I would have gotten a lot more food except I didn't really want to get full so I didn't get that much and still had to pay the same price which is kind of annoying. Still a good place to eat some great food and they have a lot of Irish dishes on their menu which I'll have to try another time. Except it says they're closed down. Ugh. I had their steak tips that I grilled at home and they were very tasty!! I have had the potato soup and the beef stew and they are excellent! Homemade taste, absolutely delicious. They also have a convenience store section with snacks and other things to grab and go. At Ronan's Deli, you are guaranteed great customer service and easy access to authentic Brazilian and Irish goods in their product aisles (ex. chocolates, crackers, spices, drinks, desserts, and etc.) However, Ronan's Deli is more than just a convenience store. What makes this place so unique is their hot foods. My fiance who doesn't enjoy eating meat at all, fell in love with their marinated steak tips. I was also blown away by how well they marinated their steak tips. Not only that, they cooked the steak tips to perfection. I also tried their steak bomb sandwich and it did not disappoint. This place also offers breakfast food all day so if you are ever in a mood for some delicious breakfast food in the middle of the night, make sure to hit this place up. This is definitely a great addition to the neighborhood and I really do think their steak tips will take over the entire Brighton area pretty soon. I spoke too soon with my previous review. Oliveira's is, in fact, NOT as good as it used to be as Ronan's. I ordered a burger a few months ago and it might have been the worst burger I have eaten in all of Boston, tasting as if it had been frozen, then over cooked beyond all recognition. Under the Ronan Administration, that burger would have been perfect, and one of the most sumptuous burgers in all the neighborhood. No longer the case. Even the barbecue these days tastes drier and less flavorful. A few items on the menu are still tasty, but it is indeed a shadow of what it once was. Sigh. read more

I checked this place out because I was working in the area for a couple of weeks. BOMB food at the hot bar and it's different every day. Corned beef chunks the size of your hand with cabbage and HOT, never cold. Today I had the beef stew and the beef chunks were the size of tennis balls and TASTY. This place is a jem. Their marinated meats are on display in the back. If you have questions about the different meats and how they are marinated, ask away! The service here is so friendly. They really embody the Brazilian hospitality. As the name of this establishment implies, they are also a deli and hot food and subs can be ordered. They have a lot of neat goodies in their aisles that range from American, Brazilian, and Irish. I am a fan of Brazilian chocolate bars, and they had a good variety in stock. Unfortunately since being sold and given a new name, Oliveira's Deli, the quality of this place has gone down tremendously. Ronan and his wife, along with the old staff, made this place a charismatic, family-friendly business that felt like home with fantastic food; the burgers were some of the best in Boston! However, since selling the business and changing the name that is no longer the case. The crowded store with high shelves make the place feel claustrophobic and uninviting; it has turned into a big box store in miniature form. The staff are not as friendly, and will barely say a word to you. Two of the staff, who worked at the old Ronan's, are still a pleasure and it is a joy when they are there. Otherwise there's no communication with them now and we're extremely outgoing people who really enjoyed having a conversation here and watching as their kids grew up over the years. I've talked about the atmosphere, but what about the food? It seems by diversifying their products they have forgotten to give customers the same quality food as before. Nowadays, the Brazilian BBQ (a huge draw) is filled with over-cooked meat that has been burned and the food in the hot bar has obviously been sitting there for hour hours, possibly even a day or two, without being stirred or replaced. The cooks themselves making the food are not as talented...Ronan truly was the best cook around, but now, medium-rare burgers come out well-done. The steak and cheese sandwiches fall apart when picked up, rendering them unedible as a sandwich and with a distinct lack of flavor. The pre-marinated meats no longer have flavor as well and often everything just tastes bland, or burned, or overcooked. We used to visit Ronan's at least once a week and had made it a tradition every friday; this place deserved 5 stars back then. However, now, the place deserves 2 stars and we've been there maybe twice in the last month. What used to be one of our favorite places to go to in the area has now become our least and we actively choose to go to the other restaurants now over this place. Now, the line, "hmm, should we go to ronan's?" gets responded with "no they suck now." Overall...really disappointed in the quality now and we wish this place would become good again. Have Ronan teach you guys how to cook and treat customers or you may end up losing the rest of your regulars. read more

