Late for appt. Told me to contact my politicians to complain about being late. Wrote a prescription but put the wrong patients name on it. Took a month to schedule an appointment for an infection. Prescription is usually for dogs - less common for humans. No confidence that the diagnosis was correct. Appeared not to read the technician's notes on why I was there. Told me I had blepharitis which I already knew but that's not the reason I went there. Will not go back. read more

I am commenting now only about the optical shop - my experiences with the medical side have been uniformly excellent. When I went to replace my progressive (distance) glasses with prism lenses (to correct double vision) and computer glasses without prism, they quoted a price of $6,200, including a charge of $4000 for the prism refraction with lenses made by Zeiss. The next day I discovered that COSCO Optical can provide similar frames and same lenses for only $330 (20 times cheaper) with lenses made by COSCO Optical Lab. I am not aware of any complaints by other customers about the quality of prism lenses made by COSCO. The prices at Medical Eye Center are way out of line. read more

Zero star. All the negative reviews about the Medical Eye Center at both locations, Olney and Columbia, are true. I tried both locations myself and noticed that they take everything they can from your insurance, even if the test isn't necessary. I had a referral that allowed for two visits (per referral request), and they make you keep coming back, saying they need to monitor something or discuss it at the next appointment. They even make you worry so much about your eye condition to make you come back from the 15 minute first check-up (always rushing!). Then, when the next appointment comes, they tell you there's nothing, or not progressing (which is good) so basically to make it short- she was lying, the doctor just want you to come back, just because your insurance will let you! She will suggest to come back again in five months or so (the maximum allowable visits per my insurance). And i bet, this same scenario will happen again for each visit. I won't coming back! From my four visits (yes, I went four times hoping the practice would change), I noticed they're just in it for the money, with no care for the patients at all. They were always in a hurry, seeing you for less than 15 minutes per check-up. They were late every time, and the waiting time was longer than the actual appointment. Trust me, l've seen two different female doctors here, and in my opinion, both were unskilled. It was definitely a waste of my time and money. This business should not continue. Shame on the moneymaking scheme here --I hope they either change for the better or may face consequences someday. read more

Avoid this eye practice. Communication almost non existent. Failed to order my eye drops before surgery. When didn't arrive with them they went ahead with surgery anyway. Found out 5 days later they were supposed to order the drugs and I was to start taking them 3 days in advance. They ordered after the fact name brand drugs. After insurance one cost $80.00. Even worse when I couldn't get drugs the weekend physician contact number was out of order. Thoroughly disgusted. No explanation by the Dr. On post op visit why each drug for and any need to make up for no drugs in advance. Yes you can get an infection in your eye list cataract surgery. And lose your eye or the infection go to your brain and die. Do not use anyone at this practice. They have endangered my life and that is not an exaggeration read more

These folks are just terrific!! They took me on short notice this past Wednesday, and yet I was still in and out in a timely manner. The receptionists are awesome!! :) And I adore the Dr. who treated me. He was so kind and patient and thorough. I highly recommend this office. read more

First time here. It felt very assembly-line/robotic with no continuity of service, just hand off to 1, hand off to 2, to 3, see ya later. The front desk check in lady was fantastic. The check out lady was...NOT, annoyed and irritable. I had to go back in to ask for a copy of my prescription. I had to ask how/when to use the eye drops. I had to go back in again to ask for a computer lens RX. The woman who did my eye check and RX was not the doctor and I'm not confident at all about the RX. The doctor came in and was good, I felt confident about her, but I wouldn't go back here. read more

I am over the moon with the care that I received from Dr. Hammer and Andy at Medical Eye Center Doctors. I am a transplant from another State, so I had not established a new provider for my eye care. (I am extremely nearsighted) so it is important that my eyes are corrected properly. I went to another facility last year and have been struggling with my visions since that time. The MEC team were able to fix me up and send me on my way, increasing my quality of life more than I could have imagined. I live in Southern PG county and often times doctors offices are cold and unwelcoming. It takes me close to 45 minutes to travel to MED and honestly, it is worth it. I've been to the MEC maybe 3-4 times and every time I am so impressed with their staff. The two ladies that work at the front desk are so friendly and welcoming. They interact with patients in the waiting room and it makes the whole process far from mundane like a usual doctors office visit. My eye Dr. is great as well. Dr. Lima recently did some reconstructive surgery on my eye and it has healed wonderfully. In all MEC is an great place of business and I would highly recommend their services. read more

I go to the center yearly for diabetic care, ever since Dr. Hammer did cataract surgery on me some years back. I simply would not trust anyone else with my vision. I credit him with saving my sight. The house optical specialist is amazing and answers all my questions, taking time to explain my condition and presenting any options I may have. I have always had a great experience with Medical Eye Center, but this last visit was the final straw for me. I usually go to get my annual exams and for my contacts prescription. I've had an issue with the front desk billing me for the $35 contacts evaluation fee that I can "opt out" of. I have asked to opt out without them honoring it. Also, I didn't even get evaluated for contact lenses at times, and they still charge it. They say that they're supposed to charge this fee every two years, yet they still charge me every year that I visit. They also tell me that I need an exam every year for my prescription refill for contacts, but then they tell me it's actually every two years. They still want me to come back every year anyway. My main issue is that yesterday, I went to them for my annual exam. Everything was fine during the visit as usual. After I left, my left eye started swelling up. I had perfectly healthy eyes before the visit, and my eye started getting swollen/painful after I left. My upper eyelid is now swollen, and I can't open my eye. It's very painful, and I'm not sure if it's from dirty equipment/infection or the tear drops that they put in. I called them about this right away, and they were very rude in letting me know that they'll see what's available. I told them it's painful and urgent, and they said that my usual doctor isn't in. I asked if she could at least be contacted about this, and they said no. I couldn't believe the level of poor service they provided in response to something they did. This is the health of my eye. All that they did was to call me back to let me know that they clean their equipment. They didn't bother to make sure that my eye was okay, which is incredulous coming from eye doctors. I have gone to them for many years and put up with being charged extra fees for services that I don't get. But this was unacceptable. I will never be going back, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

I took my child to this office last week. Staff was very friendly, but eye exam was not comprehensive. The eye exam was done by a staff member (not sure if he was optometrist or not, he didn't introduce himself). The eye exam was done really fast. Eye pressure exam was not done. Color eye test was not done. I thought the Ophthalmologist (Dr. Lui) was going to re-check the exam, but no. He only did dilated eye check and that was it. The prescription increase in my child is significantly high, so I'm concern the eye exam was not done correctly. I am taking my child to a different place to check this prescription before buying glasses. read more

Sounds like what you should get in any medical office but I have been finding that professionalism is lacking most places I go. I stated in my previous review that the doctors in this practice are excellent. They have proven not only to be of the very highest quality in their professional practice but in their character as well. One of the doctors met with me in person (of his own accord, not by my request) to express concern that I was not receiving the caliber of treatment he wishes all his patients to receive. It deeply concerned him that I had been mistreated and he assured me it would be remedied. He was very compassionate and genuinely caring. After our conversation I feel confident that the issues I had previously will no longer exist. I am grateful for these doctors who value their patients so highly. read more
