$917 for an alternator!!! I had stopped going to this place after outrageous price gouging a few years ago on a set of rotors and tires installed. Thought I'd give it another shot hoping to support a local shop that I'd been taking 3 cars to over the last ten years. I called ahead and received an email quote for an alternator replacement - quote was reasonable and labor was inline with what I'd researched. I noted the cheap Chinesium (TotalPro) overpriced parts and elected to source my own - had an alternator replaced there 5yrs ago. Then the bill came - not even in the same ballpark. I showed the owner the quote and to no surprise he became incredibly angry and borderline belligerent telling me "he didn't care about any emails." So then I called around to another shop next door with him on speaker and asked for the labor required, 1.5hrs. Eddie then proceeds to blame a new system. In the end, and for complete transparency, he did refund some of the labor. He said he didn't care about negative reviews - which initially I wasn't inclined to write. A simple decision to never go there again would have sufficed for me - but it was your attitude that earned this review. I'll use the refunded money to buy a new battery when the $104 battery you installed for $240 dies in a year. It's tough to find a good auto repair shop- but I'd definitely stay away from these guys. And Eddie - you earned this review because of how you acted towards me - it wasn't even the gouging. read more

The manager was rude and very impolite. He raised his voice while talking. He was charging 400 dollars for doing a diagnosis which we have done initially for several minutes before it was taken there and told him exactly what was wrong with the car.He said it took a few hours for them to diagnose that accounted for the $400. When I complained , he lowered the price to $244 which is still too high for a diagnosis which was already known by us. Medley's has been a faithful stand-by for car repairs and they recently took care of my 2005 Mazda 3 that my son now drives. After Meineke failed to correctly diagnose anything more than it needing a flush (bc my son poured oil in the coolant), Mr. Medley and his team stepped in to assist us. They communicated well during the process and when we had a small delay, we were taken care of with no further charges. The car is running as well as expected for one its age and we hope to keep it running smooth for our kiddo that loves his car and independence. read more

If I could give less I would. Complete crooks. I dropped off my car just to be looked at and they did service without my go ahead. They apparently put in a battery then took it out again to check it because it couldn't be jumped. They quoted me 3k and told me my car was unusable then demanded payment for me to drive it off the lot when I said I didn't want the work done (mainly because i can't afford it, duh). I jumped it when i got there just fine and it was later fixed for less than $400. They charged me double what I was originally told and I got my car back in the exact same condition, which was to be expected, but for the price I was told. I only wanted it looked at. Can't believe I have to leave these guys even one star. Took my car in for a simple brake light switch replacement because that's what I had been told was needed after some investigating with my car. They replaced the part (not without destroying the old part to pieces since they clearly did not know how to take it out) and my girlfriend picked the car up when it was ready. Get home from work to find out they did it incorrectly and my brake lights were permanently on, because this was a Friday evening when it was discovered, I couldn't take the car in to get it fixed by the same guys who screwed it up for two days so the car battery fixed and I had to charge it in order to get the car to the shop. After this and explaining to them first thing Monday morning about the error, there was no apology or anything just said "we'll look at it". Thankfully they did fix it but never once said I'm sorry or that it was their fault for putting the part in wrong and causing my car to die. All this to say, don't trust this shop to bother checking their work because they let my car leave the lot 'broken' because of their screw up and they didn't even bat an eye. Really thought it'd be nice to have a car shop within walking distance of home but I WILL NOT be returning to this shop ever for any other work. read more

