Medical Equipment Distributors has been purchased by Rotech Healthcare, a national medical equipment supplier. But if you call the local office the are still answering the phone as Medical Equipment. Yesterday I received a call from Rotech indicating my insurance has denied my monthly bill and CPAP supplies order. Surprised I asked him if my Pulmonologist had forgotten to send in a new prescription. Hard to understand he indicated in the affirmative. I asked if I needed to call my Pulmonologist, he indicated I needed to call the local office and they would know what to do. He indicated I should tell them to remove the "pick up" order. This morning I called Medical Equipment. I did have to hold for a long time. But I suspect it's because their staff has been cut by their new parent company. Niya answered and was extremely nice. She verified my Medicare card number then went into my account to try and figure out the problem. They did have a current prescription from my Pulmonologist. She also said she saw the "pick up" order and indicated that Rotech was wrong. She couldn't remove it. Not understanding what the problem could be Niya said she would research the problem and call me back. I have no doubt that she will. If Zero stars were possible that's what I would give. This is by far the worst company I've dealt with since arriving to Hampton Roads in 2006. Their job couldn't be easier; receive prescriptions from doctors and provide the equipment that the prescription calls for to patients. That's it. And not just any equipment, but CPAP equipment. The equipment that allows people to breath properly while they're asleep. No small thing. It would be reasonable to expect they take the job seriously . This company does not. Despite providing life preserving medical equipment, their lack of professionalism, dishonesty, and complete disregard for customer service is at a level that actually makes them a danger to their customers. A family member of mine uses the prescribed medical equipment they provide and they do as little as possible to get the medical equipment to their customers in any sort of a timely manner. I had to go to the store front three different times asking to obtain the equipment for my family member that is needed in order to breath effectively at night. They gave me the run around, fist telling me our prescription never arrived despite having used it at that location prior, and now that it was set I would receive my equipment. Weeks later i returned having still gotten no equipment, and they lied again and told me it was a clerical error that caused the problem and i would receive my equipment in 7-10 business days. 3 weeks later having still received no equipment I returned at which point I asked why i had come three times and received no equipment? And why i had been told things that were not true on three occasions. ultimately I was told I would be better off just buying the prescribed medical equipment myself out of pocket "because they were changing companies". The change was used as an excuse for months and didn't happen. The moral of this story is : If you need a CPAP- do NOT use this company, if your spouse needs equipment do NOT use this company. After doing business with Medical Equipment Distributers for more than 15 years this company has now outsourced selling CPAP supplies and CPAP customer service to an outside party, "Sleep Central." Medical Equip Dist. used to pick up thier phone right away or call back quickly and offer great customer service. I just spent 20 minutes on hold only to be disconnected. Without customer service there is no reason for me to continue ordering from this business when there are far less expensive choices for the same equipment available online. It's a shame MED has gone the way of everybody else sending their calls to India. I came here to get cpap supplies. When i walked in the rep was helping someone so i waited and looked at the different types of mask they had. Getting a mask was a little overwhelming for me because i wanted to choose the right type. Insurance only pays for 1 so you will be stuck with whatever you pick for at least 3 months. I'm claustrophobic so anything covering my face is a problem... The rep was nice. She allowed me to try on a few different types of mask and i made my choice. The mask alone is $125 without insurance. So my mind definitely started second guessing did i do the right thing. Lol. But she was very patient with me. I chose a full face mask with cushion, got my filters, and new tubing... The cpap machines are about $1000 so the insurance company normally requires you to get at least 8-10hrs of sleep or wear it that long daily, or they won't pay. I can't get 8 hours of sleep in so unfortunately i had to take a different route!! $#%$! $!#/% I was there for about 20 minutes. I paid and was on my merry way. I'm glad it wasn't a long drawn out process. They call you to remind you to order new supplies like filters, cushions, and etc. In the past it got excessive and was on my last nerve getting 2-3 calls a week. But its been a few years so hopefully that's changed. They're close to Lynnhaven Mall area and freeways and easy to access. They also have parking right out front. Recently ordered supplies and wrong tubing sent. Understand with all the changes and software issues, that it could happen. They told me that I ordered the wrong tube (apparently when they said "standard" equipment, it did not mean the equipment originally supplied with my unit, or even including the heated tubing. Then they said they sent that to me last time (which I cannot verify as I do not use this tubing and is different than the last 8 years of use). I would have to pay them a significant amount of money to return the product they sent and get the correct product for my machine. I have patiently tolerated their multiple mistakes in the past, and this was the straw that broke the camels back! read more

