This was only the second time in my life I've ever had to call an ambulance, and both times I was brought to this hospital. Unfortunately, both experiences were almost identical -- and both were awful. When I arrived this time, I was in excruciating pain, unable to move. They placed me in a room with the door and curtain wide open, leaving me completely exposed while I cried out in pain for over an hour. No one came to check on me. I was in so much pain I couldn't even get up to leave. I eventually called 911 from inside the hospital to report how I was being ignored. The 911 operator asked to speak to a nurse, but even when I paged them, no one came. While I was on the phone with my mom, crying and screaming because the pain was spreading from my back to my stomach, a nurse in the hallway said loudly, "Now she's on the phone telling someone we're not answering her. If she wants to go to another hospital, then go." About an hour and a half later, a PA finally arrived. After running an MRI, they discovered I had a slipped disk in my back and admitted me. But less than 12 hours later, they were already trying to discharge me -- even though I could barely move. A physical therapist came to help me to the bathroom, but the pain was so severe I could barely make it back to bed. The doctor came in shortly after and said, "I heard you walked for the physical therapist today -- we can get you home." I told him I was still in unbearable pain and struggling to move, but he said, "Don't worry, we're releasing you with all your pain meds." Even several nurses questioned why I was being discharged in that condition, but the charge nurse kept saying, "Oh, she walked for the PT today." Despite my protests, they kept insisting I was stable enough to go home -- when I clearly wasn't. This hospital showed a shocking lack of compassion and urgency for someone in severe pain. Came in with head trauma and head laceration. Was given no pain relief, not even a Tylenol after asking over and over. Did not recoeve my normal daily medications and no one seemed to even care to try to get them. Once it was identified that I was a recovering addict I was treated by staff like scum. They openly admitted not sends a prescription to the pharmacy for refill, because they mistook Dec. 2024, for Dec. 2025, leading to a run around for almost a month, for their mistake. Now they refuse to refill a life treating prescription saying I have not been seen since 2024, mind you it's only 9 days into 2026, so it's still not like it's been 4 years since I was there it's only been one year, which normal, a yearly visit. but the staff claims the office manager I was told was Robin, does not have voice mail, and did not come to work today, Jan. 9, 3026. Do Not Go Here ! I've been here for 4 days just told be told that I'm waiting for test result STILL . The doctor doesn't know anything and when I ask her about the status of my test I just keep being told to wait . The doctor actually said "I'm Only one person" as if she didn't go to Med school . I'm in severe pain and they only gave me pain meds for the past four days and couldn't even stay on top of that I constantly had to call to get medication . No results , no answers just hearing statements like "I can tell you what I think but I'm not sure." After four days with still no test results is ridiculous ! Had a great experience. I had an endoscopy and they got me right back. The nurses were very sweet. The anesthesiologist was also very nice and explained everything. The wait was about 45 minutes because they were behind. Once in the procedure room, they gave me the anesthesia and the next thing I knew I was waking up in the room with the sweetest nurse. Came in for confirmed same day in and out surgery, which was successful, but complications lead me to be in intubaited. :( So, everyone in the ICU was helpful, fast, and helped me to live!!! Katie was the best day nurse i have ever had. I was then transferred to the O'Neill building on the 4th floor for recovery and to be continued to be monitored. I was there for 2 days. My night male nurse, John, was excellent. Now, i know you can't really sleep at a hospital , of which nurses kept coming in roughly every 4 to 6 hours. There was construction going on, on the 5th floor between 630 and 7am every morning in the O'Neill building Random nurses and food people kept coming in without announcing themselves. The food lady would bring my tray in and just sat it down on my nedside table with the tray completely turned around. I'm Thankful my mother was there to help me. The cleaning lady didn't come in until I was being discharged. Each day we had to ask for new linen and place it on ourselves. There was a shower inside of the bathroom that was a bit slippery but good to be combined. Hospital food is not the greatest, but this stay around, the food was not good at all. I am just thankful that my life was saved here :) .... read more

