I found her using a Groupon special and ended up going twice more in the two weeks I was vacationing here, as well as sending my son to her and recommending her to our friends in the area. She does real bodywork and found the points in my shoulder that were giving me issues all the way down to my wrist and hand. After that first hour, I decided it was worth coming back for 90 minutes at a time to allow for this more targeted work as well as get a full-body massage, which combined deep tissue, stretch and more traditional Swedish techniques. Anna was one of only a few massage therapists I have encountered who talked to me about stretches and at-home ways to alleviate the same-old same-old problems I (and many others who spend all day hunched over a computer) have.... she is both knowledgeable and dedicated. It quickly became clear, however, that I was in the presence of a rare practitioner, and there was something far more significant than a round of bursitis for us to approach together. I'd just gone through a divorce, and was dealing with the immediate grief, a lingering problem with depression, and the residue of older pain that I'd never processed. Ching's expertise in deep emotional work came as a great gift, helping me slowly navigate the layers. He didn't "cure" anything; that's not his role. What he did was help free things up from the depths where they were hiding, and then bolstered my strength and clarity so I could do the personal work I needed to do. A year or so down the road, I am more free than I have ever been. And I cannot overstate the value of Ching's caring and intuitive support in getting here. There's a poem I love from Rumi, the famed 13th century Sufi mystic: The way of love is not a subtle argument; the door there is devastation. Birds make great sky-circles of their freedom.