I'll admit, I came to this page out of frustration, planning to write this review. Then I read all the other reviews that are exactly like the one I'm writing. Apparently, folks, I'm not that special...poor service here extends to almost EVERYONE! I'm honestly not sure how long ago it was since I got my last supplies, but I think it might have been August of last year. It's currently May. I went back to my doctor in March, who told me they'd send the script over THAT DAY since I was in desperate need of new ones. My biggest problem is that I always want to believe the best in people, and assume they'll get it done. So here it is now, almost June, and I'm no better off than I was months ago. I'd like to think that this was just some fluke, but a. see all the other reviews here, and b. I only got my last supplies because I called and harassed them then, as well. I'm not familiar enough with medical supply companies to know where to go. But I figure, at this point, I can go ANYWHERE and my service can't get any worse, right? Service has become no longer exists. They don't answer phone, don't return calls. I'm on CPAP therapy and they are supposed to deliver supplies every 90 days. It's March 10, 2024 and my last supply was 10/23. I was due resupply in January. They are very late. 3 weeks ago, I was able to them on the phone. (After 45 min and multiple calls). That had a lame excuse and promised to rush my order. 2 weeks later, I left a message requesting an update. No response in a week. I'm done. Ready to switch providers. My CPAP died a month ago. Finally got all the paperwork submitted to MED and have heard nothing back. Called 12/5/2024 at 1pm and stayed in the waiting que for an hour. I've been getting my CPAP supplies from this company for years. Since early 2024 they stopped sending them to me. I've made 4 phone calls to them over the past 2 months. I am given the runaround. I've been told they didn't have my doctor's new order. I see my doctor once a year. They should have been able to call his office to get a new order if that was what was needed. I saw the doctor 4/04/24 and a new order was sent to them. I called a couple of weeks later when I still didn't get a shipment and was told that my rep was new and is behind. Then, the next time I called I was told the supplies were shipped out already. That was a lie. That was over 3 weeks ago and still no supplies. I recently had my CPAP machine quit working overnight. I called the company and they said I could bring it in and they would have a look at it. I went in and the staff was wonderful! The technician Glenn came out we talked, he took my machine and determined it had a bad power board, he gave excellent advice, had a loaner for me immediately. I called my Pulmonologist to approve a new machine and the order to my insurance company was on it's way. This company and It's teammates do an exceptional job and I am thankful for them and their professionalism.. I have had a CPAP for over 15 years and have been with this company for over 5 years. I have used MED in the past (5 years ago) and they were great! I recently had to get a new CPAP machine and I thought it would be good to stick with MED. That was the WORST mistake I have made in a long time! I have been trying for the last two and a half months to get the new CPAP. My doctor confirmed sending the order over. I was able to call one time and got someone who said they had to verify my insurance and then would call me back with an appointment. That callback never happened. I have received a few messages from a Mary who claims to be the manager of the VA Beach location. She has promised my doctor that she would call me back at least three times. I have never received a call back. When I call, my messages are never answered! This company is horrible now and I would never recommend them for anything!!! If I could give zero stars, I would! DO NOT USE THEM!!! Ask your provider to send your orders to another company!!! read more

They never answer the phone. You have to leave a message. If you leave a message, they rarely call back. They sure as hell don't check up on you or make themselves available to answer questions about how to possibly make the equipment work for you or help you solve problems. You cannot try on the masks before you commit, so you're just out of luck if you don't get one that works for you in the allotted time. And I'm pretty sure they gave me the wrong size at least once. To add to that, the man I spoke to there today was rude and condescending. I may be just old enough to get Medicare, but I still have a working brain, have owned and run a business for over 25 years, and I can say that I would not still be in business if I ran it like they do. I would say try somewhere else before coming here. I have a foster child that had been needing his mask changed for a while. I called and was told they had not received the order. I think they were looking at someone else's records. Finally when they asked me if he still had Tricare and I said he doesn't have Tricare, they look further. This child needed his mask changed for about a good 4 months if not longer. This is simply ridiculous. Do I recommend Medical Distributor? The answer would have to be no, unless you are willing to go back and forth until you get what a needed. They can be very uncoordinated. They need to make lots of changes before getting a good rating from me. read more