First off the visitor policy is awful: only two people can see my sick father a day?! Second, the nurses are confused on the policy of overnight stays. One said I had to leave, another said I could stay, then the first nurse Tracy came back with all this attitude saying she talked to her supervisor and I had to leave. Then the charge nurse said I had to put in a request to stay overnight, so I did, then come to find out, no one can stay overnight unless the patient is DYING !! I've been here for 4 days and had interactions with at least 30 nurses with only 2 with common decency and compassion. I've had a nurse tell me his muscles and strength was for his health and not the help of a disabled patient. Another nurse give me a whole days worth of blood pressure medicine in 1 setting where I started losing my hearing and sight. And a wound care associate who told me they be changing my bandages only to hv my wife leave work and lose money to come to the hospital to do the of a Good Samaritan‍ I'm 50 and disabled so good forbid I actually become old and this is the nearest hospital I'll be screwed even more. keep ur wits about u ppl. read more

Good care, therapist knew what they were doing. I have Blue cross as primary insurer & Medicare as my secondary. Normally when I receive a bill blue Cross covers the primary, a big portion of the cost. & Medicare covers the co-pay & rest or the bill. I have Parkinson's & have I had Big (movements) & loud (vocal) w/MED STAR in Dundalk. Therapy lasted about 8 weeks 4 x's per week. in 2022. The insurance picked up & covered all the bill. in 2022 I had the big therapy in Good Samaritan Med Star in Baltimore but did not take the loud therapy. I did not take the loud therapy. Soon thereafter I received a bill from the Med Star for $327.00. I called Good Samaritan Hospital & was told that was the bill I owed. I explained I had taken both big & loud under Med Star in Dundalk & I did not receive a bill, it was all covered by the insurance. I asked why the insurance covered both classes in 2019 & I am receiving a bill for only one class from in 2022. I was told this is the bill I owe. I called Blue cross about the situation. The insurance co said they would call & take care of it. Blue Cross said it was taken care of it. I would not receive a bill. On 10/27/23 I received a bill from a collection agency explaining that if I did not pay the $327.00 to them, they would turn my name int the credit beurre. My wife had said I could pay $237.00 of the bill using flex spending of which I was happy not to mess up my credit get them, off my back. In the meantime, my wife called Blue Cross & they said autopod Samaritan had been in error because they were supposed to get an updated doctors note & prior authorization before the therapy classes We called the hospital & they said they would send us a check to reimburse us for the $237,00 we had errantly given them. On 4/6/23 We received a bill from Good Samaritan saying they were crediting our account $237.00 & that we still owed $71.00 to the hospital. We called Blue Cross & they said they would call & talk to them the next business day. read more