Highly disappointed. Have taken a vehicle to them twice within one week to the tune of $280 and now have to take it to another service center as they weren't able to determine what was causing the issue. Friendly people inside. From out of town and came for oil change. Instead of calling to ask about type of oil to use they decided on their own to pick. Of course they picked the $20 a quart oil. Will not bring any of our vehicles here when in town and will tell family to avoid this place. Apologized for having to use that "expensive" oil instead of their typical $6 a quart oil. We used to love this place but the last few times we've been, things have been shady, over-priced, unable to complete the work. This time was our last time. Took our van there for warranty work ( they are on contract with Car Max care) and he refused to do the work and wanted us to pay out of pocket for three hours of "diagnostic" work. Held our car for 12 days while he fought with the company. They did do an oil change for $84 and when I picked up the car, the check engine light and oil pressure light were both on. They were able to get my issue figured out and were reasonable about price. I went back with a brake light issue and they were able to help out then too. This place scammed me for thousands of dollars. They refuse to honor warranties or honor their work. Avoid at all costs! I have now had to involve AAA and am working to make sure they lose their AAA recommendation and AAA is working with me to try to get them to fix my car under warranty and if not I will take them to court to get every cent of my money back. I just now got actual proof they were scamming me so keep reading. My car broke down less than a year ago. It is a 2003 VW Beetle with 68k miles. It needed a replacement cooling hose. so I towed it to Medleys and they said my entire coolant system and timing chain needed to be replaced. I should have known then but I said ok and paid close to 2k to fix it all. I received it back and my A/C was not working all of a sudde . So I brought it back and had to pay to fix that even though they probably caused the issue. Subsequent to this my car broke down anywhere from a day to a week of that and would not start. A problem it had never had. So I kept towing it to medley and every time it was a different issue I had to pay for from the wiring harness to the battery to the cam shaft censor and more. And once they actually had to jump my car because it wouldn't start when I tried to leave after paying them. I made it to the gas station and had to call aaa to jump it and told medleys immediately. They charged me to fix it again. It's been at least 7 times that this has happened and thousands and thousands of dollars. So I finally took it to Neil Huffman VW service center on dixie. They gave me a list of issues that needed to be fixed including the A/C. All of these issues have been supposedly fixed and paid for at medley . So I towed it back to medleys because that's been their excuse the entire time of why they wouldn't fix it under warranty. They said it's a new part that needs to be fixed even though the warranty covers the problem not the part. Probably to ensure that mechanics can't scam people by fixing parts that don't need fixing to keep getting more money. SO despite Vw saying what was broken they are trying their scam again and saying it's the fuel pump and they won't fix it under warranty. It's just disgusting. Even when I have proof on paper that hes been fixing stuff that didnt need to be fixed and not fixing the problem I have paid him multiple times to fix the owner EDDIE still refuses to be ethical under the name of his business or ethical under the name and warranty of AAA. Lastly, he threatened if I didnt tow my car off his lot he would tow it and get rid of it. after the thousands and thousands I've spent I won't be letting this go. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong and Eddie and how he runs his business and treats his paying customers is disgusting and shady at the very least. So I implore you to stay away and find anyone else because they either dont know what they are doing here (best case scenario) or they are outright being shady and scamming people (the more likely and probably worst case scenario). Second time I've gone to them to plug a tire. First time I was told that the screw/hole was too close to the side of the tire and I needed to replace it. So I did. This go around? Same thing. Discount tire's website lists that you can plug any tire within a half inch of the side wall. This hole is almost three inches to the side. 2 5/8 inches to be exact. (See the picture below.) The guy told me, "I'm not trying to sell you a tire." I didn't say that, but he felt it was necessary to tell me that. If they do this for $150 tire replacement, I can't imagine what they do for mechanical issues. read more

My car at slow speed or idling was vibrating, another tire shop couldn't Diagnose and my mechanic was extremely busy. Called them they said bring over, I left with them, instead of calling to state issues and they order parts and pass costs of too you which are expensive. I stated that I have a lifetime warranty on that part and they said we can do a 2 year warranty. 2 year or lifetime. Also had a hose that caused air pressure that cracked warranty part in the 1st place, they glued on. I asked to go where part was under warranty. They seemed upset. I went to shop that switched out with no problem also changed air hose, instead of glue cause it was still hanging off and I went less than 5 miles from them. DO NOT USE them crooked. read more

I was referred to Medleys by AAA since my car needed repair. I was told by AAA that I could get a 25% discount since they partner with Medleys. When contacting Medleys, they said I could get 10% up to 50 dollars. . That's not even the bad part. So Medleys tells me I need I need an air compressor, serpentine belt, and alternator. 2300 dollars!!!! I even went online and looked up the prices for those parts for my car and they totaled up to being 250 bucks. So they would be charging me for over 2000 bucks for labor!!! I had another shop charge me 600 for the same procedure... THAT IS ROBBERY!! Do your research...I am so glad I did not go with this shop. read more

