Dr. Medrano is the best vet I could have dreamt of for our new puppy, Deuce! Given the pandemic and most vets' policies to not allow humans to accompany their pets, I pursued Dr. Medrano's services so that I could be by Deuce's side during what can be a scary experience for little pups. Having Dr. Medrano come over and conduct Deuce's checkups from the back of her SUV outdoors felt so safe (COVID and otherwise), comforting, and convenient. She answered my dozens of questions with the perfect balance of professional advice and empowering her human clients to make certain calls for their pets. Not too prescriptive, but very helpful and thorough! I already knew we loved seeing Dr. Medrano, but the real difference wasn't evident until we had to rush Deuce to a different animal hospital for some emergency x-rays. Despite having an appointment, I was forced to wait outside at the other place for over 50 minutes with Deuce in my arms (too young to set down due to vaccinations), was then separated from Deuce, with no access to a restroom or even chairs! I got chatting with another fur mama who was there for more routine pet care (puppy shots and wellness check). When I asked about pricing at this other vet hospital for this routine puppy care, I was SHOCKED to find out it was about the same price as what I paid for Dr. Medrano's puppy visits! And yet the experience is absolutely, without a doubt, 1000x better with Dr. Medrano. If in any sort of doubt, please have her over to see your pet! Okay, so first of all why such a low number of stars for this place that seems to have stellar reviews. Let me explain.  I read all the outstanding reviews for this business and so I sent an email as specified on their website outlining the situation with my dog. The gist of my email was that my 13 year old dog, an intact female, seemed to be attending to her self-cleaning a little more often than normal. I mentioned that she otherwise seemed fine no other issues.  I also mentioned I had my cat of 14 years die a little more than a month ago and that this behavior in my dog started about the same time my elderly cat had passed away.  The two were always inseparable and the best of friends my cat and dog. The only reason I mentioned the death of my other pet (cat of 14 years) was that I wanted to emphasize I wasn't sure if I was looking at an emotional issue or a physical one. One certainly can understand when you lose another beloved pet of many years, you find yourself a little extra cautious with your remaining pet. You'll understand in a minute why I mentioned the circumstance. So I gave them my contact information and address and told them when I was available and that I would like to set up a mobile visit to my home in San Francisco. About a day later, I received an email reply saying that they were NO LONGER ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS at all.  Yet, seemingly to their credit, they sent me a PDF of other mobile veterinary services. It is with the PDF I had significant issue. When I read the PDF it was largely a collection of mobile doctors that would only come to your home to perform euthanasia.  When you've recently lost another pet to old age and you have another older pet that otherwise seems to be doing fine, the last bit of information you want to be given are mobile services to have your pet euthanized.:( Now I presume it was an unintended fault on their part; BUT to give someone who had recently lost another pet and had only a mild concern about the well-being of their current pet - a veterinary list of veterinarians that would only come to your house to put your pet to death it's the last thing you should send the potential client. Again, I presume they didn't even look at the PDF and consider how it may be received based on the circumstances of the client with their previous pet and current pet.  Yet, to me it would seem to point to a lack of attention to critical detail which is the last quality you would want to have in any event that took care of one of your animals. Perhaps those that are current clients that can get service from this vet are very pleased with their service; however I can only evaluate based on this first impression they gave me which was that they clearly didn't listen to the client they provided information that was not even pertinent to the client and could create needless worry for the client about their pet. Anyway my two cents. If they miss out on details like this what sort of details in the care of your pet do they miss out on? I don't know I was not impressed by the communication and the lack of sensitivity of the type of information they offered. YMMV apparently..... but I was not left impressed. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Medrano and her vetinary services. I have been using Dr. medrano since I got my little (not so little anymore) golden retriever puppy 5 months ago. She is now nearly 8 months old! My little pup has dealt with many of the common puppy illnesses in the city including recurring bouts of gihardia, an eye infection, and possibly a mild case of the canine flu / kennel cough. Through it all, Dr. medrano has been such a fantastic resource, with such wonderful service! Having a vet that comes and does house visits is very convenient and was a blessing especially right after just bringing my little pup home. Dr. Marcia and Megan are wonderful! They have been our dog's one and only vet since we welcomed him home at 9 weeks. Dr. Medrano is both gentle and quick with her exam and vaccines, making vet visits more of a social visit for our dog. Not to mention they come to our house, so its a comfortable visit for all of us. Megan is very warm and loving to our dog, it's clear she is passionate about animals. Dr. Medrano is always patient with my long list of questions and never judgmental or dismissive. She is very knowledgeable and her recommendations seem to be based on latest research and vet standards. Both she and Megan answer emails and make scheduling very easy. Dr. Medrano has also saved us (via email) on a couple of occasions when we had urgent dog GI issues come up while we were traveling. Another perk- they also have an online animal pharmacy where we order flea and heartworm prevention meds, and other dog supplies. Plus I find its usually at a lower cost than other online retailers. Not only are they true professionals, but they TRULY care about their patients and their patients' parents :) They are so convenient and happily come to your homes for your pets' appointments fully prepared (and will even hand deliver medicines!). I must say that it's nice to have a Veterinarian that can come to your house, is easily accessible, attentive and friendly. I'm not sure that sums up everything that Dr. Marcia and Megan are. I'm pretty busy and my work hours are so off that it's hard to schedule a time when I can go to a Vet outside. Even then, if I do have a day off.....I'm scheduling around the clinic hours and it's always hit or miss for me so this home vet service definitely works for me. Scheduling was super easy...I sent an email and heard back the next day. Dr. Marcia and Megan were on time and so friendly. Of course, my dog Tuna was completely terrified of them. They greeted Tuna and my other dog, Posey - who wasn't even being seen that day- with treats, super plus points for my doggies!!! She got her vaccines up to date, a wellness exam and a check up on this itchy skin issue she's been having. Dr. Marcia makes an effort to follow up after the visit, answers all your questions and is very attentive. This is something that I do not get from an outside Vet which definitely helps ease my own anxiety. Fast forward to a few months later..... my other dog Posey & sister's dog Poppy was also seen and examined by Dr. Marcia and Megan. Again, a very positive experience. They make every effort to ensure the examination is not stressful and also are available by email if you still had questions after the visit. I really can't say enough how much I appreciated the treatment they gave our kitties. I have a 10+ year feral Siamese named Professor. When I found her she had a myriad of health problems. We took her to the VCA hospital in the mission. Although we initially liked the care Professor received, it seemed the longer we kept taking her there, the greater the quality diminished. Professor was not getting any better, so my girlfriend took matters into her own hands and did a tremendous amount of research on our kitty's health issues, and I can say with full confidence that Professor probably would have died if that extra step hadn't been taken. Fast forward 6 months, some of Professors symptoms seemed to have come back. We chose Medranovets after seeing their high yelp ratings, combined with the convenience of their home visits. Every part of the process was a delight. From scheduling the appointment, to the actual visit, I could tell that they genuinely cared for Professor and actually enjoyed what they do for a living. They even took a look at my other kitties without any additional charge. The difference in quality of care between Medranovets and the rest is not even comparable.
