I would say I received good care. I was admitted to the hospital from the ER. When I arrived on the floor I had an immediate confrontation with a smart azz nurse. After I straighten that. No more problems. I am a retired Med Professional so I peep everything. I would say that I received good care there. I was there for a week. Now today. I'm using the pharmacy. The first phone call was irritating another smart azz but clueless individual answered. Forwarded my very easy question to the PHARMACIST?? Emergency Department on or around Monday of last week someone I know was dropped off at the ER, so I can better understand, you denied her care because she had no insurance??? Aren't you Supposed To Treat Everyone, let me add she has a Job. She fell off a scooter at high speed coming home from work, I'm sure she has broken her arm seems she cannot move it. You LPN made it totally about her instead of the patient, who cares what happened to you in the past your at work to do a Service which you FAILED MISERABLE... The Care You Gave on this day, I want all to know how you treat people who don't or can't pay at that time. The doctors and nurses were professional and kind, but the billing experience completely ruined it. After our ER visit, we received nearly $4,000 in MRI charges alone, with multiple overlapping codes (Head, Neck and Brain MRIs all charged separately) and prices far higher than what independent imaging centers charge for the same scans. Add in hefty facility fees, and the whole bill felt inflated and confusing. Patients shouldn't have to fight through complicated billing after already dealing with a medical issue. This experience seriously damaged our trust, and I wouldn't recommend this ER unless you truly have no other option. The billing department does not even offer an online portal or an email. You virtually have no place to go to complain and request an official review and response. All they say is that they think the charges were all correct!!! read more

Union Memorial Hospital one of the worse Hospitals,I came into this place via ER room from severe back pain and chest pain,so the Doctor decided to get me a room and put me under observation instead of admitting me,so I received a share room with someone that snores all night long and smelled to high heaven,the Doctor decided to put me on the 7 th. Floor where they put patients that needs placement,which I thought was really good but the way they treat you is uncalled for,they gave me a social worker Danielle Henderson that was worthless to the get go,in 6 weeks time she found me 2 places one to a nursing home that the reviews were so bad that Medicaid and Medicare was going to stop sending them any money because of the complaints cold meals because I wanted go along with the program so I still had hot lunches,I had a friend plug the TV back in and I had a cell phone,so with in a week I received the order from the Judge to vacate or be forced out,so they wanted me to go to a Hotel and I couldn't afford it so because I wouldn't get in the transport van they took me in a wheelchair with 4 bags of belongings and placed me on the street corner, after what happen to me in the Hospital and what was going on now I felt that I was ready to end my life,I even told that to the Phycologist inside of the Hospital and I was told that if I didn't leave they were going to make my life a living hell so I couldn't take it anymore so I left,I called the ambulance again which took me right back to Union Memorial Hospital ER in which time they put me right back outside,again I called for another Hospital which to me to another Hospital but the same type which was MedStar,someone from Union Memorial called this other Hospital Good Samaritan Hospital and warn them I was on my way and sure enough I went through the ER on a stretcher put back onto my wheelchair and rolled into the waiting room where I was told that I was discharged and order the guards to put me off of Hospital Property and the one guard decided to push me off of my chair and really hurted myself,the Hospital had at that time had to take me in,they then decided to X-ray my back and found no fractures and discharge me so they order the guards to force me off the bed and roughly threw onto my chair,at that time I was hurting mentally and physically severely,they place me outside and they called the police and the police was real nice after speaking to them and I told them I had a place at the Nursing Home and I called them and told them my name and they said it was OK for me to come there and the Sergeant even spoke to them and they also told him that is was ok for me to come,once getting there they refuse me entry and said that there was no new admission so all along Danielle Henderson said I had placement there and I never did,I told the police to leave me on the street corner and I would call a cab because I took to much of there time and go to a Hotel,I just wanted to lay down and heal because I been though a lot,so the next mourning when pulling my medication out Union Memorial Hospital shorted me out of alot of medication and the rest I had 5 days left where I'm I going to find a doctor to fill about 15 prescriptions.i couldn't check it in the Hospital because the Hospital called the Guards to roll me outside so I had no time to check my medications,also the Hospital gave me no discharge plans what so ever no doctors appointments or refills,the food was always cold and not cooked properly and when you had a couple of nurses that didn't like you you received very bad service like never getting your medication on time or long wait time when you hit the call button. read more

