We like and recommend this place. I don't get some of the strongly negative reviews -- the place I experience is nothing like what those reviewers say. Maybe it has changed ownership? The woman who usually takes orders smiles and now recognizes me. Everything I have tried has been good: the bagel and lox sandwich, the avocado toast, the "Scharf Attack", "Hot Frah" and Chicken Salad Club sandwiches, a burger, and a salad with grilled chicken. This place is "eats," not "cuisine" -- their Michelin star isn't arriving any time soon. But the produce has been fresh, the grilled items are hot and not greasy. Their menu is extensive -- Russian novels are only a tad longer. But that means they cover all the bases -- breakfast, sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, pizza -- I'm leaving things out. There's plenty of parking and plenty of seating. Can you find better? Yeah, sure. There is nothing boutique-y or artisanal about their food, but it's solid and has not disappointed us in the year we've been going there. Ordered delivery takeaway on a Sunday through Grub Hub. Ordered their spicy curly fries and the large Meat Lover's pizza. Total came out to a little over $25, but under $30. By the time we received our food, it was about 1 hour later. What's Hot - Portions. A large pizza came out to 8 slices and was a good size. The curly fries were in a Chinese takeaway container, in its own paper bag. Definitely enough to share and split between two people. Hubby and I were full at the end of the meal. - Quality. The pizza and fries were pretty yummy, despite the fact that the spicy curly fries weren't actually spicy. Their crust was slightly crispy and held up well under the toppings. Our food was cold by the time it was delivered, so we reheated the pizza and fries in the oven before we ate it. Once we reheated the pizza in our oven, the pizza and fries were delicious. - Packaging. The food held up pretty well in it's packaging, but it was cold by the time they delivered it. - Price. The large meat lover's pizza came out to around $19 and the spicy curly fries are around $6. For the portions that we get for the price we paid, it's pretty good. What's Not - Spicy curly fries were not spicy. If there is one thing I am definitely not a fan of, it is not advertising properly. If the menu says an item is spicy, I expect it to be spicy. If the fries were spicy, but not spicy enough, that is another issue. Unfortunately, their spicy fries were not at all spicy. If they were mildly spicy, hubby and I would have been happy with that, bu they were not spicy at all. Very disappointing. - Service. Hubby and I aren't certain how their relationship with Grub Hub works. Unfortunately, we were not able to track our food through Grub Hub's app. Around 30 minutes after we placed our order, we called and they confirmed that the food was on it's way. However, the restaurant also took down our address wrong, which means the delivery person had to reroute to our place, which took extra time. Not cool. Additionally, hubby and I fail to understand how it can take 1 hour to get pizza and fries ready, including getting it delivered? We're less than 1 mile away, so it shouldn't take long. Their service doesn't seem to be dependable, which is the biggest downside. During this time of the pandemic, dependability of service is important. The food here is completely blah. Boiled potatoes with no seasoning as "home fries". Sandwiches made using the least expensive ingredients and past peak vegetables. No one at Brandeis eats here because we love the food. That said, the staff here is even worse than the food. There's a woman working here who racially harasses me whenever I'm in the store. I'm Latin and often wear my hair straight. She always makes comments about how it's very bad that I straighten my hair, how it doesn't look good, and how I do it only to get the white men. The first time, I didn't get a look at who was doing it. The second time today I was like, 'You've got to be kidding me.' I mean, WTH? Lady, you are trying to take an agency over someone that you don't have as someone who literally serves people for a living. What if I said to you that your bad hair color doesn't look good, that you are doing it to try and look younger, and that you should just accept that you're over the hill and stop it. You would tell me to go do something to myself, right? Well, that's what I'm saying to you. Brown and Black girls can also wear their hair anyway they want too. 4/5 - Decent pizza for the price. Crust was nicely seasoned and had an adequate structure to floppy ratio necessary for pizza. Amount of sauce was just right for this style so it wasn't too overpowering and it wasn't overly greasy or soggy. Staff were fairly nice and my order came out pretty quickly. Located conveniently close to Brandeis University, this place sells pretty decent food. It is family owned. They sell breakfasts, bagels, sandwiches, pizzas, and many more. Zoey from The Prime Deli is super rude and frankly, very unprofessional. After I called several times to inquire about my order (that is just delayed on my app), I was left hanging on the phone while I heard pots and yelling. Finally, Zoey makes time to actually speak to me on the phone (the bare minimum) and belligerently yells at me for not ordering directly with them. Extremely unprofessional. Was getting a little fed up with the food on campus and decided to take a walk down the road. This deli did not disappoint. I got the Ding-Mawi and it was one of the best sammiches i've had. They were able to accommodate to my needs and give me gluten free bread. It came with a pickle and a side (I the got potato salad which was great). The staff is friendly and the menu is extensive. I just got back to my dorm after ordering from Prime Deli (once again) and I just had to leave a review. As an out of state student, this restaurant feels like home every-time I come visit. They are respectful and kind, while also being spectacular cooks on the grill and the purest of customer service at the register. When I was here solo over the summer an iced coffee with an everything bagel was my daily ritual. My roommate is obsessed with the curly fries and their burgers are genuinely so freaking good. I have put all my friends on to their pizza which goes very well with a alcoholic drink in the other hand. I love the support they show for Brandeis and their students as well as the Waltham neighborhood as a collective. This is a lovely establishment that feels and taste like home. Light, crispy crust with a good crunch and plenty of flavor. For the price, you really can't beat it. I had to take a work call and the folks here are friendly and personable. This is located in Waltham right by the college....there is no air conditioning just a large fan. It is really hot in a suite because they have some pizza ovens. There was a line when we entered, but it moved quickly and the ordering process was