I had been in bed for two days and was due back at work but knew I couldn't make it thru an hour of it so I drove to the hospital. It's early afternoon on a Thursday and they had a 3 hour wait in the ER. Well I was absolutely too sick to sit in a waiting room for 3 hours- and that's just to get to step one. So I got back in my car and called Maine Med family practice and found out that they do have urgent care so I could be seen that day at a designated time just by a different doctor- but one with my records on hand. So much better . Seriously unless it's 3am and I'm in an accident I would ALWAYS prefer to just use my urgent care!! So today I had my physical. I received 3 vaccinations and was totally happy to realize the importance of having a regular doctor at a decent hospital. Going over the paperwork they gave me while there I realized that in the last few months they had amassed my entire medical history. I lived seeing shots I received in 1988. I don't have to remember that my Tetanus was due this year. They reminded me. Maybe it cuz I'm from a big city in California but insurance for me there always meant ER visits or clinic visits. Never this personalized care. They called me to set up the appt for my yearly physical. I didn't have to remember. Gotta love that. One less thing on the calendar to set reminders for.

Dr. Alvarez is very professional, nice, and really listens to your problems and concerns. I can't say for the other doctors there because I've only seen Dr. Alvarez. Kathy, one of many medical assistant at that practice, is so sweet and professional. The front desk staff as a whole are nice, but there's one receptionist that needs to work on her attitude. Every time I've checked in with her, she's just very snippy. Maybe she's having a bad day, but I've checked in with her more than five times so I'm not so sure. However, don't let that deter you because the care there is exceptional and they'll do whatever they can to facilitate your needs. If you are a Mercy patient, sign up with Follow My Health. All you have to do is ask the front desk receptionist to get you signed up. Once you do that, there's an app on your mobile device that is free to download and it's super convenient. I use it to schedule appointments, email my doctor, and update my health history.

I never feel rushed when I see him and he always answers my questions and then some. I can't say, however, that I like the rest of this practice. The front end staff have been rude on more than one occasion and difficult when trying to make appointments. They are especially difficult when calling to speak with a nurse. They act like they are doctors and you are bothering them. I'm also not a huge fan of the other doctors and NP's who work here. Kathleen McKeon is quite standoffish and quick to get you out the door. Dr. Kim, who I have had to see a few times when my doctor was unavailable was the worst. Every appointment with her was a complete waste of time, with no resolution or answers. She refuses to give a referral to a specialist even though she can't figure out a diagnosis. She wasted months of my time when I had an urgent circulatory matter (a blood clot) that actually required an emergent CT scan with IV contrast. I didn't know it at the time, when I went to see her that it was a blood clot. Only after going to a quick care and getting a referral to a vascular surgeon was I told what it was. I will never take an appointment with her again and if you have anything out of the ordinary going on, I recommend you see another doctor. Would rate this practice lower, but I really love Dr Kazimierczak!

I have been a patient at Intermed for nearly three years and truly love Dr. Coleman, which makes…read morethis review difficult to write. She is an exceptional physician and none of what follows reflects on her. The issue is entirely structural. Over the past year, Intermed has implemented scheduling requirements that make it nearly impossible to access routine care. Getting an appointment requires multiple calls, repeating your full medical history to different staff members each time just to be "approved," and even then telehealth is rarely an option regardless of how recently you were seen. Callbacks are inconsistent at best. As someone managing chronic health conditions, this is not workable. I understand physicians are given tight 15-minute windows and that this is out of physicians' control. But simple visits like medication management or a brief touchbase to relay specialist updates should not require weeks of effort just to get on the schedule. The friction rivals that of a specialist office, which is not what you expect from a primary care practice. Intermed is likely a fine fit for patients who need one annual physical and nothing more. For anyone requiring more frequent or complex primary care, I'd encourage you to weigh that carefully. It's a shame, because the quality of the physicians themselves doesn't match the experience the system creates around them. I will be transferring my care after months of trying to navigate their new system.

If you want a dr who is responsive, listens and actually treats your ills, go somewhere else. This guy treated my tendonitis in my wrist with a brace for over a year. The muscles were atrophying and getting super weak. He said I needed to wear the brace longer. I begged him for a cortisone shot, he said he wasn't a big fan of them. Well, it was MY wrist that was in super bad pain. I finally got fed up and changed doctors. My new doctor upon examining my wrist asked me if I had ever considered a cortisone shot...yeah, I got one and the pain was gone, instantly, never to return. Hmm, imagine that.
