They've got bowling lanes, a pool table, some claw machines and vending machines, and next door, the Viking Valhalla restaurant/bar. It's convenient to be able to walk into the bar to order beers and drinks and food and more. The bartender was super nice, as was really everyone we met. Basically, the beer is cheap, the shoes were in decent shape, and the lanes were open. We didn't get any wings this time, but I think that's in the cards next time. The only drawbacks, as I see them: 1. They seem to have a lot of rules. Only our youngest kids could use the bumpers, as they were worried about damage. They also watched us pretty closely to make sure all shoe rules were being followed. Maybe that's just because we were just about the only folks in there. That said, the place is clean and well kept, which I imagine is because they are vigilant. 2. I got a lot of false hope after throwing two strikes right out of the gate. I've always wanted to check it out, so it was a real treat! The alley itself is on the smaller side, but it's decorated very nicely and has an arcade attached. There's a bar too which is always a plus! We ate dinner there - pizza and various appetizers. The chicken finger pizza was incredible, and I snagged a chicken wing egg roll as well, which was just as decadent. It's not cheap to bowl here. There's definitely more affordable options, so I don't think I'd necessarily list the Spare Room as a top choice if I were to have a bowling get-together in the future. But it was really neat, and if you do get the chance to experience it, you should take it. All in all, The Spare Room is a nice addition to 500 Pearl and Downtown Buffalo as a whole. We ended up having a fantastic time, and I was really happy with how the party went. The man who booked it for us, I think the owner, was really nice and helpful and in the booking process. I was extra happy when, after I picked a package and gave him a number of people, he allowed me to only pay for the food of the people not bowling despite the package being a set price for food, bowling, and shoes. I expected to pay a flat rate for all, despite my parents not wanting to bowl, so I thought it was kind that he didn't have me pay for them for bowling. The party went off without a hitch! Everyone got shoes and they put us in a couple lanes on the side of the alley so it was more private. They also dimmed the lights so we got to have midnight bowling. Our food package included pizza, wings, salad, and pop. I also added on some nachos and fries, and I was able to have a tab at the bar for pitchers of beer. Speaking of the beer, they had a wide selection of them available for pitchers, including many local and some hard cider! The food was set up right behind the lanes for us so we didn't even need to leave them to eat. I wouldn't expect a bowling alley to have really good food, but we all loved it and my family, often picky about wings, were raving about them. Overall, the experience was lots of fun, prices very reasonable, and friendly and helpful staff. Best part - the 90s playlist they had playing throughout, giving us the most fun nostalgia boost!! The approaches have always been clean. There are plenty of entertainment options here besides the bowling including a TouchTunes jukebox, arcade room and food and beverage options. Overall, this is a more lively and fun place to bowl than, for example, Roseland Bowl in Canandaigua which is closer to us. Also, at least as of early 2026, 3 games of open bowling costs about 4.5 dollars less per person than Roseland Bowl.

Has like 2 restaurants in there, a bar, lol. A bowling alley in my mind is a place like Sunset Bowling! Old school! A place where people used to smoke cigarettes while bowling like it was their job! All while ordering crappy food, pitchers of beer and it was just....fun! Big Al's is fine, but it's not the bowling experience kids deserve. Of course, smoking is banned everywhere now, and thank God for that. Old school bowling is just better. I can see the appeal of these new places. I mean, I was blown away by how nice Al's is, but I dunno, the old school ones just bring a whole different magic, totally different vibes, better vibes. Walking into Sunset Bowl, I was happy to see that it basically looked the same as it did when we were kids. Still had that 90s feel to it. They have definitely renovated since then (I think haha. It's been YEARS since I was last there prior to this most recent visit). But the same feeling of...good ole Americans, regular ole Americans, just having a great time...bowling! Of course there are video games and whatnot, but the main thing is...bowling. The way it should be. Games were dirt cheap. Like $5.75 I think per game. Then you rent the shoes and I ACTUALLY wore them. I did wear 2 pairs of socks tho bc ... bowling shoes...a level of ick that is off the charts! These were surprisingly...not bad and were actually...do I dare say...kinda comfortable? Last time I went here they had the gray and maroon shoes everrrry bowling alley used to have lol. There was the bar..:popcorn on the counter (like back in the day) but "popcorn stays in the bar" Hahaha so lame. I don't understand that one, but whatever. Geneva used to have Town & Country Bowling. We frequented there more often bc it was closer. They had Rock & Bowl too...which was popular when we were in high school. Very sad, but I absolutely LOVE that Sunset is still around and seems to be doing great. Has to be to still be around after all these years. Makes me happy. The five pin bowling is in the basement next to the Tavola restaurant. It is a little older than some of the 'big box' bowling places around but has ~14 lanes, some pinball machines, nice shoes, and it was a perfect Friday night out with our two young kids. They have guard rails and small bowling shoes for them which added to their excitement. It's licensed and they serve some snacks but we did not stay long enough to try anything. It was really clean and organized. Loved that they had the glow in the dark/disco bowling. The other lanes were occupied by large groups of kids (birthday?) and other families out for some fun. I'd definitely go back....a bit more interactive than our regular movie night.
