I recently hired Medina Construction Company to install man-doors on the interior of our house, new front doors, a fire-rated garage man-door and new countertops in the kitchen. His whole team did a great job, from demo, to installation. They even went above and beyond and fixed several things that I didn't even think of at no extra cost, taking into account household safety. Freddy was very reasonable to work with. He's a super busy business owner trying to run his business while also doing work in the field. A lot of the negative reviews on this site likely don't understand how difficult it is to do that. You gotta have a little bit of grace for his schedule and the other jobs they're juggling, but across the board he worked with me on timeline as we had just bought this house and wanted to move in as soon as possible, and was incredibly reasonable. From a price perspective he wasn't the cheapest, but he also wasn't the most expensive, and his prices seemed very reasonable for the quality of work. I highly recommend him. I have to say again, I think it's likely that negative reviewers here either 1) don't understand how the trades work, or 2) were likely very difficult to work with as a customer, which always makes it harder on the contractor. I worked for about 5 years as a project manager for a construction management company and can testify that there was nothing negative about my experience with Medina Construction, interacting with the young business owner, Freddy, his father, or any of his workers. read more

BEWARE! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I hired Freddy Junior at Medina's Construction to repair some water damage to my flooring. They gave me a proposal for the estimated damage of ($1,475) & then a new job order after peeling back the floor for ($7,895). They never told me the proposal & chg order were to be combined, nor did any of their paperwork reflect the $9,370 charge! They stopped my job at noon on a Monday w/o without any notification. I was staying at a friend's house while the work was being done & my neighbor texted me to let me know they had stopped the job. I called Freddy Jr. to inquire about the job stoppage & he said they wouldn't continue until they were paid in full ($9,370)! Note: this price did not include any materials. And they wanted green cash! They had me over a barrel. I asked for a discount & they agreed to $8,200 cash. I secured a personal loan to pay them & they agreed to finish the job. These pics are what my home looked like upon completion! They ran out of materials however they failed to let me know & said they just finished the job w/the materials they had. Update: My wife and I took Freddy Medina Jr & Medina's Construction Company to small claims court & we won our case on December 7th 2023. The 30 days appeal period for Freddy has passed & he has still not paid us or returned the excess slab pieces & so we are taking him back to court again but this time around he has to show the court all his assets, bank accounts & properties owned as well as explain as to why he has failed to pay us. Though the courts didn't grant us the full amount we requested we are happy that some measure of justice was served. They're one of the only General Contractor who can do absolutely everything. These guys do not need to subcontract out anything. Their cabinets are of great quality including the finish. Horrible customer service, shoddy workmanship and lack of attention to detail. The wife and I had shopped around both Home Depot & Lowes however Home Depot wanted way too much money & Lowe's couldn't offer seamless countertops. My wife & I were at the farmers market in Salinas, when we noticed a booth for Medina's Contruction Company, and we were impressed with the pictures of his work and also that he (Freddy Medina Jr.) could construct seamless countertops. So we coordinated a date for us to meet at our house so that he could look things over and give us a quote. Wel that date & time arrived but Freddy never showed nor did he call to let us know he couldn't show. Come to find out his horse got injured and he had to put it down. Sympathizing with Freddy, my wife & I coordinated another date and time to have him meet us at our house once again. Well, that date and time arrived and again Freddy was a no show (again no call out of courtesy that he wouldn't be able to make it). This time around he said his son got sick. Okay, I sympathized with Freddy and understood, well I should have taken this as a sign of things to come because Freddy is a habitual no show and always late type of person. The reaction to this was for me to continuously keep texting or calling him to ask him what's going on because he would either ignore my texts or calls as I was waiting around for him to show. He began demo on 9/14/23 and mentioned that I would also need a new cabinet, which he would construct himself after that I was without a kitchen for 9 business days at which point my cabinet & countertops finally got installed on 9/27/23. To Freddy's credit the counter tops came out great, no complaints there. However, there was much to be said in the quality and construction of the cabinet as well as the way he installed my sink. I noticed that my sink was not centered, I also noticed that the new cabinet was not flush against the back wall or to be more clear he did not measure and construct it so that it fit flush with the back wall, there was such a huge gap that both my wife and I could fit half of our hand through the gap (see picture), the new cabinet did also not fit flush with the existing cabinet. You could clearly see a gap in the corner seam. Other things of note are visible pocket screw holes on the interior of the cabinet, screws not flush and hanging out or screws not attached to the wood that the countertop sits on (see pics) On Wednesday 9/27 Freddy sent me a text stating that he would need payment before he could proceed with the work. I told him sure, that I leave for work at 7 am and he & I agreed that he would show up at 645 am on Thursday 9/28/23 so that I could give him his check. Well guess what? He shows up at 6:58 am, makes no apologies for his tardiness and I didn't get to leave my house until 7:15 am, nearly making me late for work. That Thursday I send him a text inquiring about the accessories that came with my sink that were in the box, as he took those with him when he took my sink. I also asked him about the kickplate to my cabinet as that was missing and I asked him about the cut out pieces from the countertop slabs as I was going to use those to make a table or two. Did he reply? Nope he totally ignored my questions. Anyhow I decided to take Friday 9/29/23 off and had coordinated with Freddy that we meet at my house at 1 pm..well guess what? 1 pm comes around and then 1:30 pm and then 2 pm rolls around, still no Freddy. I text him to which he replies "Sorry I was with another client and then I'm going to get some lunch, I'll be at your house 2:45ish" Well 2:45 rolls around and still no Freddy. 3 pm rolls around no Freddy...he shows up at 3:15 pm doesn't say a word and makes no apologies for his tardiness whatsoever. Anyhow, I let him in my house so that he could drill a hole in my countertop for the faucet, but I notice he has none of my sink accessories nor any of the excess pieces from the slabs, things that I paid for. He was about to drill the hole, but I stopped him and said, "before you begin, I need to point out some quality issues". I point out the fact that my sink is not centered to which he replies "It's only an eighth of an inch off and what do you want me to do about it" Naturally I tell him I want it fixed. Well, he loses it and starts telling me that he can't, how he feels he is being bullied, that he's been nothing but accommodating to my wife & I etc etc. He starts cussing saying he's been doing this for years and he never had any complaints (I guess he never reads any of the online reviews of others complaining about his punctuality and no shows as well as piss poor work). My wife tells him to watch his tone, he refuses to do so, so then she tells him to leave and instead of just leaving he continues to keep yelling. Well, I lost it and told him to get the FU** out of my house, at which point he left. Anyhow, I've hired a lawyer and will see him in court. read more

