Mike is kind, attentive, and went above and beyond for us on our most recent visit when we were having some electrical problems with our RV. Sites are small, uneven, roots and stumps are common. Would not recommend large motorhomes or fifth wheels. We had a 24' motorhome. Connections for the water, sewer, electric are not standard,(not next to each other) panel lids fall off, couldn't locate water, then when I found it the handle was broken. You will probably need extra hose, electric cords and stinky slinky parts to make connections. Bathroom facilities are dated and limited, only one shower and two toilets per gender. Same dead mosquitos found on the walls each day. Never saw the owner, but probably was a good thing based on what others said. Many of the 5 star reviews are old, and several years old, such as 2012, 2017. read more

The two stars are 100% for the fantastic people who work at and run this camp ground. They go above and beyond to friendly and helpful. My big complaint may not be there fault but it is still something I wish I had known before booking here. This is the second summer we've visited Schroon Lake but the first time at this camp ground and it was a terrible experience. We stayed the second week of June and have this area is invested with mosquitoes. I've spent a lot of time in humid climates and have never seen so many mosquitoes in one place. When we left the campground, mosquitoes were not a problem. Our friends live right on Schroon Lake and they have never dealt with mosquitoes to this degree. Our kids attend camp 15 miles from this camp ground and they have never come home with multiple mosquito bites so while mosquitoes are everywhere this campground is in an extremely invested area, surrounded by dirty swampy water. The problem was so bad that you couldn't open a door even to just walk out or in without 3-6 mosquitoes getting inside. We had to leave a day early because I had over 35 bites. I was sleeping in deet. We spent so much money trying to prevent and get rid of them and nothing helped. The problem was so bad that the day I left, I had to load luggage, and load my 2 year old in her car seat which meant a dozen of mosquitoes got in my car. I drove eight hours to PA, stayed in a hotel overnight, got in my car and there were still at least three mosquitoes! It was absolutely miserable and completely ruined our week bc we were so uncomfortable. The camp ground has lots of playground equipment for little kids, but nothing here is new or modern. I am back in the area again this week staying with friends, no mosquitoes yet! read more

Emailed asking for inside pictures of their cabins. Completely reasonable question, everyone has cameras these days...and it looks a little sketchy on the outside. Plus we would have been travelling 5 hours to get there. I received one simple, careless, response (I am assuming from this Karl guy since reading other reviews... sigh) they didn't add their name of course. He writes, "Unfortunately, no pics." Thats it. LOL Wow. Cool bud... maybe get me some? Wow. Terrible answer. Glad I came across the true/honest reviews of this place, instead of the specific 5 stars they have placed on their website. The sun never shines at Medcalf Acres Riverfront campground. Nice folks at check in, all down hill from there. First night encountered complaints from another camper about the size of their site. Young men who appear to be on drugs loitering around and approaching campers. At least when the cop showed up, he was pleasant. Will not return, do not recommend. read more

From the moment we pulled in, we felt like we were part of the camping family! My wife and I had looked at several other campgrounds this past summer and none had the same family friendly feeling that this campground had. We almost felt like we had been going for years even though we'd never been there before. Staff member Shawna was very friendly and so helpful! She was running an activity for the kids and made sure to include our kids even though we weren't campers!! She was also very helpful in helping us to envision how we would set up our rig on the various campsites that were available. We are all very excited for next year! read more

I spoke very briefly with Karl to inquire about availability. Giving him one star because he called me back promptly. However, I have never spoken with a ruder or more arrogant person. I asked what his refund policy was (given COVID-19 I wanted to be respectful if anyone in our party had symptoms prior to our trip and we might need to cancel) -- "ZERO refund policy. Ya book, ya dont come, ya lose your money" was his response. Fine. I get it. I asked what the capacity was during the weekend we wanted. His response was either "its good" or "it's booked"... and i asked him to clarify as i didn't hear him. He said, "are those answers different??" I was like, umm yeah are you good for us or is it booked? He responds with, "it's GOOD. BC ITS BOOKED"... he was gross, rude, and completely contrary to what a "family resort" should be. I've heard from other friends their grounds are not the best either. Taking my biz elsewhere. read more

Medcalf Acres in Schroon lake is family camping at its best. This is a clean park with large sites. They have full hookups with free wi-fi and cable tv. The campers in the park are very friendly and helpful as well as the park staff. The park itself has many sites right on the banks of the Schroon River, which makes for great tubing, swimming, and kayaking. The owner, who is attentive and friendly, frequently will stop and visit with campers to make sure everything is ok. There are many activities, such as movie night, nature hikes, picnics, and sometimes special events for the children like pony rides, face painting, go cart rides, etc. There is a nice play area as well. It is shady and cool in the park, so you rarely, if ever, need air conditioning. If you like camping, and appreciate a place where the family can relax and play, a place where you are welcomed like family, Medcalf Acres is the place for you! read more