Just wanted to acknowledge all of the Doctors, Nurses, Technicians and Support Staff on 7 East, Intensive Care Unit at Union Memorial. They took great care of our Dad while he was admitted to that Unit. They went above and beyond to provide quality care and our family are so appreciative of them. I was rushed to this hospital back at the end of May by my doctor. The ambulance guy was extremely rude to me first off and we ended up arguing, what kind of unprofessional bedside manner is that? I ended up having to stay for two weeks, being diagnosed with pneumonia. The hospital MA's and nurses were very professional and attentive, most of them. But it was the maintenance staff who seemed to judge me and whisper as I was being transported back and forth, which was weird because shouldn't ALL hospital staff have some sort of bedside manner for patients. I may have outwardly looked fine but I was underweight, could barely breath and in pain. For those staff members who treated me horribly, it will surely return to you 10x fold. read more

So this has been my second home the last three weeks. My son broke his finger. Dr. Katz office 6th floor have been nothing but amazing. Had to come to the ER today for my son he was cutting some wood on a table saw and the wood he was cutting kicked back at him and he fell in to the blade and chopped his pinky up really bad and the other 3 finger just a little bit. The ER nurses were very friendly, kind and very helpful. The ER attending Dr was awesome she assessed my sons fingers took pictures to send to her boss. She came back explained what she was going to do numbed his fingers and sewed up his fingers. Everything was excellent he went home and we will return sometime next week. read more

I went into the heart cath lab, had to stay overnight, they put someone else id bracelet on me, then when they proceeded with the cath, they put too small a cuff on my wrist and knew it, I was in agony and got yelled at because I was in agony. I was bruised solid to my elbow. Then when released, the medications I was told to take were not the ones they sent to the pharmacy. I tried to contact them to report the issues and got no response. I switched cardiologists so I never have to go there again. read more

Dr. Bradley Moatz has been my spine surgeon here. I have received nothing but the best service. Of course this is the kind of place that is a bittersweet review. As I write this, I am two-weeks post-op, and that's a hard pill to swallow. Although the surgery is recent, I have been working with Dr. Moatz and staff for a couple of years now and always the service has been professional, personalized, compassionate, and thorough. And I think these are the greatest qualities one can associate with such specialized care. In addition to Dr. Moatz, I would like to give a huge shout out to the entire spine center. The specialized orthopedic staff (nurses, assistants, occupational and physical therapists), the surgical staff (anesthesiologists, nurses, and assistants) were EVERYTHING. This was unfortunately my second surgery. My first was with a different hospital (if you follow my feed you've seen that review - it was not good). The care from all of the support staff has made the recovery from this surgery orders of magnitude better than the previous. I would recommend that anyone needing help seek Union Memorial and the office of Drs. Moatz and Tortelloni. I trusted them with my life. And I cannot give a better review of every single aspect of my stay there, from the moment I walked in the door to the moment I walked out, and even in the days and weeks following. read more

i received excellent psychiatric care @medstarhealth: harbor hospital. the ability to heal in a organized, calming way was a vital component of my recovery. the staff of RNS were proficient and therapeutic. special thanks to the, often overlooked, ancillary staff on the unit. the nurse/psych techs were outstanding! they created a well-run, patient focused unit where vulnerable patient's can feel safe. in addition, both dietary and environmental services staff were respectful and hard-working. i wouldn't hesitate to recommend medstar harbor hospital to my friends and family. please share this review with the staff; who, are often not recognized. read more

This was my first time visiting the Hand Clinic. I was diagnosed with trigger finger. Wow! This is so painful and uncomfortable. After speaking with P.A. Glick she advised I would need a cortisone injection. She advised that the injection could work as soon as later in the day or within 3 weeks. After 2 days I was able to bend my thumb and I'm happy. I recommend this establishment. Great job! read more

