I'm extremely disappointed and hurt by the way my family was treated at both the Livonia and Troy Rec Centers. My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again. read more

It's wonderful that they let non-residents in. It costs more than the residents but I think that's fair. The pool is a great pace to take your kids on a snowy weekend when everyone is trapped in the house. They also had a large family changing area with individual rooms. read more

Very disappointed in TCC. Before Covid, the center had a ping pong room with 2 tables. I for one and many other went there regularly and enjoyed friendly games. After Covid, they sold the tables and have not replaced them. There is no one to contact to ask them to restart the program. I am 47 year resident of Troy, pay the taxes, but I don't have any where to go to enjoy the sport that I love. read more

I come here to play pickleball in the gym and to use the workout equipment. The Troy community is lucky to have such a great facility. (Are you listening Royal Oak?) I buy the day pass that's good every day but only from 9-3. That's fine for me since I'm retired. It is a bargain for a non-resident at only $34 a month. For that I can do any of the gym activities - basketball, badminton, volleyball or pickleball, and use the pool or the workout room. The staff is friendly, the locker rooms are clean, the equipment is plentiful and it all works. They even provide the pickleball balls and put the nets up and take them down. If you want additional options like classes or private instruction you can sign up for that too for an additional cost. Anyways - I love it here and wish my city had a community center. Thank goodness Troy allows non-residents and doesn't overcharge them. read more

Charged my elderly mother $30 to take her grandkids swimming for 10 minutes. The lady at the desk did not inform her that swimming was over in 10 minutes! If she knew that information she would not have stayed! This is called taking advantage of a senior citizen! Also their online pool schedule said they were open until 7:00pm, but closed at 6:00pm. They also refused to give her her money back! What a scam! read more

They give 2 large time slots to badminton DAILY, yet took away pickle ball drop-in hours (barely any evenings offered). If you look at their Fall schedule, it's basically dedicated to badminton fans. Did you know that pickle ball is continuously growing? I mean you must know since you are offering lessons for newbies. All what the community members are asking for is fairness to all residents and the sports they play. So residents have to pay more, drive farther, and play elsewhere because badminton owns 3/4 of the time slots. Please re-create the schedule to reflect equality in time slots for all sports (basketball, pickle ball, and badminton). read more

Troy Community Center - Fitness & Instruction Near Me - Troy, Michigan

After having been to the community pool a few more times and had more time to look around and experience things, I feel compelled to update my review. The staff are always very nice, and I've had some good interactions with a few of the different life guards. One thing to note is that if the pool isn't busy, the life guards are a bit more likely to be lenient with certain things. You see, they have a basketball hoop and two balls in the swim lane section and normally you CANNOT take the balls out of that section. However, when it's not busy, they will let you take the balls into the toddler section of the pool. This is a BIG deal for me since my 17mo son LOVES balls but can't really play with them much in the deeper section (since I have to hold him). That said, it only happened once (I don't go a lot) so really only one life guard has (so far) allowed us to do that... so YMMV on that. But I still really appreciated it the day I was there. I've also since gotten the chance to try the waterslide. HOLY CRAP did it blow my socks off!! It was a MUCH wilder ride than I anticipated for being a somewhat small inside slide. It's definitely worth a ride or two! The one thing I really wish they could change is the water temperature. I'm not sure what it is--and it's not COLD--but it could definitely stand to be warmer. I'm usually chilled after about 10 minutes and have to tough it out until my toddler is ready to leave (he's a hot little biscuit and the temps don't seem to bother him at all--after an hour in the pool, he's still warm to the touch). In a perfect world, the big pool would be the same deliciously warm temp as the rehabilitation pool!! read more

The center is a great place to work out. I highly recommend the fitness passport. Many classes are included with the passport. One area needs improvement and that is for the lack of PROPER training for wave aerobics instructors. There is one exception and that is Rachel who teaches Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning classes. She is an outstanding teacher who does proper warm ups and cool downs, plus suggests adaptations for certain students. I would have given 5 stars if the other wave aerobics teachers were up to Rachel's standard. read more

Can I can't believe I wasted my time at LA Fitness. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but it comes pretty damn close. On top of the usual weightlifting and fitness equipment, there are several features of the community center that give it a leg up on any gym in the area, especially if you have children. First there swimming pool is second to none. They have ample areas for young children to get their feet wet along with a nice water slide, a foam Lily Pad Bridge and a pirate ship playground. They also have an affordable temporary daycare center, as well as a family locker room. The cent offers tons of classes and even has banquet facilities for parties. If you have a family, and live anywhere near the area, the Troy Community Center as one of the best gym/entertainment options available. read more