Colleen (col) moved us to a spot right on the river! It was beautiful. The kids could swim and play while we were right there. This RV campground is primarily filled with seasonal campers. All RV river sites are held by seasonal renters so don't expect to get a river site. We got site 62 which was a pull through if you want to call it that. This is the only RV site I have ever had to pull out my leveling blocks, those are usually reserved for state campgrounds only. Site was narrow and right on the road. We looked across the road to find all seasonal campers, some of them very tired indeed. The seasonal campers were very nice, offered some tips on where to get wood, best fishing and one even offered me a beer. Karl is the owner and I get a feeling he exaggerates a little. Told me at time of booking they would have the pool in soon, all that's been done is some tree cutting. Access to the river is primarily through the nature trail that leads to "the beach", which is the shore line of the river that is littered with submerged trees, mud, stones, and muck. Not the best place to spend the day on the water, we chose to drive to Paradox lake and pay the day use fee at the state park. There were plenty of kids here for our 8 year old to play with. The campground has putt putt golf which is free, I would give the course 2 stars. They claim to have an arcade but it is just a few coin op games that are stuffed into a portable shed. The store has a good assortment of candy for the kids, they have ice cream as well but it is all store bought items placed into a chest freezer. Prices are reasonable but we drove 10 minutes each night for real ice cream. Lots of activities for the kids over the July 4th holiday weekend. They have this big bbq where everyone brings a dish to pass and the owner supplies hot dogs (BarQ), hamburgers and chicken legs and thighs. Our grilled items were cold as we were one of the last in line. I asked for a hot hot dog and they did cook another but my daughter didn't care for it. The chicken was very dry. The next night was Elvi so, we stayed at our site but the music was too loud for us to enjoy the night. The bathrooms are small but clean, two stalls for the men. Showers were very small and were at the back of the store in a bunch of pines so pine needles and mud were tracked into the showers, you think they would build a deck or put gravel down? I took my showers around 730am since I don't like to shower in our camper but with little hot water, the third day had me showering in the trailer. The pine needles- they are everywhere, and you track them into your trailer because no sites have gravel. The sewer connection was something I had never seen in an RV park. The pipe was at ground level so dirt and debris could get washed in. When we pulled up the pipe was covered with a rusty coffee can and a broken up cinderblock was nearby. The first time I emptied the grey tank back pressure forced my elbow out of the pipe and soapy water went everywhere. I talked to the seasonal folks about this and they said it was normal, empty your tank slowly because the system can't take a big rush a water. On the last day I emptied the black tank and had the same problem, sewer system at the campground drained slowly so I didn't get a good flush of the tank but I figured out what that cinderblock was for this time, I wedged it against the elbow so I didn't blow off the pipe, only leaked around it, completely disgusting. When we checked out I told the person in the store about my sewer woes, she said they have had no complaints about slow draining lines but when I told her that more than one seasonal camper said to slowly empty the lines, she just said, well I don't know what to tell you. Owner was very rude, cabins were not what we were expecting. The cabin had tarp over the screens to keep the rain out, no latch on the door, right on the pathway, walk across the driveway to be riverfront and there was no privacy. read more

We were visiting my mom from out of state and she recommended this place and raved about it! We went first 2 nights were good they had activities there for the kids at certain times (which were late) but whatever. We moved cabins because the one we were in was booked so we went by the river and right next to the bathroom! Great we would have never taken this cabin if it wasn't near the bathroom due to medical issues that make a bathroom a necessity! 3rd night in and the bathroom stopped working they couldn't take time to look at it so they locked it up! We expressed our concerns and medical issues but to no avail they still wouldn't look at it just kept it locked up. They have a port a potty down the road or a bathroom the other way but in the dark and when it can't take a few to get to bathroom this wasn't gonna work. We weren't looking for any refunds or anything like that just maybe an offer to move to the other cabin which was vacant! But nothing we even called the phone number for the infamous "Karl" that's posted everywhere and we're thinking about staying another night but he NEVER returned our calls! We stayed a total of 8 nights their website said stay 7 and get the 8th free that never happened either! Beautiful place and spot but their customer service could be improved a lot! read more

I just got back from camping here. It was my first camping trip but not my first time in Schroon. I loved it here. Everyone was friendly and very knowledgeable with camping & motor homes. Cute little general store, hot showers, clean, laundry, everything we needed was right there. Only thing we didn't like was that the river front had no view of the river. They should trip the trees in their river front slots, so you can actually see the river. It was lo due to no snow & lack of rain (not their fault), but a view of it would have been nice considering we paid more for that spot. Overall great experience and would visit again!! read more

First time here and will be back for sure!!! It has everything, full hook ups with cable, cabins, tent sites, free wifi, and believe it or not good cell service (your in the Adirondack's people). It's on the Schroon River so you can go kayaking, canoeing, tubing, swimming, etc. Great play areas for the kids. One thing is that it is tight getting to your site but they have escorts which I think is great! It is in the trees so it is nice an shady and cool in summer. The site we were on was very narrow but it was alright because we weren't there much because family/friends rented a cottage on Paradox Lake (one mile away) and we spent most of the time there. I wouldn't want that one if we were there all the time. The people were so friendly and went out of their way to help you, from Karl who called me back after I made the reservation on line, the lady who was cleaning the bathrooms, to the general manager (Gary?). I called a week before we arrived and wanted to extend our stay and Karl took care of it with no hassle. The only thing I think they could do is maybe put a pool in but I don't know where they would put it. Really liked the place!! Would recommend it to anyone. read more