We had Medina's construction install tile over our patio cement in 2020. Within a few months the tile was coming apart in certain areas. They came out a few times to fix it. Now the same places are coming apart again. Contacted them for months with no response. Finally Freddy did contact me and say we will be out to check it out. Another couple months of me texting him and saying they will be out, now no communications at all. We did pay A LOT for this tile job. We were told we should just tear it up and start over. They did do a deck for us at the same time. We really like the deck and they did a great job with that. They are a nice family and don't like to do negative reviews. But we are very disappointed about our tile job. We want to do a bathroom remodel but i think we will look elsewhere to get that job done. read more

I've had a hard time deciding whether or not to submit review for work done about 6 years ago but every every day that I use my kitchen and bathroom I'm reminded of the remodel work done and my anger level goes up. Freddie and sons were very nice but their workmanship on kitchen cabinets is crap. I can see insulation above the dishwasher because the space was no covered to conseal the gap. Over time all the wood cutting errors on cabinets refilled with wood putty are showing. There are small holes on the face of 2 drawers that were made for unknown reason but not even an attempt to fix was made. The bathroom had been gutted but I had to hire someone else to finish it. I was charged an extra $10,000 to replace floor which I thought was going to be done in lieu of bathroom remodel. The job took about 5 months but should have taken about half that time including 2 delays for updating permits. During these 5 months, crew was not here for most of the time. I had to keep calling to have them remove garbage from yard. All kitchen appliances sat outside for 5 months, damaging seal on new dishwasher. None of my appliances escaped scratches or dents. Freddie told me twice during the construction that there would be a final walk-through; never happened. I guess at the end I was preoccupied because my father was here under hospice care so I just wanted my 5 months odyssey to end. Freddie did other things like footings under house and a termite repair so I can't say anything about that since I can't see it and don't know anything about construction. I would not recommend Medina's for cabinet making or timely completion of work. Again Freddie and sons were very nice but I am still so disappointed in workmanship and professionalism. read more

We went to Dal Tile in San Jose and picked a beautiful granite with which they pieced together beautifully. We are very happy with our new kitchen. Over priced and poor quality. We could of gotten Starmark cabinets for the same price, and done right. They fabricated the wrong counter top. I picked a totally different color and was so upset when I saw what they gave me. The cabinets were supposed to be soft close, but they used cheap hardware, or constructed poorly, that the drawers had to be yanked and slammed shut. If I had paid $200 for my vanities I would of expected this, but not when you pay $7400 for our restroom cabinets. I expected way better quality for the price. My husband trusted them, and wanted to support local small buisness. So much for that. We feel taken advantage of. My advice....go elsewhere. read more

If you have a small job (under $4000), be aware that you might not get much attention from the Medinas. After inspecting the job site, they -- Freddy, Freddy, and Francisco -- kept promising my elderly father they'd call him back with the price of his desired screen room project. "We'll call tomorrow," again and again. My dad didn't want to leave home because he was waiting for their call, which of course never came. I hated that he was so disappointed: "Did they call today, Dad?" "No, but I bet they'll phone tomorrow." And -- after maybe TEN polite, plaintive requests for a return phone call with a price, over three to four weeks -- they finally said they couldn't be bothered. I just wish they'd have been honest with us in the first place and told us they had no intention of doing the project. read more

We had our kitchen cabinets redone by Medina's Remodeling Company and we couldn't be happier with the results. The lower cabinets were rebuilt (new doors and drawers) in order to keep our existing tile counters and we had all new upper cabinets installed. The construction is all top quality. Freddy and Francisco were very attentive to our needs and incorporated all our ideas into the design. They also installed all new plugs, lights, and switches in our home, upgrading our wiring and installing a new panel for three bedrooms, two bathrooms, the kitchen, and the living room. They were very fair priced, considerably less than the bid from the large chain store. They were reliable, dependable, and made sure we were happy with the job. This is a family owned business that we learned about from their booth at the Marina Farmer's Market. If we have more projects in the future, we will be sure to call them.