This is a great place to exercise considering the hours and price. There are reduced fees for the following: senior citizen resident of Troy, resident of Troy, only want to exercise 8-3 M-F (matinee), don't take fitness classes, or an employee of a business located in the city of Troy. Even if you're not affiliated with the city of Troy, it could still be a decent option if you want more than cardio machines/weights but don't want to pay the $60+/person fee at the other gyms with added amenities. There is a pool/basketball court or play badminton/pickleball. This facility, however, doesn't have a racquetball court, though. There are also art classes and bingo in the community center where this facility is located. Pros: -good hours for workout rooms (compared to YMCA) -lots of cardio machines -a decent number of classes (Passport = additional fee) -the option to not purchase classes -nice pool for families with kids/not serious swimmers -designated walk lane (pool) -therapy pool -kettlebells -badminton -pickleball -basketball court Cons: -small pool with limited hours, especially when it's not summer -very short lap lanes (4) available mostly in the mornings -small weight lifting area -strange people that "reserve" showers by putting their belongings outside of the "stall" and get upset if you use "their" shower located in a public locker room (seriously, this place has a lot of interesting characters!) Given that, if I wasn't in this area often, I would not go to this gym. Lapswimming is somewhat of an important factor to me, though. I would not recommend this gym for moderate/serious swimmers. read more

This review is for swim lessons only. We started in the parent/infant class when he was about 8 months old - it was great for making him (& me!) more comfortable in the water. Worked on going underwater, water safety and general holds. Also, we had play time with bath toys and fun songs. It was well worth the money. Loved that the class is offered in the therapy pool, which is nice and warm. We are now taking the parent/tot class and I expect to enjoy it just as much as the first one. read more

We bring our kids to the indoor pool area from time to time. It's a cute little setup with slides, water toys, cute things for the kids to splash around in. However, we always leave a little irritated because the employees are so apathetic, sometimes to the point of being rude. For example, we rounded up our kids and niece and nephew, and they were crazy excited to go on the slides. When we arrived, we paid and went in only to discover the slides weren't open. We asked 2 people, and were told they would open at 5, so we told the kids we could stay until then, since they were SO pumped. 5:10, no slides open. Someone tells the kids it will be 10 more minutes. 5:20, no slides. We ask the employees who are literally just standing around in the office chatting, and they sort of discuss it with each other, like "Oh, I don't know...can you do it?" "Yeah, I guess." "Oh, you know, they actually open at 5:30...." I've been watching the guy who said he would open the slides stand in the glass room playing with a water toy since this conversation...he's literally squishing a toy and staring at it... I get it's cool to not care when you work any kind of customer service job, but come on. Other than that, the experience is pretty good for $7-8 a person. read more

This is a beautiful facility... We aren't members, but we have brought our young daughter here for swim lessons and the place is always sparkling. It's clean, the staff is friendly, and there's a ton of options for what to do there. Exercise facilities look nice, basketball courts, nice locker rooms, and the pools are warm and clean. The swim teachers are really friendly and great with kids, too. read more

I've lived in troy all my life and have had many events here. Just recently, we had a party for a family member of mine and I used stuff for my presentation there. I left it there by accident late in the night and went up there EARLY in the morning and it was gone. They told me to give them my information and they never called me, making me call them a week later. Guess what? They couldn't find it still. I know they have their own kind of adapter that they provide as well. I just hate how this process is all being handled and wish we never had anything to do with them. Now I have to buy another adapter for my computer. If you're going to use these facilities be sure to look out for yourself because they sure won't. read more

I really wish they had a hot tub and a steam room and a sauna. Those would be wonderful to have after a work out! They should consider it!

This place is huge, plenty of parking, lots of activities for seniors and communities. Well organized.

note: this review is for the fitness rooms only my parents live in troy. that means i get to purchase a guest pass to the troy community center's fitness center whenever i come visit them. it is crucial that i maintain maximum activity while i'm in michigan if i'm going to be partaking in better made chips and tubby's subs filled fiestas for the entirety of the visit. there was a special this holiday season and instead of the usual $12, i only had to pay $5. the facilities and equipment are nice. they have a decent amount of room in the free weights area and plenty of cardio machines (treadmills, different types of elliptical machines, recumbent and regular bicycles). there are other areas for basketball, racquetball/badminton. there's an indoor water park-y type area for kids. all in all an "A-OK" place for troy residents (and their visitors) to do a bunch of different active things. read more

Troy Community Center really is one of the best facilities (for the price and esp. if you're a Troy resident) in the area. They have plenty of things to do from swim classes, lifeguarding, game rooms (ping pong, pool), banquet halls, gymnasiums w/hoops, a regular fitness gym with weights and treadmills, and a daycare center. Some of the options are free, and the rest are reasonable rates especially if you're a Troy resident. They have different passes (for summer and Winter holidays) and offer additional discounts for college students. I'm enjoying an $85 dollar Summer pass for four months (May 1 - Sept 1) and with an monthly rate of ~$22 per month, it beats out all the initiation fees that don't include actual rate at places like Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, or Lifetime. Truly a boon for Troy residents and others in the area. read more

Really bad experience, I joined here with my whole family and after few months I closed my membership. Still they charge me every month on my credit for 3 months. When I tried to contact billing department, they were so rude and didn't refund my money also took weeks to response. They make fake excuses about to talk with supervisor but he is on vacation for week. They charge me $261 unknowingly. read more
