They also have other things too - Italian canned goods, sauces, dried pasta (like Colavita brand). They also freeze other cuts of meat like veal cuts. They also carry other cuts of meat & Italian Specialty products here. Most ready to eat red pasta sauces available in the supermarkets are pretty Nasty. They carry Fiorella's from Italy one of just a few brands you can actually eat straight of the jar; if you are in a rush. It tastes Pretty Good. Better yet, Cut up some onions, Fresh garlic, mushrooms, olive oil etc. & Sauté them in a pan for just a few minutes & then mix into the sauce. You could actually pass this off as almost Home Made Sauce & done in just a few minutes. At the same time cook your sausages. A Quick Cheat Italian Home Made Dinner Done in a Flash & without a lot of work! Pretty close to Home Made without the hard work & time is a God Send for most people. Would get 5 stars if the help was a little friendlier and not so condescending, i guess it could have been the owner who waited on me, either way, she was miserable, unlike most italians I have met who are usually very sociable. That aside the Chinese and the garlic and cheese sausage were fantastic, as were the steak tips, small store with a huge kitchen and fridge behind the counter. Parking was easy, I guess it depends what time of day you get there, get there early, but not too early as they open when they feel like it and not necessarily when they advertise (so I've heard) Didn't get chance to check out the rest of the store as the servers daughter came in and the server plus the other customer in the store proceeded to pontificate about her daughter in general and I had obviously become invisible. read more

Finally went back for the Chinese sausages. They are bright red. They look alien. They are the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. My god. Cook em the way they say at DPs - 5 minutes in the microwave on one side, turn and pokem (sounds like a dating ritual), 5 minutes on the other side, and then 10 minutes on the grill. Perfection. Wow, if you like sausage, then you should go to this place. If you love sausage, then you have to go here. This place is exactly what you want from a family-run business: small storefront but much larger place where they do all the actual prep and cooking. Seeing all those fresh sausages piling up in the back area was a major slice of hog heaven. I bought the spicy sausage and it was fantastic. The heat was right, the taste amazing, and the consistency spot-on. Yes, sausages do have consistency differences. Crappier sausages are chunky, while great sausages like at this place have a smoother consistency. My guess is that the reason for this is that DePasquale's uses better cuts (as opposed to scraps) to make their sausages, so they dictate what goes into their sausages. Here's something else I've discovered, if you cook it in a skillet (sear 1 minute on each side at medium-high heat, then cover and cook for 7 minutes at low heat), after you sear the first side and turn it, make a couple of small slices in the skin on the seared side and then cover the pan with a lid. If the sausage is great quality, you will just see meat in the sliced area. But if the meat's quality is low, you're going to see a lot of crap foam up at the sliced areas. Here's a major hint: if you go here, don't do what I did. I just bought the spicy sausage. You should go and buy 2 or more of each type of sausage they have (e.g. spicy, Chinese, garlic & cheese). I wish that I had bought the other types as well when I went. But I'll have to save that for next time. read more

My fiancee and I just moved to the Lake at the start of this month. When we signed the papers to our new apartment our landlord told us what a great neighborhood we moved into. Naturally, the first thing I did was Yelp! out the area. DePasquale's was the first place to stand out. I read the reviews and knew that I had to get these sausages for an upcoming birthday / graduation BBQ. I have to admit I was a little intimidated walking into DePasquale's. I don't know why but I was kind of picturing the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. I couldn't have been more wrong. I walked into this tiny store filled with everything Italian. A wall of pasta, jars of stuffed peppers, freezer FILLED with meats, and a fridge filled with different Italian sodas. However, what stood out the most to me was the pizzelle makers (picture a waffle maker only flat) and at least 4 different brands of anise extracts. BOOM right then and there I was taken back to my childhood when my mother would make pizzelles on special occasions. I'm rambling, sorry. I walked up the counter and the mother / daughter duo were working like a well oiled machine and took customer's orders so quickly that I almost didn't have time to take it all in. Based on Yelp! reviews and my love for spicy foods I ordered a pound each of Chinese, hot, and garlic and cheese. Fast forward to last night and the sausages, mainly the Chinese ones, were the most sought after food off the grill. I really can't say enough good things about my experience at DePasquale's. No matter where you're from, DePasquale's is worth the trip and a must have for any BBQ. read more