So I woke up with a fever and body aches. I really don't have time to be sick! I don't have time to wait all day either. I went to GBMC first which is like a first class VIP hospital compared to this mess. I guess everyone had the same idea as me because it was crowded. I was on the phone talking to my friend and she told me to go to MedStar and that they had an urgent care at the facility. So I left GBMC. I get here and it was no wait. They advised me that they no longer had the Urgent care center. The lady at the front desk was nice. The lady that took my vitals were interesting. She didn't tell me about my blood pressure, if I had a fever or if I was about to die. I got to the back and it looked like pure TRASH! a homeless shelter. First of all this place need to shut down and remodel! I know for a fact it should be failing violations codes. First of all you have to share a room with someone. No private rooms. Do you know how disgusting that is? The bed/or whatever you want to call it was so raggedy. They didn't even have a pillow where I could lay down and relax. This place look so disgusting. I wouldn't send anyone here! When I got to the back it took someone over an hour to even acknowledge my presence. I just ended up walking out! I rather just go to March or Vaughn Green Funeral home. I'm giving 4 to 5 stars for the care that was given my Mom while staying here for her surgery. The nursing staff who were in charge of her care were professional and caring during the course of the week. I am detracting stars for two reasons. One, the PT team said that my Mom was not doing well with her exercises, and likely she would be released after 3-4 more days of therapy. The next day I came in and I was told that my Mom did great on her last PT session (one session?????) and that she will be released that day. The nurse who was in charge of discharge was not made aware of the change, and I was told that the comms was a mistake and I was sent away. I was then called back to pick her up 30 mins later. I was prompt, and was sent to the pharmacy to get her meds. We waited and waited to be discharged, 3-4 hours..... but by then it was close to dark outside. I brought my Mom home in the dark, and it took me an hour to get her from the car to her front door. She was exhausted and was given meds before she left the hospital. From there, it took me another hour to get her from her entry to her bed. (She had knee surgery and the other knee is equally as bad). Well, guess what? She had a bad fall overnight, and I had to call the fire department to help me lift her. Then, came an ambulance, because we thought that she had a stroke. The ambulance took her to the ER, where she was admitted for several tests and for monitoring into the hospital. Here, the hospital and medical staff did an excellent job of checking everything. Back to 4-5 stars. Bottom line, the PT nurses failed with their assessment. FAILED. The second reason, is really bad. My Mom had an appointment months earlier at the hospital. She made arrangements for a cab to pick her up at a specific time. The cab never showed. My Mom is elderly and does not use her cell phone. She went inside and asked the security guard for help and he told her that he could not. She waited for FOUR hours for another cab to appear. Four hours?????? My mom told me what happened and I couldn't believe it and thought that she was mistaken. Fast forward to her surgery, I came to visit her at the hospital. When I waited to get checked in at the security desk, I saw an elderly woman asking for help with the security guard. I heard him say that he couldn't help her. I followed her outside and asked if she was ok, because she looked distraught. She told me that she called a cab to pick her up at a certain time, and it did not show. She was now on hour two of waiting. So, I called an Uber for her. She offered to pay me, but I refused to take her money. She hugged me with tears in her eyes. I made sure that she was picked up safely, and I tracked that she was dropped off at her home. If I could give this hospital negative stars for the treatment of the elderly by the security staff, I would, especially knowing that the same thing happened to my mother. I am disgusted by the lack of humanity that the security guard showed, and since it appears to be a practice that is required by the security staff, I am looking at that management for enforcing bad behavior. Also, if I could notice that an elderly person was distraught within 2 mins of waiting in line, perhaps the security staff should spend more time being attentive to the lobby and patients/customers, than joking around with their buddies. Terrible hospital! Patients were screaming for help and nurses would ignore them. Monitors were beeping and people were just walking by ignoring them. I was given a line for dehydration. The nurses stuck me 6 different times. When my IV bag ran out, I had to remove it myself from the line because the machine kept sounding an alarm. Complete incompetence. A lot of inappropriate conversations too. Transporters were chasing after each other, playing in the middle of the ER. Nurses were arguing about who did or didn't go on lunch in patient rooms. Despicable. I was even given someone else's medicine thanks to nurse Shannon on O' Neil 4. No. Just no. Stay clear of this place. read more

The cafeteria needs improving. Almost every morning, customers have to wait for someone to assist them in taking their orders for the foods that are already prepared. There is usually only 1 employee working and he is on the grill. He can't operate the grill and assist customers at the already prepared foods counter. Also, scrambled eggs, both with cheese and without cheese and buttermilk pancakes, should be standard breakfast items that should already be prepared. Alot of mornings, the aforementioned items are not prepared leaving customers to either go with other selections or to just not get anything at all. No rating low enough for this facility. My father was admitted for physical therapy, had a tingling sensation in both feet. Contracted a cold, was prescribed an abundance of antibiotics. My father became very weak and delirious. Doctor told my family my father was going to die within a week and they would do nothing more but make him 'comfortable.' We had him transferred to U of Md hospital (which was NOT easy) where they told us he had contracted c.diff from too many antibiotics. He had 90% of his colon removed in an emergency surgery at U of Md and lost his only functioning kidney. If we would have left him there he would have died. Terrible bedside manner, incompetent doctors, nurses and staff seemed indifferent to everything, and they often left him lying in his own waste. He also developed bedsores that took months to heal. Wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hospital. read more

