Went here for the first time yesterday and was so glad I did! Really cute shop with plenty of prepared foods (salads, pasta salad, potato salad, etc.), snacks, and baked goods. The store was clean and spacious. Plenty of good looking sausages and meats to bring home for cooking, but I came to grab some lunch. I got the prosciutto lovers and was happy with my choice. The bread was soft and a good texture. The sandwich had prosciutto, fresh mozz, basil leaves, tomatoes, and was seasoned with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. Was it the most amazing sandwich I'd ever tasted? Nah, it was standard, but for less than $13 for a sandwich that was longer than my forearm, it was a fantastic deal. Service was speedy and the two folks who helped me out were friendly. There were two people in front of me, but I was in and out in about 5 minutes. My relationship with Idris at the Meat Spot was born out of friendly banter about food and a need to become friends with a reputable butcher. It is not the lack of familiarity with butchery (which I have a lot of experience with) but the better access to higher quality meats and very specific cuts. This we spoke of, this we laughed about, and a simple friendship started. He is a *very* nice individual and truly genuine to all his customers as far as I've observed each time I visit. He learns each one and responds in a unique way to them. With me, it came down to the meats. First time, I simply told him that I wanted to grill chicken and wanted to taste his take on it. He grabbed a pack of chicken leg quarters from the display case and said he'd be right back. About 5 minutes later, I received 6 massive butterflied legs exposing bone and seasoned heavily to be ready for the grill in an hour. He pulled up one of his house cured sausages to go together with the chicken. His smile in the moment sold it. Hours later, I'll just say that his take on it all was worth the visit and more after. I'm a fan and I really like the ability to order specialty cuts if I called first. I like that I can walk in and ask for something not in the display box that if he has the ingredient, would churn out in an instant (ask for really lean ground lamb and he did that on the spot). I like that he remembers people and treats them in a genuine manner every time. I love that everything is fresh and that the prices are really reasonable. Ummmm omg. Meat Spot is so great! A deli and European grocery store, it has a lot of authentic charm and groceries you won't see at a typical store. The folks behind the counter are sweet and accommodating. Most importantly, THE FOOD!!! We have the turkey blue cheese, the prosciutto lover, and the corned beef. Yum across the board, but the prosciutto was exceptional. The prices, especially for the quality and quantity, are much better than a typical sub shop ($8.50 for a sandwich in this neighborhood is straight up cheap these days and I could only finish half because it was so big!). This place has been on my list for quite a while. The bread is really fresh, which adds to the overall experience of the sandwich. They have Boars Head deli meats which automatically means the quality is top notch. I ordered a Roast Beef sandwich with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo. It was really delicious. I did also order a Greek salad wrap to save for later. It wasn't as good as the roast beef, and it didn't help that I didn't eat it right away. They have alot of other niche products like an Italian deli from where I grew up in NY. The have a good selection of random beverages too, plus some premade salads to go with your sandwich. Various sodas and some European chocolates make me their candy section. The list of specialty sandwiches is pretty varied. You can do Italian cold cuts, turkey, veggie wraps, etc. They have all the condiments you could want and a variety of things like olives and peppers to add some more flavor to the sandwich. There is no seating so you're going to be getting the sandwich to go. I don't know many other spots in Watertown for a good Italian deli sandwich. I was in area . Yelps reviews look years old but were positive. I was starting for a safe option ham and cheese sub then she mentioned chicken parm special ... So chicken parm ... I saw her take a cold cutlet from deli case , put in microwave, then , chopped up in cubes , put 3 small slices provolone on a 7-8 sub roll then stack the chicken parm cubes and spoon added some microwaved tomato sauce... at this point I felt a mistake venturing for this. Now to evaluate, sub roll was small to medium elsewhere, but roll was fresh and tasted homemade with nice chew... Cubed chicken parm was cold, placed on cold cheese that wasn't melted... chicken parm had decent flavor but a patty shape better than cubed... the tomato mixture was surprisingly good with real tomato pieces and sauce... I suggest a toaster oven vs the microwave... Sub set me back 12 bucks... steep for size... if it was hold with melting cheese oozing all other my cubed parm, a garlic oil , an oregano shake on roll or pesto, parsley or something... I'm would not go back unless I order an Italian or ham and Swiss . Was a 10 bucks sub size I prefer a nice hot toasted chicken or veal parm dripping in melted provolone or Italian 4 cheeses of Parmesan cheese, mozzarella, Asiago, provolone