Love this place! It has become our Friday night dinner tradition. Our favorite is to get the Bacon Cheese burger with fries, and I like to add a portobello on as well. They also do great hot food and salads. As much as it is a deli, they offer so much more. read more

Got meat from the meat counter and chicken curry from the prepared food section. Chicken curry was perfect - loads of chicken, not like other places that fill the serving with all sorts of other stuff and are light on the main ingredient. Ronan was very friendly and very receptive to feedback. Bought sausages from the meat counter and they are as good as any you will get in Boston and better than any available around Brighton - you have to go to Dorchester to get the same quality. I've lived in Oak Square for 7 years now and I LOVE being able to have variety in where I shop within walking distance. Everyone is so friendly here and you're always greeted when you walk in the door. I only came in for the large variety of meats up until recently,(which you CAN'T get at Kiki's) but now I come in for the turkey sub. The basil mayo really blew me away! I can't stop thinking about it and what a delicious twist it puts on an old favorite. I have to try the prepared foods after seeing the photos and rave reviews on this site. I should also add that every time I shop for meat here, if they don't have what I'm looking for out front, my man behind the counter will either pull the chicken wings out of the cooler, or grind the steak into ground beef right out front. read more

What a great deli! I usually pick up breakfast here on the weekends and its always delicious and very well priced. For a plate with two scrambled eggs w/cheese and onions, home fries, toast, and (deliciously crunchy) bacon, it's a only $7.50! Can't beat that. The service is great and the food is right up there. Finally, somebody has got this storefront's niche market correct. With the Kiki's powerhouse across the street, I feel like this has been a difficult corner for business owners to get a fix on. Walking in to Ronan's for the first time today, I am greeted not only by fully stocked shelves, but by two or three gentlemen who are immediately VERY friendly and attentive --- even after I told them I was just looking around. The fresh meat counter is stocked with exactly the right meats at the right prices for the neighborhood and competes with (sometimes beats) Stop & Shop prices. Boneless middle meats (New York Strip, Rib Eye) for about $8-9/pound, marinated tips that look fresh and appetizing, pork loin chops in the self service and full service case, piles of fresh, jointed chicken wings for Football season, what appear to be house made sausages, etc. etc.; nice looking streaky bacon, but almost as importantly they have proper rashers that are cut correctly with a portion of both the loin and belly in tact on one slice, and appear to be cured in house, which you can't get at a supermarket. Though their website says "created by a Brazilian," the Irish stuff tells me the owners have clearly researched their target market. However, in addition to being able to get bangers, rashers, and black/white pudding, I'm confident that I might be able to call up and get myself a picanha if I need one! There are hot soups, hot coffee, and hot bar meals available, also. But I really just can't get over the fresh meat counter. I really think that a proper fresh meat counter with good service is the only thing that Oak Square/Brighton Center has been missing. Many storefronts have tried, but I think Ronan's will succeed. Now, you can get everything you need for groceries for the week without going to a supermarket at all within walking distance, thanks to Ronan's! Good luck to this business! read more

Great to have Ronan's Deli in the neighborhood. The meat and fish are really fantastic as is the deli stuff. I bought some of the best salmon I've ever had at Ronan's 3 weeks ago and now I buy all my meat from him. Grocery section is a bit lean but some of that may have to do with the fact that he opened right before all of the storms. Super nice guy on top of it all. Ask for the Brazilian and Filipino dishes. As a guy who grew up in Dorchester I expected the Irish breakfast sandwich to be better. It wasn't even close to Greenhills. On the plus side, the rest of their menu looks good and the place is very clean. The coffee/tea setup is convenient. His "Brazilian food" selection is great and his rice and beans are better than the ones my grandma used to make back in Minas Gerais. He also has a great selection of desserts and Brazilian products.