The sausages there are great. Have been for half-a-century. That's not why I write. Went in today. Have NEVER in my life been treated so harshly and poorly. Guy was obnoxious as hell. Horrible. I asked for the owner, who wasn't there, and proceeded to be treated in a way that borders on verbal abuse. The person there was rude and just plain awful. I later found out -- after making some inquiries in the neighborhood -- that the owner will be leaving in a year or two. Here's hoping that the alleged human being that told me "that I don't need your business" isn't involved there down the road. Trust me. You won't enjoy your experience. Wow. Their sausages were amazing and bursting with so much flavor! This was my first visit and it won't be my last. It was worth ever cent. Like another reviewer, this place reminded me of the Soup Nazis from Steinfield. When I got there at 10:30am, there was a line out the door. As the line weaved thru the small storefront, I enjoyed looking at all the pastas, cookies, peppers and meats. I listened to others as they ordered. Questions started flying through my mind: What's a box? How many pounds in a box? About how many links per pound? Which flavors do people recommend? As I got closer to the front of the line, it was obvious that the most common were the sweet, hot and chinese sausages. The next would be the cheese & garlic. A box was 5 lbs and it could be a combo of sweet, hot or chinese. That day, they had cheese & garlic, maple and country, too. I decided to order by # of links. I walked out with about 10 lbs of sausage. (4 links is about 1 lb) I fried up one of each to try with my husband that night. They were all amazing! The sweet was bursting with flavors. The hot had a nice kick to them, nothing like the supermarket bought ones. The chinese tasted like chinese roast pork or spare rib flavors and was quite delicious. And with the cheese & garlic, we could actually taste the cheese and garlic in the sausage. I don't think I could pick a favorite. They were all so good. They were even better grilled up on the BBQ. Our guests all enjoyed the sausages. We'll definitely go back to try more flavors. Their steak tips looked pretty amazing as well. Try to decide on what you want before you order. And as one person in line said to me when I asked what flavor they recommended, he responded 'how much room do you have in your freezer?' They are that good. read more

juicy greasy link sweet spicy garlic and cheese longing for the fest I was first introduced to this phallic meat from the gods at a friends BBQ in Waltham. Like every girl, I love all tubed and grilled meats sausage and brawts and hotdogs... so naturally I took the first one that was ready: Spicy Italian. Perfection with a serious kick. Then there was the sweet sausage. Yeah, I can handle another sausage. If perfection could get more perfect it was the sweet after the spicy. Wait there's ANOTHER flavor of sausage?!?!?!?! Garlic and cheese sausage. If only I hadn't had two sausages and a pitcher of sangria before I got this--I could have had about 10. I went the day after the bbq to get some sausage for myself, and especially try the chinese that is so popular on yelp. It is $1/sausage. Awesome. We got 3 of each type that was available (tragically, they were out of garlic and cheese, GO EARLY to get the good stuff, they run out!). We got sweet, spicy, tomato basil, and chinese. Grilled'em up and was AGAIN blown away with their goodness. The tomato basil: meh, but the chinese: MUAH! I'm pretty sure I could eat the garlic and cheese and chinese everyday. read more

There are lots of imported products (pasta, olive oil, amaretto cookies)crammed into this little space, but the main attraction is the meat since it is a great spot for freshly made sausage. The prices are awesome ($3.50/lb) especially since they are making the sausages right behind the counter. The pound of sweet sausage we got cooked up nicely with no grease in the pan, but the links were FULL of flavor. I would like to give the hot and extra hot sausages a try as well as their stuffed cherry peppers. They also get bonus points for selling Girl Scout cookies for a local troop. read more

I grew up in the neighborhood and as a kid we used to buy them from the original Mr. DePasquale. You would walk right into the refrigerator and watch him make them. He would hand twist them into links right in front of you. DePasquale's market is a tiny storefront on main street Nonantum (part of Newton). It's an old Italian neighborhood with a small but vibrant center of pubs and shops. If you didn't know about it, you would probably pass right by unless you are very curious about small Italian markets. It's a well-kept secret unless you know superb Italian sausage and meats, in which case you know it's one of the best Italian sausage places you will ever find anywhere. Many authentic Italian markets exist around the country, but what this one lacks in size, it makes up in consistently fantastic sausages. Who cares if the counter service isn't always especially friendly? This place is a treasure, only 2 minutes off the MA Turnpike. read more

It's the weirdest thing I've ever encountered - bright red, chubby, and marinated in what I think is sweet and sour sauce. I guess it's the Italian interpretation of a Chinese sausage?