I had the worst experience here with being misdiagnosed. The incompetence of the doctors at this hospital is scary. On top of that, the radiologist did not report the imaging findings, misreading my scan as normal. With telework, I am leaving this city due to the substandard healthcare. Originally, my dad was in the emergency room, However, they did admit him to the hospital. I have to say that I am just as pleased with the hospital part of this hospital just as much as the emergency room. I actual felt comfortable in leaving my father here for inpatient services. They are assisting him in getting him well. They are not rushing him to get well as to he is an older person and most times if they are not completely healed they end up having to return. After experiencing excruciating back pain issues with no home remedy relief, I opted to go to Union Memorial. I can say that the experience was 5 stars beginning to end. I arrived at the hospital ER around 9:30 a.m. midweek, to a virtually empty waiting room. The staff was courteous, friendly and professional. My consult and xrays were all completed within an hour! My luck finally ran out while skiing this winter, and I hurt my knee badly enough that it needed surgery. Since Union Memorial has a good reputation for orthopedics this is where I went. I'm happy to report that the medical care I received was excellent, but the administration of this hospital could use some improvements. The orthopedic group here has a couple of surgeons who specialize in orthopedic trauma, and I was sent to Dr. Mark Richardson. He was fantastic, I would happily recommend him to anyone else who has the misfortune of being in my position. Dr. Richardson was friendly and spent plenty of time explaining my injury and answering any questions that my wife and I had. He was reassuringly confident without being arrogant. Most importantly my recovery so far has been faster than expected and free from complications. My experience with the hospital itself was a bit more mixed. The individual nurses and other patient care team members were all great, but they seemed to be working in an inefficient and uncoordinated system. The PA who was responsible for my discharge didn't appear to have been told much about my surgery. Dr. Richardson also ordered a blood test that was supposed to be done while I was in recovery, but it slipped through the cracks and wouldn't have happened if my wife wasn't there making sure it was taken care of. The actual medical care I received was very good, but it sometimes felt like the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. Unfortunately the administration at Union Memorial isn't nearly as competent as the medical and nursing staff. The afternoon before surgery I got a phone call from the hospital, and one of the things they said was that I'd have to pay an amount that exceeded the annual out of pocket max for my health insurance. I had to scramble to call my insurance company and get it all sorted out, which was stress I did not need that day. The employee working at the check in desk on the morning of my operation was also apathetic and surly. I get that being at work at 5 AM sucks, but would it kill you to show a little bit of kindness to people who are showing up for surgery? Fortunately the hospital staff become significantly friendlier and more professional as you get deeper into the building. It seems that Union Memorial has earned its reputation for good orthopedic care, but be prepared for hassles with bills and insurance if you come here. read more

10/20/22 I recently was a patient and was brought to the hospital in an ambulance. From the minute I was brought into the Emergency Room at 3 a.m., the nursing staff were warm, welcoming and very attentive. They made me feel that they cared about my treatment. I was given a room right away. They were direct, answered my questions and were there when i needed them. They were supportive, understanding, informative, and very willing to help. I was totally impressed with their care, concern and the speed at which things were done. My doctor was Dr. Meghan Checkley, who was excellent! My nurses were Logan, Lauren, Jennifer all were excellent and other Emergency Room Staff. Amy, the CT Scan Tech was quick and thorough! Wilie the Transport guy was also very nice and accommodating. I was born here. Most of my doctors are here. Although it is not close to my home, it's worth the travels. I've had a few surgeries, and blood and iron issues and they have nursed me back to health each time. Even when I've needed immediate care, I take the drive because I know they will get me back on the mend quickly. Some of the hospital staff in the Baltimore Metropolitan area hospitals scare me. The staff here is always helpful, caring and friendly. This is of course MY opinion, so go where you feel comfortable and where doctor's will listen to your every need. read more

