In principle I think Meditation Mount is intrinsically worth visiting. What it has unfortunately become is what will deter me from future visits. This center was founded as an area of peace, harmony, and spirituality. The various rooms for self-reflection and meditation are a testament to that. They even have a library with writings to further your understanding of health and spirit. But, at least on our recent visit, this place has become an over-exposed social media stomping grounds. People flood from all over to make sure they get their snapchat video or instagram selfie. We witnessed two couples take the entire day it seemed to make sure they had the picture that would garner them the most likes. I think the many tattered parasols the venue allows you to use are symbolic of what this place has become. People just use and abuse it in the name of seeking true enlightenment. In actuality, they've just used the parasols in 9000 angles and then simply toss it back in the bin once the photo shoot is over. They have a short trail that leads to a better view but on our visit it was closed for maintenance. I commend the people who bring a book up here and actually try to enjoy the view even while the circus is going on around them. My only hope is the social media presence here increases support to keep these grounds well-kept for the public. read more

The view and serenity here was amazing - once you get up here, you really get away from the sounds of the city and traffic and it's super quiet. Don't expect to come here for an actual hiking trail - it's just a short path that leads to a great viewpoint of the valley and mountains. I would definitely pay this a visit if you're in the area since there's not a whole lot to do in Ojai anyway except relax and veg out. There's outdoor tables and chairs where you can sit. It's an easy 10-15 minute drive from the Ojai Valley Inn and very easy to get to. It's a great area to check out at sunset for the "pink moment." read more

As a wedding venue: I was very displeased. The contract did not state that visitors would still be allowed to walk all the way up to the pond, which is basically the ceremony area. We were supposed to have it private for the wedding and photos for 2 hours. Even worse people were incredibly disrespectfully. When we told them please don't this is a private event, they complete ignore us and walked right on through! The gate should have been closed at the bottom. Cars were driving up during the ceremony! If you are in Ojai it is worth the effort to spend some time at Meditation Mount. It hosts gorgeous views, is very peaceful and will give you some time to regroup! There's an area for parking, many places to sit and enjoy the views and both a small tea and reading room. You can bring your dogs along as well, which to me is always a plus. read more

Sitting still by choice and not doing anything? No easy task for me. But if ever there was a place to inspire sitting still and just being in the presence and wonderment of the universe's beauty, this would be it. Just a short rode up from downtown Ojai, there's an amazing view from the top. I was fortunate to get to take a yoga class in the gorgeous auditorium up there. Lying on my back on the mat, I looked up to the beautiful beams that led up to a lovely sunroof that streamed light into the room. A glance in front of the auditorium revealed a majestic view of the valley. It made me want to well, meditate, and revel in this beautiful, peaceful spot. I definitely want to return and check out the garden there. They offer regular group meditations as well, so it's well worth dropping a dollar or two in the donation box to keep a place like this available to all. read more

I think I am going to go the route of the other Yelp reviewers and just ignore Dave D.'s review. First of all, having driven from LA to Ojai numerous times, I can sincerely say that it does not take 6 hours roundtrip to Ojai even in the worst traffic jam. From the westside, it can take as little as 50 minutes and at most probably 2 hours. Anyway, we made use of Meditation Mount for a memorial service and I am so glad that we did. We were limited in choices in Ojai and I don't think it could have turned out any better. The memorial was completely not religious, but there is something inherently spiritual about this spot. We chose sunset and it was gorgeous. In addition to the lovely indoor space and outdoor gardens and gathering lawn, the staff at Meditation Mount are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Maybe it's all from hanging out up here, but they just have a nice vibe. Given the circumstances, I was very happy I got to deal with this type of staff and not some of the alternatives. My family had not been to this spot before this experience, but I would consider it a must go in Ojai. In fact, I feel like I will make the pilgrimage up there on subsequent visits. You don't have to be into any new age practices in order to appreciate it here. We were upfront about our complete lack of any kind of spiritual beliefs and the staff were extremely open and sympathetic to our feelings. No pressure, just come up here and. . . exhale. read more

Just so it's clear - since I didn't get a sense of this from any of the reviews I saw and nearly missed out on this because I wasn't sure: This is NOT a hike! It's a short light walk! There's a gorgeous little pond and amazing views! We saw a grey fox while we were there! We kept hearing growling sounds and thought it might be the fox, but it was really just humming birds! My friend wanted to see the infamous "Pink Sunset" of Ojai, so we dropped by in the late afternoon, driving up a narrow, winding road. The grounds are nicely kept and one definitely feels the urge to keep silent - zen's the word! The sunset was indeed fantastic, but what impressed me more was the breath-taking 180 degree view of green pastures amidst all noises of nature. Birds calling, singing, soaring, the wind, the crickets. Ojai is tiny, but lush with life. Here, in silence, is where I felt that the most. It's not Yosemite, that's for sure, so don't come looking for majesty, but it's undoubtedly a nice slice of natural peace. read more

