Experience the best bbq in Willacy County. Danny and Belinda welcome you. Wall decor and coffee station.

Smoked meats, in house made sausage links and home baked sweets by owner Belinda. A must stop when in the area.

    The Gobbler!

I had The Gobbler yesterday and it was so good! A sandwich of smoked turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy! It was Thanksgiving in every bite! And I topped it off with a perfect chocolate chip cookie! As usual, the servers were helpful and attentive. Great food with great atmosphere! I'm definitely having this again.

The Korean fried chicken was dry, flavorless and seemed like frozen chicken. Also asked for wings and they brought out tenders. The bulgogi was dry, flavor was ok. There's really nothing more to say after that. Th sides were fine, the kimchi flavor didn't really stand out. The spicy tofu was dry and absent any noticeable flavor. Service was ok, took drink order and food order and didn't really stop by after that. If you stop by and don't notice this place wouldn't blame you one bit. It's a pass. About the only notable thing was they play k pop music videos on the wall.

We both know what excellent service and authentic food should be. Unfortunately, we were burned on both at Kokiri. There is an online ordering system. I ordered an hour in advance and when my husband went to pick up the food it wasn't ready. He had to wait an additional 15 minutes before it was ready. He spoke to the lady behind the register and then asked to speak a manger. It took 5 minutes for the manager to come out. The manager said the online system isn't really monitored well and to just call next time. My husband asked what could be done and she wrote on a receipt that we would have a free Korean pancake when we go back. My husband tried to explain the hour and 20 minutes at this point and how the system needs to be fixed to help customers not have to wait. She then started to defend herself saying it was busy and the customers in the store also have to wait. ‍ he just politely excused himself and left. I spoke to him later and said "other customers waited an hour and 20 minutes???" He got home. The food was cold and low quality. The Tteokbokki looked like canned soup. The seafood pancake had 1 piece of squid and the only dish they gave sides dishes for was the bulgogi. Serving sizes were also very small. The bulgogi was pretty standard and not bad but it was cold. Overall very disappointed. Today we tried Seoul Asian Market and ordered to-go. Food was ready when we got there. We got side dishes for both meals and portion sizes were good. The Tteokbokki was excellent! If you know your Korean food and want to be treated well, I'll save you stress. Go to Seoul Asian Market instead. I really do hope places like Kokiri start treating customers better and thinking of us when they set up systems they don't plan to manage well.

The shrimp are perfectly cooked--tender, plump, and buttery--so fresh they practically melt with each bite. The garlic-infused sauce is rich without being heavy, coating the pasta in a silky finish that brings everything together beautifully. But what truly elevates this dish are the tomatoes. They are delightfully sweet, bright, and bursting with flavor, adding a fresh, vibrant contrast to the savory scampi. Every forkful strikes that perfect balance of citrusy zest, garlic warmth, and natural sweetness. The Grouchy Gringo may have a playful name, but there's nothing grouchy about this plate. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and already plan your next visit before you've even finished. Absolutely five-star worthy.

On our first visit, we were enthusiastically welcomed for lunch. The dining area is to the right side of the main entrance. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. He stayed a bit at our table to tell us a little bit about the restaurant. The menu you is very fun to read. For lunch, I ordered a cup of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. The "cup" was large enough to share although I really didn't want to share it. I can't imagine how large a bowl of gumbo will be. I love good gumbo and this was very tasty. A slice of garlic bread is included with the gumbo. Delicious! I also ordered the "fried yardbird" sandwich which is a batter-fried chicken sandwich with crispy lettuce and a large tomato. French fries are included with the sandwiches. My husband purchased the "Friday Special" which was a flounder, nicely breaded and fried and a side of the french fries. We returned on Sunday for breakfast. This Sunday happened to be a cold windy day, and we were the first customers to arrive - definitely grouchy gringos due to the cold and the wind. We had a different waiter this time, and he was so friendly and greeted us warmly. He changed the ambiant music that was playing to a nice selection of soft "blues" which happens to be our favorite music. We both ordered Polly's Biscuits and Andouille Sausage gravy. Polly's Biscuits and Gravy includes two small, but very flaky biscuits and a generous portion of gravy. We also ordered scrambled eggs as an add-on. We were pleased with this selection for breakfast. By the time we left the restaurant, we were pleased to see many other people arriving for breakfast. The Grouchy Gringo is a very large venue, so I hope that it will become a very popular location in SPI because it is definitely a "keeper." It will be awhile before we return to the island, but we will definitely return to The Grouchy Gringo.
