Lunchtime!
Angela S.

We loved coming here on a whim! They asked if we were 'new' and explained the process so nicely! Food came out super fast, large portions and great prices! All of us took home leftovers! Seating area and bathrooms could use some updating, but it had an overall quaint atmosphere & authentic feel.

I took out lamb and beef shawarma for lunch. It was good. Shawarma, salad, hummus, rice and pita bread. Good enough food to fill you up. I got my order ready in a couple of minutes.

Heard so much about Mediterranean Cafe and finally decided to try it and LOVED IT!! State street has a hidden gem. You all need to stop what you are doing and head to Med Cafe today. Mediterranean Cafe has been serving the Madison community for more than 20 years. It's a casual and cozy restaurant serving Algerian food. The food here is delicious and served quickly. You will go back here again after you have tried it once. We tried the chicken shawarma plate and chicken sandwich. The shawarma plate is served with rice, salad, hummus, and pita. The portion size is huge and I really thought I wouldn't finish it. Once I started eating, I couldn't stop and my plate was empty before you know it. The chicken and salad was so flavorful . The rice that accompanied it was also so well prepared. The chicken sandwich was also huge and so delicious. I cannot wait to go back there and try other things off their menu. Thank you to the person at the ordering station who recommended the shawarma plate to me, so so good!

First time here and no cars allowed on State Street. Parked at the nearby garage cause it's impossible to find street parking on Fri around lunch time. When we entered, there were 3 people ahead of us. Menu is on the wall where they also listed their specials. The line moved pretty fast and we ordered Lebanese kibby $11.5 and Moroccan bastilla $11.5. We like both dishes especially the Moroccan chicken pie. I remember eating tagine and bastilla several times while spending a month in Morocco in 2019. Each entree came with rice and salad. We both find the salad dressing to be too acidic and will ask for the dressing on the side the next time we visit. Also had the lemon rice soup which was refreshing and creamy. It's a very small restaurant where the tables are quite close to each other like two feet apart. When our neighbors left, her behind knocked my water off. No joke. Everyone was friendly and portion size was good. Maybe we will order to go next time. They have a loyalty program when you sign up with the phone number.

Okay, I remember this hole in the wall being only available for the lunch hour and cash only... but this was also years ago. While it doesn't measure up to the exclusivity of this place years ago with a line forming out the door, the food still hits the spot. They now take credit cards and have expanded their times beyond the lunch hour. Dining in is quite a tight squeeze but I remember it being a hot commodity. I advise for small groups (no more than 4) if you're dining in. They're also pretty quick to service to go orders too if you're on the run. Self-bussing is still the same and and they even have a box to discard the pita for chickens! As for the food: full of flavor, my only qualm this time was that I had really hard pieces of rice that I had to spit out. I figure maybe I got the bottom of the barrel...I've been here before and this has not been an issue so hence the star deduction. Lots of pita to accompany!

Disintegrated lid due to heat of the food. Quite the mess in my car.

Great food but horrible soup to-go containers. My last order of lentil soup & rice didn't make it home because the lids disintegrated due to the heat of the food. The lids broke and the containers collapsed while riding in my car. (I tried to notify them of this via their website Contact Us section but never heard back from them.)

We were looking for shawarma and received a recommendation to eat here. Everything was delicious and we would definitely make a point of eating here the next time we are in Madison.

The outside of restaurant!

Great ambiance, good service, food taste great! Very tasty & a lot of flavors! The pita bread & hummas with paprika was creamy & flavorful. I had the beef Shawarma, with salad & lemon tasting rice pilaf. So filling & I tried both of thier Baklava's, (Cashew & Pistacio) & they were ok, not super sweet so if you have a sweet tooth it's not going to satisfy that sweet tooth in my opinion! The place is small but still fit's a pretty good number of people! Great Lunch place & very filling...

Lamb and beef shawarma sandwich

Lovely place, wonderful schwarma sandwich with good flavor lamb and beef. Good food and variety in their offerings and it's pretty cheap too. I've had no problems with the service, no nonsense and pretty efficient though this is definitely not a place with much ambiance.

This cafe might be small, but it packs a serious flavor punch! I can't say enough good things about this place. When we walked in, the woman behind the cash register personally helped set up our table when no one was available. We ordered a few plates of shawarma and sat down. The cafe is filled with interesting things to look at. Our booth had a book filled with postcards from all over the world. Our server returned with heaping plates of delicious food and even gave us free pita and hummus! The lamb was well seasoned and cooked. The pita was warm and fresh and paired nicely with the creamy, salty hummus. Simply delicious! I had a few friends visiting from outside of Madison and they were blown away by how great the Mediterranean cafe is. I really can't wait to go back!

One of my favorite spots to pick up a great Mediterranean meal! Everything is always so fresh and I usually have to make 2 meals out of it.

There is even a bar are with counter seating and three - five tables (two standard height and three counter height. There is a monstrous screen behind the bar for sports, but they mostly show videos of Greece, but they are mesmerizing videos of a beautiful country. It's a cleaner version of Dengeo's. And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. Once you order, staff will bring to your table, so please tip when you order or leave on the table as they do come by and clear your table as well. It is first come first served and you grab your own tables. I've been there on weekends and weeknights and they get pretty packed. The food is flavorful and quite tasty. The portions are huge so you're definitely going to bring something home. Nostimo is now in our rotation of places to go in a pinch and they do have an outdoor seating area, too.

Since there was a total of 11 and the seating is first come first serve, we decided to call to see if they had reservations. They did take our name and reserved a table. When we arrived we noticed a table was reserved and we were informed that it was our table. We sat and looked over the menus. When we were ready my 2 boys and I went up to place our order. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

We ordered the saganaki to start, which was flambéed table side and it was fresh and delicious. We shared the porterhouse and the lamb chops (which were loins, not ribs) and there was an extra $8 charge on shared plates. The porterhouse was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The filet portion was my favorite part. The lamb loin chops were very thick and came with 4 large pieces. Each order came with a side salad or soup, and some type of potato, with many options to choose from. I love the Greek influence on this steak house restaurant. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or for a nice dinner.

My wife and I came to Galena to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. For our Saturday night…read moredinner, we decided to go to Log Cabin, hoping to celebrate the occasion properly. When I called to make our reservation, I let the staff know we were coming in for our 10-year anniversary. When we arrived, I also mentioned it to the host (the bald gentleman with glasses). He responded with, "Well, your wife is right behind you--there goes the surprise," as if she wouldn't know it was our anniversary. At no point during the evening did anyone acknowledge our celebration or even say "Happy anniversary." I even asked our waiter, Pat M., whether anyone had told him we were celebrating anything. He said no--that no one had informed him we were there for our anniversary. We didn't come expecting free food, dessert, or anything special. But not acknowledging our anniversary at all--especially after we mentioned it twice--was frustrating. Every other place we've celebrated at has at least offered a simple "Happy anniversary," if not a dessert, flowers on the table, or a personalized menu. Log Cabin truly dropped the ball, and I believe the host is largely to blame.