I think we came during a funeral as there were white doves being flown. After parking, there is a small little trail (TEENY) with unique plants and gorgeous views of the valley. Would I come back? Probably not. But the couple next to us commented, "This hasn't changed in 45 years." I think they were referring to the landscape of orange groves and hills. read more

My friend joked that it should have been named Conversation Mount instead of Meditation Mount. My main complaint is that in the meditation garden, it was hard to meditate because people were talking on the benches instead of meditating. The Krishnamurti center has a more peaceful feeling to me; however, you can't beat the view of The Ojai Valley up at Meditation Mount! Also, as a side note, I chose not to meditate in the meditation room because it has a bit of a dusty smell and I felt it could have used some tea tree essential oil or "Thieves" by Young Living essential oil diffused across the room to make the air in there seem less dusty and more fresh. The garden was gorgeous and I loved the written meditations and sculptures along the way. I liked that we could bring our leashed dogs along with us. ~ Overall it was a very nice experience. read more

If you want to/can rest your mind and want to just "sit", this may be the place to do it. This is only possible when there no distractions, which isn't often. Some view it as a tourist hop to see the famous incredible view of the valley , but I do not think it was intended for this. Anyway, a stroll through the gardens with someone you truly is a lovely experience (speak softly or not all all; be sure to find all there is to see and discover/look around). Realize the deafening quietude! Yes, this place often feels like it's abandoned. There is never anyone to talk to about this special place. I've been here many times and only once was the store and office open. When the office is open, there are these cards with one word on them and I found them to be very special to me. I placed them in a row, one on top of each other and threaded them with thin copper wire and they now hang on the wall, reminders of what matters. You'll understand, should you be lucky enough to find an inhabitant in the offices . There are spiritual pilgrims that do live there. Don't forget to gently tap the scuba tank bells (WHAT A LOVELY SOUND). The mediation rooms could be more inviting. The garden artifacts and statuary beautifully enhance the grounds. It's a beautiful view and very peaceful, a great place to view the famous Ojai sunsets from and of course, learn how to meditate. It's very serene so probably best to bring your quieter side. I've been here before and had a lovely time but there were a decent amount of people for a relatively small space so everyone shuffled around, but you still get a great view. However due to the unfortunate fires recently, there has been some fire damage and the place is temporarily closed until further notice per a sign on their gates. :( Check their website for more information! read more

this place sucks. we went there thinking it would be some spiritual spot up in the mountains with gurus and a sweet temple. we found a small building with some chairs and a lounge. it was like a lodge. the meditation room was weird. just a big ass room with a bunch of foldup chairs in a circle. the library consisted of a small halfsize bookshelf. the garden was underimpressive. just a large lawn with a gross pond. if you look at the site, it show the same pond over and over like its crystal clear and enormous. its the size of a jacuzzi and green with larvae. the international piece garden was the size of a mcdonalds. after getting lost due to horrible directions from google, maquest, and our 2 gps devices, we found the place. if you do have a day to kill, you can definatley kill it there...but remember that ojai school road does not actually exist. you have to go down the hill to the pizza place and then turn on to reeves road. anyway, the meditation vibe was there, and i definitely felt calm. the sunset view over the valley was really sick. but it was not worth the 6 hours round trip form LA. we did have spaghetti at the random italian place around the corner and it was good. bottom line, not that sick. th ewebsite makes it look 1000x cooler than it ts. cool if ur into sunsets. read more

For anyone in LA who needs to just stop and take a breath, come here. I took a day off work and drove up in the morning, It's just over an hour outside of LA, it's a beautiful drive, and it feels like you're stepping into another world. They have a little gift shop of magical goodies (himalayn sea salt lamps for reasonable prices, crystals, and more). They have little umbrellas for guests to borrow to keep shaded while on the grounds. I sat for hours just reading ,relaxing, meditating. It's a truly beautiful space and I felt so welcomed. I've heard about Meditation Mount and I've heard that Ojai is a spiritual place. Before the drinking. A couple of weeks ago my cousin told me about this Full Moon meditation that's done there every full moon. We decided to go. Sure, it was on a Monday night, it would involve me driving from the SFV to Santa Barbara to Ojai then back to SFV. Would I do it again, yes. Meditation Mount was a beautiful place. The meditation that took place was beautiful. The views were breath taking. A few days after the meditation I feel like I'm able to move foward with some of my lingering goals. If you have good road trip company, or want to go on a mini-road trip by yourself, it's worth it. read more
