If there was one descriptor of this place it would be just ok. That would be followed by dry. Nothing really stood out, everything was just ok. The Korean fried chicken was dry, flavorless and seemed like frozen chicken. Also asked for wings and they brought out tenders. The bulgogi was dry, flavor was ok. There's really nothing more to say after that. Th sides were fine, the kimchi flavor didn't really stand out. The spicy tofu was dry and absent any noticeable flavor. Service was ok, took drink order and food order and didn't really stop by after that. If you stop by and don't notice this place wouldn't blame you one bit. It's a pass. Tried this place after my brother recommended it and it did not disappoint! The overall look of the restaurant was nice and clean and the K-Pop videos playing in the background were a nice touch. I love Korean food but my mom had never really tried it. So we stayed safe and ordered both the chicken and pork dumplings which were delicious. She had the bbq short ribs and although they were a little tough to chew, the flavor was really good. I had the black bean noodles and they had a great flavor and nice chewy texture. I loved the yellow pickled radish too. I also ordered the beef bulgogi so we could both try! I asked for them to make it spicy and oh boy, that beef was SPICY! We love spice but eat with caution! It was still all delicious! Mom was a little disappointed they didn't have fried rice but I enjoy steamed rice with the beef and the kimchi. I love kimchi but this one did have an odd fishy after taste that I couldn't get past. The pickled radishes were tasty though! I just wish we would have had some broccoli or cucumber for my mom to try. We're not huge fans of any kind of seafood so we didn't try the calamari or fish cakes but they looked tasty if you're into those dishes. Our waitress was sweet and attentive but we wish she had been a little more knowledgeable about the way the dishes were prepared. Overall the experience was nice and we both enjoyed the food! My husband and I are new to the area. My husband is Korean and we have been looking for the best restaurants in the area. We both know what excellent service and authentic food should be. Unfortunately, we were burned on both at Kokiri. There is an online ordering system. I ordered an hour in advance and when my husband went to pick up the food it wasn't ready. He had to wait an additional 15 minutes before it was ready. He spoke to the lady behind the register and then asked to speak a manger. It took 5 minutes for the manager to come out. The manager said the online system isn't really monitored well and to just call next time. My husband asked what could be done and she wrote on a receipt that we would have a free Korean pancake when we go back. My husband tried to explain the hour and 20 minutes at this point and how the system needs to be fixed to help customers not have to wait. She then started to defend herself saying it was busy and the customers in the store also have to wait. ‍ he just politely excused himself and left. I spoke to him later and said "other customers waited an hour and 20 minutes???" He got home. The food was cold and low quality. The Tteokbokki looked like canned soup. The seafood pancake had 1 piece of squid and the only dish they gave sides dishes for was the bulgogi. Serving sizes were also very small. The bulgogi was pretty standard and not bad but it was cold. Overall very disappointed. Today we tried Seoul Asian Market and ordered to-go. Food was ready when we got there. We got side dishes for both meals and portion sizes were good. The Tteokbokki was excellent! If you know your Korean food and want to be treated well, I'll save you stress. Go to Seoul Asian Market instead. I really do hope places like Kokiri start treating customers better and thinking of us when they set up systems they don't plan to manage well. read more

I haven't been to very many Korean restaurants. I've only been to one other in south McAllen and I LOVE it. We gave this one a try and it was ok, for me. It didn't taste as authentic compared to the other place I've tried. We ordered several dishes. The dumplings, the stone bibimbap, spicy pork bulgogi, beef bulgogi and loaded kimchi fries. The fries and the beef bulgogi were my favorite. The pork was good also, and just a little spicy. There was an event going on the day we went so service was really slow. We kept waiting on the bibimbap. We had already finished all the other dishes and were left waiting on that one dish. The waitress was friendly but never really came by. But again... the event. There was a crazy/strong smell of maybe paint, or varnish. Reminded me of Brasso, the metal polish cleaner. Maybe because this is a new spot but the smell was driving us nuts. They haven't been open too long so maybe the staff just needs to get into a better routine. We all said we would come back and try this place out again. read more

The galbitang had great flavor and well-cooked rice, but the jjamppong missed the mark, likely because it's a Korean-Chinese fusion dish that's tough to perfect. Very disappointing. I asked for the tteokbokki but the waitress gave me the rose tteokbokki by mistake, I guess because I had asked about it when ordering. Miscommunication there. Food lacked flavor. My boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves to some Korean food and decided to give Kokiri a try. The place is on the smaller side (capacity maybe around 40ish people at a time). There are several flat screens playing various K-pop videos and some scenic videos so it's pretty lively of an atmosphere. The service was top-notch with our server checking in on us throughout the time we were there. The menu is rather small, but it is a bistro after all. All the classics. We ordered the fried dumplings, spicy seafood noodle soup, bibimbap, and Tteokbokki. The dumplings were good but I felt the soy sauce could have used some vinegar to cut some of the salt factor. The bibimbap was well served and came with a side of gochujang sauce. We asked about the banchan and were told only certain dishes come with those as sides but we could order them for no charge so we did. The kimchi was so fresh yet so well flavored I could have eaten a whole plate of that over rice. The spicy seafood noodle soup was HUGE. Very nicely seasoned although I did end up adding the sauces left over from the kimchi banchans to add some acidity and it could have been a bit spicier for my preference, but it was still very satisfying and I brought some home because it was too much to eat in one sitting. The Tteokbokki was nice and spicy although not too spicy for those that can't handle too much heat. All in all, it was a good meal. Will have to return to taste the kimchi pancake and maybe order a side of rice and the banchan again (still thinking of that kimchi's freshness) and to write on their graffiti wall. So give this place a try if you're craving some K-pop and some Korean food. read more
