Terrible experience. The digital or online banking is horrible. Zelle expert horrible, might as well withdraw cash & deliver it by foot to the recipient. They take a long time & don't allow Zelle until the other person receives it. Waiting for customer service, horrible. I waited two hours & then they said they will call me, & they never did 2 days later. I am closing my account & unfortunately going to big bank. Tired of these stupid mergers. read more

The representatives that I spoke to in the Concord branch were rude.The first representative said that he could not understand why I was calling because I have no account with them. He was right. I don't have an account with them. What I do have is this: I am a beneficiary of an account that was established by a dear friend to have Mechanic's Bank manage an account in which he named a number of close friends as beneficiaries of monies he set aside to be distributed on a yearly basis. Mechanic's Bank, of course, was and continues to be paid for this service as part of the contract. I simply asked for a copy of the form that shows the IRS that I received this taxable income. That was all I wanted, and Mechanic's Bank Concord and now the Sonoma Branches are treating this request as a bridge too far. I need the document so that I can show the IRS that this check comprises a taxable contribution. read more

After a complete stranger got a hold of my personal info and used it to make purchases with my Mechbank card, mechbank insisted the purchases were legitimate. Their proof? The scammer had my personal info. I mean, of course they got it! Or how were they able to get away with what they did? Nonsensical circular logic. Almost 50 years with this bank, and customer service and account security have been steadily declining. Being told it was fine for people to steal from my account as long as they also stole my personal information also (paraphrasing of course) is beyond reason and the final straw. To say this is the worst bank ever would be understatement of the year. You call customer service and they can help you with literally nothing. They won't help me reset my online account. They transfer you to other departments that have never answered the phone the entire time I've been banking with them. Customer service tells me to leave a voice mail because they call back quickly. I did not realize "quickly" meant waiting weeks to get a call back. Then the person who calls you back is just as helpless. They have a horrible attitude and tell you they can't answer any question you have. So why did you call me back? Oh and you want to speak to a supervisor? That'll be another ten days or more, if you're lucky. I have been trying to sell my car for weeks and they refuse to give me my payoff stub. There's also no email or additional phone numbers. How do I know? Because everyone I've spoken to doesn't have them. They tell you that the ONLY way to get anywhere is being redirected. You have a better chance of getting God himself on the phone than anyone working here that can actually help you. I can't wait to get rid of my car for the sole purpose of never having to deal with this bank again. Such a shame. read more

Not the branch, the bank. Without authorization or notifying me, they cancelled my debit card. Just turned it off. I called the customer service line and they could not give me a reason, nor could they turn the card back on without discussing the matter with some other department that wasn't open on Saturday. I have been banking with Mechanics Bank since 1992 and my hubby since the '70's I believe. We set up an account for our son as well. My 80+ yo mother also banks there. I have had nothing but positive experiences with them and highly recommend the Pinole branch. Long time employees recognize their long time customers. When I needed a hug-pre-covid, I was given one. I recently moved to Contra Costa County and this is the branch closest to my house. And, I am so grateful. I've only had very positive experiences with tellers here. Veronica in particular was so kind and informative. I've also been a Mechanics customer for 7 years now and am very pleased in general. Never again. They basically put my savings account as dormant because it didn't have activity for more than three months. Again, this is a savings account, not checking. My mother, who also has access to this account and a safe deposit box, was asked twice if she wanted to cancel the box that we've been paying for with this said account for the past two years. I had to call the branch and ask to re-activate the account. They said when I go in to take the funds out (since it was on my tenant's move-in deposit) that I could do that then.... I asked if I could do this now over the phone. The rep basically had no courtesy to tell me what I could or could not do over the phone... and then wanted to end the conversation as soon as she was done activating the account once again. But I wanted answers since this was the first time in two years that the bank has decided to do this with my account. Again, no explanation, no customer service and not even a slightest bit of friendliness. At this point, I'm moving banks because I'm tired of dealing with their employees attitude. Great bank. Recommend to all my business owner friends and family members. TWO BIG ADVANTAGES. They are a conservative bank and do not take risks.(they survived the great depression and have accepted zero $$ from the fed - or ever needed to) and they have been in business for a very long time. If your prime purpose is a bank that is safe & solid and will likely survive a bank crash - this is a great place IMHO. So a couple of years ago this branch had a pretty publicized armed robbery. Because of it's location--part of the entryway to both Starbucks and Trader Joes, its sort of a blind corner. Needless to say...lots of foot traffic and autos-moving-very-fast. My review believe it or not is not for the actual bank but for the guard they've had posted outdoors since. This man is the epitome of engagement. I'm convinced he greets and makes eye contact with every person whether footing it, or rolling on by. He sort of inserts himself into your day whether you like it or not--with a smile, kind word or two and will even serve as a crossing guard to make sure you don't get side swiped by someone on a mad hunt for the perfect machiatto. I'm ashamed to say I don't know your name, but often you've brightened my day....so thank ya! read more