with a garlic hit and hot meat, sauce...parking was difficult and parking in Verizon lot with sign that said lot is security camera monitored, and if you walk out of lot you will be towed... I've lived in Watertown for over ten years, and it was my first time getting a sandwich from here! I'm not big on sandwiches and bread, but every once in a while I crave a good one. I got the Meat Spot special which is turkey and ham with feta, Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and Italian/Greek dressing (?). The meat is Boar's Head and the toppings were very fresh. For the most part, I enjoyed it. The only thing that was disappointing was the bread. If I'm already paying close to $10 for a sandwich, I expect better bread. I wouldn't mind paying a little more if they used higher quality bread. I noticed they also do hot sandwiches, like chicken parmesan and meatball subs, which are more fitting for the heavy sub bread that is used here. read more

I came for exactly what I wanted! A delicious breakfast sandwich! Waking in, it didn't seem like they made breakfast sandwiches, but I'm happy I asked. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a sesame bagel. I had to ask for my bagel to be toasted and it seemed like they didn't have a lot of bagel options (I wanted an everything bagel). Regardless my sandwich was delicious and a little hot - I should of waited for it to cool down, but it was so good! Nested pretty much in Watertown Square, right across the street from the Staples and CVS, the Meat Spot is pretty much a blessing. And despite not having a private parking lot, only street parking, I've made my way there for a quick, affordable and delicious lunch during my break while at work. Made my way other there with co-worker from Allston and let me tell you, it was worth every mile we drove. We made our way in around 12:30PM and despite a bit of a line, we knew immediately that it would be worth it. Upon entering, the delicious smells of cold cuts and bread invaded my nostrils and I salivated as I gazed at the counters that lay in front of me. Behind the glass of the counters was all kinds of delicious looking meats, each ready to be sliced to order. There was also some chicken salad, tuna salad, some roast beef and various other things. Opposite the counter, against the wall were a bunch of fridges packed with just about every drink imaginable. From Orangina and Diet Coke to fancy lemonade and root beer. The selection was a bit overwhelming. Oh and did I mention the freshly baked goods? The brownies, banana nut bread slices and the cookies? But the health conscious can rest assured, there's also fruit, salads and even yogurt. And don't even get me started on the various convenience items that they carry as well: coffee, pasta and all kinds of other random food items, most of them of pretty high quality. But going back to my story, we were in line for only a few moments before a friendly staff member took our orders and made the sandwiches to order. I decided to get the turkey and blue cheese which came with some lettuce, tomato and a balsamic-based dressing. The blue cheese wasn't actually blue cheese dressing but instead was blue cheese crumbles. It was a-m-a-z-i-n-g and best of all, affordable at under eight bucks. The bread was great as well. All in all, this place is a hit and I marveled at the selection of sandwiches on the blackboard behind the counter - and cannot wait to return and try them all! Seriously, this place is divine. On a side note though, if you intend to pay by card, there is however a $10 minimum. But if you haven't hit $10 with your sandwich, rest assured, there's a ton of goodies that you can pickup to easily reach that minimum. read more

Prosciutto lover -- prosciutto is cut so thin, it literally melts in your mouth. No joke! People throw that term around like it's nobody's business, but I'm dead serious. That sandwich was undoubtedly one of the greats in my life. Hot Pastrami Sandwich -- also very, very good. The boyfriend ate most of it, but of the bite I had, I can say pastrami is still the reigning champion of deli meats for me. Service -- out of this world. The guys are exactly what you'd want in your local deli guys. They're extremely friendly, will talk to you about basically anything, and really don't mind getting in your business and joking around. It was as good going down as it looks in the picture. My company just moved into Watertown Center so I plan on being a frequent visitor to The Meat Spot ! The only negative thing I can say (and I hope they fix this soon) is that there are no take out menus. My company recently wanted to pick up lunch there but they had no menu besides what was on the blackboard @ the shop. This place was recommended to me by a co-worker whose cousins own the place. I realized she was actually saying the name was "Meat Spot" and spun on my heels in that direction. Well. I ordered the "Meat Spot's Special" which was three Italian cold cut meats with all the fixings. Even though I was only in here 5 minutes I received a nice big sandwich with freshly sliced ingredients. The price tipped the scale a little at $7, but for such an excellent sandwich I am more than willing to pay. The nicest touches were the chopped olives and the added sauce I don't know/care the origins of.