efficient. Please see my blog for more details and reviews. We got sandwiches, chips and drinks. When we got the food we realized there was no where to sit outside (its in a strip mall), so we enjoyed the heat inside (if that is possible). Literally just finished my lunch and wanted to write a review before the underwhelmed feeling escapes me. Ordered online (perhaps my first mistake) and paid for everything including the tip with my credit card. Delivery is free over $10 so honestly that was the deciding factor as to which sub shop I chose. They have a little "track my order" wheel similar to Domino's pizza tracker, which was designed to distract you from the wait I would imagine. Delivery was about 45 minutes, so not terrible I guess. Then I realized I hadn't chosen a side dish which was part of the deal. I called 10 minutes after placing the order and was told my order hadn't left yet so she could still get it added on. I asked for potato salad but was told they just reopened after a 2 week renovation so my only options were pasta salad, cole slaw or fries. I requested pasta. Two guesses what I got for a side? Soggy, limp fries. And the wrap? Ugh. Chicken/steak tip combo on a sundried tomato wrap...soggier than the fries and was a sloppy mess. I took a fork and ate the contents (which were tasty btw) and trashed the wet wrap. My bad for ordering a wrap instead of bread perhaps. Given how infrequently I order out at work (once a year?) it was a disappointment. If the steak tips and chicken didn't taste as good as they did, this would be a 2 star review. read more

We recently stopped in The Prime Deli after passing by it's location on South Street countless times. At first we were amazed at the shear number of sandwiches (hot and cold), wraps, salads, subs, pizzas and breakfast offerings. I also thought that it was probably just another sandwich shop near a college campus. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! We ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and a Greek salad with chicken. Both were made to order and even delivered to our table (maybe because it was a slower Tuesday night?). The chicken was nicely marinated, tasty, and right off the grill hot. The salads at establishments like this are often filled with giant white sections of iceberg lettuce, one third of a tomato and a few croutons. Well, Prime Deli prepared their salad with a fine mixture of greens and the Caesar was made with Romaine. There were plentiful amounts of cheese and croutons that were not just stale, leftover bread. The Greek salad as equally prepared well with plenty of feta. Maybe our expectations were just set too low, but I like to think of it as Prime Deli delivered a great experience and we will both be back to try out the rest of that huge menu! read more

If you're looking for a delicious pizza Prime Deli is the place to go!!! From the veggie to the chicken bacon ranch to plain cheese pizza all the specialty pizzas are delicious!!! They have a over 15 specialty pizza flavors available to choose from! Also the delivery person went the extra mile to find our porch ( we live in a confusing set up with multiple units) and deliver our food to the correct unit. Talk about a place that benefits from a lack of competition. Cappy's across the street has pizza, but this place is (unfortunately) the only "deli" in the area (at least that I'm aware of). This place loves to tout the fact that Brandeis voted them "best pizza," apparently not aware that college kids will eat feces for the right price. The people here are plain rude, and I don't appreciate being ripped off. It's one thing to have high prices - they do - it's another to actively overcharge your clients (they do this as well). I ordered a ham and turkey sub with curly fries and was charged over $12. I went to the menu and under "clubs and subs" looked for ham or turkey and it said $7.50, "comes with fries." I brought it to their attention, they gave me the run around and refused any sort of renumeration (in fact, some guy that worked there speaking undiscernable English said something I couldn't hope to ever understand). To make matters worse, it took them 15 minutes to fill my order. Seriously? Too bad too, cause the curly fries were delicious - just not delicious enough to raise this review to two stars. I don't know what it is about this place, but I always get this intense feeling of 'the grass is greener on the other side' when I eat here, because they have about 12,000 things on their menu, many of which look awesome, but I've never had anything especially good here. Their cold cut sandwiches are kind of 'meh,' and I was offended by the steak and cheese sub they made me yesterday (unmelted cheese?! no peppers or onions?!). Their system of taking orders is bizarre, as you have to tell your order to the guy making the food, and then re-transcribe it for his wife 14 seconds later so she can ring you up for it. This frequently results in crossed lines, and they've screwed up orders on me a couple of times. Really, you're generally better off across the street at Cappy's for a grease-fest or at the South Street Market for a much tastier sandwich. Stopped here before hitting up Chillbox. The menu is HUGE. They serve breakfast all day and also like 50-70 other foods. I had the gyro and it was delish. I wish there was a better setup with the menu because it takes quite a bit of time to read through all the offerings and make a decision. We felt kind of pressured to make a choice so it would have been nice to know where the menus were so we could grab one and take it back to our seats. I've been in the Brandeis area for a good long time, but I don't find myself coming here very often. There is a limit to how much Cappy's you can eat, but in my case it's larger than you would expect. There are a lot of options - a normal sized menu board, plus tons of pages of loose paper with specials printed on them. A lot of the options are kind of strange, though, and I imagine you could just make something up and ask for it anyway. Most things, in particular the specials, are overpriced for how good they are. The sandwiches do come with chips and a pickle, though, which is nice. For a cheap, kinda-healthy lunch, try the chicken gyro. It can take a long time to get your food. The ordering, cooking and serving process isn't well streamlined and there are usually almost as many people sitting around waiting for food as eating. No it's not a gourmet sandwich shop, but I like the Prime. I don't know how they keep track of the huge number of sandwiches, wraps, calzones, etc. Calzones are better than Cappy's. They have egg salad! Sandwiches are pretty good. +1 for such names as "Ding-Mawi", "Hot Frah", and "Wi-Fi Chicken Grill From the Hot Spot". Definitely call ahead and get takeout, there's not much in the way of atmosphere and they're not the quickest place. But the food is solid and you can find something for everyone here. read more
