because you're facing a blue screen that shows nothing while the ad is blasting. On the other hand, I liked that there aren't that many previews to watch through to get to the actual movie I came to see. The bathroom is two flights up the stairs from the ground floor. It's well kept and smells ok, but they probably have to check the toilet paper inventory more often. By the time I went in, there were no toilet paper left at all so I didn't forget to inform the staff that before leaving. The staff was polite and accepted my remarks in good spirit.

A few years ago, a friend introduced me to this parody play -- and now it's officially part of my holiday tradition. I come back year-over-year because each production is different, clever, and full of new surprises. This year's version was one of the best yet: Upgraded set pieces, including a tall wall with TWO vents and working doors Smartly updated jokes and swapped-out 80s references Fresh additions to the villain list (shoutout to Huey Lewis & The News and Vidal Sassoon) And a perfect recreation of the iconic vent scene where McClane mutters: "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..." followed by "Now I know what a TV dinner feels like." This was my 3rd time, my friend Mary R's "don't ask how many," and my sister's very first time. The show was hilarious and high-energy -- but honestly, the best part was watching WCP react to it for the first time. Pure holiday magic. Seattle Public Theater nails the humor, nostalgia, and chaotic joy of Die Hard while giving audiences something new every December. If you love the movie, love parody, or just want a holiday show that's totally different from the usual lineup, go see this. Highly recommended. Yippee-Ki-Yay, Seattle.

Last year Steve and I heard about the stage production of A Very Die Hard Christmas. It's a parody…read moreof the movie Die Hard and how it is now preceived in more recent years to being a Christmas movie. We really wanted to go but alas it was sold out. But we were lucky to find it having dates this year and Steve seized the opportunity right away as far as tickets go. The Seattle Public Theater is a pretty small theater and lobby but the setting for it is great as all the shows would be intimate and the fact that the theater is right by Green Lake adds a scenic perk to the experience. The show was great and really funny! Very well organized and acted and it proved to be a very entertaining night for our first visit to Seattle Public Theater!

I didn't receive any notification about the time change and arrived 10 minutes early to the time listed on my ticket and 20 minutes late to the show. I wasn't ushered in to the performance hall with any sort of direction, there was no acknowledgement of the mixup, I stood (in platform heels) for the entire show in front of a door and with a partially obstructed view, had to leave fairly unceremoniously due to the late show they squeezed in afterwards (presumably to sell more tickets) and to top things off they didn't have sparkling water when I tried to order it after the show, which is less annoying but was the cherry on top. Don't book with them.

This made the afternoon so much easier and more manageable for the parents. The setup and cleanup was all simple and taken care of, and the house was completely mess-free at the end. I was able to relax and actually chat with the other parents. The only thing I had to think about was the cake. Multiple parents told me it was the best kid birthday party they had seen. Most importantly, my daughter was over the moon. I highly recommend Sylvan for a magical, easy party!