Cannot say enough about the compassionate, professional treatment that my husband is currently receiving at Good Sam Acute rehab. The new 5th floor is state of the art and filled with technology, competent staff, training tools and good humor (very needed after 2 strokes!). The progress that my husband has made, post stroke, is slow but remarkable. PT/OT/ST staff are tough but knowledgeable, friendly and kind. The nursing staff are the nicest people. Do NOT come here if you need to use the ER. You'll be waiting for hours and God knows if you'll even get the right treatment. I had a bout of food poisoning that was causing intense stomach pains, so I decided to take myself to the ER. Had to wait 2 hours to be seen even with only a few patients waiting. When I was seen, I tried to explain my situation to the nurses and PA who saw me. They asked if I experienced any nausea or diarrhea. I said no, I just had intense stomach pains. Yet, they still hooked me up to an IV and gave me saline and nausea meds. They then said I was being scheduled for a CT scan. A CT scan for food poisoning? Okay, so I went along. After waiting another 3 hours for that test to run, the PA returns and says my tests are negative for appendicitis. Well, that's a relief. But what about my food poisoning? The response was, "Oh, you need to see your primary doc or a gastroenterologist for that." Why in the hell did I spend 7 hours in an ER complaining of food poisoning but not get treated or tested for it?!! I walked out of there with a prescription of more anti-nausea meds, which I didn't need, and a prescription for strong antacid. So, I basically was stuck in an ER for 7 hours for someone to tell me to just take Tums. What an absolute waste of time and healthcare resources. They better pray that I don't have something worse. On Wednesday night I was unable to walk to my car to go to the urgent care down the street from my house so my boyfriend called the ambulance both my feet ankles and knees were swollen and keep this in mind I arrived to this hospital in an ambulance. They put me in a room and hooked me up for my vitals Katia Anderson M.D came in and looked and my feet they took my blood and left out during that time I was cold and asked for assistance and no one never came to give me another blanket now I could see the extra blanket on the table but I could barely walk to get it, instead I heard complaints outside the room I guess since it was the E.R I was asking for too much. During this time I'm still waiting and was never given any antibiotics to get the inflammation down on my knees and my feet and no pain meds so I lay waiting in pain when the doctor came back along with the other doctor she basically said my results came back fine and to come back the following day for ultrasound to see if I had blood clots on my legs. I had to ask the doctor for pain meds before I left the hospital and I was being rushed to get dressed while putting my clothes on and I had to ask for a wheelchair so I could be wheeled to the door once again I arrived in an ambulance because I could barely walk or stand. I will say the staff the next day were very helpful and I appreciate them because Katia put on my paperwork to come back at 7:30am in the morning for the ultrasound but that turned out to not be correct as soar I am when I wake up in the morning it's a process just to shower so to get up that early after getting home from the E.R the prior night at 9:30pm it was a rough morning and to get to the hospital and I had to go back to my car after going inside to the Smyth building was very painful for me it's hard for me to get in and out the car and once again I can barely walk but the pain meds was still in my system so I could do more than usual but other than that snag 12/10/20 was a better day at the hospital. read more

Whoever was stationed at the security desk of the Russell Morgan building on February 9, 2022 at 9:43am deserves to have his job revoked. Patients are anxious enough coming to a hospital where they don't know what will happen to them and this man contributes to the negativity that is already in healthcare. My family member came in for imaging. The person he made an appointment with told him to come straight to the 4th floor when he got here and that he wouldn't have to check in at the front desk if he already knew where he was going. So like any other person, we entered the hospital and proceeded to the elevators. The man at the front desk started screaming at us, "UMMM HELLOOOO?!?!? HEELLLLLOOO?!?!?" and we walked over to the desk and faced him without saying anything. This rude, vile man said, "ya'll comin' into da hospital, ya'll gotta let da front desk know wuss' goin' on!" We told this man THREE times what we were there for and he just kept staring at us. Then he looked at the screen then held his hand up in my family member's face. My family member was confused and said, "what do you need sir?" And this unprofessional man rudely responded with, "YOUR ID. DUH!" and my family member gave him his ID and said, "you can't just hold up your hand in my face and expect me to know what you want from me." The man aggressively responded with, "YEAH I CAN. I CAN. I CAN." So we decided to be the bigger person and just proceed with grace while this man continues to work his miserable job. It is just so inappropriate that these patients come in during their most vulnerable times just to be spoken so cruelly to during their very first interaction in the hospital. Can you imagine? You walk into a hospital already stressed about your health and then immediately someone is SCREAMING at you in the most startling way?! Do better, Good Sam. We thought that since this is the sister hospital of Union Memorial it would be a good experience from door to finish. We are not expecting to have a red carpet but we are expecting some basic decency. read more

