Storefront for Freska

Located in Greenway Station, this Greek restaurant is a nice option for lunch. Tucked into one of the buildings, you have to pay attention to find it in the row of storefronts. The interior was reasonably spacious and clean. The format was more or less a street food approach in which you walk up, order and customize your toppings and accompaniments. I chose the Gyro Plate with Hummus, Feta, Olives and Onions. It was accompanied by Pita. It was quite tasty and made for a filling lunch. With food, tax and a small tip, my final bill was about $13.50. It was a reasonable deal. If I am working in the area again and have a taste for Mediterranean fare, I'll certainly pay another visit.

I dined in on a weekday evening. There were some people, but the place had a lot of table left. One orders food and sit in any table. Lamb and beef gyro and falafal plate were my entree items and both were good. Sweet potato fries was a good side as well.

The food in this place is amazing and the portions are quite sumptuous. We tried the chicken shawarma platter with chicken shorts & lamb skewers. The toppings on the platter were quite delicious (and large portions) & there was a variety of them you could select from - you could get as many toppings as you want it seems. The service was great. We got takeout from Freska Mediterranean Grill one night for dinner. We ordered the "Veggie Feast" (no meat, so perfect for vegetarians) for about $9. It came with a generous portion of food: a whole pita, 3 pieces of falafel, feta cheese, baba ghanoush, hummus, and tabouleh. Everything was delicious! The nutty-flavored creamy dressing really brought it all together. The falafel was my fave with it being crispy and flavorful on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was a refreshing light meal in terms of grease/fats (not portion). It feels very healthy, but you still finish the meal with a full belly! It's a very satisfying meal. The one thing I've heard is that their hours of operation are unpredictable at times (regardless of their posted times), so I suggest going into the store to order and grab your food rather than ordering it ahead of time online/phone to pick up later. Apparently, they have been closed at times when some people have gone to pick up their food.

Freska is one of my favorite places to get Mediterranean food in the Madison area. I'd describe this restaurant as like a Chipotle, but for Mediterranean food - you first make a choice of type of dish (sandwich or plate) and the main meat/filling you want, then you go down their line of toppings and sauces to add to your dish. Their ingredients are always very fresh and delicious - you really can't go wrong with any of their options. Their side dishes and desserts are always good too. I have to get their baklava whenever we visit! Overall, I would highly recommend Freska to anyone looking for delicious, authentic food in a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. The service was top-notch and the food was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to return for another meal!

Outstanding gyros and baklava. Gyro platter, though I didn't order it this time, is also outstanding.

A pleasant surprise! Really good food, fast service. Kind of reminds me of a Mediterranean "chipotle"

It's something else. I deliberately requested additional lettuce b/c Milio's seems to be notoriously stingy when it comes to lettuce. Upon receiving my order the words 'with extra lettuce' were stated. I assumed naturally that upon unwrapping it, it be seeing something that resembled something different than wha these pictures depicted. In the first image it looks pretty deflated. The next one shows the entirety of the contents. Not impressive in any way. The third is about seeking out the invisible bacon. It's there, an extremely anemic and thinnest cut ever, slice of bacon. So small I literally had to dig beneath the also very small amount of Turkey. I see there are more than average low ratings for this location. I imagine if I looked into it, I'd probably see my own ratings from previous visits. I know I rarely visit this location. Moving forward, rarely is likely to become even less, probably never. Too many far more worthy options within the immediate vicinity. For with its worth at least the sandwich is flavorful, though I do need to add seasonings and jalapeños.

There were a couple guys ahead of me in line. The kid working there took their orders, then mine. Then he went to work (he was alone there). I wish I got his name - he was extremely friendly (like "I love my job" attitude) and very efficient. He knocked out the orders in good time, and with a smile and good tidings. I love that. I know when I go to Milio's, the subs will be consistent and reliable. The service and attitude on my visit were above and beyond. Kudos, young man - keep it up!

It was admittedly a little warm inside, maybe because the AC wasn't working. I got the lomo saltado, which reminded me of college days when my dining hall would serve this!! The beef was SO tender, and the fries help soak up the soy based sauce. I also loved the aji verde that comes with the fries - so fresh made with jalapeños, cilantro, and mayo! Upon entering, the first thing that hits: chickens on the rotisserie, and honestly, I haven't seen that since Boston Market a decade ago. I ordered at the counter, and a few minutes later the worker came by offering my dining partner and me chicken soup as a little extra gesture--hot, delicious, and very welcome. I had cilantro rice and black beans alongside my chicken, all perfectly done. The flavors here are solid and a great introduction for me to Peruvian cuisine. Why not five stars? The vibe is minimal and casual--gas station setting and all--so it's more functional than cozy or lively. Still, the food is excellent, and I'll absolutely be back for more.

The "more" also includes fresh-made pasta, hand cut meats and cheeses, gelato and a few other absolutely delish items! Back to that sandwich...we were not hungry, but could not pass up a good sandwich, especially one freshly made on locally sourced and baked bread! The bread was the absolutely star of each bite, I mean...sheesh! The sandwich in full was great, and definitely worth the stop in on its own. The store itself is small, but mighty, and well laid out, stocked with all the goods, flows well, clean and in great condition. Service was stellar as well. We were greeted upon entry, checked on while browsing and chatted up while being rang out. Alimentari itself is this awesome little deli/grocer with both bagged pastas AND FRESH PASTA/antipasti available to buy, as well as all sorts of goods, breads, coffees, chocolates, beverages and a whole wine selection. Beware that there is no seating inside but definitely do not let this dissuade you from visiting.
