We came in to use the bathroom and stayed for a Cortado and a cappuccino. My Cortado was very good. Because my wife was in the bathroom I asked them to wait to make the cappuccino until she had come out, but they ignored my instructions and I didn't feel like pushing the point that I should have. The space itself is oriented towards coffee. There are some cushion seats along the walls and firmer seating on the chairs. I grew up with a Medici Café and pizzeria in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago and I have to wonder if they have any relation to that business or perhaps just licensed the name It certainly is good coffee and if I lived in Austin, I would probably take some whole beans home for my home espresso machine. read more

We asked the barista if they could make the rosemary honey matcha as an iced drink instead of a latte and they said yes since it's just a syrup swap. We got it iced at 16 oz ($7.45) with Oatly milk ($1). The syrup was thick and had a really strong rosemary flavor. It was intriguing but not really for me. I really like this coffee shop. The barista was very friendly. The day I was there, unfortunately, there weren't many pastries available due to an unusually busy day, for which he was very apologetic. That said, his recommendation about the remaining items was nice to have. I also appreciated that I was asked about the milk type I wanted for my hot chocolate. When orders were ready, the baristas sounded cheerful announcing each for pick up. This isn't a cold place with lifeless enthusiasm. My hot chocolate wasn't too sweet and, thankfully, didn't come with a big squirt of whipped cream. My chocolate croissant was lovely, crisp, and flaky. It had a beautiful shine as well. The vibe was very chill. I saw people on laptops, pairs at tables in conversation. The store is also very open. The large counter is set in the middle of the store with seating on the side opposite the register. With the space inside it, it contributes to the open feel. I decided to stop by on a Wednesday afternoon for a little pick me up matcha. I liked that despite it being a small space there was a lot of seating options both inside and outside without it feeling too crowded. I got the matcha and it was delicious! Loved the space of this location for Medici Roasting and had a pleasant workspace for about two hours. My cold brew was nicely served and had a great flavor palette. It had a lovely setup and the wifi was so strong it was able to be seamless for about ten patrons with ease. Not sure how to explain it but it felt like I was at a coffee shop in Diagon Alley (for those who are fans of Harry Potter). It had a whimsical feeling to it. If weather permits, you can take advantage of their outdoor patio seating on the sidewalk of this shopping center. Parking isn't really accessible on the street, but there are a few parking garages to utilize. I believe the parking of garage 3 is the closest to the coffee shop and is complimentary. read more

Medici is overpriced for the coffee. The coffee is fine but nothing special. $7.50 for a small latte? No thanks. I tried the seasonal peach cobbler latte this time which was kinda gross, like artificial tasting but that's probably why you don't see peach lattes around much, so can't fault them for that too much. Had to pick up funiture nearby and found this Coffee spot was the closest! Parking for retail is located in BLDG#2 parking garage (look for graffiti on the wall) on the right side of Alamo theater. I ordered 3 items and found out the barista forgot 2 of the items of my order: Garlic bagel, and Cinnamon Nut Pastry. (I think She was new, still getting comfortable with taking orders). What a chill coffee shop in the middle of bustling Lamar square. I did walk right by it. The door is solid metal and appears old. Stopped in and enjoyed a seasonal iced pumpkin latte and cinnamon apple scone. After 3, pastries are half off with your drink. The decor is rustic with comfy strategically scuffed booths. I just sat and chilled with my coffee, no hurry to leave. It reminds me a bit of a college coffee bar. Charming, definitely will return next time I'm here. I want to express my supreme dissatisfaction with the changes in pricing for a CUP OF TEA. Previously I was very satisfied with the fact that I could come in and have a very nice tea -- in a pitcher which produced about 3 small cups of tea -- for the reasonable price of around $3. This was the perfect sweet spot in which I felt comfortable with the price, as tea and water are very inexpensive and I was sure that at a 3-ish dollar price point they were making a small profit and I was enjoying the experience before seeing a movie at Alamo next door. So we get to my recent experience. I was going to see a movie and, as part of this ritual, was looking forward to having a nice cup of tea before hand, maybe even buy a pastry. The line was long, but I was happy to wait. As I glanced at the wall menu I noticed the price on the wall for tea had gone up to something like 5 dollars. This is not a rational price for a cup of tea; I am sure that the margins were increased, instead of maintaining a fair price for the product. I get to the register and internally begrudgingly, but with a pleasant attitude (as of course non of this is the baristas problem) ordered my tea which came out to almost 6 dollars -- outrageous. The cherry on top was that it was put in a to go cup, no pitcher, and assuredly less tea than I would have received in said pitcher. These words are an injustice to my level of disappointment. When I first discovered Medici, with their great atmosphere and reasonable prices for a good cup of tea, I was happy to have a new aspect to my solo movie watching escapades, but as a result of this experience and the way in which they seem intent to gouge customers on the price of their tea, I will not be returning unless I somehow discover that they have repented for their sins of greed and returned to a reasonable price. Located in the complex with Alamo Theatre and various other eateries, Medici is a good place to come, get coffee, and catch up with anyone. They have both indoor and outdoor seating - and all beverage options I would want. I ordered a refreshing iced tea, which was perfect for an uncharacteristically warm day in January. Service was kind. While it may not be one of the top "coffee destinations" in Austin, it is the perfect spot for a morning meeting/friend catch-up/place to relax solo. There are so many local coffee shops in Austin and Café Medici is one of my favorites. Their coffee is smooth and tasty. I was at Lamar Union around late morning where I had no problem finding a parking spot in the garage. They have outdoor seating and places to hangout with your pets. Inside will find remote workers and some just hanging out. I walked around the barista counter to staring at a few choices of coffee beans to take home and selected a bag. Caffé Medici do not bag their own beans where they sell local Austin brands. I selected Wild Gift Coffee. I ordered a small coffee to go and I noticed they accept Apple Pay. This place is very dog friendly. This location is roomy and besides coffee they have a few beers on tap. So there was no where to sit inside so I went outside to enjoy my coffee. read more