On the recommendation of my regular mechanic, I had my car towed to Medley's to replace a blown out tire and damaged rim. I was told it would take 3-5 business days to get new tire delivered. my car was finally ready late on the afternoon of the 6th day. Medley's charge for a new Continental tire was $316. The cost for the same tire at Louisville Honda World would have been $234. Had I gone to Louisville Honda World in the first place, they had the tire in stock and there would not have been a delay of six days. The common belief is to avoid the dealership at all cost. A while back, I bought a Groupon for an oil change. I do this a lot, because oil changes are expensive, but extremely necessary. The best deal at this time was a place in St. Matthews called Medley's Auto Care. I didn't know anything about the place, but the reviews were pretty good, so I figured I would risk it. When I called make an appointment for an oil change and discovered that they are only done first come, first serve, I was nervous. The only time I really can take time to wait for an oil change to be done is on a weekend, and those tend to be pretty busy in the oil change business. But Saturday came, and I thought that I would give it a try. Discovering that the shop is directly across from Shelbyville Road Plaza was a definite bonus, because I figured that even if the wait was long, I could always take in a little window shopping. Alone time is never a bad thing in my book. I was greeted warmly, and asked if I could wait about 2 hours for the oil change to be completed because of an issue with office staff and who would be available to actually complete the oil change. Obviously I had no issue with this, so I set out to do some shopping. I don't know whether I was disappointed or impressed when I got the phone call about 30 minutes later that my car was ready to go. The service is incredible. The prices are wonderful. I had already paid for the oil change with the Groupon, but I also had the windshield wipers replaced on this very old, very mistreated car of mine. All told, for the extra charge for synthetic oil, environmental fees, and windshield wiper blades, my bill was $25. My time spent was less than an hour. I don't think you can get much better than that on a Saturday afternoon when you're looking for an oil change. I have another oil change coming from the Groupon, and I will be thrilled to use it here. It's likely that I will also use Medley's for future car needs, because the friendliness of the staff, the quickness of the service, and the great low prices make for the perfect business for my car needs. read more

Nobody said anything about that this was the extra charge for the Synthetic oil, nor did they asked if I even approved or wanted that! I previously had an awful experience with a repair I needed on another shop. I just got to Medley's because I read previous reviews, since I am new in town. In 20 minutes my problem was fixed, and I was charged 5 times less than the previous shop wanted to charge me. I wanted a second oppion on a diagnostic test and had spoken with the owner, Eddie, to ask what his charges for repairs would be. He told me that air flow sensors may not need to be replaced because with a tune up done the sensors may no longer misfire and/or need replacing. He quoted me a price of $300 for work and $50 for another diagnostic test to check the sensors again. I agreed for him to do the work without replacing the sensors and to preform another diagnostic test hoping the sensors would not need to be replaced. At this point I was happy to have a second opinion. When he returned my call he told me that unfortunately the sensors would need to be replaced. When he told me his cost for replacing them, I told him I would pick up my truck and pay for the work he had done. The #1 mechanic where the initial diagnostic test was done had given me an estimate to replace the sensors at cheaper cost so obviously I was going to take my truck back to them. However, when I picked up my truck from Medleys, the charge I was told over the phone of $350 had increased to $650 at the counter. I told the operator there was a mistake and he called the owner present to handle the confusion. He actually told me that I had I agreed to his charges of $650. He told me that he called me a second time and to explain to me the charges which he did but he did not ever tell me that the cost was $650.00. It was unbelievable. I explained, why on earth would I agree to pay more when I could have the same work done including replacing the sensors for under $750. He knew I had an estimate already and apparently he wanted the business anyway he could get it. It was like he just helped himself to my wallet! The cost for everything including new sensors was estimated at $738.00 total at #1 mechanic in Shepherdsville Ky. Medleys in St Matthews on Shelbyville Rd estimate for the same work was over the $1150.00. This is why I like to get a second opinion so I can rule out dishonesty. In this case I could have saved time, money and my loss of temper to this con artist. I will taking my truck back to Shepherdsville and pay a total $1006.00 because I was charged an extra $300 for services he said he added after I told him I was picking it up. Whether he really did any other services is unknown. But I will never trust him and it will be difficult to trust anyone after this....if I could give no stars I would!! read more

