First off, I'm not sure how this place can be called a museum. There are zero artifacts or relics from the medieval times. It's completely comprised of models and recreations. Had it been called the Medieval Torture learning center at an entrance fee of $10 then I would possibly recommend. Don't get me wrong, we did learn a few interesting things. The "museum" itself is VERY misleading.

Fun, but short experience to try once. Pretty small space that we ended up walking through a few times to kill time. I'm aware the ticket price includes the audio guide and ghost hunting experience, but still too expensive for what it is. Not super interactive and pretty repetitive overall. More of a photo op than a museum. Wouldn't say it was horribly gruesome, but I'm also not squeamish in the slightest. Unless there was an expansion of some sort I couldn't imagine it being worth a second visit. Gift shop was very generic - seems like a missed opportunity to incorporate local chicago artists.

Great time and worth the visit to fill in 60-90 minutes of time. Looking for something entertaining and different to fill in a few hours, the medieval torture museum delivered what I wanted. The graphic displays of medieval torture were both entertaining and terrifying at the same time, and that is basically what you expect and receive. My only blemish's was the price point, other than that I enjoyed the experience.

Cool, but definitely overpriced for what it is. For two people, we paid $71 for entrance. The museum itself is just about 3-4 of rooms on a single floor; the price of admission comes with an audio guide. We walked through the entire thing in about 30 mins, which is the perfect amount of time for what this is, but admission shouldn't have cost more than $20 pp.

Very cool I had a lot of fun. Lots of weird stuff to look at. For the price it isn't bad plus you can touch anything you want also

If you're looking for something fun to do, look no further! I went and absolutely loved it! I felt like I learned so much...and it's the largest torture museum ever! Lots of fun places to take pics, too! Highly recommend!

The atmosphere & detail of the props & information on the plaques was worth every penny. Highly recommend to learn more about this dark side of human history. Plus the bathrooms were super clean!

Really awesome fun and interactive museum! Definitely worth the trip if you are in Chicago

This was great! It was very interesting knowing what happened to people, highly recommend visiting!

Amazing! It was very interesting seeing how much torture was done back then. People suffer the most insane deaths. This Museum is a must to visit! He had an audio guide in got all the information. Definitely worth it!

What is the bag and food/drink policy for the medieval torture museum?

No drinks allowed. No lockers available. Can take a bag though.

Is this ok for a 12 year old that is not sensitive to gore and loves horror movies?

It's interesting and a great learning experience. We did it for our kids when they were 12.

How long is the audio tour?

It's as long or short as you want it to be!! There are little information signs next to each exhibit, but the audio tour gives you even more info on each piece. Each exhibit has a number, you just hit play on the corresponding number on the audio…

I took my seven year old but think that the normal exhibits are probably better for children who are a bit older, maybe ten and up. The Pokemon special exhibit was great for kids. It does get crowded so trying to be near the front of the line or at the back with a chill, leisurely pace is a good idea. The entries are timed and groups sort of walk through like a snake. Merch is available with a special voucher only and the worthwhile items are the Excavator Pikachu plush and t-shirts unique to the special exhibit. Most of the offerings are available online at similar prices. But be ready for crowds, expensive food, unruly school/camp groups, and restrooms that have no paper towels. We went on a Thursday in July and walking was a struggle in the main hall. My mom got stepped on.

From books that are outdated or books that you buy and forget about or gift them to someone you hate. Clothing is really all they have that is decent. Pokemon store is 3 stars at best. While the museum is 4 floors, the exhibits weren't as plentiful. The 1st floor is basically their cafe. The 2nd and 4th floors are prob the floors with more artwork. The 3rd fl felt like an "in-between" floor. Thankfully, the Yoko Ono exhibit was on display, which featured several interactive activations, like a Wish Tree or writing on a wall, which were fun. Their Museum Shop also spans from floors 1-2. I wouldn't say that this museum has the popular artists. The overall artworks are a mix of abstract, photography, and mixed media. I wouldn't recommend it as a "Must See" for tourists, personally. However, I'm an art enthusiast and still thought it was a decent museum to walk through. Perhaps opt for the Suggested Donation for this one.

There were a few writing stations with activities, such as writing about your mom and taping it to the wall, and writing a wish on a tag and tying it to the wish tree. One room was blue and there were blue markers available and people were encouraged to add to it. Fabulous venue!

You'll definitely learn a lot - plan at least 3 hours. The only thing that could have improved the experience would be better designed plaques with text (or lighting). Some of them were hard to read because it was either too dark in the room or the text was white color on yellow / pale-blue background which didn't provide enough contrast.