Let me start off by saying that if I could leave 0 stars I would. I have been an RN for 10 years and worked throughout many hospitals in the country. Unfortunately, the entire good Samaritan hospital experience for my father has been terrible!. Firstly , he was discharged too soon and developed multiple complications in which he was readmitted and treated for which included fluid in his lungs that needed to be removed and hemodialysis. He became very weak and debilitated as a result of all these complications and being in the hospital for an extended period of time. He required oxygen, a walker, and a need for PT/OT. During this process, the plan of care was extremely inconsistent, we didn't receive accurate information from nurses, doctors, and the social worker. Now we are left with him being discharged again and being told he is "stable ". Tell me how is he stable when he requires oxygen , a walker, and feeling fatigued and syncope with PT (all of this is new for him)? Nonetheless, he now has to go to dialysis 3 times a week and doesn't have a caregiver at home to help him with ADLs and medical transportation? We have voiced these concerns numerous times and now he is being discharged again prematurely without ensuring he has the proper resources and help he needs. What a shame this hospital makes healthcare look bad. We will be taking matters into our own hands and calling the doctors and insurance ourselves to advocate for our dad since the people that work here don't seem to care and are incompetent. Physical and Occupational Staff, as well as Nursing and TechStaff are incredible. They deserve a 5+ rating. They are remodeling the whole 5th Fl. for a new, modern Acute Rehab Facility. The therapy areas are spotless. Cannot say the same for the patient rooms and bathrooms. I have been in this facility before and it was much cleaner. It's like the closer they get to relocating the less they do. I was using my toilet one afternoon and just as I was finishing my feet felt wet. I looked down to see at least an inch of "pee" water covering the whole bathroom floor. When my husband I called them in to show them they said they would get someone to clean it up and also call maintainance. A maintenance guy came flushed the toilet twice, did not even look at the results of the flushes and proclaimed the toilet in 100% working order. The leaking only occurred if you sat on the toilet (I weigh 150#). No one had come to clean up the pee by noon the next day. The pee had dried to a nasty sticky mess. I told the nurses several times with no results. People I didn't know would come & look and leave. Finally my assigned doctor came in and I mentioned it to her as well as reminded her of my severely compromised immune system. Because of her, I was moved to another room with a cleaner functioning bathroom within 10 minutes. I also wonder as there is a new director of the unit, if he has cut back budgets or whatever. The previous director was in the unit several times a day. I never saw the new director once. They have a CNP assigned to that wing and he is extremely arrogant, talks over even the doctors to demonstrate how great he is. I use Breo for allergy-related asthma, which I rarely have. He put me on two nebulizer treatments, one 6x a day and the other 4x a day. All of a sudden both my BP and heart rate were higher than they had ever been. I finally got the names of the two drugs and checked the side effects and drug interactions. There were six serious drug interactions with my daily meds. I am on Eliquis and both drugs (I use drugs.com) said do not use these two drugs if you are on any type of blood thinner. These drugs could have caused me to have a stroke or worse. This is also the same CNP who entered my room the first time I was admitted for therapy; when I was on the bedside commode struggling with opioid-induced constipation. The tech that was with me told him to come back later twice. The second time, he came in anyway. He started examining me and even pulled up me up and off the commode while I was defecating just to finish his exam. I was recovering from very complex back surgery. He told me on my last visit that the Linzess I was taking cured my opioid-induced constipation. Violating my privacy was one thing, but this was beyond professionalism. Totally erroneous, it is nothing more than an aid to help the situation. If it cured OIC, I would be ecstatic. I told him this in front of my assigned doctor who he was talking over. I believe he remembered me from my first visit and I think this was why he put me on the nebulizer treatment that was completely unneeded and a major conflict with my Eliquis. I will never go back to Good Samaritan for therapy or anything else and am actively looking for another acute rehab facility in eastern Maryland. read more

I am only putting a review for the telephone inquiry I made NOT actually visiting the ER. So, I called ahead to ask some questions about an issue I was having and to make sure I could be seen by a specialty doctor. Well, I was put on hold and transferred twice. I then spoke with a lady with a nasty attitude She told me I was asking too many questions over the phone and that I just need to come in. She then hung up on me. I didn't think I was asking anything overreaching. They were general questions. I will not be going there to get treatment; I can already tell they don't give a damn. -_- read more

This hospital is the best in my opinion. They have saved both my parents lives. Greg in the ER noticed my mother in distress with a glance over his shoulder, which in turn had her admitted and saved her life. He should be outstanding nurse of the year! All the nurses on floors 3,4 and 5 have been kind, caring and compassionate to both my elderly parents this year on several occasions. These are such important traits to have when dealing with the frail and elderly and their families. We always make sure the EMT's route us to Good Samaritan Hospital even when other hospitals are closer. read more