If I could give them a zero, I would. For two weeks I have been asking for a refill on supplies. I ordered through the website and followed up with an email to the manager. I had to contact her again to find out if she ordered my supplies. She said she didn't know and said she forwarded my email to my insurance rep at their company. She didn't tell me the name of the person handling my account. I waited two more days and tried to call my insurance rep twice. Both times the people answering the phone would not tell me if my insurance rep or the manager were in the office and would not tell me if they had ordered my supplies. This is the worst place. I was in for a new machine on Monday the 9th and Amanda was very pleasant. Only problem was that she said the Zest mask that I love and have been using for years was discontinued and told me of one they had that was similar. She really didn't know other than eyeballing what size I would need. The first night I got the red "mask wrong"sign. I reread instructions on how to get it on correctly. Second night still not good. Every night after that bad. Bottom line I got my first good night sleep after 10 days because I finally went online to Direct Medical and ordered from them the Zest mask I have been getting from them for years. Apparently it was not discontinued but just not an option at their place. This was all after several attempts to get in touch with anyone for over a week leaving messages. Nine days later late on a Friday I was left a message from someone saying Amanda had been out on the office and she would be back on Tuesday. She said she hoped I had been able to fix my problem. This morning I got another Voicemail asking me if I would call back with the SS# on the back of the machine. I was asked for that a month ago and I sent it to them. This company is ridiculous. BTW you need an extension number to get a message to anyone and when they call they never leave a call back number or extension number. Website is antiquated and not user friendly. It seems that whoever runs this business does not want to update their website. Yes, these issues can be fixed with calls but busy people would rather you get with the times and automate this stuff...especially when we have a lot of other medical affairs to keep up with at the same time. The big problems are: -The site map itself is not user friendly or modeled after user friendly systems that most people can navigate with ease. -The website doesn't provide any tracking for shipped orders. It's hard to tell if your supplies have ever actually arrived and you get bogged down with pieces not knowing what needs to be replaced when. -The website doesn't allow you to see in real time when you are eligible for insurance-covered supplies. This means you either have to keep up with it yourself or use their auto process, which has lots of problems (see below). -Problems with auto renew system: First off, supplies don't come on time. Secondly, the invoices don't explain what you are paying for or provided the aforementioned tracking. Lastly, their payment system does not allow for a secondary/backup form of payment, which is very important for those of us that have FSA/HSA acccounts (the former of which is designed to run out of funds or you just lose your money at the end of the year). -Email notifications are inconsistent with some coming through and some not coming through...its quite exhausting to keep up with all of this because you can't trust a simple POS (point of sale...before you are thinking of another acronym) site. read more

This place has horrible customer service. I have been lied to so many times I've lost count. My supplies were delivered on time for the first year however this year has been a complete disaster. I have called this place probably 6 times trying to get my supplies. Each time they tell me they need a new prescription, so I have my doctors office send it again. They tell me that they have received my prescription and after several weeks no supplies. I call to find out whats going on and I get the same run around. In the Virginia Beach area, Medical Equipment Distributors was my third company because my first two were terrible. Since I started using MED about 2 years ago, I have had a great experience. My supplies have always arrived on time, and the boxes have consistently been accurate. Any time there has been an issue with Tricare's billing mistakes, MED has promptly resolved the problems. They've been the only supplier in VB for cpap for years. When you have the time to go, sit & wait you can get your supplies - and front desk clerk is polite & accommodating. However, any situation which depends on someone in office (tech, insurance, etc) has required multiple calls & visits to push it through. Their office staff told me today, they have many ppl to service, not just me - not a very nice feeling. Honestly, I was appalled. Their ins rep did not have drs orders and could not be bothered to tell me - became hurried & flustered upon my direct inquiry. Then said she'd get to it in 5-7days ("many ppl to service"). So my day was wasted - again. My pulmonologist knows supplies are a problem. I will tell him I was not able to get cpap supplies again. Someone please open a cpap store w/ office staff who can do their job. Nothing personal, no hard feelings. I had a very positive experience when visiting MED. Starting with the gracious receptionist, and then with their impressive respiratory therapist Angie. I'm new to using a cpap machine and needed help in finding a mask that would fit my face without leaking. Angie truly cared about helping me and answered my many questions. I was so impressed with her knowledge and passion in her field of study. The company had a few negative reviews, but to me it's all about connecting with the right person. ******NO COMPASSION****I have been trying to reach management, the director, about a broken cpap machine. I traveled over 29 miles with my 3 children, including my disabled son to get my cpap fixed. I asked for a loaner cpap, until insurance can give me a new one, the lady said well: I can fix this one. So after 15 minutes the cpap appeared to work, but I still requested a loaner cpap to resolve the issue, that was not done. I traveled all the way back home to find out the cpap would not work that night. They are bias and have no compassion for me or my health. read more

The Virginia Beach location never disappoints. I took a day off of work to specifically go there to be geared out with my new CPAP. I was made aware that they typically get booked up to a week and a half out. I don't understand why they can't do their jobs and provide much needed supplies! I receive things I never ordered. I received a chin strap and I use the headgear. I received several masks in one order (I still have 7 and one of them is small instead of medium). I tried to order a short time before I was completely out and I was told Medicare would not pay, but yet I have all of the masks! I am using supplies that should be disposed of. If I get a lung infection, then what. Do I sue? I suppose I will need to find another distributor if it doesn't improve. Don't waste your time by even starting with them. read more
