No work ethics nor customer service is needed to become a bank teller. I was in line with my daughter to deposit some coin rolls. The teller was slouching on his chair looks at me, stands up like he's force to do so, nods his head and signals me to come here with his index finger. All of that just to hear about the coin rolls are short and wrapped incorrectly with the wrong wrapper. At least put effort in providing customers with other alternatives, What a joke. Whoever is in charge, educate Christopher about customer service and let your employees eat sour candies while at work. The facial expressions don't help in this case. read more

Very nice people here. I frequent this branch for my banking needs but lately I've been having a streak of bad luck. Within the last couple of weeks I've had my car stolen, lost wallet with ID and debit cards, and a Cashiers Check lost in the mail. I came into the bank feeling like I wouldn't get any help due to having no identification. To my surprise the branch manager Cyndie was able to verify my identity with a couple simple questions. She put a stop on my lost check and issued a new one that I will now be sending out via CERTIFIED mail so that this doesn't happen again. I left Bank of America almost 40 years ago and switched to Mechanic's Bank for better service and have not been dissatisfied once, the Pinole branch is very professional and down home kind as a good neighbor bank as I have ever been in. Pinole Branch again coming though with the service I've come to expect from MB. Cindy the branch manager called me today to make sure everything was resolved and indicated she will get the answers that still have not been made clear to me. I like to play by the rules... I just need to know what they are! The issue of an overdraft fee was ultimately resolved through the online customer service team, but in that process I continued to receive conflicting written information regarding the transaction procedures as well as what actually happened to my money. A letter in the mail indicating my 'overdraft' was funded by mechanics does not line up with the fact that the 'overdraft' check was returned. Cindy the Branch manager told me that in the future if this same issue should arise that I should expect a call from the bank PRIOR to this happening again. But with everything becoming so automated, I can only hope. MB corporate can thank their branch workers for keeping my business. read more

Mechanics Bank refused multiple written requests to close my account. Instead, they charged me $12.99 per month--for years--until the account was depleted. Surely that's illegal. It's certainly the opposite of what anyone wants in a bank. This was a normal checking account, with nothing strange going on. There was no reason to not be able to close it. I was not able to go to the bank in person, and I suspect that's the reason they would not close the account. But multiple written requests should be good enough. I am furious: it was a literal theft of several hundred dollars. read more

I started banking here a couple of years ago after having a terrible experience with Wells Fargo. My poor old mom went down to get a small equity loan on her home from Wells. She had been banking there for probably fifty years. She easily qualified, and so did her home. After sixty days Wells said no. I took my mom in to meet with Barbara Cronin the manager at Mechanics, and she had the loan done in just over two weeks. Suffice it to say I do all my banking here. The staff is friendly and helpful. We had a great run here for 20+ years. We moved to an area that does not have a branch, but a new branch is in the works so i did not use my account as frequently as I used to. Yesterday I finally went in and told them I was closing my account due to the $12 monthly service fee and they closed it. That's it. No conversation. No concession. No sales pitch. Not even a smile. Sign here. I will miss the Old School Mechanics Bank as it has clearly sold out in more ways than one. read more

Mechanics Bank customer service and policy has really gone to heck after they were purchased by Ford Financial Fund in the fall of 2014. This branch in particular promises callbacks that never happen. It was impressive how badly the woman who set up my business account messed up, causing me to make two extra trips into the bank to sort things out because they could not be fixed over the phone. After the acquisition the bank has no ability to refund fees without running it by upper management (they drained my savings account, trying to cover an overdraft, charging $7 and then proceeded to charge another $30 to cover the overdraft). Based on my experiences as of late, there seems to be no difference between Mechanics and any other heartless-corporate bank. I can't wait to leave. Update 2015-03-05: It gets even worse. I can't transfer money between my business and personal bank accounts at Mechanics Bank without a $2 fee and I have to call on the phone... you cannot do it online. This place makes hiding your money under your mattress look avant-garde. read more

My mom had a MM in her trust at Pinole Mechanics. She died & I had to roll over the account from her name. Alan was very professional and took care of the rollover, including allowing me to use his computer to sign up for a new trust tax id #. Later, I went in to see if they would do a Medallion Signature Guarantee. Branch Manager Cynthia made photocopies of everything and faxed paperwork to their trust department, who were able to set a meeting within 2 days & move stocks into the trust - then ultimately to the beneficiaries - with no hassle. Additionally, I was told about MM rules when I unintentionally overused the account to pay for services. Cynthia assisted me with solutions. While other companies and banks gave me so much grief, the people at Mechanics were so helpful at such a hard time in my life. read more

I have been a Mechanics Bank customer since I opened my first Bank account as a teenager in the early 90s. Up until about 6 months ago I would have given 5 stars. I don't know what is going on with the bank now, but I do know there was a change in ownership. It has become a regular occurrence that the "debit system is down" meaning I have no access to my money, my card is declined. This is embarrassing and frustrating. Furthermore, there is never any notification of a problem, no follow up letter of explainatiin, and obviously no resolution because it has happened at least 4 times. When I call them for answers I am told they do not know anything as to why this is happening and have no idea when it will be resolved. This weekend the online system and the phone system is down and again I had to find out on my own. This means I cannot pay my bills until they come back up which is Appearantly monday. I have opened new accounts with a credit union and will be ending my 20+ year relationship with mechanics! Terrible terrible customer relation! I no longer trust Mechanics Bank! read more

This review is for the institution in general, not necessarily this location. This week we had the second security hack in less than a year to our checking account. Last time the loss was less than $1k, but this time it's more than $4k. Frankly, I'm done with this institution. Apparently there is no monitoring of abnormal charges. Really, Mechanics Bank, you think we traveled to Seoul this week considering our other card uses in the area? I love doing business locally, but I just can't afford to in this case. read more

Do NOT use this bank. While they were once a friendly, locally owned company, they are now owned by a major bank conglomerate in Texas. They made a major error on their end and offered no notification or apologies and the situation will take 12-14 business days to rectify. Unacceptable! read more
