Finally found a good place for a mens haircut in the Mt Lebo area! I've been out here for three years now but have continued to go out of my way to my old barber which was a inconvenient. Mec has several barbers with great hours both on the weekends and after work and a convenient location with the parking garage right above. I was able to make a Saturday day of appointment and had a perfect cut with Eleigha. My hair style isn't too difficult to cut but I am particular and she did a great job. I have only had 3 Barbers in my 31 years cut my hair. When my last barber retired during Covid, I stumbled on Mec's page and decided to give it a shot. I called The shop and they decided since I was new, they'd give me their new barber, Jeff, that just moved to the city. I have now been to Mec a couple of times and have left each time very happy. The shop is very clean, the barbers all have a great moral with each other and the staff at the front desk are always happy to help and always there with a smile to greet you. I am happy to say Jeff is my 4th barber and I will only be seeing him until either of us move! Absolutely happy I found Mec and Jeff! read more

Honestly, the worst experience I've ever had at any haircut/barber shop. I had the barber Max, who took me 15 minutes late because he was on a smoke break. Then when he came back into the building, he simply looked at me and said "oh, am I suppose to cut you hair?" So after such an awful introduction to MEC, I had some hope left that I could stroll out of there with just an okay haircut. I had a couple of pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like that I showed to Max (Long on top, like 4-5inches, short on the sides, like about 1/2in, and a nice gradual fade connecting the sides to the top). So during the whole haircut, he did not use scissors once, only the electric shaver. What was interesting was my back was toward the mirror the whole haircut so I could not see how he was cutting my hair. Then, he finally puts down the buzzer and grabs a straight edge razor to cleanly cut the back of my neck. He did a good job of making sure I had a nice straight line of hair on my neck, only one problem. He successfully gave me some nice razor burn and scratched up my neck pretty bad. Side note: barbers are suppose to be pretty social right? Well good luck striking up a conversation with good old Max because most of his response to my small talk included "yea, ah huh, no response at all, or a short little positive grunt. Now back on track, this is the moment of truth, I finally see if he succeeded or failed in cutting my hair. Well to make a long story short, he failed, miserably. He totally shaved the side and back of my hair to about 1/16 of an inch. No fade to the top of my hair whatsoever, strait disconnect. He didn't touch the top at all, so it was very uneven. So in conclusion, if you like inconsiderate barbers and haircuts that you didn't ask for, MEC Barber Spa is the place for you. But, if you are the 99.99% of the population that doesn't want to waste 4 month growing their hair back out to fix a bad haircut, you should steer very clear of MEC. Oh yeah, I forgot it was a $25 haircut ironically. Don't waste your time and go to a quality barber shop that knows how to cut hair. read more

We love MEC. We have been going there for years. We've been to all the stylists including Gill, Cece and Max. They all do a wonderful job with men's cuts, especially Max. Not sure why people were unhappy. read more

I agree with previous one start comments. I would have previously given a five star review when Gill was there. Since he left I tried CiCI who was very rude and seemed like I was inconveniencing her. On top of her attitude she gave me the worst haircut I've had. I then went to Max and he spent very little time and gave me an awful haircut and just shrugged if off knowing it was bad. It was worst quality than Supercuts and way over priced. Don't get fooled by the environment and marketing mec does not have quality barbers, they seem more interested in their female brand. read more

I'm finding it extremely challenging to find a salon in the area where I can get a great cut for a reasonable price on a consistent basis. So... In searching for a male-oriented salon on the west side of town, I stumbled upon MEC and became excited about the possibility of finally finding a place that catered to men who are particular about their haircuts. I'm sorry to say, it's not as advertised. MEC is merely an after-thought to a larger salon that caters to a more female clientele. After a couple of appointments, the staff quickly deteriorated to 'business as usual' regarding my cut and service. Meaning, I rescheduled, so they no longer have to work hard for my business. When it comes to men's hair, there seems to be a real lack of attention and detail by stylists in Pittsburgh. MEC is no exception. It was also very uncomfortable how hard they pushed the product line on clients. The stylists are okay, but their 'local attitude' gets old fast; the atmosphere is lacking; the prices are reasonable compared to other salons in the area. It's my opinion that if you're going to market yourself as a "men's" salon, the stylists should be experienced in contemporary men's cuts with specific experience cutting men's hair. Not just stylists who occasionally have male clients. read more

Maybe I'm just a sucker, but I like the sensation of being taken care of, individually and with a sense of luxury, even for just the 20-30 minutes it takes to get a men's haircut. And frankly, having lived in cities of various sizes, the basic $25 men's cut is a very fair price for the quality of service you get. To call itself a spa, though, it has to offer a refuge from the world outside. There are touches in the furnishings that give off the men-only vibe without turning it into a man-cave per se, and the encroaching shelves of styling products are nowhere to be seen. If you didn't grow up with an old timey red-pole barber, but you are sick of feeling out of place in salons, you'll find a home at MEC. read more

Honestly, worst haircut I've ever had. You'd think I was getting a super involved haircut that's pretty difficult, right? Nope. A buzzcut, 1 blade all around. Likely the easiest haircut to do. She did something weird with the hairline on my forehead and it's a little uneven, but I thought no big deal, that'll grow back quickly. Then, when I got home, my girlfriend laughed hysterically when she saw the back of my head. She took a picture and that's when I saw the horror. The sides and neckline were SO uneven - it honestly looks like a kid did it. I was appalled considering this was a $30 haircut (which is on the expensive end for a buzzcut) and they pride themselves on being an upscale barber/salon. I wouldn't recommend Mec if it was the last option in Pittsburgh. You're better off cutting your hair yourself, without a mirror. read more

I switched to MEC last September ('15) before my wedding. I was tired of explaining how I wanted my hair to be cut every time I had a new person at the chain establishments. I was assigned to Eleigha on my first visit, and I have been extremely satisfied with every return visit (every 4-5 weeks). She listens to what I want and executes it well. She does not push products or new hairstyles on me, which makes for a pleasant experience. I typically arrive 15 minutes early, enjoy a beverage, and wait my turn. Eleigha is nice, attentive, and listens to my needs. I would certainly recommend her and MEC to any of my friends. read more