My car's Maintenance Required light has been on for a while, when it stayed on instead of flashing I thought I'd better take it for an oil change to Medley's. As always, I was treated pleasantly and everyone was very nice. When my car was being checked, one of the mechanics came out and said I had plenty of oil and it was clean, I didn't need anything done. I asked about the light and was told that they manually had to turn it off (I also read this on a Scion website, so it's true). They brought my car around and I was on my way, I was not charged for anything. Now they could have done nothing, said the oil was changed and charged me, but they were honest and professional. In case you don't have the time/energy to read on, my review here essentially goes on to demonstrate how Medley's is not the fair, kind, neighborhood shop they'd have you believe and how leaving the customer satisfied is a low priority for them. To give you some context, I'm a female in her 20s trying to keep my car in safe and working condition without overpaying. I'd been here before for oil changes and had reasonably good experiences. My biggest issues with my last experience a few days ago were (1) they did not provide an estimate even though they proudly display that they will ALWAYS provide an estimate on a posted code of ethics, (2) they described some work they would do over the phone and then did NOT tell me that they did NOT do that work when I picked it up, (3) they charged me $200 for a part that costs $75 in store (I know to expect an upcharge but this is OUTRAGEOUS!), (4) when you include shop supplies their labor rate is $138/hour - again, OUTRAGEOUS!, (5) know that they charge for their diagnostic work (labor charge mentioned above) EVEN if you end up having them do the work and they would have had to do that anyway! Not all mechanics do this, and (6) finally, I ended up paying at least $200 more than it would have cost another, FAIRER mechanic who valued my business. After this horrible experience and doing research on my bill, I returned to speak to Eddie, the owner, to see if we could find a reasonable compromise regarding some of the outrageous charges. I did not yell, swear, or scream and spoke respectfully to him in a reasonable tone. I will say that he also spoke to me respectfully during this discussion. However, he refused to compromise on the bill and said he stands by all of his decisions (though he didn't have much of a defense when I pointed to his estimate promise in his code of ethics; clearly, he doesn't like people pointing out his unethical behavior). My final point: I will never return here for any type of work. That said, they're fine for an oil change. Don't come here for anything else unless you want to take a gamble; just be sure to demand that promised estimate so you're not stuck paying 50% more than you should be. read more

Horrible service. Dropped a vehicle off to have some motor work done got a call a week later it was ready. Picked up vehicle and it sounded the exact same. Dropped back off for them to tell us nearly two weeks later it was almost ready so we go to pickup and the vehicle is tucked in the back of the lot behind many vehicles and the mechanic says man this has been back here awhile, we asked hmm how they said two days ago they were cleaning things within the motor. Watch out....Something has changed I have taken my automobiles to medley for years. Usually, I get good service, my problems get fixed and I think their prices are reasonable. However, the past two times I have taken my vehicle in for service, they fixed my problem but they created new problems. On one occasion, they fixed the bearings in a rear axial but created a new electrical problem Then they charged me another $400 to fix my electrical problem but they could guarantee there work on the electrical work. On an other occasion, I took my vehicle in for service and the broke my door handle. then they wanted to charge me another $350 to fix the handle. I am not sure what the change is but , they seem to be trying to generate their own work. I am taking my vehiles to someone I can trust. read more

I took my Prius in for a problem with the ABS and brake warning lights. There was a grabbing in the way the brakes worked. When I returned later in the day, it was explained that the brake program had to be reset, and the lights went off, and everything was working correctly. No parts were needed, and the cost was for the analysis only. GREAT!!! Super job and convenient too. read more

Caused a bigger problem than they fixed. Took my car in for a minor brake issue: needed a power booster. When finished, I asked about the brakes and were told, "They're fine. Well, there WERE fine... but the brake pedal slips down on it's own, causing one to have the brake on as you drive, so I'm sure the brakes are worn now. It's a pain to drive and be constantly lifting it up. It slips down on it's own when parked so I go out in the middle of the night to lift up on the brake when I see the brake light on. Now the brake lights are burned out and my car has died due to the light left on. They "fixed" my air conditioner while it was in the shop. I told them it wasn't cooling, but not just needing more freon. (probably a leak) They added freon and declared it fixed. A week later, no cooling. $500 not counting the rental car for 3 days and my car is worse off than when I took it to them. read more
