I worked with the Obalon Center In January, I can say now what a huge mistake it was. If I had any…read moreadvice on the product and center - it would be turn around and don't do it. From the first consultation with the "doctor" (I use quotations for the level of professionalism and care provided by this person) and a tech - walking in the room and not being acknowledged at all or told what the appointment was for, all the while tech and "doctor" bantering back and forth ignoring that I was in the room discussing other patients. I am not in the medical field but I believe this would be in the hippa violation category. I can summarize my experience from there, I should have walked out after that as an indicator and never looked back. I went through with the procedure and got one of the balloons - I have never experienced more pain in my life. I followed the directions to a T and called every day to talk to the "doctor" and was told everything from eat a couple carrots to pile on more prescriptions to help. NOTHING helped, I could not sit, stand, lay down let along workout without being in extreme pain and the scariest was not being able to breathe. The topper is if you aren't eating every 2 hours the pain goes from an 8 to a 12. Isn't it to help you NOT eat as much? After 4 days with this in I made the necessary decision I needed to have it removed IMMEDIATELY. I couldn't breathe and all they were doing is asking me to keep taking meds and eat carrots. Only after I requested the removal did anyone call with real concern - the "doctor" I spoke to daily wrote everything off as normal. They did attempt to talk me in to getting a second balloon to help?! Which if one was causing so many issues how would two feel? I had the removal the week after I had the balloon in and was told by the endoscopy facility I now had a hiatal hernia, which explains the incredible pain and difficulty breathing. I attempted a refund based on this experience but have been met with the front desk worker sending a very low partial offer. The kicker is the misinformation the "doctor" has given to myself and my credit card company as a version of the real story. The advice is, turn around and don't do it. There is a reason why reputable surgeons don't offer this and they had to create an independent clinic to sell this. DON"T DO IT. If this honest review saves even one person the pain I went through, it's worth broadcasting.

AVOID!!!! Please do yourself a favor. Take the $6k you'd spend on these balloons and invest in a…read morepersonal trainer and a meal prep company. These balloons do absolutely nothing. I lost weight on the balloons because I started going to the gym 2x a day and ate less calories. These balloons made me feel like i was starving, then when i did eat, my body forced me to throw up what i ate because i felt so full. I woke up nauseas every single day. There is no way the positive reviews are legitimate. My experience with Obalon from day 1 was awful. I started by talking to the dietician - in the middle of our conversation the doctor popped her head into our room and said 'i just got a call from that psycho patient - it's your turn'..... Okay then. After the first balloon, I felt awful. I was so hungry all the time, and I would eat a full meal and still be starving. The doctor just kept telling me to eat carrots.... then she put me in two different types of medicine to sustain my hunger. One med made me feel like a zombie and the other made me an insomniac. After going for the second balloon, the doctor told me i was actually under the weight I should have been to have been approved for the balloons and they may not work. She told me this AFTER I GOT MY SECOND BALLOON. Three months passed before I lost a pound and I only lost weight because I started intermittent fasting, ate 1000 calories a day and did two 1 hr workouts a day, 6 days a week. The balloons did nothing for me besides give me stomach ulcers and extreme discomfort. The dietician called my emergency contact (my mom) thinking it was me and disclosed my personal information. in addition, you're supposed to receive 12 months of dietician guidance - I met with the dietician 2x and one was for the consultation. When i needed to set up my balloon removal, they took over TWO WEEKS TO ANSWER ME. I was in extreme pain and needed them remove but I got radio silence from them until i called a third party company to get in contact with them. i would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. this is absolutely the worst investment for weight loss and the WORST customer service I have ever experienced with AWFUL doctors that don't care about anything besides giving you pills. They do not care about you after they have your money.

Silvergate Medical - $400 bill to collections which could've been avoided. All due to lack of communication and incompetent Office staff.

To put it into perspective for you: whenever I think about moving away from San Diego, I think about how hard it'll be to find a doctor who can fill her shoes. The first appointment included both a thorough consultation and check up. During the consult, we talked through all mine and my my family's medical history. I've lost my father, uncle, and grandfather in the last decade, so having someone who will take the time to understand my family history is huge (not only for health but for peace of mind). She's kind and composed with great bedside manner, but also direct and honest. She takes the time to actually explain health processes and it's extremely evident that she cares about her patients and her practice. Be honest with her about your concerns and how you're living day to day if you want to make the most of your appointments. She'll help you gameplan your health goals and asks that you check in with any concerns after the visit (super rare in my experiences). Dealing with insurance, booking appointments, and filling prescriptions is never fun, but don't let annoyance with these medical norms prevent you from finding a truly great doctor like Edit. Pro tip for visiting this small office: bring a book to read for the waiting room and understand that even if this small practice gets a bit behind schedule, the wait is worth the care and attention you'll receive. Also notice how despite an occasional wait, this place still deserves 5 stars in my book.

What started great became a huge disappointment--especially for patients on Medicaid…read more At first, this facility and Dr. Hegyi were great--attentive, communicative, and thorough. But as time went on, that quickly changed. I'm not sure if it was because my mom has government-provided insurance (Community Health Group), but the care and service she received noticeably declined. Her in-person appointments were suddenly switched to virtual, and the doctor consistently showed up extremely late--or not at all. And I don't mean 10 or 30 minutes late--I'm talking 2 to 4 hours late, or completely missing the appointment with no notice. We'd have to reschedule for the next day, only to sit in the digital waiting room for hours again. When I asked about returning to in-person visits, I was told those were "for paying customers," not those using Medicaid. That kind of distinction feels discriminatory and elitist. Communication became incredibly difficult. I had to call multiple times just to get help with urgent medical issues, and getting a straight answer became almost impossible. Then my mom--who is 100% disabled, relies solely on Social Security, and lives well below the poverty line--was blindsided with a bill of over $400. She had no idea she even had a co-pay. No one ever explained this, and it was never brought up during visits. I called her insurance provider myself and found out that billing was never properly submitted, even though my mom has dual coverage. I left a detailed voicemail explaining this. I followed up a week later. I emailed them on February 20 and March 7. Still--no response. And now my mom has been sent to collections over something she was never told about and that could've been easily resolved had anyone returned a call or sent an email. This might be a minor inconvenience for office staff, but for someone sick and in poverty, this is immensely stressful. And that stress is now affecting her health. Internalized stress in someone already disabled is dangerous. The real issue isn't just a billing mistake--it's the complete breakdown of communication, professionalism, and care. Had we been private pay clients, I truly believe the attentiveness would have been entirely different. That's the part that's most upsetting. We weren't treated like human beings--we were treated like less. DO BETTER. Patients deserve respect no matter how they pay. The way this was handled was not just disappointing--it was completely unacceptable.