This branch and Mechanics Banks as a whole have changed significantly since my original review 3 years ago, and unfortunately it has changed for the worse. In late 2014, Mechanics was acquired by way of a hostile takeover. The service has declined and I have little hope for the company. I've begun moving my accounts to a credit union. I've had some terrible service at the Concord branch lately. In January 2014, my wife & I went to open a savings account for our son who is a minor. Upon arriving, the manager told us we'd be helped in just a minute. We sat for well over 15 minutes while the manager chatted with another customer; the person he said would help us was nowhere to be found. After 15 minutes of waiting we asked the manager if we should make an appointment instead, to which he said we'd be helped right away. It took another 5 minutes for the account manager to come out and see us. I got the feeling that her demeanor went from negative to positive once she saw our account profile - but honestly it shouldn't take a large savings balance to get decent customer service. Once we were helped it took another 30 minutes to complete the forms for a simple savings account. To make matters worse, we received a call today indicating that the Mechanics account manager had us sign the wrong forms and that we'll have to return to sign the paperwork again. I really have no confidence in the competency of the Mechanics Bank Concord branch. II sent this description of the January event to Mechanics Bank's corporate office and was assured twice that the regional manager would contact me. Guess what? No call or email. I think the whole company has given up trying. read more

I have had an account & safe deposit box at this branch for about 3 months now, and so far, I have only had a very good experience. I have not interacted with any other of their branches. The bank is new and very nice and modern inside, and all the people have been very nice and helpful. I've never had a long wait, and there are two ATM's, which is convenient. Even more convenient, they are right next to Trader Joe's, and since I'm there so often, this is one of the biggest reasons I opened my account here, not to mention they were the closest bank to my house that offered a safe deposit box big enough and reasonably priced. Maricela helped me open my account and safe deposit box, and was very very pleasant to deal with both for this, and when I've seen here most times I'm at the bank. She is always very friendly and has a smile for you. I don't know the others as well, but they have always been great too. I'm sorry a few others have had a bad experience, but so far so good for me. I had Bank of America ages ago, left because of the shoddy way they structured their online banking. After that i went to Washington Mututal (when they still existed,) same issues. I had a job afterward that banked payroll with The Mechanics Bank, so to make things easy for cashing checks i just signed up. 8 Years later it's the best decision i've ever made. The online balance is fair, and shows you what you're REALLY working with, you don't get the idea it's structured to rip you off. Every time I go into the Concord Brach, or the Pittsburg brach everyone there is friendly, and always knows me by first name. Love this bank, can't say enough good things. The Security Guard outside is my favorite person, EVER. Every time i've ran into an issue with an outside source, everyone here at the bank has gone out of their way to make sure it got taken care of easily. I recommend this bank to everyone I know, and will continue to do so. read more