My father had an open chest surgery done & it went well. The doctor communicated perfectly. However, when I went in to visit him, the security & staff at the entrance taking our temperature were insanely rude, aggressive, & had no patience answering our questions. We were unaware of the new covid regulations & did not cause any trouble. Yet, the staff did not want to even try to understand. We were cut off mid-sentence many times, were not given the chance to explain the misunderstanding, & were yelled at in front of the hospital's other visitors. That's embarrassing for your hospital. Messages are not passed along resulting in patients waiting days to have tests taken and to get information about their conditions. It's like you're literally lying there being held hostage while they bilk your insurance comany for room and board. We won't discharge you but we won't do anything for you either. I visited my mother today on the 8th floor today. She had a shoulder replacement last evening and then spent the night in CCU and was transferred around 1:30 to the 8th floor. For 3 hours, while I was there, no nurse came in to check on her. After about 2 hours I began to inquire and was told by the nursing assistant that the nurse would be in shortly. Still the nurse or charge nurse did not come in. I had questions about her medications, her not urinating, ice packs being applied and I was not until I went out and made a fuss did we get any attention. I am appalled by the care she is not getting and I feel like I should have spent the night with her to make sure she gets care. Is that how you should feel when your mother is in the hospitals? Recently accompanied a family member through surgery and follow-up physical therapy at the Sports Medicine dept.. EVERYONE at the hospital was friendly and helpful. The surgeon and crew were professional, always asking if we had any further questions. I do recommend persistence when calling to get the appointment with a surgeon (or maybe it was just this case). I had three referrals to this hospital but they were from doctors not patients. I did not feel good about the way I way treated at this hospital. I went there with a life threatening injury but the nurses came off as if I was just another patient. I can understand people in other professions getting tired of doing the same old thing but nurses have good jobs in my opinion. I was in a serious pain but I had to keep asking for pain medication for nearly two hours. They kept telling 'uh huh' until I realized that was their blow off line. So I told them "I can leave if you can't manage my pain." I finally got my shot of morphine so I know they didn't dispute that I was in bad pain. So the waiting was to see whether I would keep asking! That's just wrong, The other issue I had with the nurses was how they'd ask me dozens of expressionless questions and I give them honest answers but at shift change the current shift started saying I was in denial about something and yet they didn't say a thing to me before shift change. If I'm honest with someone I expect an honest response to my face. For people that didn't know me from Adam they sure seemed to have gained instant insight into my background. These nurses were amateurs playing pro. They missed the entire point of anything I said while they looked for some hidden meaning. read more

Wonderful experience! Dr. Ebert did the surgery: total knee replacement. Surgery was on Friday, and I was discharged on Sunday. Preop instructions were very helpful. The nursing staff was very attentive. The physical therapy and occupational therapy teams were good. I even liked the food! If I ever have a need to go to the hospital, I would choose Union Memorial. read more

I really like my knee surgeon, but felt that the Lutherville Surgery Center worked as a well oiled factory. You rsurgeon will not be the person to stitch you up, you will not be introduced to your anesthesiologist, nor will see your surgeon after your procedure, nor will he check in with you after the procedure to explain what was found and surgically done to remedy the situation, till your follow up appointment a week later. This was palatable. However, I felt like my post surgical care has been bordering on sheer negligence. My surgical nurse was rude, and would not answer any questions. I received no directions past the first night regarding how to care for my wound, and shower, and when to wear my compression stocking, and handle issues with pain medication like nausea and itchiness. She failed to give me a prescription she was supposed to give me in cause those issues arose. Although, I left with a cane, I was given instructions on how to walk with crutches so no instructions on how to sit down and if I could bend my leg and how much walking was too much and if I could go without the cane etc. Most importantly, I received no information on how to properly elevate my leg and if I was supposed to wear the compression stockings at night or how they should be positioned around my toes. When I called to ask about these things at the surgery center and my Dr's office I was told totally contradictory things, one or two of which, could have caused a serious blood clot. So no, I would not recommend Union Memorial for knee surgery, as it seems that all they care about is what happens in the operating room and could care less what your experience post surgically. Really, an abysmal surgical experience post op. I was surprised when I went to complain on the website and found no link for patient comment. All of the above complaints could be handled with a simple posting that patients would be given access to regarding icing, elevation, wound care, showering, and proper use of compression stockings, and if one is allowed to weight bare w/o assistance for crutches and cane. I tried to ask about all these things when I got out f surgery and was told by Nurse Ratchet that I would have to ask the Dr, but as I am not to see the Dr for a week, how am I supposed to get through the first critical week? read more

I attended an out patient psychiatric facility for severe depression and was told that they would contact my insurance company for pre-authorization and would let me know if there were any problems with the authorization. I was never contacted and continued treatment there for 6 weeks under the assumption that everything was fine. Once treatment was completed, I received a bill for just under $10,000. None of this treatment was covered and was never pre-authorized per my insurance company. So now I am stuck with this large bill. I would like to say my experience there was good, but Ill have to say no this was a night mare and I would not recommend them. I feel like my whole encounter with them was fake and this was a time where I needed people in my life that I could trust. Ive made multiple phone calls and written letters with no response what so ever. This is more than disappointing and I hope this never happens to anyone else especially if you are going through tough times and need to trust people. read more