This was frustrating because we came here one day and the coffee was pretty decent. The next day we came in at 6:40 (they close at 7) and order a cortado and they said they had already shut down the espresso machine. I get it - you want to go home, but closing down 20 min before the store hours seems dramatic. We went across the street to Merit where a local told me they weren't surprised and it's why they don't go anymore. Again - the coffee was pretty good. Then when they were done, they handed us iced lattes. So we waited another 20 minutes for them to make us the two hot lattes. The two gentlemen running the operation this morning simply are not that. I landed at Caffe Medici looking for a place to grab something to eat and spin my wheels for an hour before a meeting. It's on a quiet recently developed lane way, set away from the traffic din of Lamar. If you need to pass some time here, it's an ideal place, because they have lots of interior and outdoor seating. Its food offerings were a bit of a disappointment--everything pre-made in packages, but it's also my fault for gambling on a coffee place to grab lunch. I settled on a hummus pack, kind of like a healthier version of a Lunchable, with hummus and veggies and crackers for dipping. All fine, if a bit non-descript and pricey. The iced hibiscus tea was strong and refreshing on the warmer day. The interior of this shop is gorgeous, like something out of Architectural Digest. I've recently been on a coffee shop binge, going around the city to find fun shops to work in. I had heard tons of people talking about Medici, but finally had the chance to come check it out. This shop has a few locations but this is the only one I have been to. I came here around 2pm on a Wednesday and sat outside. Unfortunately, the internet was pretty bad out there so I decided to give it a second shot inside. Inside was a whole different story. I was able to get a seat and a table inside and sat there for close to 4 hours. The baristas were incredibly friendly and able to get me any drink needed. I will say, this place does not have a large amount of seating inside with tables but luckily it wasn't too crowded. The music played was quiet enough to not bother you but loud enough to keep you entertainined. I will defnitely be back here to do some more work. read more

There's not much to say about Medici other than it's a solid choice when you're on south Lamar. Alamo Drafthouse's coffee program leaves something to be desired so I'm glad you're here, Caffe Medici. We weren't sure where to place our empties after we finished so we set them on the bar and the lazy young slob of a barista who was sitting at the bar looking at her phone snapped at us to put it in the bussing tub (which we obviously did not see). Great coffee shop so unique, kind of getting tired of the white plain uncomfortable coffee shops this place has a good balance of comfy seating with leather booth type seating and areas for studying. The walls are really artsy and designed well with some wood paneling and wall papers that make it a relaxing ambiance. Good overall lay out with the espresso bar centered in full view. They have outside seating as well. They do have kombucha by the bottle three flavors very tasty. Had a cortada which was perfect. Customer service was excellent.