Edit/Update: I have bumped up my rating to 5 stars now that I have gotten more familiar and comfortable with Mechanic's online banking set up, plus this.... I can't think of one place who has a security guard who will walk you to your car holding his umbrella to shield you from the rain if you happen to have left your home AND continue to hold the umbrella up for you while your trying to get your toddler strapped in her car seat. The bankers inside are all equally as helpful and friendly, service does not get any better than that. By far the best no brainer move if you are considering leaving BofA or any other big, faceless bank. We just switched to this bank for our small business. I'm so impressed with their service. In one day their business service person, Marc, personally delivered our paperwork, new checks with our name printed on them, went to whatever county office to register our fictitious business name. We were grateful and relieved to have these time consuming things taken care of. I went to the branch for a deposit and when I got out of my vehicle, the security guard promptly met me in the parking lot to escort me into the building. I took one star away for the online banking, as it is tricky for me to navigate just yet since I've been used to bofa's online system. read more

I have been a customer of Mechanics Bank for almost 7 years and I have never had any problems. From the Concord office Security Guard who greets you at the door, the branch manager who greets me inside and to the teller who takes care of my transaction. I am called by my name and I am not just another account number like the other banks. The bank has been around for over 100 years and has a wonderful "family atmosphere" reputation. You can feel that the employees enjoy working for Mechanics Bank. I love not getting charged an ATM fee when you use a non-Mechanics Bank ATM. The location is ideal, Trader Joe's and Starbucks share the center, and always plenty of parking available. No reason to be with any other bank and my money is safe. Thanks. read more

i have mixed feeling with this bank. i will start with the good stuff. the security guard is wonderful, makes sure everyone is safe from crossing the street to opening the door, he dererves 5 stars unfortunatly the staff has a lady named debra golden that has soured my experience with this branch, she has refused to deposit a check into my account, no cash back, that had deposit stamp on it with the account number and made me travel to another location the was happy to help me and gave me no grief, she should look at the price of gas now days and wounder why people anr not happy wasteing time and gas when she could easily have helped me. read more

I was a 4th generation customer at Mechanics Bank. Unfortunately, when their merger happened, this wonderful bank turned to crap. They exist to slam you with fees, much of them RETRO. What the hell is that? You waived the fees for me but once you merged, you went back to see how you could make a buck. Heinous. I was hacked numerous times the last year banking with them, and at first they paid fees associated with this. But then they weaseled out of it, leaving me to suck up $50 in fees, while screwing me with those retro fees. They also brought my daily limit down on my debit card, giving the excuse that with all the hacking, they couldn't afford to cover their customers. Finally, in Concord, the acting mgr. there, a woman, refused to give me my money when closing my acct, telling me to "come back tomorrow. The funds aren't there yet". Ummm...yes they are! My payroll company put them there & when I was a customer, I had access to those funds every pay day but now that I'm closing my acct, all of a sudden the funds aren't available??? I had to call HER superior to get my money - and I did. Boy, was she pissed. The 2 stars are for the old timers who treated me honorably when I had a butt load of money in that bank. They are currently gouging my daughter for fees - you let all your transactions go through so you can close your acct & then they ding you with a fee for a low balance, overdrawing your acct. All the while you never knew there was a fee for a low balance. Mechanics Bank is as bad as Chase, Wells Fargo, BOFA... I went to a credit union. This bank is not worthy of your money, folks. read more

Worst bank ever. I inherited the account from my dad when he passed and nothing but problems with them every time i go in. I had a last straw moment and took my money to Patelco credit union. When mechanics was saying no to everything i asked, Patelco was saying yes and that was before seeing the money. I felt like if i were to go into mechanics with a $100 for a new account i would have been treated better than having an existing account with some money on it. read more

They actually have a manager who reads these yelps; someone from the branch who apologized, and I have to say that it is not when things are OK, but when they go wrong that you can tell how good they are. One of the worst experiences I have had with a bank. And this has not been a one time thing. I have now been with them for about 2 years for business banking. I am not a huge player but the customer service and policies are beyond frustrating even for a small business like mine. I would not recommend using them in any form or fashion.....unless maybe you have 7+ figures to place with them. Maybe then they will actually treat you like a valued customer. read more
