What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

This location at the Central Park Athletics is fairly new, this used to be the Windsor Ice Rink years ago, and I have since moved back from London a few months ago and have seen the change. The building itself inside is vast and has lots of immensities for people and families of all kind, it's a no judgement area, not like a gym where all you see is buff people working out seemingly judging you. It's nice to have access to the equipment I liked to use at Goodlife for workouts, and the weight area. It's nice because it's not busy during the weekdays at all and it's a nice quiet environment to work out in. The staff are really nice and they're knowledgeable about events, and were very clear about things when I signed up. As for monthly membership fees, if you're on a fixed income or a family rate, you get a certain discount that you can afford, which I still need to sign up for because I'm still paying more than what I did at Goodlife. This facility is clean, it has a basketball court, a pool, family changing rooms as well as men and women's. Friendly staff, good working equipment, they have a weight room, cardio area is always clean and they have a disinfectant spray and cloth to wipe the equipment off when you're finished using it. What a great place to come to for a judgement free workout and a place to feel like you belong.

The DIS is a beautiful community center remodeled from a old grade school…read more The campus is nestled inside of a residential community on the west side of Detroit. The space is filled with nonprofit businesses offering much needed community resources. There is also a gym space, a renovated swimming pool area, which unfortunately no longer houses a pool, but it is now a cool rental space. There's also a convenience store, a Toarmina's Pizza, a community laundry space and a cool arcade inside. I've visited on a number of occasions as the agency I work for has remote offices in the space, offering various resources for the community. It's also a great place to network and meet other Detroiters. The parking lot is sizable and the building is managed by a great company and is secured with guards, inside and out.

The pool and workout room are very nice and they have steam and sauna rooms. The facility also offers an outdoor walking track and outdoor fitness equipment. In the winter, you can workout at the indoor gym which has all of the usual gym equipment. I have to give a special shoutout to Linda at the front desk who was so helpful and informative when getting me and my mom registered. Also Sharon who works in the locker rooms went above and beyond in giving my mom and I a tour of the facilities. We weren't expecting a tour and just asked Sharon for directions and she was so kind in showing us all that the facility has to offer. I am really looking forward to enjoying many activities here!

This year, we participated in the youth basketball program. Both programs were very well organized. For an additional cost, non-residents are also invited to participate in all programs and services offered by the center.

A variety of classes are offered 7 days a week but unfortunately this past Sunday's were cancelled due to some special event they had (website's schedule is up to date). To book a class is super easy; choose which class you want and it tells you how many open spots are left. You pay via credit card and receive an email confirmation. Upon arrival you just go to either of the studios where the classes are held. I booked a spin class and the instructor came up to introduce herself and asked my name and said she saw it on her roster. As for the class, it was very good and the instructor (Jill) was super nice and chatted with her a bit after. Facility is very clean and the bikes were in excellent condition. The only con is it is very hard to find as there is no signage indicating where the center is located (you see the theater upon arrival). I stopped and asked what appeared to be some city road/construction workers and one was able to give me directions. Saw the building with a huge parking lot and assumed that was it as I saw some people going in who were in workout gear and carrying gym bags. It's understandable that they need to raise the rates but it's more than a quarter higher than what it initially used to be. In addition to that they're charging a $40 nonrefundable enrollment fee. All these cost combine make it un affordable for the majority of people in the city. I can see increasing the rates but to add a $40 enrollment fee for something that takes the lady behind the desk 30 seconds to issue. Your enrollment fee is ridiculous. I will be seeking my membership elsewhere and it's such a shame because the facility itself is beautiful, although I'm also frustrated with staff that they don't enforce handwashing or wiping down the machines after use so increasing risk of staph, Mrsa, and other illnesses and disease

I…read morevisited the center twice within the last two weeks to get information about swimming lesson registration for my children. Unfortunately, both times the experience was unpleasant. The employees at the front desk were rude, unhelpful, and unfriendly. Today, I waited for around 15 minutes while one employee kept looking at her computer and another was on the phone. Even when I finally asked for assistance, the response and attitude were not welcoming or professional. As a city community center that serves families and residents, I believe staff should be respectful, cooperative, and willing to help people with basic questions. Instead, I left feeling upset and disappointed by how we were treated. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving customer service for families visiting the center.
